We visit Newport where a whopping 5,500 bluebell bulbs have been planted by Councillors, Newport in Bloom and Cap Gemini volunteers. It should see a sea of blue next year in the park next to the canal.
Transcript
00:00Yeah, we find you in the woods next to the canal, what's going on?
00:02Well, we are planting 5,500 bluebells to make this beautiful area even more attractive.
00:09What's it called? Is it Strine Park?
00:11Strine Park, yes. The River Strine runs just behind us and the park stretches out for as far as you can see over there.
00:19So that's a lot of bluebells to be planted.
00:21It's a lot and we hope they'll multiply over the years and give us a nice blue carpet as we walk through.
00:26Yeah, that'd be nice.
00:27I hope we got help you then. I understand we've got some workers from Cap Gemini?
00:30We have got Cap Gemini here, that's right.
00:32And we've got Newport volunteers who come and help me with tree planting and all kinds of things.
00:37So let's go and pester. So Dale, you represent Cap Gemini?
00:41I do.
00:42So put your hands up Cap Geminiers.
00:45Cool.
00:46So is this kind of like a release from work to do some good in the communities?
00:50It certainly is. We try and have several opportunities throughout the year to help with local projects like this.
00:57Yes, we've all had a great morning out with some fresh air. We've had very worthwhile calls, yes.
01:01You've all got sore backs now then?
01:03Absolutely, yes. It's all been good fun. It's all been good fun. I look forward to the next one.
01:07Good stuff. And then we've got some Newport volunteers. Go on, put your hands up.
01:11Our regular Newport volunteers. Go on, let's come to you sir.
01:15So have you been involved in projects down here before?
01:17Well I have. I'm a councillor colleague of Peter Scott's and all credit to Peter for doing this
01:22organisation but also with my fellow volunteers here with Newport in Bloom.
01:27Newport in Bloom are doing volunteering work throughout the town
01:30so we're all really pleased to support this project and make Stryon Park much better.
01:35Great. So we're thinking it might be next year by the time to see the first flash of colours possibly?
01:40Yeah, next year. That's what I understand.
01:42Great.
01:42Green side up is what they say.
01:47All right, cool. Well, thank you guys. Thank you for making this beautiful woodland even
01:51more beautiful. Thank you.
