00:00Which one of us?
00:09Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the best movie kisses that
00:14almost didn't exist, either because of script changes or actor improvisation.
00:19I don't recommend kissing that way, and especially in the pouring rain when you're freezing
00:24at like 5am.
00:25Some minor spoilers to come.
00:2810.
00:29Ronnie and Will – The Last Song
00:31This one kiss may have helped to spark a real-life affair between Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth
00:36that even led to an engagement and marriage.
00:39But did you know that this kiss was completely unscripted?
00:43When 17-year-old Ronnie meets Will, sparks fly, but Will's dating history proves to
00:47be an issue.
00:48I think that's why it would just be better if we just end it.
00:52End it?
00:53End what?
00:54Ronnie, yes.
00:55Okay, I went out with other girls before I met you, but that's the point, it was
00:59before I met you.
01:00How can you be mad about that?
01:02During their argument, Will spontaneously kisses Ronnie as proof of his love.
01:07As it turns out, this kissing scene was the first one Cyrus and Hemsworth filmed together.
01:12How was the big kissing thing on screen?
01:16Right the first day.
01:17We shot that thing four days in a row because Julianne was like, there's this lighting
01:21trick we have to do when the sun is like right here.
01:23To test their chemistry, director Julianne Robinson yelled at them to kiss halfway through.
01:29The real-life spontaneity only makes their deep, passionate kiss even better.
01:33Her mom was watching, her grandma was also watching, which was really funny.
01:38She was on set every day and she'd be right at the monitor with the headphones on, she'd
01:42be watching the monitor like this and as soon as they called cut, I'd look over and she'd
01:46be like, hey.
01:48Number 9.
01:49Haymitch and Effie – The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 2
01:53Fans of The Hunger Games knew that this unlikely pair didn't exactly have romance written
01:57in the stars for them, but their actors felt otherwise.
02:00I have a crush on Elizabeth Banks, I'm not gonna lie.
02:03I think she's a beautiful woman, I think she's a marvelous actress, and I just love
02:09her as a person.
02:10She's as fun as can be.
02:11Haymitch Abernathy and Effie Trinket are at odds for a majority of the series, with their
02:16opposing personalities often causing them to clash.
02:20And in the books, these characters never had any sparks between them.
02:24But while filming this emotional scene, Woody Harrelson and Elizabeth Banks went rogue and
02:28improvised a sweet goodbye kiss.
02:31She didn't know I was even gonna do it and I just kissed her.
02:36And then, she's such a pro, you know, so when we did it, it wasn't like just a light
02:42thing where we thought it was nothing.
02:44Luckily for audiences who grew to love the two's on-screen chemistry, the kiss was kept
02:48in the final cut of the film.
02:50Now we're waiting for their epilogue series.
02:53And hopefully, you know, once we do the sequel to this that no one's expecting, including
03:00the author, you know, something will pick up with these two.
03:05Number 8.
03:06Lucy and George – A Room With A View
03:08E.M. Forster's classic novel gets a classic adaptation, with Helena Bonham Carter and
03:14Julian Sands in the lead roles.
03:17How quickly these accidents do happen, and then one returns to the old life.
03:22I don't.
03:23I mean, something's happened to me, and to you.
03:29This beloved romance follows Lucy Honeychurch's connection with George Emerson while on holiday
03:34in Italy.
03:36The scene where George sees Lucy in a field and kisses her has proved to be an iconic
03:41one.
03:42It was also completely improvised.
03:44Director James Ivory suggested a kiss at the very last minute to the surprised actors.
03:48You know, the kiss that ended up being everyone loved, that was totally improvised right at
03:53the last minute.
03:54They were desperately always trying to find cornflowers, but they were only things that
03:57we had poppies.
03:58And then because of the sunset, we'd been waiting for days, I think, if I remember,
04:02to try and get this kiss.
04:03It had to be on the magic moment, whatever that means.
04:06Carter found it particularly difficult to even walk through the fields.
04:10Fortunately, it came out splendidly.
04:13And A Room with a View became an acclaimed British classic.
04:16It was like, okay, you're on, let's just do the kiss.
04:18Julian, you stand there, Helena just walks, walk.
04:21It's very hard to walk across a plowed field in high heels and, oh God, it was hard work.
04:25I just knew I had to get him, get to him without falling down.
04:30And then not laugh.
04:31Number seven, Claire and Owen, Jurassic World.
04:34The exhibit opens to the public in three weeks.
04:36Mr. Mizrani wanted me to consult with you.
04:41You want to consult here or in my bungalow?
04:45That's not funny.
04:48You wouldn't think that a sci-fi action film would have any kisses or even much romance
04:52at all.
04:53And you'd be right.
04:55In the original script, Owen and Claire, played by Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, respectively,
05:01did not kiss at all.
05:02What is that supposed to mean?
05:04It means I'm ready to go.
05:07Okay.
05:09Let's get one thing straight.
05:10I'm in charge out here.
05:11You do everything I say exactly as I say it.
05:13Excuse me?
05:14Just relax.
05:15Both Pratt and Howard initially performed the chaotic scene of the dinosaur attacks
05:19as written.
05:20But on the last day of shooting, director Colin Trevorrow suggested that Pratt kiss
05:25Howard as a surprise.
05:27The results were stunning, a naturally spontaneous moment, and this shot was kept in the final
05:32cut.
05:33Thank goodness.
05:35Pratt.
05:42We work together.
05:44Number 6.
05:45William and Rita.
05:46Edge of Tomorrow.
05:48Now this kiss was something different.
05:50According to script writer Christopher McQuarrie, this sci-fi action film was always going to
05:55have a kiss between Tom Cruise's William Cage and Emily Blunt's Rita Vretasky.
06:01You see how they become friends and how he really starts to care about her and she's
06:07basically all he wants to save.
06:09But fitting in the kiss naturally proved very difficult, especially amid the chaos of the
06:14action and the time loop drama.
06:17The filmmakers had finally given up on it when they shot the attack scene at the end
06:21of the film.
06:22You're a good man, Cage.
06:25I wish I had the chance to know you better.
06:28After hearing the characters' parting words, Emily Blunt finally went for it.
06:32This passionate kiss turned out spectacularly, all thanks to Blunt's initiative.
06:37I think if we look at each other and then we go.
06:39Hope to see you tomorrow.
06:42Number 5.
06:43Rey and Kylo Ren.
06:45Star Wars Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker.
06:48Reylo shippers rejoice.
06:50Granted, the mysterious connection between talented orphan Rey and Kylo Ren-turned-Ben
06:55has been one of the most controversial of the whole series.
06:58In this scene, Ben uses the Force to bring Rey back from the dead.
07:02In the aftermath, the two unexpectedly kiss platonically?
07:17Actor Daisy Ridley affirms she played the kiss as a farewell.
07:21Director J.J. Abrams claimed it was mere brother-sister affection,
07:25and the film's novelization contextualized it as one of gratitude.
07:29My feeling in that moment was it was a goodbye.
07:32Yeah.
07:33So that felt earned.
07:35Because, I mean, you could call a kiss a thousand things, but I felt like it was a goodbye.
07:40And that whole scene felt so emotional.
07:43Whatever it was, we could have had no kiss at all with Colin Trevorrow
07:47and Derek Connolly's original version of the film.
07:50And I...
07:51J.J. was like, you good?
07:52Literally immediately started, like, crying my eyes out because it really felt like goodbye.
07:58Number four.
07:59Three-way kiss.
08:00Challengers.
08:01This kiss turned out to be one of the best parts of this film,
08:04which looks at a three-way relationship.
08:06Yeah, no, you're right. That is a very cute story.
08:08Thanks.
08:14We're out of beer.
08:15The movie follows the relationships of a tennis coach, played by Zendaya,
08:19with her husband and her ex-boyfriend.
08:21This love triangle turns into a love circle with the inclusion of a kiss,
08:25with all three participating.
08:27We were talking the other day about how, like, people see our side,
08:30but they don't realize that the other side is, like, a crew of people.
08:33Yeah, yeah, yeah.
08:34Like, we're not alone in that room.
08:36Like, there's a camera, like, coming in.
08:39It's great, it's wild, and it's not originally in the script.
08:43Director Luca Guadagnino discussed the possibility of a true love triangle
08:47with scriptwriter Justin Kuritskis, which prompted changes into the script.
08:52It turned out beautifully, so all's well that ends well.
08:55If you are good at this, you will be a fool,
08:58and you want to put yourself into being a fool, right?
09:01So, like, you—but in order to do that,
09:03you have to feel comfortable enough to allow yourself to be in that ridiculous position.
09:12A kiss between the wife of a con artist husband and his mistress?
09:16We're sold already.
09:18In this scene, Jennifer Lawrence's Rosalyn
09:21jealously confronts Amy Adams' Sydney in a bathroom.
09:24At the end, she kisses her in warning and walks away with a cruel laugh.
09:34It's an inspired choice that makes this confrontation scene unique and memorable.
09:39And, as you may have guessed it, it was not at all written in the script.
09:44We both start laughing because we would just make such a scene.
09:46We were both playing these women.
09:47Like, these kind of women are just so fun to play.
09:50And then we kissed.
09:52How was that?
09:53Yeah, that was great.
09:54Funnily enough, it was Adams herself who came up with the idea,
09:57while Lawrence executed it with cannily brilliant actor Pinoche.
10:01It came out beautifully regardless.
10:03Well, we talked about that, so it was—
10:05No, you and Jennifer.
10:06Yeah, no, no, no. I know.
10:08Did you know where I was going?
10:09I did. I did.
10:10I don't suppose when you're talking about the kiss,
10:12you're talking about any of the other kisses.
10:13Any of the other kisses.
10:14With the boys.
10:15They really want to know about that kiss.
10:17She brought it up.
10:18She does a great job at it.
10:25This is arguably one of the most iconic movie kisses in recent years.
10:28You have a knack for getting in trouble.
10:30You have a knack for saving my life.
10:33I think I have a superhero stalker.
10:35When Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man saves Mary Jane from thugs in an alleyway,
10:39she gives him an indelible kiss in the rain for his act of valor.
10:43Unfortunately, this kiss almost didn't happen
10:45because it was that difficult to pull off.
10:48It turns out that removing someone's mask
10:50and kissing them in the freezing rain is not the easiest thing to do.
10:53He really wanted to make it special,
10:55even though it was kind of miserable actually doing it.
10:58It was pouring rain, freezing, Tobey couldn't breathe,
11:01so it was almost like I was resuscitating him.
11:03Also, Tobey Maguire was almost suffocating
11:06while rain seeped into his nostrils.
11:08So it was nigh torture.
11:10Fortunately, they were able to get through the scene in one piece,
11:14which came out fantastically.
11:16Rain was pouring up my nose,
11:18and then she was kissing me,
11:20and I couldn't breathe out of my mouth,
11:22and I had to hold my breath while I was kissing her.

11:40Number 1. Bob and Charlotte. Lost in Translation
11:44Even decades later, this tender farewell scene still prompts discourse.
11:49Aren't you gonna wish me and have a good fright or something?
11:52Yeah, right.
11:59Okay. Bye.
12:01We have known that Bill Murray's mysterious whisper
12:04in Scarlett Johansson's ear was improvised
12:06in this Sofia Coppola film.
12:08Coppola said that Murray would often improvise on set,
12:11so much so that not even Coppola knew what Murray had whispered.
12:15But as it turns out, the kiss itself was also improvised.
12:19Can you confirm or deny that's what he said?
12:21Oh my God, that sounds pretty profound.
12:24Probably way more profound than what was actually said.
12:28Although it's brief, the scene is beautifully shot,
12:31and Murray and Johansson's chemistry is evident.
12:34It's a tender moment as ambiguous as the whisper
12:37and is considered one of the greatest movie endings for a reason.
12:41Bye.
12:42Bye.
12:43Bye.
12:44Which other great movie kiss do you know
12:46could have easily been cut out in the editing room?
12:49Let us know in the comments below.
12:51Still, it was nice kissing her.
12:53I managed to sneak some pleasure out of it.
