00:07Selangor chapter's leadership, has been attributed to a mix of merit and legacy by political

00:13analysts.

00:15University Science Malaysia's Ahmad Fauzi Abdul Hamid said Gobind's popularity at the

00:20national level seemed unaffected by his Selangor DAP loss, which can be seen as a blip he may

00:26or may not have mended.

00:29Fauzi said Gobind has demonstrated remarkable perseverance as a leader, with a DAP loyalist

00:36family background and ministerial experience to bolster his leadership credentials.

00:42Wong Chin-hwat of Sunway University said the election results last week showed that the

00:47newly appointed DAP chairman was not Lim Kwan-ying's man, but a leader accepted across various factions

00:54in the party.

00:56MP Siwa Murugan, also of USM, said Gobind was preferred by all camps in DAP, as he was

01:03perceived as following in his late father Karpal Singh's legacy.

01:08Last Sunday, Gobind topped the CEC elections with 2,785 votes and took over from Lim as

01:15national chairman, despite failing to be elected to the 15-member Selangor DAP leadership in

01:22November.
