00:00Luxury cruising is the worst form of travel for the environment and climate.
00:31They release carbon dioxide, methane, but also black carbon, all of which cause climate change.
00:38They also emit nitrogen and sulfur oxides as well as particulate matter.
01:00Cruise ships are floating cities powered by some of the dirtiest fuels possible.
01:22They spew out toxic fumes that do immeasurable harm to both those on board as well as on nearby shores.
01:52There are enough technologies to clean up cruise ships.
02:21But unfortunately, the industry doesn't seem to be willing to make the ships voluntarily.
02:28For this reason, we need the governments to step in and to regulate the sector.
02:51Because of COVID-19, the cruise industry was reduced to a standstill.
03:11In these difficult times, if the cruise operators want state support, they should no longer be allowed to pollute with impunity.
03:19We recommend the governments, especially those in Europe and North America, to require zero emission operations on all luxury cruises.
03:28These standards should apply to operations both inside the ports, but also along the coastline.
