00:00The Philippines is now more prepared for a possible strong earthquake, according to PHEVOX.

00:05Different preparations have helped a lot, including the quarterly simultaneous earthquake drill.

00:17Compared to previous years, the Philippines is now more prepared for a strong earthquake.

00:23This is what PHEVOX Director Dr. Teresito Bacolcol said in the program, Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon.

00:29NDRRMC's quarterly simultaneous earthquake drill is a big help

00:35to let the public know what to do before and after the earthquake.

00:39Because of this, the public becomes more aware of the possible effects of the earthquake.

00:45Bacolcol made the statement after the magnitude 7.7 earthquake hit Myanmar and Thailand,

00:51which killed many people.

00:53But is it possible for a magnitude 7.7 earthquake to hit the country?

00:58Yes. It's higher than the magnitude 7.7 earthquake that we can experience.

01:03In fact, we experienced this before.

01:06On July 16, 1990, the magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit the country.

01:11On August 17, 1976, we had a magnitude 8.1 earthquake in Mindanao.

01:20In the entire Philippines, the active fault segments and six trenches are up to 180.

01:26All of these have the capacity to move or move slowly to a strong earthquake.

01:34The government is preparing for the possible hit of the so-called the big one,

01:39which is the infrastructure vulnerability, particularly in Metro Manila.

01:45Most of the houses, roofs and other areas are not earthquake resistant.

01:50Retrofitting and reinforcing buildings are important and this is what our government is doing.

01:56It is also better if there is always an emergency kit or emergency bag with food,
