00:00The number of scams passed through the text has decreased but the number of scam calls in the first half of the year is based on the data of a group.

00:24Based on the data of a global anti-scam application in the first half of 2025, the number of scam calls increased by 74.32% compared to the last quarter of 2024.

00:36It's more than 200% higher compared to the first quarter of 2024.

00:42Meanwhile, the number of text scams decreased by 68.83% based on the data of the last half of 2024.

00:50According to the group, this means that the tactics are changing.

00:54Scammers are now more effective in reporting against these scams and the public's knowledge is expanding.

01:01One of the solutions against scammers is the SIM Card Registration Act.

01:05But it's admitted that even though the DICT is new, it still needs to be tightened in the implementation of the law.

01:13According to DICT Secretary Henry Aguda, they will review the system implemented by telecommunications companies in registering SIM cards.

01:22So the intent of the law is to minimize if not eradicate scams.

01:27Now like most laws that have been implemented, because it's still new, there are areas for improvement.

01:33And the telcos right now, I'm happy to tell you, they're working on improving their registration process.

01:40It's said that it's necessary for scammers not to use data privacy to continue their illegal activities.

01:48So the nice thing about it is the Data Privacy Commission is with the DICT.

01:51We balance security with privacy.

01:55If there are scammed texts and calls, they can be reported to the hotline of the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Council or CICC.
