00:00Lieutenant General Tadese Wereda was named the interim president of the Tigray region on Tuesday,
00:07replacing Tadese Wereda.
00:09Before his appointment, Tadese acted as the deputy president of Tigray's interim administration
00:14and head of the cabinet secretariat for peace and security.
00:19He has been mandated to ensure the full return of the internally displaced persons to their homes.
00:24In a one-page document he signed, he is also expected to ensure the swift disarmament and re-integration
00:30of former combatants in line with the Pretoria Agreement.
00:34The Suarin ceremony was attended by key dignitaries from the government
00:37and the newly elected chairperson of the African Union, Mahmoud Ali Yusuf.
00:42There were concerns in the region that the widening political split between the Tigray People's Liberation Front, TPLF,
00:48could have full-fledged civil war like the one that ended in 2022 with the signing of a peace agreement.
