00:00Hopefully, my voice will make it through this show, okay?
00:05Hey fam, what's up, what's up, what's up? This is Robert Anton here at RobertAnton.com
00:09Coming to you with your no frills, the voice commentary from a singer!
00:12Yes, sorry! It's the third night of the blinds, can you believe it?
00:16And it started out with the show with the words from the coaches, then some clips from last week's blinds,
00:21and also a tally of the teams so far.
00:24And Pharrell had the most people on his team so far with five.
00:29And I was like, wow, he is really racking it up.
00:31And I kind of noticed that a lot of people like in their pre-interviews are saying,
00:34Oh, I really would like to work with Pharrell, I really would love to work with Pharrell.
00:37I'm like, oh my god, he's like bringing the fire right now.
00:41Here we go, the first contestant tonight was John Martin, he was 25, he did Sweet Pea by Amos Lee.
00:46And he brought his guitar and started out whistling, nice little strong whistle too.
00:50And nice looking guy, and he's a preacher's kid.
00:53Blake turned for him first, and he had a nice jovial sound with some attempts into falsetto.
00:58Gwyn and Pharrell also chimed in for him.
01:01Blake said there's something cool and laid back about what he does.
01:04Pharrell told him he had a great voice and his identity came through.
01:08Gwyn called his voice delicious and said he had a creamy tone.
01:12And Adam made fun of that.
01:14And John chose Blake for his coach.
01:16Jessie Pitts was up next, she was 18, did the story by Brandi Carlile.
01:20And she sang three words and Gwyn chimed in and then Blake followed suit.
01:24She had that artsy Melanie Martinez sound with a little flutter added to it.
01:29And I think someone mentioned the little yodel.
01:31I liked how intent and engaging she was with the audience.
01:34And she was really like just kind of leaning in like to the camera like she was going to kiss you while she was singing or something.
01:40I really liked that, that was really nice, a nice touch.
01:42Gwyn had a lot of nice things to say about what she loved about her voice.
01:46Pharrell said the yodeling thing she did was amazing.
01:50Blake called her voice a bowl of Lucky Charms, marshmallows only.
01:56Whatever that means.
01:57And Jessie chose Gwyn because she felt like Gwyn knew what to do with her voice.
02:03Then we had Michael Stein.
02:04He was 62, he did The Devil Went Down to Georgia, the Charlie Daniels Band.
02:08And he actually played the violin to start his song.
02:11I think that's a first on the voice.
02:13I thought this was a fun choice but was feeling like it was, it really wasn't showing off his voice.
02:19Since it's more of a like quickly spoken like patter song and none of the coaches turned around for him.
02:25Blake said he would have liked to hear a song that demonstrated more range and Pharrell agreed with him.
02:31Gwyn said it was more chanty than singing.
02:34You know when you choose a song for any audition.
02:36Unless it's a song where you know that the character or something has a lot of ba ba ba.
02:40But you want to have something that actually has some oomph to it.
02:43That has some sound coming out.
02:45You know if I'm just sitting here and I'm talking and this is it.
02:47Unless you're a rapper.
02:48You know.
02:49But you gotta give us some tone.
02:52You gotta give us some range in order for us to hear what your voice sounds like.
02:56So he didn't quite give that.
02:58If you are enjoying the commentary make sure to thumb it up.
03:00This is Robert Anton.
03:01Make sure to send it around to your friends.
03:03On all your social media sites.
03:04And let people know that we are here discussing the voice.
03:07And of course we've got the comments section.
03:09So let me know what you thought of the performances.
03:11The judges choices.
03:12The interactions.
03:13Anything that stood out to you.
03:15Let me know about it down in the comments.
03:17Next up we had Ricky Manning.
03:18He was 19.
03:19He did Love Me Again by John Newman.
03:21And he started out and had a really nice sound.
03:23He had a great impressive little vocal turn that got Blake to scream.
03:27Woo!
03:28Then he brought a little roughness to the proceedings.
03:31And Pharrell chimed in.
03:32And then Blake.
03:33Pharrell stood for him.
03:34And he busts in New York City.
03:36But this is another one that I have never seen him around anywhere.
03:38Pharrell said he turned because his runs were consistent.
03:41Blake said he has something special inside that needs to be heard.
03:45And Ricky chose Pharrell for his coach.
03:48Then we got a little collage of people who did not get a chair turn.
03:50Misty, Jeremy Cole, and Samantha Samson.
03:53They all got just a little space time but they didn't get chairs to turn.
03:56Kelly Douglas was 31.
03:57She did Danny's Song by Kenny Loggins.
03:59And she had a little nervous moment when she first started.
04:02But you just have to keep going through that moment because it does dissipate.
04:05And she did.
04:06She just kept going.
04:07Adam was the first to chime in while Blake was trying to get Gwen to turn.
04:10Kelly's vocal and performance was very understated and a little shaky.
04:13But she had a nice tone and sincerity.
04:15Blake also turned for her near the end.
04:17She got three coaches to turn.
04:19Adam pointed out that she was nervous, even petrified, he said.
04:22And started flirting with her.
04:24Gwen told her she loved her raspiness and how her voice breaks.
04:28Blake called her voice mysterious and haunting.
04:30And also mentioned the quick breaks in her voice.
04:33And Kelly chose Adam.
04:35She said because he seemed genuine and turned around first.
04:38Next we had Blessing Offer.
04:39He was 25.
04:40He did Just the Two of Us by Bill Withers.
04:42And I was getting a little of him being out of sync or out of key when he started.
04:46And the coaches were taking their time listening to him.
04:48I was pulling for him though because of his story.
04:50I couldn't help myself.
04:51He was blind.
04:52He played several instruments.
04:53He's very inspirational in the way he spoke.
04:56But it wasn't exactly perfect.
04:58Okay.
04:59But at the end, all four coaches turned for him at the very last minute.
05:03Gwen said his voice sounded a lot like Pharrell's voice when he first came in and called his tone gorgeous.
05:08Adam said he was a half step off the whole time.
05:12Pharrell talked to him about mixing genres.
05:14And Blessing chose Pharrell because of his track record in music.
05:18And I think that's a pretty good matchup.
05:20What do you think?
05:21And what did you think of the performance?
05:22And why did the judges end up turning around even though he was out of tune?
05:27And he was actually playing the keyboards.
05:29And I, you know, that's kind of hard for me to understand.
05:32Maybe you guys have something to say down in the comments.
05:35Troy Ritchie was up next.
05:36He was 21.
05:37He did Out of My League by Fitz and the Tantrums.
05:39And he sounded nothing like I thought he would.
05:41And he was so goofy in his pre-roll and stuff.
05:44And his voice just didn't sound like, you know, like when he was singing.
05:48It just didn't sound like he did in his pre-roll.
05:50Gwen turned for him first as he was rocking out.
05:53Kind of reminded me of like Robert Plant kind of performer, kind of singer.
05:57It's funny because he was giving a lot of energy while just standing there at the mic with his guitar.
06:01But I was getting all of this stuff coming off of him.
06:04It was really nice.
06:05Adam was surprised at how he looked and called it really interesting.
06:08Gwen mentioned his seamless control from chest to head voice.
06:12And was it me or did Troy not seem to be excited to be on team Gwen?
06:16Because she was the only one who turned for him.
06:18Yeah, I don't know.
06:19Everybody just met me out of here.
06:20He just didn't seem excited.
06:21Okay.
06:22Cole Wilkinson was up next.
06:23He was 16.
06:24He did classic by MKTO.
06:25And he was singing and dancing and hyping the crowd.
06:28So young.
06:29Just a decent voice but a definite performer.
06:31I think he was having a hard time reaching some of the higher notes.
06:34But he got them out and was running out of steam as he went along.
06:37I don't know if it was because the judges weren't turning or just because he was getting winded.
06:4190 seconds though.
06:42He was dancing and stuff but whatever.
06:44None of the coaches ended up turning for him.
06:46Adam told him to come back and not move as much.
06:48Gwen said it sounding amazing when he was hitting the higher notes in full voice.
06:52Pharrell told him to come back, plant his feet and give them some soul.
06:57Mia Furman was up next.
06:58She was 19.
06:59She did Unconditionally by Katy Perry.
07:01And she came to conquer with that song choice.
07:04And gave a nice vocal turn early on that made Adam perk up his ears.
07:09She was coming off just a little nasal.
07:11But I loved how she was hitting the notes.
07:13And she had a really big moment where she took it even higher than Katy Perry.
07:17Adam and Blake turned for her and then Pharrell and Gwen chimed in.
07:22They were almost at the last minute of the song.
07:24Blake said her performance of that song was incredible though it lacked a little finesse.
07:28Adam said she had some world class spectacular moments but she needed some refinement.
07:32Gwen told her she could help her find who she is as an artist.
07:35Pharrell said she took a lot of chances vocally and sang this like it was her one and only moment.
07:41Mia chose Adam because she said he was really persistent and his pitch spoke to her.
07:46Then we got a short montage of people who did make it onto teams.
07:49Alessandra Castronova got onto team Adam.
07:51Jordan Searcy went to team Pharrell.
07:53And Kensington Moore went to team Blake.
07:55Then Brie Fondacaro performed It Ain't Me Babe by Bob Dylan.
07:59And she had a nice breathy sound when she started this song.
08:02And I was just waiting for her to bring a little more dynamic.
08:04You know bring us maybe a little big note maybe swell it down or something like that.
08:07And she started to do that or sounded like she started to do that.
08:11But then Blake chimed around and then they had the family jumping and stuff and I didn't really get to hear it.
08:15So maybe I'll get to hear it later on.
08:17Gwen said she was close to turning and she loved the originality in her voice.
08:21Blake said her voice has a rawness that reminds him of Bonnie Tyler.
08:24And of course she's on team Blake because he's the only one who turned around for her.
08:28And last but not least we had Anita Antoinette.
08:30She did Turn Your Lights Down Low by Bob Marlin.
08:32And she's returning from season 3.
08:34She picked up the guitar this time and seemed more grounded and got Blake and Gwen to chime in immediately.
08:39Followed by Adam and Pharrell.
08:41Four chair turns when she did not get one the first time around.
08:44Wonderful.
08:45At some point in the song she went into the Jamaican Patois and she was very authentic.
08:48Of course she was from Jamaica.
08:50I found that out later.
08:51But it was just very very nice.
08:53And she gave us a bit of the bigger notes near the end as well.
08:57So it was a well rounded performance for me.
08:59Very heartfelt.
09:00All the coaches stood for her.
09:01And then Blake remembered her.
09:02I was like oh I remember you.
09:04Adam mentioned Tessanne Chid.
09:05You know she was one of my team you know.
09:08Blake pointed out that country music was about stories in his pitch.
09:11And you know she was talking she was a songwriter and blah blah blah and the other.
09:15And Anita chose Gwen because she felt more of a connection with her.
09:18And I think that's a really good match.
09:20What I also think is it might be an opportunity for her to go up against the other reggae artists.
09:25So they would actually just get to do some reggae in the battle round together.
09:29So that should be exciting.
09:31That's your commentary.
09:33This is Robert Anton.
09:34RobertAnton.com
09:35Make sure to thumb it up.
09:36Comment.

09:41Oh if you stuck around to the end make sure to put stuck around down in the comments.
09:44And I will see you guys tomorrow night 8pm for The Voice NBC.
09:48I'm so excited.
09:49Oh my god.
09:50I'm out.
09:51Peace.
