00:00I love Clara. Clara is Hector's love, Hector's other half, Hector's girlfriend, I suppose.
00:08But they've been in this comfy girlfriend-boyfriend thing for a long time.
00:12They have the kind of order that you can only get when you're a childless couple with two incomes,
00:19two professionals living in a nice, streamlined, ordered, tidy life,
00:27doing their own things, having their own pursuits.
00:29But somehow they've never made the commitment.
00:31They've never got married. They've never decided to have a child.
00:33And, you know, I think they're just very safe in their coupledom.
00:37And I think both of them need to go on a journey.
00:38Both of them need to be prepared to take risks in life.
00:43I think Clara's happy in, as far as she understands the word, yeah,
00:47I think she's happy in things being contained and things being ordered.
00:52I think that gives her a sense of security, which makes her feel comfortable.
00:56But I think if she's pushed to say,
01:01is she experiencing exuberant, spontaneous joy,
01:04then no, on a daily basis she's not.
01:06And I think, you know, the film is kind of about a sort of freedom,
01:11a sort of inner freedom that brings her happiness,
01:14a kind of freedom to be really who you are, whatever the cost.
01:17And I think both Hector and Clara learned to do that,
01:22that they can just sort of be silly
01:26and sort of break the framework, I suppose, in a way,
01:29and that happiness will survive that.
01:31I think at the beginning they both feel that
01:33their happiness is dependent on order
01:36and dependent on routine
01:37and dependent on everything functioning brilliantly.
01:40and then they learn that things can be looser.
01:47I love the script.
01:48I love what Peter's done with the script.
01:52I love the way Peter thinks about the film.
01:55It's a joyous film.
01:56I mean, it's a film exploring what it means to be a human being.
02:00And for me, that's what cinema is.
02:02It's a way for us to sit in a dark room
02:04and share with other human beings
02:06what it feels like to be human.
02:08And it's a profoundly human story, and I love that.
02:11And I also love telling love stories.
02:14I think, you know, in a way,
02:17films have steered away from telling
02:19just the simple joy of a great love story.
02:24And those are the sort of films I want to watch
02:27and those are the kind of films I want to make.
02:28So it's a joy to do that.
02:29And I did a film with Simon Pegg last year,
02:35the one that he wrote called The World's End.
02:37And I think to work with the same actor again,
02:39it just gives so much depth
02:41to a relationship portrayed on screen
02:43because, you know, once you're familiar with each other,
02:45you feel comfortable around each other,
02:47and then you just add another dimension
02:49by feeding that into two new characters.
02:51And it's really exciting.
02:53Freedom.
02:54I feel that happiness is...
02:57is about the freedom to really be who you are
03:01and the freedom to explore life
03:05and have no fears, really.
03:07I mean, I know fear is...
03:09In the animal kingdom,
03:11fear, you know, is useful as an animal trait.
03:14But I think to be with people
03:16that you feel at ease with
03:17and don't have to feel nervous around
03:19and feeling comfortable in your own skin,
03:22I mean, I think that's happiness.
03:23I mean, I think that's what it is.
03:24I mean, I think that's what it is.
03:24I mean, I think that's what it is.
03:24I mean, I think that's what it is.
03:24I mean, I think that's what it is.
03:24I mean, I think that's what it is.
03:24I mean, I think that's what it is.
03:24I mean, I think that's what it is.
03:25I mean, I think that's what it is.
03:25I mean, I think that's what it is.
03:25I mean, I think that's what it is.
03:26I mean, I think that's what it is.
03:26I mean, I think that's what it is.
03:27I think that's what it is.
03:28I think that's what it is.
03:29I think that's what it is.
03:30I think that's what it is.
03:31I think that's what it is.
