Transcript
00:00This is K. Annamalai, IPS-turned politician and the ex-BJP president of Tamil Nadu.
00:06The BJP replaced him on 11th April 2025 with Nainar Nagendran.
00:10Nainar Nagendran is a BJP legislator from Tirunel Veli constituency in Tamil Nadu.
00:15Why was this move made?
00:16Basically, to secure an electoral alliance with the AIADMK before the upcoming state elections in 2026.
00:30In 2023, when Annamalai was the BJP president, he took on ex-chief minister and former AIADMK supremo Jay Jayalalita, calling her administration corrupt.
00:54In response to this, the AIADMK passed a resolution against Annamalai and ended their alliance with the BJP for the 2024 general elections.
01:02But why Nagendran?
01:03Nainar Nagendran was a member of the AIADMK till 2017, when he left the party and joined the BJP.
01:09He even served as a minister when the AIADMK was in power between 2001 and 2006.
01:14In the BJP, he has always had the attention of the high command due to his image of a seasoned politician and his ability to counter the BMK and get along with the AIADMK.
01:22K. Annamalai, on the other hand, is not being shunned.
01:25Reportedly, he will get a bigger national role at the centre.
01:28Take a look at this tweet from Home Minister Amit Shah from 11th April 2025,
01:31where he clearly mentions how K. Annamalai will be utilised in the BJP's national framework.
