00:00:00...alongside him on that row of the grid has been now qualified by Antonio Felix da Costa for a second successive race.
00:00:06David Beckman, his first ever dual appearance for the Cupra Kiro team and his first ever dual appearance also for Lola at Yamaha with Lucas de Grassi.
00:00:15They'll be aiming for some points. Stoffel van Dorn, his best start of the season. He's the only driver to score points in every race.
00:00:21De Vries also equals Mahindra's best ever start in season 11.
00:00:25Robin Fryt, an equal best start for Envision of season 11 as well, making it two Dutchman.
00:00:30Inside the top five. Da Costa heads at the second row of the grid. He'll be aiming for a record equaling victory this afternoon.
00:00:36Jake Dennis, his first front row start since Berlin 24.
00:00:39He's won five races from the front row and Norman Nato takes his first ever formulary pole.
00:00:43The 25th for the Nissan team. He'll be aiming to replicate Nico Pross's win for the same outfit here in 2015.
00:00:51So tension is in the air. Billy Munger, it's electric quite literally down there on the grid.
00:00:55What are you expecting when lights go out?
00:00:57Well, I mean, the first thing I notice on the grid is just the heat that is coming off the surface of this track.
00:01:02It is definitely hotted up compared to the conditions we had in practice and qualifying earlier.
00:01:06So I think the drivers, they're going to have to be super careful with managing those surface temperatures of the tires.
00:01:12If they go over the limit with it, they will lose the grip.
00:01:15And I think they'll really struggle to roll those minimum corner speeds through corners, which is so critical in Formula E for energy efficiency.
00:01:21It's a very fast paced circuit. This one, James, no real big stops on this track.
00:01:25We're expecting it as a result to be an energy efficient race, meaning essentially that we're not expecting the pace to be representative of qualifying pace,
00:01:32at least within the first half, maybe even three-quarters of it.
00:01:34I think we're going to see the leader really dictate the pace.
00:01:37And it's a bit of an unknown right now how fast they're going to go, whether they're trying to save a lot of energy as a pack in the beginning of the race
00:01:43and have a faster finish or whether or not they're going to try and spread that energy out equally.
00:01:47And it's part of the excitement of what we're about to see.
00:01:50I wonder what's going to happen for Oliver Rowland. He's mired down there in 16th position on the grid.
00:01:54Jake Hughes also normally a brilliant qualifier down in 21st position.
00:01:58Can they keep out of trouble when it all concertina's up in the very tight first corner?
00:02:0326 laps of action for the drivers, two attack modes available for them as well, eight minutes in total for the drivers.
00:02:10Let's see what happens as the five red lights come on.
00:02:12It's time for Magic in Miami as lights go out and we go racing.
00:02:16Great start from Jake Dennis, not bad from Norman Nato.
00:02:19Keep an eye out as well for Dacosta on the inside as well as De Vries looking to try and squeeze Robin Freitz down to the first corner.
00:02:24But Nato it is the lead. Are they all going to be facing in the right direction as they come through the first corner?
00:02:29Looks like it was a pretty good start for everybody at least in the front half of the field.
00:02:33The upshot is though, it's Nato that still retains the lead.
00:02:36On the inside there is Dacosta against Jake Dennis coming through into turn four.
00:02:41Dennis has got the inside line. Dacosta holds the line around the outside and gets himself up through in the takoya Porsche into second.
00:02:49It looks like Antonio is on a bit of a charge. I'm not sure he wants to be at the front quite yet.
00:02:52But yeah, everyone fanning out three wide as they come into turn six.
00:02:56Look at the gaps of the cars at the back. They're really spaced out. They took it super easy for his first few corners.
00:03:01I think they know that they're going to have an opportunity to get onto the back of the pack really as this first lap kind of unfolds.
00:03:08And they were super cautious as you said through turn one and two.
00:03:10You can see all these drivers lifting and coasting. We're almost four abreast there as Sebastian Buemi looks on the inside of Pascal Wehrlein.
00:03:16He's going to get boxed in a little bit here down at turn eight. This is a crucial overtaking opportunity on the lap.
00:03:21But the problem is you come out of that through turn nine into the chicane.
00:03:25It's a one line through here, but not for Sebastian Buemi who's looking on the inside.
00:03:28Can he make it stick? It gets pretty close through there, but just about. He's out of trouble.
00:03:35It's a bit of team radio coming through, but Nato it is that still holds the lead.
00:03:38The lap times, as you can see there, De Vries going through or looking to on the inside of Da Costa into the final sector.
00:03:45And looking to go through into the lead quite possibly here against Norman Nato.
00:03:48Tries to haul it around the outside. He's got the inside line as we come onto the banking for the first time.
00:03:53And then Mahindra leads the race for the first time in a very long time as now De Vries is in front.
00:03:58But Da Costa not ready to try and let that come to the fore as he goes into the first corner side by side here with Norman Nato.
00:04:05It's tight through there, but Da Costa's got the inside line and Nato now relegated back to third.
00:04:11Yeah, it definitely seems like they're spread out there.
00:04:13No one's really sure what pace they should be running at this first part of the race.
00:04:16And we see Nick De Vries taking the lead. Bold move by him. Let's see what pace he wants to really conduct.
00:04:23Yeah, through turn four, this is where the attack mode will be activated in the race.
00:04:27The general consensus seems to be down on the grid that it's going to be sort of later attack mode.
00:04:30Some who are maybe even further down the order could be quite bold with it.
00:04:33That's a bold move as well there for Sebastian Buwemi trying to make some ground.
00:04:38In fact, that's Robin Freintz, isn't it, who's side-by-side now then with Norman Nato for third place.
00:04:43Not quite able to get his way through, but you can see they're all sort of breaking, lifting, and coasting at different points here.
00:04:48They're nowhere near maximum pace, Billy.
00:04:51Yeah, and the first sector alone, compared to qualifying, five seconds slower than what we saw in qualifying just in the first sector of the lap.
00:04:58So that really shows how much energy they're trying to save in this early phase of the race.
00:05:03Really super tactical stuff we're seeing out there.
00:05:06Look at the two envisions there. Sebastian Buwemi's had a great start to this one.
00:05:09He's up inside the top ten, and I suppose that's the benefit of races like this, James,
00:05:13is you can cycle your way through the field. Qualifying, though it is important to stay out of trouble,
00:05:18especially in those first couple of corners, if you can do that, you are able to make your way up through the field.
00:05:22But I suppose the converse of that is you're using more energy.
00:05:25Yes, but Sebastian, a very experienced driver. He knows how to get to the front and win one of these races,
00:05:30so he knows he needs to be in the top five, stay out of trouble. He can be efficient in fifth place,
00:05:35but he can spend very little energy to gain all those places to be sat there at the beginning, and he's done that very well.
00:05:42I'm interested in seeing how two envisions being so close to each other potentially play any, you know, team tactics,
00:05:48because we saw in the earlier practice sessions the teams were running with both their cars to see the difference in efficiency
00:05:53from one car to another, but also now they've got two in the top five,
00:05:57how will they use each other to keep energy efficiency maybe more than the guys around them?
00:06:02Yeah, but the end scene with two drivers from the same outfit inside that top five,
00:06:06the only other ones that you can really see close to each other on track are the two Jaguars down in 15th and 16th place,
00:06:11respectively, so they're not really in the running for these top positions.
00:06:14Wehrlein there with Beckmann on his inside on the fringes of the top ten.
00:06:18We ride on board with Nick de Vries, who continues leading this race from Antonio Fittings to Costa.
00:06:24Disadvantage here for de Vries is, of course, he's going to be expending more energy.
00:06:27Drivers that are in his slipstream, they can lift and coast a bit earlier,
00:06:31save that energy in the early stages of the race and hopefully use that to their advantage later on.
00:06:35It means de Vries is going to have a bit of hard work if the race goes traditionally without a safety car until the end of this one.
00:06:40Focus on full efficiency.
00:06:44So de Vries being told to focus on efficiency, he lined up inside the top ten, seventh place on the grid,
00:06:49he's down an eighth at the moment, so he's sort of not really moved from where he started.
00:06:52So how you do that is you really focus on your minimum speed, your lift-off point,
00:06:57and making sure your minimum speed is as high as possible in the corner.
00:07:01That's how you maintain efficiency.
00:07:02And then smooth on the throttle on the exit, early lift-off for the next corner.
00:07:06Even the dasping kicks up there at the moment as well.
00:07:09So lap time's probably down 1.35 there and thereabouts.
00:07:11We're, what, 10, 12 seconds off the pace we saw in quality lately.
00:07:14Yeah, this is crazy.
00:07:16I mean, even in other championships, we don't see margins this different.
00:07:19That just shows how the efficiency is really critical in this race.
00:07:23And everyone knew that coming into this weekend.
00:07:25Because of the nature of the circuit for Fulmery,
00:07:27it was very obvious that efficiency was going to be the name of the game here.
00:07:38So team radio there for Oliver Rowland, who is still down in forcing position at the moment.
00:07:44Barnard, by the way, was the driver who kicked up that huge dust cloud that we saw last time around.
00:07:49Barnard now just inside the top ten.
00:07:50There is your championship leader, Oliver Rowland, with two Jaguars very close for company.
00:07:54Nick Cassidy and Mitch Evans, who haven't made too much of an impression at this stage here.
00:07:58I think they're quite comfortable where they are.
00:08:00They can run their own pace.
00:08:01We see at the front there's a bit of a Constantina effect.
00:08:04And that will compromise their minimum speeds.
00:08:06And if you compromise your minimum speed, you compromise your efficiency.
00:08:09So probably Rowland, Cassidy, Evans, they're quite happy to be where they are right now,
00:08:13maximizing their efficiency and trying to give themselves the best chance later on in the race.
00:08:18Van Dorn close with Dennis there, coming into the chicane two-by-two here as well.
00:08:22Taylor Barnard there just with Pascal Verlein close for company.
00:08:26We ride on board with the other tag boy Porsche of Antonia Felix da Costa.
00:08:30Still sitting in the wheel tracks patiently there is Antonia Felix da Costa.
00:08:34Nick de Vries just in front of him right now.
00:08:36You can visibly see the difference in speed through there, can't you?
00:08:39In qualifying, they were struggling to keep within the track limits,
00:08:42and they were kicking up dust constantly through there.
00:08:44Big snaps of oversteer too, but that looked very measured from Antonia Felix da Costa there.
00:08:49So for those who are tuning into Formula E for the first time here, James,
00:08:52and they're watching this race thinking, why are they lifting off and coasting?
00:08:55What is the purpose of that? Why are we seeing this?
00:08:57So we have 38 kilowatts of energy for the race. You regen energy when you're braking,
00:09:03so you recover energy into the battery pack when you're braking.
00:09:07Based on the last lap stuff in particular, it's a very similar deployment.
00:09:11So, yeah, so it's about the equivalent, to put it into petrol perspective, of five litres of fuel to do an entire race.
00:09:23Now, Formula One car burned that in a lap, two laps, so, yeah, it's vastly different.
00:09:29So it's all about energy efficiency in Formula E, and what we're seeing right now is the guys maximising their efficiency,
00:09:34so they can then race harder towards the end of the race.
00:09:37You could split it equally, but then if someone saves a lot of energy, and then you had a safety car,
00:09:42you're at risk of being overtaken. So the strategy that we're seeing is all of the teams and drivers
00:09:46trying to save energy in the beginning part of the race, and we're going to see some great racing
00:09:49as the energy builds up and the laps count down.
00:09:52Absolutely. Let's see what happens there. Norman Nato it is now, who's in front with
00:09:55Antonia Felix da Costa to get the freeze back into third position inside the Andretti garage.
00:09:59Much better, much better.
00:10:02So that's Buemi's engineer saying that he's under consumption, essentially.
00:10:06So, you know, that's a better target that he's going to hit.
00:10:08Yeah, and he's outperforming his target by the sounds of it on that last lap.
00:10:11So whatever he did in that last lap in terms of how he was lifting and coasting,
00:10:15he needs to keep replicating that.
00:10:17Yeah, the problem is you don't know the numbers of the other guys.
00:10:19You only know your teammates. So maybe they think they're doing a great job.
00:10:22Maybe Antonio Felix da Costa sat there in second place is doing a better job.
00:10:26For me, he seems to be the one who's most under control in this race.
00:10:29He's hitting all of his minimum speeds. He's not in the Constantino effect.
00:10:33I think the guys actually in seventh, eighth, ninth, we see them getting compromised,
00:10:37especially when we get to the chicane.
00:10:38They keep fighting each other and that's only going to be to their detriment as the race continues.
00:10:41Yeah, if you look at the gap sort of cycling down the field, it's all pretty close to one another.
00:10:46But, you know, even between first and last, it's still eight, nine seconds.
00:10:48You've got to make that tie up and it's not easy to do that.
00:10:52So lap six out of 26 we're on. There is Florian Modlinger, team principal for the Tank Royer Porsche team.
00:10:57Da Costa in second, Berline down in 11th place at the moment.
00:11:03Norman Nato going through in the lead. So coming down in towards turn eight,
00:11:08this is one of the fastest parts of the track, one of the widest parts as well.
00:11:11You can see visibly that we've had three, four cars wide at some points here.
00:11:16Yeah, super exciting going down there. I think we're going to see a lot of overtaking going on into turn eight later on in the race.
00:11:20Let's have a look at what happened to David Beckman in here.
00:11:22So we're coming into the chicane of turns 10 and 11. We've got a DS Penske on the inside.
00:11:29There's a bit of hip and shoulder there with Jev.
00:11:31Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. You see how much the two cars lost to the car in front.
00:11:34That's just poor efficiency and they were right on the gearbox of Pascal when they went into the corner
00:11:40and they both lost so much and then they have to expand the energy to really catch back up.
00:11:45So it's not efficient at all and not what you should be doing at this phase of the race.
00:11:48Yeah, Verne lucky to miss out on hitting the ball on the outside there.
00:11:52So over the timing line we go. We're starting to see the lap times coming down a little bit,
00:11:56but we're still in the 1.30s. Energy reveal. So this is one thing in Formula 1 that's very unique.
00:12:00The other teams do not know the energy until they see it on screen for the first time here.
00:12:05And the big winners and losers, you can see there especially down the order, Evans and Roland,
00:12:09they've got more energy in their pocket compared to those in front.
00:12:12Well, they look at Da Costa 79% and he's running in second, so he hasn't got to make up that margin
00:12:16that likes of Evans and Roland do.
00:12:18Yeah, that's a higher target than Bird, who is P14.
00:12:26So managing the target there is the name of the game for Norman Nato. Our virtual race engineer
00:12:30has got to manage the tie attempts to fight at the end of the race. That's one of the big talking points
00:12:35that we've had over the course of the weekend here, isn't it? You know, it's a very abrasive surface.
00:12:39Yeah, super interesting actually, because they're running so far off the pace at the minute,
00:12:43because they are a good ten seconds away from where they were in qualifying,
00:12:46they won't be putting that much energy through the tyres in terms of rolling those speeds through
00:12:51the corners and really attacking the tyre and using all the grip available. So that might play
00:12:56into their favour that when they do, you know, really go for it towards the end of the race,
00:12:59they've actually got quite a lot of tyre grip in reserve.
00:13:02The temperature's a lot hotter than they were this morning when we had qualifying for that match.
00:13:06It was just after 2.15 local time here in Miami, and it has gotten a lot hotter over the last couple of hours in particular.
00:13:13Here then is Sam Bird, you can see 13 races since his last podium according to the race statistics there,
00:13:18and he and James would love him to get onto the roster.
00:13:21And we've seen Barnard on the other side of the garage putting in some stonking performances.
00:13:25Bird, with his years of experience in Formula E, could hopefully use that to his advantage.
00:13:30Meanwhile, there is Jake Dennis on the inside of Stoppel van Dorn, down to the first corner.
00:13:37Just in front of Sam Bird here is David Beckman as well, through into this first sector.
00:13:42You can see them all running no to tail.
00:13:44Half a percent more than the Jags, half a percent more than the Jags.
00:13:48Half a percent more efficiency then than the Jags for the Nissan powertrain in the back of that Neon McLaren.
00:13:57Yeah, and considering that Sam's running just in front of them as well, that kind of plays into the strategy and tells him that he's doing well compared to the cars around him.
00:14:06Obviously, the energy differences to the front of the grid are going to be significant because they're having to push harder to stay further up the order.
00:14:13But it seems fairly reassuring for the Neon McLaren.
00:14:16And Taylor Barnard's just made quiet progress up into the, well, he's currently seventh at the minute.
00:14:21So in terms of the championship competitors, he's up in seventh.
00:14:25He's in the points.
00:14:25Oliver Rowland's down in 17th.
00:14:27So he will be eating into his margin if it stays how it is, which obviously it probably won't.
00:14:31So attack modes, two of them available for the drivers in the race.
00:14:34Oh, it's getting close up there into the chicane, isn't it?
00:14:37Two by two, you can just about make it.
00:14:39But two attack mode deployments for the drivers, they've got to do it in either four minutes and four minutes, two minutes and six minutes,
00:14:44or the reverse of that, six minutes and two minutes.
00:14:46No driver, as you can see, with the two dots left against every driver's name on the grid, has made an attack mode deployment in the race.
00:14:53Why is that, James? Why are we not seeing that at this early stage?
00:14:56They get a huge advantage. When you take the attack mode, you've got four-wheel drive, you've got 350 kilowatts instead of 300 kilowatts.
00:15:02So it's very easy to overtake, but no one wants to be at the front right now.
00:15:05What they're doing is they're saving their energy and compounding it to use at the future.
00:15:09So by saving now, they get to spend more per lap as the race goes on.
00:15:12Every lap that ticks off, you've got more energy per lap.
00:15:15We're going to see in a moment there's going to be a go point where the guys start picking up the pace a lot.
00:15:21Okay, we can make Buemi and try to stick with Barnard.
00:15:24Buemi's got a bit less shock than you. Let's try to do it efficiently.
00:15:29So speaking of Buemi, there is the first attack mode deployment.
00:15:31Buemi goes into it now. He's got four-wheel drive, an extra 50 kilowatts of power,
00:15:35and he's able to easily outpace Van Dorn down into turn six.
00:15:39And interestingly, he's taken the two-minute option for the first one.
00:15:42That should be enough to cycle him through into the top three and give him a nice comfortable zone.
00:15:47And then he's got six minutes to take later on in the race.
00:15:51So coming down this back straight, this should be easy pickings again against Taylor Barnard and possibly Nick de Vries looking on the inside there.
00:15:56The two Mahindras now lining a stern, or were lining a stern, until Buemi's just managed to split the two of them coming through turn eight and turn nine.
00:16:04Again, another opportunity presents itself here.
00:16:07Obviously, you've got Robin Freint just directly in front of him. You should imagine that should be nice and easy for him to get past.
00:16:12Yeah, he should just be able to breeze past. I mean, he's his teammate, so he's got a huge advantage for the extra 50 kilowatts.
00:16:19So there you go. He's up to P3.
00:16:21Nicely done. Oh, someone's off onto the grass.
00:16:24And that looks like Adias Penske. Unfortunately, yeah, Vern, that's not the first time that he has had a moment going off the track this weekend.
00:16:33Yeah, picked the straightest route possible and manages to come back onto the circuit without too much harm.
00:16:37But you can see the damage that he's done because he's right now down at the back of the field and Jay Penske there.
00:16:43Well, I'm glad he's got his shades on because I'm sure we'd be seeing a few grimaces underneath them otherwise.
00:16:49Yeah, that looked like he just got pushed off in a very fast area, probably running side by side.
00:16:53Nowhere for him to go. As soon as he touched the grass, he just had to go straight. Smart decision from Jeff, I have to say to straight line it.
00:16:59We see another attack mode. Van Dorn into attack mode then just emerges in front of Lucas Degrassi.
00:17:04Look at how close it is. The racing line converges naturally onto the exit of that attack mode here.
00:17:10And you can see just how tight it was between the two as we look there at Barnard on the inside of the Mahindra of Edo Mortara.
00:17:16Dust being kicked up as we come out of turn six. Let's have a look and see what happened here to John Eric Verne.
00:17:21So did he have a bit of contact there with the apt Lola Yamaha?
00:17:25With Degrassi, possibly, yes.
00:17:27So that's not good at all there for Verne. Hopefully, he's not picked up any damage.
00:17:31It looked like his front wing's fairly intact. Now, let's have a look.
00:17:33So Degrassi on the outside then here through into 12. Oh, just over the curve.
00:17:39He's just lost it. He's bottomed out on the bump and lost the rear of the car.
00:17:42He was coming out that curve from a different angle to usual because he wasn't able to open up the corner.
00:17:46So that looks like it just caught him out there, John Eric Verne.
00:17:49Well, lucky that he's managed to emerge from that unscathed.
00:17:52And likewise Lucas Degrassi not getting caught up in another driver's incident.
00:17:55So 10 out of 26 were on. The pace now again settling down, as it were,
00:18:00but some drivers having used the first attack mode deployment.
00:18:03Buemi's used his first one. He's now come to the end of that one.
00:18:06Van Dorn's got just under a minute remaining then here,
00:18:09and let's see how much that is going to benefit him.
00:18:11He's past Taylor Barnard, coming down the start finish straight,
00:18:13now behind the two envisions of Buemi and Fright down into T1.
00:18:19What I love about this phase of a Formula E race is, you know,
00:18:21it's very easy as a driver to stay calm those first few laps when you know that you're saving energy.
00:18:25But as the race heats up, you start wanting to be at the front.
00:18:27You start jostling for position. We're seeing everyone now.
00:18:30They really want to be in the top five, top three even.
00:18:33Everyone taking attack mode, and yeah, very interesting part of the race right now.
00:18:37So De Vries in the Mahindra going for his first attack mode deployment,
00:18:39but he's done the reverse of what we saw from Buemi and Van Dorn.
00:18:42He's gone for four minutes first off.
00:18:44Yeah, you'd expect with four minutes of attack mode,
00:18:46he should be able to navigate his way almost through to first place from there.
00:18:50So he's gone for a bit more of a different strategy of using more of his attack mode earlier
00:18:54to get himself in the right position,
00:18:56but it means he might be vulnerable later in the race.
00:18:59Down the back straight we go in towards turn eight.
00:19:01He's on the inside here of Taylor Barnard.
00:19:03Also Sam Bird looking to make a move for ninth place on Jake Dennis.
00:19:08De Vries with that four-wheel drive traction and of course 50 kilowatts more power
00:19:12should make easy pickings of those in front of him at the moment.
00:19:16Dennis there now still side by side, a bit of contact there almost
00:19:19with Taylor Barnard through into that chicane.
00:19:23Sam Bird moving up the order into P9 now.
00:19:25He's definitely used that energy that he saved early part of the race,
00:19:28moving forwards from 14th to 9th, slowly making his ascension through the field.
00:19:33If we're looking at the likes of Nick Cassidy and Mitch Evans here, James,
00:19:35they're still down in 13th and 15th place.
00:19:37They were the quickest cars pretty much yesterday in practice.
00:19:41Is that cause for concern being this far down at this stage of the race?
00:19:44Until we see the energy numbers, we just won't know.
00:19:46Maybe they've been saving a lot of energy.
00:19:49Currently P10, doing a great job mate, but that's key, being good on energy.
00:19:53Let's be good on energy.
00:19:54And that's where the experience of Sam Bird comes in.
00:19:58He's one of five drivers who have raced in Miami in Formula E before,
00:20:01back in 2015.
00:20:03Different venue, very different cars compared to what we have now.
00:20:06But, well, there is no adage for experience for Sam Bird,
00:20:09and it's proving to really be beneficial.
00:20:11The two Neon McLarens in 8th and 9th place respectively.
00:20:14Let's see what happens down into the chicane then.
00:20:17So this is him with Jake Dennis.
00:20:21Side by side, that's Taylor.
00:20:22No, it is in Blackbird, I beg your pardon.
00:20:24It was a bit of wheelbanging here, I'm pretty sure.
00:20:26It was only minimal, but pretty sure, yeah, just there,
00:20:29they clipped wheels with each other.
00:20:31Hopefully that won't have done any damage to the car.
00:20:33But, yeah, it's not an efficient way to go through that chicane, is it?
00:20:37No, and he was very lucky to be on the inside
00:20:39where we saw Jean-Erik hit that bump and make that mistake.
00:20:41Sam got away with it.
00:20:43Two vision side by side, and now the freaks go back through into the lead.
00:20:47So he, of course, is in the attack mode, he's got like four-minute deployment, as we know.
00:20:50Just under two minutes remaining for Nick de Vries.
00:20:54Will he try and make a gap?
00:20:55We've seen this before at this year where some of the drivers, they get to the front,
00:20:58then they try and make a gap because then the others have to expand energy
00:21:01and really try to catch up quickly so that they can gain the efficiency of the slipstream.
00:21:05Yeah, he's kind of not really got much of an option to do that,
00:21:08because he's got one and a half minutes still of attack mode to use.
00:21:11So if he just sat there at the same pace as the others, it would be a bit of a waste.
00:21:15Yeah, exactly, but you're right.
00:21:16He needs to make a bit of a gap.
00:21:17You see some of the others getting feisty there.
00:21:19Antonio Felix da Costa diving down the inside of Stoffel van Doorn.
00:21:22Yeah, nice move there for da Costa, so up through and into third place
00:21:26ahead of the Maserati MSG machine.
00:21:29Look at the efficiency, though, of that Porsche powertrain.
00:21:31He's got a good few percent more compared to de Vries than Nato.
00:21:34It doesn't sound like a lot, but it means an absolutely huge amount in Formula E terms.
00:21:38That's amazing for da Costa to have that much energy, three percent more than de Vries.
00:21:43Da Costa is looking very strong at this point in the race, very, very strong indeed,
00:21:47because he can use that extra energy, spread out over the laps,
00:21:50or just save it until the end of the race, stick with everybody, and then unleash it.
00:21:54Also looking at Sam Bird, he's actually on very similar energy,
00:21:57and so he's done a good job of progressing up the field and being energy efficient.
00:22:01And we see John Eric Verne having another moment in the scheme and making contact
00:22:05before the Andretti's there.
00:22:06Yeah, that was Nico Muller that he just had a bit of a sideswipe there with.
00:22:09So he got too deep on the brakes, nearly plummeted into the back of Mitch Evans,
00:22:13and then compromised Nico Muller and also, to an extent, Oli Rowland.
00:22:18Yeah, that's a bit of the Konstantina effect where, you know, when you're just out of action.
00:22:22Oh, I thought that was going to kick off then.
00:22:25Sam Bird, sorry, Sopho van Doola, beg your pardon, getting in some strife.
00:22:28It's really interesting to see that the people that are making the overtakes up the inside
00:22:32into that chicane. They can compromise the other driver quite a lot.
00:22:35So you can be quite tactical, I think, with where you're overtaking on the circuit.
00:22:39That seems to be a spot where, if you get stuck on the outside,
00:22:42you have to really kill your minimum speed and your efficiency for that lap is out the window.
00:22:46Don't forget to vote for your PIF driver of the race in this one as well.
00:22:49Scan the QR code on the left-hand side of your screen.
00:22:52Down the start-finish straight we go. Muller trying to ascend through the field.
00:22:56Likewise, Edo Mortara as well. His teammate Nick Lefri still leads at the start of lap 14.
00:23:02Lap time starting to come down a little bit for those who are in attack mode.
00:23:07Ah, problems for David Beckmann. That's a huge shame for him in the Cupra Kiro,
00:23:11given that he got into the duels for the first time in his Formula E career.
00:23:15Which tyre? I think right tyre, I'm not sure.
00:23:19I think suspension damage, ma'am.
00:23:22Doubly disappointed for him. He's in attack mode and, of course,
00:23:24he's not going to be able to use that now. It's all a bit immaterial unless he gets
00:23:27a late race safety car coming to his aid.
00:23:29Meanwhile, at the front, it's starting to get a little bit more aggressive now, here.
00:23:34Yes, shaping up very nicely today. Antonio Filipe da Costa is looking strong.
00:23:37Wow, three wide, four wide. Yeah, Nico Muller on the inside,
00:23:41da Costa on the outside. Are they able to make it through facing in the right direction?
00:23:45Keep an eye out for Norman Nato. He's on the outside there in the Nissan
00:23:48against the Mahindra, and Mortara's ready to try and join in on the party as well as Sam Bird.
00:23:53And Robin Freit's Bird's trying to pick off two for the price of one down into the chicane,
00:23:57but he can't quite make it stick through there. We've got a great seat in the house here on board
00:24:02with Robin Freit, and it's now Nico Muller coming to the end of his first attack mode deployment
00:24:06that leads in the Andretti.
00:24:09Now, if I'm Antonio Filipe da Costa at this point in the race,
00:24:12I'd be thinking about how do I get in front and make a break. He's got three percent more energy
00:24:17than those around him. He can save that energy, use it in his attack mode, try to make a gap. He's the
00:24:23only one that can do it, I think, and take command of this race.
00:24:25Would you use six minutes as your first hit if you were Antonio Filipe da Costa?
00:24:29It's a tough one, tough one, because if there's a safety car, you're really compromising your race then.
00:24:34Kind of so close there between Mortara and Natto down into the first corner, especially with the bump on the exit there.
00:24:40You can see Verline looking on the inside, but getting boxed in a little bit with the McLaren and the Jaguar of Bird and Evans.
00:24:47Verline in attack mode with that four-wheel drive deployment. Oh, that's a bit of a messy rejoin there for Robin Freit.
00:24:53He's getting caught up right in the pack now here as well, and you don't know which way to look.
00:24:56Blink and you'll miss it sort of stuff as we head down into turn six.
00:25:00Da Costa it is that now leads, so is his strategy going to be to try and build a bit of a gap, get into that attack mode and try and pull away from the rest of the field?
00:25:08Yeah, he won't get in attack mode this lap because he hasn't gone through it, so for this lap he's leading without attack mode, as we saw a lot of drivers kicking up the dust there through turn seven.
00:25:16Verline looking on the inside, nearly three abreast, down into turn eight.
00:25:20Muller still side by side here with Norman Natto. We're right on board with Pascal Verline, who's going to try and pick the pocket of one, maybe two drivers through nine.
00:25:27Into turns ten and eleven. Verline's up through and into third place.
00:25:31Degrassi's getting aggressive there also against Nick de Vries, but nothing doing for him.
00:25:36But Da Costa it is that leads then. Mortara in second, Verline in third. This is working quite nicely for Porsche here at this point.
00:25:42They're trying to bring both cars to the forefront of this race, and it's working out quite well so far.
00:25:47Yeah, Pascal can get into second place, acts as a bit of a rear gunner for Antonio. Not only will he benefit on the efficiency and be able to regain some of the energy that he's used to get up to the front of the field, but it also gives Antonio a lot of support and gives Porsche a very strong position.
00:26:02Down into the first corner. It is now the two Tag Boyer Porsches that lead Da Costa ahead of Verline, Mortara, Natto, etc.
00:26:10The only drivers in the top five that haven't done their attack mode appointments include the likes of Da Costa, Mortara and Natto.
00:26:15You might see Da Costa now if... Yes. I think he had to do that. He had to push for it because he can now follow Pascal.
00:26:22Yeah, and he's come out ahead, Bruce Lee, there at Mortara, so that's worked out really nicely for Da Costa. Good team tactics from Tag Boyer Porsche.
00:26:28He only used two minutes of his attack mode there, so I think, again, that's clever strategy because Pascal's got just under a minute ahead of him, so it means they can almost push on together.
00:26:37Da Costa can be efficient and still have a lot left later in the race.
00:26:41What about Edo Mortara? He's still got his two attack mode deployments remaining. His teammate Nick de Vries isn't too far down the road.
00:26:47I wonder if De Vries can cycle his way up through there, but we might see Mortara getting involved in the action.
00:26:52De Grassi, meanwhile, on the inside of Edo Mortara into Turn 8. De Grassi, of course, is in attack mode. He's got four-wheel drive, he's got 50 kilowatts of power,
00:27:00and now he's got third place from Robin Frights.
00:27:02A great performance from Lola, Jan and our team here up to the top three. I mean, I did not expect De Grassi to be here this day.
00:27:10What a shame for David Beckman. His race comes to an early conclusion.
00:27:14Puncher for him by the sounds of things, and clearly some more technical issues for the German driver in the Cupra Kiro.
00:27:20Disappointing given the pace of that car this weekend that we've seen Tickton, his teammates, also having a bit of a shocker down in 21st.
00:27:26Now, will we see the Porsches try to pull away? I think if Antonio takes the lead and Pascal can stay with him,
00:27:32I think the two of them can work together. I think Lucas has figured this one out and realized he needs to go together with them
00:27:38and try to slipstream the pair of them and bring himself home a podium.
00:27:41Well, you wonder what's going to be going through Thomas Beermeyer's mind at the moment.
00:27:44The apt team know how to win races and win championships, they've done that for a good number of years,
00:27:49but now in their current guise as Lola Yamaha are out there yet to take a victory or indeed a podium.
00:27:55Side-by-side action there between Bird and Muller going through into turn four.
00:27:59Mortara and Natto have gone in for their first attack mode deployments as well.
00:28:03Also, what's happened to Nick de Vries? He's down in 21st place, so something's gone awry there for the Dutch driver.
00:28:09I think he might have come to a stop because we've got a yellow flag out down at turn three
00:28:13and that is a huge shame there for the Dutchman if that's the way his race is going to come to an end.
00:28:18Crucially, if he has come to a stop, can he get going? If he can't, is the car in a dangerous place?
00:28:23Could we see a safety car being thrown here? Which could scupper all of these drivers who are currently active in attack mode?
00:28:29Ah, he's off the track and by a marshal, so hopefully it's not cause for a safety car for the rest of these drivers.
00:28:36It depends if the car is in a safe condition or not. With Formula E cars we have a system, a light system,
00:28:42to show if the battery is safe or not. If it's unsafe. Safety cars deployed, sorry James, to come in front of you.
00:28:47There you go, if it's unsafe they will deploy a safety car, so yes.
00:28:50That has played into the hands of some of them. I think Antonio Felix da Costa especially,
00:28:55because he has a lot of energy in his pocket, he's in the lead of the race.
00:28:59But the likes of Mortara, Natto, Cassidy, Maloney and Dennis, they're all going to be disappointed
00:29:05because of course they are in attack mode at the moment and they've got the opportunity to use it.
00:29:10And Nick's done a full system reset, so what he would have done is turn the car completely off,
00:29:14reset the car, now it's come back to life and he's back on his way.
00:29:18So, yeah, the safety car was only needed for a brief moment there.
00:29:22Well, it's like false dawn and it should only mean the safety car is presumably going to be out for just this lap.
00:29:27The lights will go off and then we'll get back underway. You can see the Live Points Championship.
00:29:31Oliver Olin, by the way, led by 17 points coming into this one. If it finished as it was now,
00:29:35he'd have a four-point advantage heading into Monaco in a few weeks' time.
00:29:39So that lead will be dwindled down quite considerably.
00:29:42Yeah, it's definitely not been his weekend. He's not really at any point in the weekend.
00:29:47Practices, qualifying and now in the way it's ever looked like the sort of form we saw from here in Jeddah.
00:29:52So it's been a real turn of form. Those eight weeks has not worked out for him in the Nissan team.
00:29:56as we see a replay of Nick de Vries running on at turn three there and having to completely reset his car.
00:30:02So a frustrating moment because Nick did a solid job in qualifying and has been, you know,
00:30:07picking up some momentum along with that Mahindra team there.
00:30:09Yeah, there's a very strange thing to happen where you've just pulled off and I wonder what actually has gone on there.
00:30:16We can see what it meant for Tomasso Volpe and the frustration on his face.
00:30:19Confirmation of the safety car does come in at the end of lap 18.
00:30:23So just a brief safety car then. Either way, it's scuppered the race of a few drivers,
00:30:27including Nick de Vries, who's right down the order.
00:30:29There's only one driver that's still got two attack mode deployments.
00:30:32In fact, two drivers who've got two attack mode deployments remaining.
00:30:34And that is Oliver Rowland and Dan Tictum.
00:30:36Now the field's all bunched up here, James. Can they use that to their advantage?
00:30:39Well, believe it or not, Dan Tictum has been at the back of the grid saving a huge amount of energy.
00:30:43So this could actually play to his advantage. If he can stay quite close when they start the race again
00:30:48and he can take his attack modes, he could drive quite a way into the top ten.
00:30:53So eight laps it will be to go at the end of this one. Disappointment there for Dennis especially
00:30:58because he cycled right back when he took his attack mode down into 17th place.
00:31:02And of course, he's still in that now. I suppose the advantage is if this race gets going,
00:31:05and they are now beginning to pull the pin, he will have at least probably about 30, maybe 40 seconds left
00:31:10by the time this race starts to use that, Billy.
00:31:12Yeah, I mean, that's not a lot of time considering, you know, the minimum you can take is two minutes.
00:31:17You're talking about having 25% of the time available to then go and deploy.
00:31:22So, yeah, he'll be disappointed, Jake Dennis, because he was running sort of quite consistently in that top ten
00:31:27and just being really good with saving his energy. As we see now, definitely looks like the pace is picked up there
00:31:33on this restart. They're pushing fairly hard there in turn one.
00:31:36Okay, full focus on restart and hold position.
00:31:41Well, they're used to rolling starts in this part of the world, and that was textbook from Da Costa and Verlijn.
00:31:46But look at Verlijn's energy relative to Da Costa, 4% less. That's an absolute age.
00:31:51Yeah, but that was a nice message from Porsche there where they said hold position.
00:31:55So, Antonio knows he's not under any threat from Pascal. Pascal needs to follow Antonio to recover some of that energy deficit.
00:32:02Looking further down the order, Roland and Tictum have got the most amount of energy.
00:32:06Like you mentioned, James, they've been saving. They've got a good few percent over the cars in front,
00:32:10although Da Costa is looking super strong with his energy.
00:32:14Roland and Tictum have gone in for their first time over the course. They needed to do that.
00:32:17They've got to make that ground while the field is as bunched up as it is.
00:32:20Fright's on the inside here of Degrassi into turn eight.
00:32:24Move done, and third position secured for the Dutchman then.
00:32:28Clue into the chicane we go, and you can see the pace is now going to, surely it's going to start to kick up here.
00:32:34So we're well past the note, so let's focus on Goodlaps.
00:32:39So focus on Goodlaps there for Da Costa. Can we see the two tagline Porsches working together?
00:32:43We saw that in Monaco last year with the two Jaguars.
00:32:46They pulled a blinder with the strategy by using the rear gunner effectively to compromise everybody or slow the rest of the pack up.
00:32:54The thing is, that's easy on a street circuit like Monaco.
00:32:56Here, it's as wide as a football pitch in some places. It's not the opportunity to keep all those cars but bay.
00:33:01No, but with the energy they've got per lap now, the newt, from what I understand, is actually the no overtaking point.
00:33:07Where the pace is so fast it becomes much more difficult to overtake.
00:33:10And that's where, if you saved your energy early and you didn't deploy it and you didn't cycle yourself through to the front,
00:33:16you're going to pay the penalty because it's going to become way more difficult to overtake.
00:33:19So into attack mode then for the final time goes the Tag Heuer Porsche of Da Costa. Did he make that or not?
00:33:26Yes.
00:33:27Yeah, he had to come up on the graphic there, but he has gone into the attack mode then for Da Costa and immediately gets himself in front of teammate Pascal Verline.
00:33:36So nicely done there for Da Costa.
00:33:38I think we're going to see Da Costa run away these last six laps. I think he's going to put quite a gap to the rest of the field.
00:33:44I'd watch out for Oli Rowland. He's still got another attack mode to use after the one he's using right now.
00:33:49And he is setting the fastest lap times. He took just over a second out of the leaders on the last lap.
00:33:55Yeah, I think it's going to be very difficult for him to use that energy advantage to overtake a lot of cars, but he should be able to get comfortably inside the top ten.
00:34:02Paces now beginning to pick up, isn't it? We were 1.29.8 last time around with that rolling start, but look at that gap.
00:34:07A big crash in the background of the chicane.
00:34:09Yeah, down at the chicane. We've got Jake Hughes in some problems there as well with Max Gunther.
00:34:13And that could be a safety car and it is three cars involved as a matter of fact because Mitch Evans is also involved in the Meijer.
00:34:19And that is a disaster for Porsche, a disaster for Da Costa because he's got five minutes of attack mode that he's just gone for.
00:34:24And unfortunately for him, he's not going to be able to use it if that incident takes a long time to clear.
00:34:29And look at the car that's on top in the middle there, Taylor Barnard that is, the rookie that's had such a strong start to the season is down there.
00:34:36Let's have a look then. So we've got Jake Hughes in there, Max Gunther, and Mitch Evans all coming into strife at the chicane.
00:34:44We've been talking about it all day as a point of interest and so it proves to be with six laps remaining in this race.
00:34:51The safety car is deployed. And there we see the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT car leading round what will be, I imagine, a very disgruntled Antonio Felix da Costa.
00:35:00Four and a half minutes of attack mode remaining and no opportunity to use it at this point.
00:35:05Yeah, that was a false alarm from me that wasn't Taylor Barnard.
00:35:08But nightmare situation for Antonio there. That's a worst case scenario.
00:35:12Let's have a look what happened then here. So it's further back in the pack. You can see Jake Hughes.
00:35:16Ah, so he had contact there with Gunther. Evans with nowhere to go. Three into one. Definitely doesn't mix.
00:35:22Let's have a look. We've got a red flag actually. So that could be a benefit for some. Let's have a look at this though.
00:35:28So Hughes gets punted by Gunther. Into the wall he goes. Gunther's got nowhere to go. Straight over the back of the Maserati.
00:35:35And then Evans joins them in sympathy as well. Well, that is a shame for those three drivers to end their race in such dramatic circumstances.
00:35:44The red flag is thrown with six laps which will, I'm sure, become five remaining for this one. Cars will come into the pit lane, we're understanding, as well.
00:35:54Should be a relatively short red flag we're hearing, just to clear the debris on the circuit and make sure that the cars and the drivers are all safe and off the circuit.
00:36:04But unfortunately there's a very second-hand looking Maserati for Jake Hughes.
00:36:07Another thing to note here is the attack mode. There's still drivers out there that haven't used both their attack modes.
00:36:12And we're getting down towards the end of the race. We're running out of laps. So they have to make sure they use it before the end of the E3.
00:36:18The other thing to bear in mind is that if they have more energy and it becomes an even faster pace, the guys in the attack mode are going to have a huge advantage over someone like DaCosta,
00:36:28who's done such a brilliant job in this entire race and had five minutes of his attack mode just wiped off from this red flag.
00:36:35Yeah, it's a disaster for DaCosta, no doubt about it. Gunther managed to get going again then.
00:36:41Okay, I can drive again. I'm driving again.
00:36:47Okay, how is the car? Do you think you can continue?
00:36:49Yeah, I can continue. Suspension is okay.
00:36:53Okay, copy, so let's go. Yeah, we need to come to the box. 50 kph, remember.
00:36:58So he's back in the pits, but according to our timing screen, he's still on the lead lap.
00:37:02I mean, he's going to be right down the order, but depending on what we do for the start, he might not be out of this, Gunther.
00:37:11It's just a slight kiss there with Gunther, wasn't it? And it just sent him wide into the wall, Jake Hughes.
00:37:19Let's have another look. Not quite sure on this one whether Jake, if it pitched Max Gunther on the apex there of the chicane at 10 or 11,
00:37:26or whether Max just ran a bit deep into Jake. It was a bit of a tricky one to call that.
00:37:30Yeah, difficult to see from that perspective who maybe was slightly more at fault, who could have just been a racing incident.
00:37:36So, Gunther and Evans also with that attack mode ticking down at the moment.
00:37:40You'll notice the clock for the attack mode doesn't stop even though the red flag is out. Evans?
00:37:45Now, the interesting thing is these cars have come in. They were obviously involved in incident.
00:37:49They've come in one lap earlier, so all the other cars have followed the safety car to do one laps, spending energy.
00:37:56So there's going to have to be an energy offset for those cars because otherwise they're going to rejoin.
00:38:00Either they're going to rejoin one lap down or they're going to have to have some energy change.
00:38:06James, you've been in positions like this as a team principal. How do you manage it with your team, with your drivers?
00:38:11I know it's circumstantial depending on what's going on in the race for you, but, you know,
00:38:14how do you make sure that everyone's ready to go again and extract the maximum weight of what they've got left?
00:38:19Yeah, I think the difficulty is you need to understand what's going to happen now with the energy per lap.
00:38:25Is there damage on the car? Do you know what damage there is on the car?
00:38:29Ah, probably front wing. Okay, the suspension. I don't know, but some attention on. I think the suspension's fine.
00:38:40I mean, for Mitch Evans, you've got to go out there and give it a go, haven't you? You've got nothing to lose, really, at this point.
00:38:44Yeah, especially where the championship lays. If you can pick up even a few points, that can be crucial at the end of the season.
00:38:49We saw how tight it was at times last season.
00:38:52Well, given the fact that we're going to see a four-lap sprint to the finish, you know, there's going to be plenty of action
00:38:57and plenty of things to capitalize on if you are out there.
00:39:00Well, there's a good possibility we're going to see drivers going into attack mode pretty much straightaway.
00:39:04As soon as the lights go out, some of them will have to because of what they've got remaining.
00:39:07We're going to get a better perspective now of the incident.
00:39:09I wonder if he had a bit of head and shoulder there with the Envision as well.
00:39:13Nowhere for Gunter to go there. It just seems like a bit of a racing incident.
00:39:18It might take a little bit longer, but we will do our best to restart the race as soon as possible. Thank you very much.
00:39:27So Marek Hanachewski, race director there, just talking to the teams about the incident, presumably.
00:39:34And you can see that Formula E cars do have reverse. Oh, and that's even worse for Mitch Evans.
00:39:40He gets clattered for a second time by Gunter, who forgets mirror signal maneuver, trying to get out of the incident.
00:39:47Just making sure that Mitch is going to have to replace his front wing as well.
00:39:50Goodness me. Well, thankfully, all have emerged from that one. Okay.
00:39:55So, Da Costa then down in pit lane.
00:40:02When you're in this position here, James, of course, he's lost his attack mode in the final stage of this one.
00:40:08He's in the lead of the race. But look, I mean, you've got five cars behind him.
00:40:10They've still got that one deployment remaining. Is it now game over for Da Costa for the victory?
00:40:15He's got such an energy advantage. He still has a chance in this race.
00:40:21The problem he's going to face is all those guys without attack mode are just going to be able to accelerate off the corner so much faster than he will be able to.
00:40:29Five-second time penalty for Nick Cassidy. He picked up a warning earlier on in the race for track limits, and the stewards have awarded him that.
00:40:36I mean, given the fact we're going to have a four-lap sprint to the finish, I know there will be attack modes to deploy in that one.
00:40:41But again, it just goes from bad to worse for Nick at the moment.
00:40:43Yeah, that's absolutely brutal, because five seconds in a four-lap shootout, like you mentioned, it just means the field's going to be so bunched up, it's going to cost him so many positions.
00:40:52I feel like if he fell into a barrel of shoes, he'd still come out wearing socks at the moment, Nick Cassidy. You just can't buy luck at all, can he?
00:40:57Well, a shame for him, then, he's currently in sixth position at the moment, and you can see the remaining attack mode deployments for some of the drivers.
00:41:05So Werlein's got four minutes, Freintz, Natto, Bird, etc. have all got four minutes, six minutes, rather.
00:41:11Cassidy's got four minutes, but we know he's sort of out of it because he's got that five-second time penalty as well.
00:41:16What we really need to see here is the energy remaining. If we see that as well, and you combine that information with the attack mode left,
00:41:24that'll give us a much better picture of how the race is going to unfold.
00:41:28Just heard that Jake Hughes has said he's okay on team ready. He's one of the drivers who's not made it back into the pit lane at the moment,
00:41:34but he says he's okay, which is good news there for the British driver.
00:41:38Unfortunately, it will be an early conclusion to his race.
00:41:43So here, then, is Mitch Evans. Let's see what he's going to be able to do from 20th on the grid for this one, with no attack mode deployments remaining.
00:41:52And Lucas Degrassi, is he in a good position? Well, he's 14th at the moment, and he has still got an attack mode left of this one.
00:42:03A couple of drivers in front of him have all used two of them, including Sebastian Buemi as well as Jean-Erik Bird.
00:42:10So they've got no attack mode remaining either.
00:42:12Ah, here we go. We've got the percentages now. So the people that are looking strong, Da Costa, Bird, Roland, all with 29%.
00:42:20Think they're the ones that are going to end up at the front here. Still a huge chance for Norman Nato as well.
00:42:26He doesn't seem to be that far off. But Nato and Bird, with six minutes of attack mode left, could quite easily win this race.
00:42:34So we're just looking at the starting order which is coming up on our timing screen after the red flag.
00:42:38So this is counted back a little bit. So what will happen here is we'll have the two Tag Hoia Porsches on the front row of the grid.
00:42:44Then it'll be Edo Mortara in third place, Robin Freintz in fourth, Lucas Degrassi will line up P5.
00:42:49So he's really benefited from that because he's 14th according to our timing screen coming into this one.
00:42:54So nice job there for him.
00:42:56Norman Nato in sixth position ahead of Sandberg, Nick Cassidy, Johnny Verne and Nico Muller.
00:43:03That will be completely top 10 as it stands for now.
00:43:07Oh goodness me, this is going to be a frantic conclusion to this race. It essentially means that some drivers are going to be really up against it.
00:43:16I mean, if you're fourth down to seventh, you've got to go for that attack, especially those who've got six minutes remaining, James.
00:43:21Because, I mean, four laps, it's going to be touch and go.
00:43:24Now you could have laps added on. So laps behind the safety car you could have added on.
00:43:29But this was a red flag. So I think that is going to be an almost flat out sprint to the finish.
00:43:35So those with the attack mode will have a huge advantage.
00:43:39And I definitely think that Sam Bird could be in a very strong position here.
00:43:45Yeah, let's see what Sandberg can do then from seventh position on the grid.
00:43:50Nick Cassidy will line up directly behind him. You can see the timing tower now reflecting the order in which the cars will line up.
00:43:57So if Gunter and Evans are able to get back into this race, and there's nothing to say that they can't in the regulations,
00:44:01despite the fact they've not got these attack modes remaining and six other cars in front of them have,
00:44:06they could still try and pick up some points. You never know what might happen in front of it. Formula E is nothing if not unpredictable.
00:44:17Confirmation that all the drivers are OK following that incident as well. Jake Hughes now retired and he'll be back in the pit lane and debriefing.
00:44:24What had been a challenging weekend, I think it's fair to say, for the Britons.
00:44:28Didn't particularly do anything in terms of qualifying, and unfortunately in the race he's in some strife as well.
00:44:34So we've got to pick this all apart. Let's go down to Alexa, who's catching up with team principal for Jaguar TCS Racing, Nick Cassidy.
00:44:40Mitch Evans we saw involved in that incident. He's going to be down at the back of the grid.
00:44:44Nick Cassidy up into eighth place with one attack mode remaining.
00:44:47Thank you, Tom. Yeah, I'm joined by James now. And James, what can you do from here with Mitch's car?
00:44:54What was the extent of the damage and what's the game plan?
00:44:56Yeah, so damage just looks like front wing, but unfortunately that really hurt us because Mitch had his six-minute attack mode.
00:45:02That was our moment to kind of make progress. So, yeah, unfortunately the contact with the cars in front was just a case of wrong place, wrong time.
00:45:08So that's sometimes how it rolls with these Peloton Star races, you know. It's very frustrating.
00:45:12You've done all the work and you're teeing yourself up for that last phase of the race.
00:45:16But yeah, so we'll try and recover. Some people will probably get penalties now because they won't take their full six-minute attack mode most likely.
00:45:22So I imagine some cars will cycle back down the order when they take their penalties.
00:45:26And an unfortunate five-second penalty for Nick Cassidy as well. What can you tell us about that and how can you negate the impact of it?
00:45:31Yeah, honestly, we need to look at it because Nick's trying to stay on the track limits and he had his warnings.
00:45:37We were communicating with him and he was trying to do that. So for some reason, yeah, we need to understand where the stewards believe he's going wrong.
00:45:45But as far as he was concerned, he thought he was in the limits. So we need to take that away and understand it.
00:45:49Still, you know, like I said, some cars around us have six minutes of attack. He has four.
00:45:54So it might neutralize itself out with the penalty and those around us taking, but probably doesn't allow us to move forward too much, which is, again, frustrating.
00:46:01But we will take it away and hopefully get some points here at the end. But it's going to be a crazy last few laps.
00:46:06Okay, James. We'll let you get back to it.
00:46:08Yeah, cheers, James. Cheers to Alexa. We've just been doing some mental arithmetic in the commentary box.
00:46:13Not my strong point, I'd like to add. But the general consensus is those who've got six minutes of attack mode, they've got to do that straight away.
00:46:18And given that this is going to be a flat out sprint to the finish, there's a good probability that we could see some drivers having to slow purposely at the end of the race in order to fulfill that attack mode deployment.
00:46:31So inside the sporting regulations of the championship, you must use all of your attack mode allotment.
00:46:36Now, we see that some of these guys used the two minutes earlier, and they've got six minutes left.
00:46:41We were saying that Antonio Feliz de Costa was compromised because he didn't get to use it.
00:46:46But now with four-lap sprint race, it's going to be very difficult for some of those guys with six minutes to actually use a whole six minutes,
00:46:52because you can't activate it until the activation zone. And then you'll have three and a half laps to burn it all.
00:46:58It's going to be very tight for them to use it, and it's going to create a very exciting race for us in these final four laps.
00:47:03Well, I said at the start of the race, with time for Magic in Miami, it's time for mayhem in Miami, given what the last four laps of this race are going to look like.
00:47:10One big advantage here for Lucas de Grasse is, if it is flat out, he has a great opportunity to score a lot of points for Lola Yamaha Abt,
00:47:19which they desperately need and they deserve from their performance so far this weekend.
00:47:24So inside the Envision garage of Silvan Felipe there, the team principal at the moment,
00:47:30and a serene amount of quietness falls on the Miami Homestead Speedway as we wait for the restart to get underway.
00:47:39And a lot of pressure on the shoulders of these drivers with a very fast start to this one.
00:47:45So what will happen is the drivers will go out onto the track once the race restart time is initiated.
00:47:51Then we will have them all lining up on the grid, we'll get five lights to come on and then we'll get the race back underway proper.
00:47:57And as we know, a lot of drivers still with attack mode deployments left and some with more than others,
00:48:02which could prove to be a big disadvantage in the remaining stages of this race.
00:48:07Well, Tommaso Volpe, we saw the frustration on his face and no surprise there at all given the position that his cars are in at the moment.
00:48:16I wonder if the frustration on his face was because he had worked out that it was going to be very challenging for them to spend the six minutes.
00:48:23And those guys that have got two activations left, you can forget using two because you're never going to use eight minutes in four laps.
00:48:30It doesn't take eight minutes to do four laps. So, yeah, there's definitely going to be some interesting strategies once this race resumes.
00:48:39Certainly will be. There is Fred Bertrand. Disappointment for Nick de Vries following that early conclusion to the race.
00:48:45Where is he going to be lining up on the grid? 18th position for Nick de Vries.
00:48:50Can't remember if he's got an attack mode deployment remaining. Hopefully we'll get the graphic come up on screen in a few moments and we'll just confirm who's got what.
00:48:57Well, there we go. Right on cue. So we can see that de Vries has got an attack mode, but Barnard, Maloney, Dennis, Tictum have all got one remaining as well.
00:49:05So de Vries only has four minutes because he used four minutes earlier, so he should be OK. It's the guys with six minutes or with two activations.
00:49:13We don't have any left with two activations. So the guy with six minutes, they're going to really struggle to make it to the finish.
00:49:19And also, Jake Dennis, it's great that you've got an attack mode deployment remaining. Again, I can't remember off the top of my head if it's four minutes or six minutes at the moment.
00:49:26Because additional info, you have around 2.65 kilowatt hours in your push lap, just from quality on 300. But we also need to keep an eye on the rolling average, OK?
00:49:38You need to be clever in the way where you can lift if possible.
00:49:42Two cars with one lap down, we will send these two cars for a lap and his issue is he cycle back.
00:49:50In a minute.
00:49:51Yeah, so Marika and Ochefsky, they're just giving an update to the teams about the restart time.
00:50:00So the rolling average that they mentioned, just to elaborate a little bit on that, you are limited on the amount of energy you can use on a rolling average over a four lap period.
00:50:11This is so that you can't go flat out the entire race and save the energy and do flat out laps.
00:50:16Anyway, it's not the fastest way to complete a race.
00:50:19But we are going to see some strategies of guys not being able to maximize the energy that they have left, I think, at the moment to get to the finish.
00:50:27So it's going to be a very, very high-paced race.
00:50:29There we go. So attack mode deployments, who is in the pound seats and who's going to be grimacing?
00:50:35Portia. Portia in the pound seats.
00:50:37Yeah, Robin Freint's not in the pound seats.
00:50:39Norman Nato, Sam Bird also in some bother here as well.
00:50:43Degrassi, Cassidy.
00:50:44I think Degrassi could get on the podium here.
00:50:46Yeah, I was just about to say Cassidy, but then I realized he's got a five-second time penalty, so that's kind of him out and done, isn't it?
00:50:50Degrassi having four minutes of attack mode, that's usable in the laps that we've got remaining.
00:50:54So I think if you've got four minutes or less, you can actually use that attack mode to your advantage.
00:50:59So, drivers now coming back into the fast lane, what they're going to do is just send a couple of cars out.
00:51:05So these are the guys that were involved in that incident that caused the red flag.
00:51:09They have to do a full lap and join on the back so that it's fair with their energy consumption
00:51:14because all the other cars did a lap behind the safety car when the red flag came out.
00:51:18So they're just going around to make sure they're on the lead lap and they've used the energy to get to the back.
00:51:23Now, they shouldn't be limited actually on using the energy in this lap because we know the race is going to be almost flat out of the finish.
00:51:28Speaking of the race, let's look at some highlights from the start of this one then.
00:51:31So you can see Nato it was that led the way from Jake Dennis in second position.
00:51:36They all managed to make it through the first corner. It's actually quite spread out right towards the back of the field.
00:51:39I think some of them down the order, Billy, were playing it quite safe.
00:51:43Yeah, 100% because they don't want to get bunched up and be inefficient with their energy in the first couple of corners.
00:51:48They'd rather be slow off the line, roll the minimum speed through the corners and then arrive at the back of the pack after the first lap, but with more energy in hand.
00:51:56Yeah, on board with the Nissan there as we saw again more positions exchanging and it was a bit of catamount really.
00:52:03Yuli, no after you, no really after you in the first stage of this one until the attack mode deployments started to take shape and the pace began to ramp up.
00:52:13We saw the two envisions close for company and sort of working together quite nicely.
00:52:17Then the two Tacoya Porsches also got friendly with one another as well.
00:52:21Unfortunately for John Rick Verne, he ended up going off the track down at turn 12 and mowing the grass here for the circuit.
00:52:28Thankfully, didn't cause himself too much drama. Very efficient on there.
00:52:33It certainly was. You can see there a bit of hip and shoulder between Sam Bird and Jake Dennis riding on board with them into turns 10 and 11.
00:52:42Confirmate contact there. It's been the real pinch point, hasn't it, around the circuit, 10 and 11.
00:52:47That's where obviously we've had the incident which has caused the red flag, but we've had a few moments running side by side.
00:52:53John Rick Verne again having a bit of a moment and then making contact with Nico Muller.
00:52:57So confirmation the race will restart at 3 p.m. local time. That's in about four minutes or so's time.
00:53:01This is the incident which brought out the red flag then. So Jake Hughes, contact with Max Gunther.
00:53:08Into the wall goes Hughes, into the back of Hughes goes Gunther, and then Mitch Evans also clattering into the back of the DS Penske.
00:53:18Not a happy ending to Jake Hughes' race, and we will see Gunther and Evans at the end of this one.
00:53:25They stand to profit actually quite well, I think, even though they've not got the attack mode deployments remaining.
00:53:30Look at the other drivers who do have attack mode deployments remaining in this one.
00:53:37So we're just having a look at the graphic on the screen there. Some of the drivers, it looked like Sam Bird, according to the graphic, had two attack mode deployments remaining.
00:53:45But we'll be restarting the race after the break in a few moments' time.
00:53:50So then, inside the box of the Envision team, and you can see the drivers now beginning to line themselves up.
00:54:02So what's going to happen here is Marek and Ochevski, the race director, is going to be calling them out all one by one,
00:54:07making sure that all the cars come out in the order in which they will line up on the grid.
00:54:12Yeah, Sam Bird, I think, could be in a little bit of a tricky situation to use both of his attack modes.
00:54:21So Marek and Ochevski there, race director, just talking to the drivers.
00:54:27Unfortunately, a bit of a technical issue, we can't hear that in the commentary box, so I do apologise about that.
00:54:31But we will endeavour to keep you as updated as we can.
00:54:36There's a lot of factors going on in this commentary box right now, isn't there?
00:54:39We're trying to judge attack mode, who's got most energy remaining.
00:54:43I think there was a graphical error a few moments ago, because Bird has actually still got six minutes of attack mode,
00:54:47not the full eight minutes, as the graphic suggested a few moments ago.
00:54:50So, yeah, you can see those who've got six minutes, the likes of Bird and the other drivers,
00:54:56they're going to be really struggling, as we said, because they've got to do that as soon as they possibly can.
00:55:01And there's a very distinct possibility, given what the flat-out nature of this race is going to be,
00:55:04that they're going to have to lift off before the end of this one just to make the chequered flag
00:55:08and complete all of their attack modes.
00:55:10Well, it's one minute thirty a lap. They've got three and a half laps.
00:55:15The math just doesn't add up. You're not going to be able to use your six minutes of allotted attack mode
00:55:21in that time frame. And if you don't use all of it, then you're going to get a sporting penalty.
00:55:26So it's going to be very interesting to see what those drivers do to try to manage that situation
00:55:30and what they've discussed with their engineers to try and come up with some sort of solution
00:55:34to this difficult problem that they find themselves in.
00:55:37Pascal Wehrlein, though, sitting in the pound seat, four minutes of his attack mode,
00:55:41he should be able to manage that.
00:55:43Certainly shall. There is Sebastian Buermi ready to head out onto the track here then in the Envision.
00:55:47We sit on board here with Pascal Wehrlein ready to go back into the race.
00:55:51So we're on lap twenty-two out of twenty-six then here at the Homestead Miami Speedway.
00:56:04And it is a restarted race, a sprint to the chequered flag here in the United States of America.
00:56:11The upshot is there are a few drivers with attack mode remaining, some with more than others,
00:56:15and there is going to be big drama to end this race
00:56:18because those who've still got six minutes of attack mode remaining, the math doesn't add up.
00:56:22They are going to have to lift off before the end of this one, including this man here, Sam Bird.
00:56:26Six minutes normally would be a very welcome blessing with the field as close together as they will be,
00:56:30but unfortunately he's not going to have enough time to use it going at full-out attack mode.
00:56:36If you're Antonio Felix da Costa here, James, you've got to go flat out, haven't you?
00:56:39You've got no other choice.
00:56:40No, he's in a great position, Antonio. Obviously he saved a lot of energy early on.
00:56:43He's driven an almost faultless race so far. He just lost out on his five minutes of attack mode,
00:56:48but he's got energy in the pocket and he's ready to go and try and win this race.
00:56:53So all the cars now lined up in pit lane.
00:56:55How do you manage to get yourself back in the zone after an interruption like that here, Billy?
00:57:00Because it's one thing, you know, getting all the adrenaline going,
00:57:04but then it stops and then you've got to build it all up again and refocus your mind.
00:57:07Yeah, they've obviously had been discussing with their engineers the plan for these last few laps,
00:57:12but yeah, from the driver's perspective, they will have an understanding of how the car behaves,
00:57:16but equally as much as energy is a big factor, the temperature of the tyres has changed dramatically.
00:57:22So cars now coming back out onto the track and they'll be led by the safety car.
00:57:36So more race direction communications going on between the drivers and Mario Kanachevsky there.
00:57:42As we wait for David Beckman just stuck at the back there.
00:57:46You can see our virtual race engineer confirming exactly what we said.
00:57:49If you've got six minutes of attack mode, you've got to take it immediately. You've got no other choice.
00:57:54No, you've got no other choice and you've only got five and a half minutes to use your six-minute allotment.
00:57:58So it's going to be interesting to see what happens over the course of these final four laps.
00:58:03So the safety car is out. What's going to happen then here is the safety car is going to peel in.
00:58:07We won't be getting a standing start. We'll be getting a rolling start here in this race,
00:58:10which we know they're pretty familiar with on this side of the pond.
00:58:13It's DaCosta that will lead them across the timing line.
00:58:16Pascal Wehrlein in second position with that one attack mode remaining.
00:58:19So he could be a very big threat compared to his teammate.
00:58:22Still very early stages of the season, so I can't imagine there's going to be any team orders ongoing between them.
00:58:27But if you've got those six minutes of attack mode, as we know, you're going to be really struggling to the end of this one here.
00:58:33Florian looking very calm there to say he looks like he knows what his strategy is for his two cars.
00:58:40Yeah, they have planned for this eventuality, I'm sure. Maybe not this exact one, but very exciting to see how this one is going to shape out.
00:58:49What about Eden Mortari? He's got no attack modes remaining. Some of the other drivers behind him do.
00:58:53So is he going to be left a bit of a sitting duck, or is it going to work out on the converse to that?
00:58:58The other blessing to these guys with six minutes is there's still a chance of another safety car.
00:59:01Let's not forget how much action we're going to see with them all driving flat out. You're going to see them very, very close.
00:59:06There's still a chance of safety car, and if that happens and they've all activated their attack mode, they're going to use their six minutes.
00:59:11The grid's quite spread out still. There's still cars that are trying to catch up to the back of this pack, mainly looking at the likes of Taylor Barnard, Nick de Vries.
00:59:18They're not on the back yet. Is it a standing start?
00:59:21We're waiting for confirmation of that here in the commentary box. It looks like it's going to be because they're all lining up on the grid, aren't they?
00:59:27So we are going to get a standing start then and there are going to be four laps until the lights will go out.
00:59:33Confirmation there, according to rate of control, there will be a standing start.
00:59:36So it'll be the two Tag Heuer Porsches on the front row of the grid.
00:59:39Mortara in 3rd, Fright in 4th, Degrassi 5th, Natto 6th, Bird 7th, Katady in 8th, but he's got a five-second time penalty.
00:59:46Who is going to take profit and who is going to be left down in the doldrums?
00:59:50We're about to find out as they line up for what will hopefully be the final time here today in Miami.
00:59:57Dan Tickton, 14th position for him, one attack mode deployment, but he's right in front of a load of other guys who've got one of those attack modes remaining.
01:00:05Before the start of this race, we were saying how narrow that Turn 1 is, and they are all about to go barreling in there at full speed with energy to spend.
01:00:13This is going to be exciting.
01:00:15So then, it is going to be eyes on the lights, let's wait for the start procedure to begin here in Miami.
01:00:21All of the 21 remaining drivers in this race are now lined up.
01:00:25The green light is on at the back of the field, and we wait for the five red lights to come on and the race to get underway.
01:00:32Five red lights are about to come on then here in Miami.
01:00:36The restarted race with De Costa on pole position is go!
01:00:40And they head down towards the first corner, good start from Wehrlein on the outside.
01:00:43Keep an eye out for De Vries as well as he tries to move over on the inside and splits the two-tag higher portions.
01:00:48So De Costa, it is the lead, side-by-side there with De Grassi versus Norman Nato in towards Turn 2.
01:00:53De Grassi's on the inside, Nato's trying to firm it around the outside.
01:00:56Snap of Oversteer there for him, and Bird as well keeping a watching brief, but he's got six minutes of attack mode remaining as he just kisses the back of De Grassi.
01:01:05Into attack mode go the remaining drivers, they've got absolutely no choice, and look at how messy it gets into there as well.
01:01:11De Vries almost coming to a complete stop down at Turn 4.
01:01:15So down in towards Turn 6 we go to Costa, it is that leads from Mortara in second place, then Wehrlein up into third position.
01:01:26As we come out of Turn 7, yeah, it's action-packed, isn't it?
01:01:30Mortara's in a great position to capitalise on this. I wonder if he's going to be able to hold off the charging pack with those attack modes.
01:01:36Yeah, it certainly is. So out of Turn 8 we go then. De Costa, it is that leads, and look at him, he's got to go absolutely flat out.
01:01:43Wehrlein, though, coming down in towards Turns 10 and 11.
01:01:47I think Pascal could be on here. Oh, a bit of a Constantino going on there.
01:01:51Yeah, that was Johnny Rick Verne just getting caught up in a bit of bother, and that caused some problems further back.
01:01:55there as well. On board we ride with Robin Freit coming through into the final section of this lap.
01:02:03Da Costa, it is then that still leads the way. Three laps to go in this one.
01:02:07You can see confirmation of those attack modes which have now been deployed.
01:02:10And look who's got six minutes left, Freit, Natto, Bird, Roland.
01:02:13They're going to have to lift off before the end of this one. Confirmation of no added laps.
01:02:16And now, Wehrlein is up ahead of Mortara. And Mortara is all out of shape. Freit goes through and into third.
01:02:22This is going to be very close between the two Porsches. I think Pascal is going to get this.
01:02:26I think he's going to have such an advantage with the four-wheel drive. He's going to drive past Antonio.
01:02:30I'm going to feel very sorry for Antonio if he loses a win to Pascal for this.
01:02:34Out of turn four into the straight we go. It's very close indeed between the two Tacoya Porsches.
01:02:40They go side by side. Da Costa on the inside, Wehrlein on the outside into the braking zone of turn six.
01:02:45Wehrlein with attack mode and with four-wheel drive. Traction underneath him goes through and into the lead.
01:02:50Is he now going to drive away from Antonio Felix Da Costa? Is Da Costa second place under threat?
01:02:54Because here comes Robin Freit looking for the outside line into turn eight.
01:02:58And this is going to be easy pickings then for Robin Freit who goes through and up into second position.
01:03:05But he's got, of course, five minutes of attack mode remaining. That's the converse of it.
01:03:09He's going to have to lift off and wait for the end of this race.
01:03:12It seems like these guys have come to the conclusion they're just going to go for it and use it, the attack mode.
01:03:17If they cross the line with attack mode left, they'll take the sporting penalty.
01:03:20Because the rate they're going, I can't see how they're going to make the finish line and have used all their attack mode.
01:03:25That is tight there between Degrassi and Sam Bird down into turn 12.
01:03:30So Wehrlein it is that leads as they come across the timing line then here.
01:03:35So how is this one going to work out? Are we going to see these drivers who've got the longer amounts of attack mode,
01:03:40Freit and Nato in particular, waiting for the end of this race?
01:03:43Or are they just going to go absolutely flat out? Nato now through on Da Costa for third.
01:03:47We've got two laps left, about one and a half minutes a lap.
01:03:50So that would equal three minutes of attack mode that these guys are going to be able to use.
01:03:53They're going to have over a minute left when they get to the finish line.
01:03:56So for sure there's going to be guys that finish with attack mode.
01:03:59We want to fight anyway. We want to fight anyway. Nature behind on attack.
01:04:04So Da Costa there, we're going to fight anyway. And saying that Nato is in attack mode.
01:04:11Copy, copy, copy.
01:04:13I think Degrassi could be on here for P2 in this race.
01:04:19If my calculations are right, Wehrlein is going to get the win.
01:04:22Degrassi is going to be second and Da Costa third.
01:04:25Yeah, because all the drivers in front with that attack mode remaining are going to get penalties.
01:04:29And they're all trying to argue for innocence then here.
01:04:31Look at this. Four abreast down into turn eight.
01:04:34The McLaren there on the inside.
01:04:36Try to pull away again.
01:04:38There we go, Degrassi past Da Costa.
01:04:42That's a big move for the Lola Yamaha app team.
01:04:45Great stuff. From him on, the other Lola Yamaha app to Zain Maloney
01:04:48taking to the escape road down at the chicane.
01:04:51Manages to keep it facing in the right direction,
01:04:53but clearly getting involved in a bit of strife.
01:04:55At the end, though, of this lap, we come through with Pascal Wehrlein
01:04:58leading to start the final one here in Miami.
01:05:01And he has got a comfortable advantage over Robin Franks,
01:05:03who, of course, has got that attack mode remaining in this one,
01:05:07but he's not going to have the time to use all of it,
01:05:09so he's going to presumably suffer a post-race penalty.
01:05:12Yeah, this is going to be very difficult for the stewards to manage this situation
01:05:15because there's a lot of guys out there
01:05:17who are not going to be able to fulfill their allotment of time
01:05:20for their attack modes.
01:05:22So down through into turn four we go.
01:05:24Wehrlein is at Leeds. He's got 8% of energy.
01:05:26Nato's got a fair amount more expendable compared to the Tankhoya Porsche driver.
01:05:32Right there in third place, but that will not be third on the road.
01:05:36So this is going to be interesting to see how it all works out
01:05:39once we wait for whatever the post-race penalties are going to be
01:05:42if those who have still got the attack mode deployment remaining
01:05:44at the end of this one have not used it all.
01:05:47By our calculations, it looks like it'll be Lucas Degrassi
01:05:49who will come home in second place in the Lola Yamaha apt machine,
01:05:53which will be an emphatic result.
01:05:54Sam Bird's going through on the inside, but he, of course,
01:05:56is one of the drivers with that six minutes of attack mode remaining
01:05:59who won't be using it to the end of this one.
01:06:00But look here at Norman Nato trying to challenge Pascal Wehrlein
01:06:03into the chicane, side by side they go,
01:06:06and Wehrlein, of course, not in that active attack mode,
01:06:09whereas Nato is.
01:06:10So is Nato going to try and take the win on the road
01:06:12and try and argue the difference at the chequered flag of this race?
01:06:15Maybe Fries behind will be trying to follow a similar strategy.
01:06:18Don't do anything City either, we'll get penalty there,
01:06:21we'll be too much attack mode remaining.
01:06:22This race engineer Fabrice Russell there just saying
01:06:24exactly what we've been echoing in the commentary box then.
01:06:27So out of the final corner we go, and across the line
01:06:29it's going to be Pascal Wehrlein who surely will take victory.
01:06:32Who's going to get it first on the road? Nato takes first on the road.
01:06:35Wehrlein in second, Freit in third,
01:06:37Roland in fourth and Bird in fifth position.
01:06:39Degrassi comes over the line in sixth with Da Costa down there in seventh place
01:06:43who really did not pay benefits for him then.
01:06:47and Barnard over the line in eighth place as well.
01:06:50So Nato is classified as the victor as it stands for now,
01:06:54but unsurprisingly there's going to be a plethora of investigations
01:06:58because we had four drivers, five drivers still actively in attack mode
01:07:03at the end of that race.
01:07:06So huge drama then here in Miami.
01:07:09Nato over the line in first position,
01:07:12but we are fairly sure in the commentary box
01:07:14that it will be Pascal Wehrlein who will be crowned
01:07:16as the eventual victor, courtesy of the fact that he had no attack mode remaining.
01:07:21Yeah, it's a difficult one for the stewards to figure out and argue.
01:07:24I mean, you can see Nato hitting the steering wheel there.
01:07:26He seems disappointed. He's won the race on the road,
01:07:29but he's not been able to use his full eight minutes of attack mode.
01:07:33It's going to be an interesting one to see how they quickly adjust the results
01:07:36and make sure that we get the correct order.
01:07:38Billy, let's catch up with him, see what he's got to say.
01:07:40Norman Nato, congratulations on winning the race on the road.
01:07:44But here in the comms box, we're really struggling to digest what we've just seen.
01:07:48Do you know currently if you're going to hold on to this win
01:07:50or what the penalty might be if it comes your way?
01:07:53Well, unfortunately, I think the penalty has come our way.
01:07:59Yeah, pretty unlucky to be honest.
01:08:01Just like we had six minutes left, red flag at the worst moment for us.
01:08:05So, yeah, that's a bit my beginning of the season, to be honest, like we're fast,
01:08:11but so far, yeah, nothing comes our way.
01:08:13So, yeah, plenty of positive today.
01:08:15But yeah, this one is a bit difficult to swallow, of course.
01:08:18Well, Norman, that was a really unlucky result in the end there,
01:08:20considering you think the penalty is coming your way.
01:08:22But congratulations on a strong weekend.
01:08:24You bounced back, you got those points of pole position,
01:08:26so you won't come away empty-handed, that's for sure.
01:08:28Congratulations again.
01:08:30Yeah, thank you very much. Thanks.
01:08:33So, Norman Nato then across the line in first place,
01:08:37but the stewards are going to be very busy indeed here.
01:08:40Let's have a look at what happened to Pascal Verlund,
01:08:43and he was told not to fight it.
01:08:45Don't worry, mate. Don't worry. So that's P2 on the road.
01:08:50They have 30 seconds remaining at Tacmo, they will get penalty.
01:08:53Good job, mate. Good job, mate.
01:08:54They are already under investigation.
01:08:55Fantastic job. Fantastic job.
01:08:58What a crazy and chaotic race. Formula E always delivers.
01:09:02All at 20 seconds at Tacmo remaining.
01:09:04So that's a penalty for sure.
01:09:06So if we're correct then, Lucas Degrassi, Lola Yamaha Apt team,
01:09:12could very well be on the podium. He is.
01:09:14You can see them pointing the cars in.
01:09:16What an amazing performance from Lucas Degrassi
01:09:18and the Lola Yamaha Apt team.
01:09:21They'll be delighted with that, no doubt about it.
01:09:23It's been a tough couple of seasons for them,
01:09:25a new partnership and a new dawn,
01:09:27and from hero to zero sort of stuff, as you can see.
01:09:30Well, they've just committed to Gen 4,
01:09:31and look at the result that they've got from their eight weeks break.
01:09:34I mean, they could become a force to reckon with
01:09:36in this championship very shortly.
01:09:38She was just trying to work out who's third at the moment,
01:09:39because no one's pulled up in Parc Fermet.
01:09:41Interestingly, 0.119 of a second
01:09:45is the second-closest winning margin in Formula E history.
01:09:49So despite the fact that there is some drama at the end of that one,
01:09:52there you go, you can see Frantz, Bird, Barnard, Natto, and Roland
01:09:56all under investigation for the attack mode misusage.
01:09:59Essentially, they had too much attack mode,
01:10:00they didn't complete the deployments at the end of that race.
01:10:03So that would put Antonio Felix da Costa on the podium in third.
01:10:06A good reward for him,
01:10:08although he's going to be gutted to have missed the victory
01:10:10after driving such a perfect first part of the race until that red flag.
01:10:14Also, looking at who we think might be fourth,
01:10:16I think Nico Muller might finish that race in fourth position.
01:10:20I mean, considering the weekend he's had up until now,
01:10:22that would be such a strong result for Andretti here at that home race.
01:10:26Well, Muller was ninth across the line as well,
01:10:28so it just goes to show you how this race has been turned on its head
01:10:32following the chequered flag and these post-race penalties that will be applied.
01:10:36But that's also the risk that these guys who didn't take it run, you know,
01:10:39they could have taken it earlier in the race, they knew the laps were counting down,
01:10:42they didn't take their attack mode, and they exposed themselves to that risk.
01:10:46It's something that all the teams should be managing.
01:10:48You can see that Porsche managed it perfectly, as well as a few other teams,
01:10:52but some got it really wrong.
01:10:54And here that's, you know, solely their responsibility,
01:10:56to make sure they don't expose themselves to that risk,
01:10:58because they know that a safety car, they know that a red flag is a potential.
01:11:02Lucas Di Grassi, last time he was on the podium,
01:11:04Mexico City in 2023, the first race of the season,
01:11:08when he was with the Mahindra team back then.
01:11:11Incredible job from the Lola Yamaha app team to manage that.
01:11:15Of course, a fair bit of luck on their side, let's be fair,
01:11:18given the misfortune of some others, but that's racing, isn't it?
01:11:21You've got to be in the right place at the right time.
01:11:23Well, you've got to play to the rule book.
01:11:24I mean, the rules are very clear.
01:11:26We all knew them, and, you know, some people just got caught out by them.
01:11:29Antonio also got caught out. He didn't win the race,
01:11:32and to be perfectly honest, he should have.
01:11:35There we are, 10-second time penalty for Frijs, Barnard, Bird, Natto,
01:11:40and Roland for attack mode misusage.
01:11:43So the race result will be that Da Costa is going to be on the podium
01:11:47in third place.
01:11:48So a double podium for Tankoia Porsche.
01:11:50That man that we just saw, Pascal Verlein, opening his checkbook,
01:11:54the reigning world champion, with his first victory of the season.
01:11:58Some other drivers that are set to benefit as well,
01:12:00the likes of Dan Tichtum, who was just outside of the points,
01:12:02as well as Dennis.
01:12:04So Verlein, Degrassi, Da Costa is going to be the podium result,
01:12:16and you have to feel for Norman Natto.
01:12:18He didn't do anything wrong, did he, really?
01:12:20It's unfortunate for him. He's at great pace this weekend.
01:12:22Best we've seen so far.
01:12:24The only thing he could have done is to have slowed down
01:12:26and made sure he used his attack mode allotment
01:12:28before he crossed the finish line.
01:12:30That was the only option these guys had.
01:12:32You know, some of them figured that they'd just go for it
01:12:34and argue it out afterwards.
01:12:36Ultimately, that's the wrong decision.
01:12:37The rules are the rules.
01:12:38We've got confirmation now of the rules,
01:12:40and the result that we've now got on our timing screens
01:12:43in front of us, so it's as we predicted, thankfully.
01:12:46Well, Natto picks up P6, so he has got some points.
01:12:49I mean, you had a quick chat with him, Billy, after the race.
01:12:51He sounded very flat, I mean, of course,
01:12:53but he drove brilliantly this weekend.
01:12:55Pole position, his first ever one,
01:12:57and he's definitely regaining some of his form,
01:12:59and I think there's a lot of confidence
01:13:01he's going to be able to take away from this weekend.
01:13:03Well, disappointment for Oliver Rowland,
01:13:05because he's outside of the points in 11th place
01:13:07in the final classification there as well.
01:13:10Let's catch up with our race winner, Pascal Wehrlein.
01:13:15Pascal Wehrlein, what a crazy race.
01:13:17You must be delighted to take your first victory of the season.
01:13:20Yeah, I am.
01:13:23Super chaotic race.
01:13:26I don't know what to say,
01:13:27because at one point I thought the race was done
01:13:29when David and me touched on the chicane
01:13:32when he went off there.
01:13:34I felt like my steering was a bit bent afterwards,
01:13:36and I thought actually the race is over,
01:13:38but then I did two corners and the car felt kind of okay.
01:13:41Yeah, progress to the front.
01:13:44Obviously, in the end, a bit lucky with the safety car,
01:13:47to be honest, but I think we have had enough bad luck,
01:13:51so we can also be lucky for once,
01:13:53and yeah, great job by everyone for bringing home this result.
01:13:58Well, third across the line, but it's ultimately the win.
01:14:01What was going through your head trying to manage everything
01:14:03in those final four laps?
01:14:05Well, I knew that all the cars behind still had an attack mode to do,
01:14:11some of them six minutes,
01:14:13and my team kept me informed who is in six minutes,
01:14:18and I still wanted to finish the race in P1 over the line.
01:14:22I tried, but yeah, the grip in 350 and the four-wheel drive
01:14:26is just so much more.
01:14:28But yeah, I knew that there was a penalty coming for Nato,
01:14:32and yeah, it is what it is.
01:14:36Huge congratulations, our race winner, Pascal Wehrlein.
01:14:39So, Pascal Wehrlein then crowned as the victor,
01:14:47didn't finish first on the road,
01:14:48but following the post-race penalties for the attack mode misusage,
01:14:54he takes his first win of the season.
01:14:56Very impressive result there for Pascal Wehrlein.
01:14:59The tagline Porsche team managing that one perfectly,
01:15:02and you can see what it means to the team back in the garage,
01:15:08and it's a double podium as well,
01:15:09because Antonio Phoenix D'Acosta finishes in third.
01:15:11Let's catch up with Lucas Di Grassi,
01:15:12second place in the Lolo Yamaha apt.
01:15:13Lucas Di Grassi, two years since your last podium,
01:15:15your first with Lolo Yamaha apt.
01:15:17Talk me through your emotions right now.
01:15:19Amazing day.
01:15:21We started the day with a good qualifying P7,
01:15:23which was the best of the year,
01:15:25and then in the race, honestly,
01:15:28it was a combination of a very good strategy,
01:15:31being in the right time, in the right moment,
01:15:34when the safety car came,
01:15:36and then we had enough attack mode to finish the race,
01:15:38so I didn't have to fight the people around me.
01:15:40And yeah, P2, my first podium in two years,
01:15:44so I'm very, very pleased for myself,
01:15:46but also for the Lolo Yamaha team.
01:15:49They worked so hard during the break,
01:15:50so very, very happy for them.
01:15:52They really deserve this,
01:15:54and it's going to be a massive boost for us
01:15:56for the rest of the season.
01:15:57Huge congratulations.
01:15:58Very well deserved, Lucas.
01:15:59Thank you.
01:16:01Lucas Degrassi taking his first podium
01:16:03since Mexico City in 2023
01:16:06with the Lolo Yamaha apt team.
01:16:08It was pretty close to Dicey
01:16:09with Edo Mortara at one point in that race,
01:16:11but he managed that one perfectly.
01:16:13There's no substitute for experience,
01:16:15and, well, that came right to the fore
01:16:17for the Brazilian.
01:16:18He might be in the latter stages
01:16:20of his driving career,
01:16:21but he's still got the aptitude
01:16:24to pull the performances out
01:16:26when he needs to.
01:16:27And Telefix, DaCosta third place
01:16:29for the Portuguese driver.
01:16:31A double podium for the Tankoia Porsche team
01:16:33here in Miami as well.
01:16:36We'll go down and catch up with him
01:16:38in a few moments.
01:16:40She's down there in Parque Fermet
01:16:42as we can see.
01:16:44And he's probably just as confused as we are
01:16:47here in the commentary box
01:16:48about the end of that race.
01:16:50So DaCosta is saying that
01:16:52he's not going to come and talk to us,
01:16:54unfortunately, there.
01:16:55Oh, hang on a minute.
01:16:56We're being told that he is going to come
01:16:57and talk to us.
01:16:58We'll get that.
01:16:59I'm sure slightly frustrated,
01:17:00Antonio Filius DaCosta
01:17:01for missing a win.
01:17:02Still a great podium
01:17:03and a great performance from him,
01:17:05but, yeah, that one's going to be
01:17:07a bit tough to swallow,
01:17:08especially as he did everything right.
01:17:10Yeah, let's catch up then
01:17:11with Antonio Filius DaCosta.
01:17:12A bit frustrated with that one,
01:17:13but let's see what the Portuguese driver
01:17:15has to make after finishing third
01:17:17here in Miami.
01:17:20Antonio Filius DaCosta,
01:17:25an absolutely crazy race,
01:17:28but still coming away with a podium.
01:17:30Talk me through your emotions right now.
01:17:32Right now I'm just angry,
01:17:34but it's the rules are the rules.
01:17:37and we got done today by being too good,
01:17:43because we were that good on energy
01:17:45that I could split my attacks in the aggressive way
01:17:48to have the six minutes at the end
01:17:49to go away and win the race.
01:17:51and we did, when we did that already had a,
01:17:54I don't know, two or three second gap
01:17:56and the safety car came out and the others
01:17:58had the attack modes left to take.
01:18:00So, yeah, it hurts.
01:18:02You go, you go to the factory for two or three days
01:18:05in the same, you fly all the way here.
01:18:07You do, we did the perfect race today.
01:18:09We executed the perfect day
01:18:11and then you lose a win like that.
01:18:12But, again, I mean, it's still P3.
01:18:15I'm happy for the team,
01:18:16but, yeah, this one is painful.
01:18:19Thank you, Antonio.
01:18:20We'll let you get to the podium.
01:18:22Antonio Filius DaCosta frustrated
01:18:24after finishing third
01:18:25and missed opportunity, so he feels.
01:18:27But, James, you don't think it's quite as bad as it seems.
01:18:29No, it could have been much worse.
01:18:30I mean, look, he drove a perfect race.
01:18:32He showed all the performance
01:18:33that he needed to
01:18:34to everybody in this championship today.
01:18:36He delivered everything perfect.
01:18:38He was in the lead.
01:18:39He had more energy than everyone else.
01:18:41He just got caught out by the red flag.
01:18:43Now, the other side of the coin is the fact
01:18:45that when he got that red flag,
01:18:47he managed to actually spend his energy.
01:18:51Yeah, absolutely.
01:18:52I mean, it's going to be disappointing,
01:18:54a potential victory slipping through the fingers
01:18:56of DaCosta there,
01:18:57but that's the circumstances he was dealt, unfortunately.
01:19:01It's the way that it goes in racing sometimes.
01:19:03Yeah, he could have been in the boat with the others
01:19:05where they've got a penalty
01:19:06and they've really lost out.
01:19:07I mean, he's still on the podium.
01:19:08He's still great for his championship.
01:19:10He's still in a strong position.
01:19:11He's looking like he's very consistent at the moment.
01:19:14Looks faster than Pascal,
01:19:15even though Pascal won the race today.
01:19:17But still, very strong performance from Porsche.
01:19:19They seem to be right on top of their game.
01:19:21And with all the races coming up
01:19:23over the next several weeks,
01:19:25he's in a great position to capitalize on that momentum,
01:19:28and he shouldn't carry too much frustration.
01:19:30I think once he watches the race back,
01:19:31he'll realize it could have been much worse.
01:19:34Some of the slickest golf carts I've ever seen.
01:19:37I have to say, that's a full aerodynamics spec,
01:19:39that is, right there.
01:19:40No windscreen.
01:19:41And, well, I'm sure they've probably enjoyed the breeze,
01:19:44actually, because it's quite warm here this afternoon.
01:19:4626 laps of racing in Miami,
01:19:49and, well, they'll be looking forward to a nice cold shower,
01:19:54I'm sure, after the conclusion of this race.
01:19:57First the champagne shower.
01:19:58Absolutely.
01:19:59Absolutely.
01:20:00Antonio Filixta Costa there,
01:20:01third place for him,
01:20:02just talking to Lucas Di Grassi,
01:20:04Pascal Verline on the top step of the podium.
01:20:08his eighth victory in Formula E history.
01:20:1135 race streak coming to an end of a podiumless finish there
01:20:16for Lucas Di Grassi with that P2.
01:20:18It makes it his 41st career podium,
01:20:20and his 10th career podium when starting outside of the top six.
01:20:24Also, as we know,
01:20:25makes it the first podium for the Lola Yamaha team.
01:20:28It just goes to show you really have to be in the right place,
01:20:31and qualifying put him in the right place.
01:20:33That great performance to put himself P7 on the grid
01:20:36really enabled this result.
01:20:38Yeah, makes him the second-oldest podium finisher
01:20:40in Formula E history,
01:20:41just behind Stefan Sarrazel.
01:20:42Crikey.
01:20:43It's a statistic he won't be that proud of.
01:20:45No, he's probably not going to thank me for reeling that one off,
01:20:48but we always knew it was going to be pretty action-packed here in Miami.
01:20:53I have to say,
01:20:54I didn't see it going quite the way that it did there, Billy,
01:20:56but I'm glad that we had a bit of a barnstorm at the end.
01:20:59Yeah, that was definitely a very Formula E finish
01:21:01to the end of that race.
01:21:03I mean, there was so much going on.
01:21:04There was energy efficiency.
01:21:06There was who hadn't used attack mode.
01:21:08There was running out of laps, honestly.
01:21:10There was a lot going on out there, but the drivers, you know,
01:21:13in that situation, not much they could have done.
01:21:15The strategy at that point was the strategy,
01:21:17and I think they just all have to keep their heads held high,
01:21:20and especially Antonio Fias Acosta.
01:21:22He's come away with a podium, and it could have been a lot worse there.
01:21:25Well, the drivers now making their way onto the podium here in Miami.
01:21:30At his consulate, Antonio Fias Acosta.
01:21:32I mean, to be honest, I think he'd rather be anywhere but there,
01:21:35as it stands for now.
01:21:36But he does take the accolade of the PIF driver of the race
01:21:39with 24% of the votes.
01:21:41Yeah, he was definitely my driver of the race.
01:21:44He didn't put a foot wrong.
01:21:46He performed exceptionally well.
01:21:48He was always at the front, super efficient,
01:21:50using the slipstream and really maximizing it.
01:21:53Whoever was in front of him, he was maximizing it.
01:21:55If it was Norman or we saw De Vries at the front.
01:21:58You know, Antonio held strong to his strategy,
01:22:01took the energy, put it in his pocket,
01:22:03and was fully ready to win that race today.
01:22:05Yeah, fantastic job from Acosta.
01:22:08Given the circumstances, nothing he could have really done
01:22:10given where he ended up with that one.
01:22:12But now the three drivers making their way onto the podium here
01:22:16in front of the adoring crowd in Miami.
01:22:19Team representative also for Tag Heuer Porsche
01:22:24making their way onto the rostrum.
01:22:29They're just sort of waiting for the instruction to go
01:22:31onto the podium here at the moment.
01:22:34And now the celebration's about to begin.
01:22:42What a weekend.
01:22:43It's been worth the racing here.
01:22:45Drama right down to the chequered flag and indeed after it as well.
01:22:48A double podium for the Tag Heuer Porsche team.
01:22:50I think they'll be pretty pleased with that.
01:22:51Tag Heuer Porsche Formula E team is
01:22:54Olivier Champenois, Chief Race Engineer.
01:22:56To perfection.
01:22:57So then drivers making their way onto the podium here.
01:23:06First of all, the team dignitary as well.
01:23:09Got the Tag Heuer Porsche outfit in front of the crowd here in Miami.
01:23:14Jeff Dodds with his shades on there looking like a men in black tribute act.
01:23:20I'm only kidding of course.
01:23:23But wonderful to see Tag Heuer Porsche on the top of the podium.
01:23:27And also for Pascal Verlein to open his checking accounts.
01:23:30Antonio Felix de Costa.
01:23:32We can see from his body language he looks quite disappointed with that one.
01:23:36But I have to say he can hold his head high.
01:23:38He put in a great performance.
01:23:40He walked right where he needed to be at the end of that one.
01:23:43But unfortunately just luck not being in his favour.
01:23:46We saw other drivers losing out on opportunities.
01:23:49Norman Natto being the main one of course.
01:23:51Victory slipping through his fingers.
01:23:53Plus to having to put a bit of a great face on the judge.
01:23:58Yeah, it's a bitter pill to swallow when you know that you had it in the bag really.
01:24:02And still a great performance from him.
01:24:04Definitely deserves to be on the podium.
01:24:06And this man, what a performance today.
01:24:08I mean, talk about outperforming your car.
01:24:11And talk about a team that's really starting to bring themselves together.
01:24:14They've used these eight weeks to really grow.
01:24:16And it's great to see them performing as well.
01:24:19Yeah, podium then for Lucas de Grassi.
01:24:21The first for the Lola Yamaha Alliance with the APT team.
01:24:26And they'll be delighted with that.
01:24:28Watching the video with Johnny Herbert, their team ambassador,
01:24:32on Instagram actually just before the start of this race.
01:24:35And I have to say the expectations probably were not going to be
01:24:38quite what it turned out to be.
01:24:40But that's the thing with Formula E.
01:24:41You've got to be in the right place at the right time.
01:24:43The experience of Lucas de Grassi really coming to fruition there.
01:24:47Very well-deserved podium finish for the Brazilian driver.
01:24:50Here is Pascal Verline!
01:24:53And Pascal Verline then, his eighth career victory in Formula E,
01:24:57opens his account for season 11.
01:25:00A double podium for the tag player Porsche team.
01:25:03And that will also help him hugely in the Drivers' Championship.
01:25:08Just looking at the results from that one.
01:25:10Roland, of course, is outside of the point.
01:25:12Barnard was also not where he wanted to be at the end of that one.
01:25:19Outside of the points classified in 20th place in the end.
01:25:21So I should think that that means that Da Costa will inherit the lead
01:25:26of the Drivers' Championship.
01:25:28I think it would be very close indeed.
01:25:30I think if he'd won the race, yes.
01:25:32Time now for the national anthem then,
01:25:35with the winning giver Pascal Verline.
01:25:38is for the winner of the
01:25:45War of Guarman 2.
01:25:47He is a really close tonight.
01:25:48He is a great-given man of Guarman 2.
01:25:50He is a perfect-given man of Guarman 2.
01:25:51He won the race, yes.
01:25:52He has a great-given man of Guarman 3.
01:25:53He is a great-given man of Guarman 3.
01:25:55Terima kasih.
01:26:25Terima kasih.
01:26:55Terima kasih.
01:27:25Terima kasih.
01:27:55Terima kasih.
01:28:25Terima kasih.
01:28:55Terima kasih.
