Tyler Forness discusses what the majority of 2025 NFL Mock Drafts are saying and why Minnesota Vikings fans should be prepared to go in a different direction.
Transcript
00:00The NFL Draft is fast approaching, and these three prospects are the most likely to end up in Minnesota,
00:05according to the mock drafts, but they probably won't end up here.
00:08Let's talk about it.
00:12The Minnesota Vikings are a very intriguing team to watch when it comes to the NFL Draft.
00:16One of the reasons why?
00:17They can do anything they want, because there is not a single dire need on the roster.
00:23They could take an edge rusher.
00:24They could take a tight end.
00:26They probably won't do either of those things, but they could,
00:28because they need depth in those positions, just like wide receiver, linebacker.
00:33But the more common needs that you see are defensive tackle, cornerback, left guard, and safety.
00:39And the latter of those is the most popular one that the mock drafts have been sending the Minnesota Vikings.
00:45Of the 501 mock drafts that I've collected since January 1st, these are all industry mock drafts.
00:53No jabronis here, just NFL analysts and NFL draft analysts in the industry.
01:00194 selections.
01:0238.7% have been the top three players.
01:05What do they all have in common?
01:06They all arguably project best to play safety.
01:09Yes, Nick Aminwari from South Carolina, Malachi Starks from Georgia, and Texas' Jaday Barron.
01:18Now, Barron played a lot in the slot and in the box in 2023, and almost exclusively on the outside in 24,
01:24but his skill set matches up to play a Minka Fitzpatrick-type role in the National Football League.
01:30That's how I would best use him.
01:32Now, you could try him at outside corner, but I'm grouping him in with these guys because they all would be safeties for the Minnesota Vikings, in my personal opinion.
01:42And I don't think they're going to end up taking a safety.
01:45Why?
01:46Well, Kwecio Fomenta has made comments in the past that, one, safety is very hard to evaluate, and two, well, the first one that they picked was Luis Cine.
01:56That was the first pick of the Kwecio Fomenta era, and it bombed.
02:00He wasn't on the roster in year three.
02:03So, is he going to want to go back to that same position or continue to fortify in premium positions?
02:09Defensive tackle, edge, corner, wide receiver is even a possibility.
02:15Even though it makes sense for players like Aminwari Starks and Barron to go to the Minnesota Vikings, there's a need at those positions.
02:22There's too much context surrounding the team and how they're building this that say, you know what?
02:29I think they're going to prioritize other positions, even if this one is a position of need.
02:33Now, the numbers are staggering.
02:3684 selections for Nick Aminwari, 61 for Malachi Starks, and 49 for Jade Barron.
02:42But, even so, I would expect him to go in a different direction, with the trenches probably being the most likely with how this offseason has gone.
02:52It's been a trench overhaul this year, and I don't think it's done yet.
02:56I'm Tyler Farnes with ADZ Sports.
02:59Skull Vikings.
