Business Insider surveyed 150 Wall Street bound college students about their career tracks, motivations and aspirations to understand what's fueling their decision to pursue some of the most demanding post-grad jobs.
Transcript
00:00The path to Wall Street can be brutal, but young people don't really care.
00:04In our survey, we asked students to rate the importance of different factors in their first job on a scale of one to four.
00:11And 56% of the respondents said that compensation was a four.
00:16That makes sense when you consider the results of another part of our survey in which we asked students which types of finance jobs they're planning to go into immediately post-grad.
00:2674% of respondents said investment banking.
00:31And indeed, investment banking jobs are some of the most highly paid entry-level gigs out there.
00:39Some banks pay upwards of $110,000 per year to first-year analysts as a base salary.
00:46Long hours had the highest average concern rating.
00:5037% of respondents rated it a four, followed by stress, where 33% of respondents rated that a four.
00:58Even those who do have concerns or worries about things like long hours and high stress, they're largely still pursuing the jobs anyway.
01:08They've heard the stories of young banger deaths, but they believe that they'll be rewarded in one way or another down the line for all the work that they put in.
01:18And they see it as something that they sort of just have to accept if they want to be successful in the field in the long term.
01:25And they see it as something that they can do.
