00:00The latest in college esports from the students that play, play, play, go behind the scenes at the schools that game.
00:09The only place where esports are on campus.
00:15Welcome back to Checkpoint XP on Campus, your number one resource for esports at the college level.
00:21And for the last segment of the show, we like to do a little bit of fun stuff.
00:25And we're going to play a game this week called Mount Rushmore.
00:28Each of our hosts are going to give their four greatest blank of video games.
00:34And this week, it's going to be founding franchises.
00:38These are the most foundational games in all of video games to these guys.
00:44So we're going to have Daniel, managing editor Kevin Kelly, and Jacob give those answers.
00:50And I, as the lone arbiter of this game, will pass judgment upon our fair hosts.
00:56So, Daniel, start us off.
00:59What are the most important foundational franchises in video games?
01:03So the winning list is Super Mario, Quake, Angry Birds, and Street Fighter.
01:10Bring it on.
01:11I mean, as long as you don't have Fatal Fury, it's a pretty good list.
01:15We're not talking about Fatal Fury.
01:16Stop talking about Fatal Fury.
01:18Live alone.
01:19But I am relieved that you didn't pull out games that were, like, all games that were just old.
01:23I think Angry Birds is a really cool pick.
01:25Well, the reason why I put that on there is because it's the start of the mobile gaming.
01:28Yeah, I agree.
01:29That's why it feels like it's important to have that on there.
01:31What about you, Kevin?
01:31It's very mighty of you to even include mobile gaming even in this, the context of this discussion.
01:36Weren't you the one who tweeted that you hate mobile games?
01:38But I recognize it's important and it's impact, guys.
01:41That's because I don't like it.
01:42It doesn't mean it's not important.
01:44Jacob?
01:44Sounds like some denial.
01:47I need you to just...
01:48Time!
01:49Time.
01:49There we go.
01:50Jeez.
01:52All right, are you up next?
01:53Yes, Kevin, you're up next.
01:55Give us your wisdom.
01:55I'm going to match your sentiment with Super Mario Bros.
01:58Okay.
01:59I'm also going to go with Halo.
02:00Love it.
02:00Grand Theft Auto and ESPN NFL 2K5.
02:05So, why the 2K series when they don't even exist anymore?
02:10ESPN NFL 2K5 is the single game that made EA have a little running stream down their pants,
02:17forcing them to lock up a licensing deal with the NFL.
02:22For the rest of time, ESPN NFL 2K5 is a ghost that Madden has been chasing for over a decade now.
02:28I mean, I picked games that were still alive.
02:29What's your...
02:30What made you pick Halo over Call of Duty?
02:34The first Halo game was called Combat Evolved, and there's literally no possible title that could
02:39be more on the nose than that.
02:40It changed first-person shooters, changed the way we look at video games.
02:44It changed everything.
02:46It was the first video game that was fully unavoidable as far as public America, like,
02:52popular culture in America.
02:53Monday Night Football game commercials, Mountain Dew cans, all that stuff.
02:57All right, Jacob.
02:58Why don't we give us yours?
02:59Now is my turn.
03:00All right.
03:01Well, I am in concurrence with Super Mario Bros.
03:02And then I have World of Warcraft.
03:05I have Minecraft, because it inspired the entire indie scene.
03:09Of course.
03:09And PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds.
03:12Uh-oh.
03:12Oh.
03:14Here's the problem here.
03:15Like, I don't really disagree with anything on this list.
03:17I'm a little questionable on PUBG, just because did it really start the Battle Royale?
03:25Yeah, true.
03:26I really think...
03:26I mean, there was, like, Minecraft Hunger Games.
03:28I'm saying.
03:29It's like, we might have a little bit of a redundancy.
03:31PUBG was the first Battle Royale to have a vision and fully execute,
03:34where it's like, here's how the loot tables are going to work.
03:36Here's how the map's going to be.
03:38Here are things going to push you in that direction.
03:40And then it spawned Fortnite.
03:41Spawned Apex Legends.
03:43Spawned all those clones.
03:45But what's the one that people are going to remember in the future, in history?
03:48They're going to remember Fortnite.
03:50They are going to remember Fortnite, but this is our founding games.
03:53People are going to remember Madden more than they are going to NFL 2K5.
03:56So, see, you're making my point.
03:58You're invalidating your own list.
03:59You realize that, right?
03:59No, because...
04:00No, it's a founding game.
04:01Exactly.
04:02It's at the frame.
04:04Oh, okay.
04:05Time.
04:06So, back to me.
04:08As the arbiter of the game in picking the foundational franchises of Mount Rushmore,
04:14I have decreed that the winner is Daniel.
04:19Yeah!
04:19The winner is Daniel.
04:20Yes!
04:21The winner is Daniel.
04:22I don't have a family pennant.
04:23Just because there's a stupid fighting game in it.
04:25No, here is why.
04:27Simply because Kevin argued against his own point, and Jacob was very close to winning,
04:34but I do think that if you're talking about foundational franchises and talking about battle royales,
04:40you've got to talk about H1Z1, which is what everything took from.
04:44That's true.
04:45See, everyone forgot about it because he's so bad.
04:46So, it was a very, very good list up until that point.
04:50And, and on top of that, guys, mobile gaming makes more money than almost any genre of gaming out there.
04:59So, it is very important to put that in the list.
05:02Welcome back to Checkpoint XP on Campus, your number one resource for collegiate esports.
05:09We usually like to do something a little bit fun at the end of the day, just to cap it off.
05:14But, uh, one of our producers, Ethan Schneider, has shared with us a, a list, a very important list that he,
05:21he wants to bring to the show.
05:23So, Ethan, I suppose, take it away.
05:26Tell us what your list is about, buddy.
05:28As lead producer of Checkpoint XP on Campus, one of my duties is to provide not only hard news and stuff you want to watch,
05:38but to provide the news you want to hear.
05:43So, with that being said, it's time, the time, for my top five, count of one, two, three, four, five,
05:53grasses in all of video games.
05:55This idea's stupid and I hate it.
05:56Let's get started.
05:58Here's to you, Daniel.
06:00Number five, Green Hill Zone.
06:02Let's go.
06:02Why?
06:03Because it's not only is it iconic, but if you think of the Genesis and Sonic as a whole,
06:09that's the zone you think of.
06:11That's the grass.
06:12Not only is it the grass, but it is the grass of Jacob's childhood.
06:17And it's also really nice and holds the hills together, I say.
06:21Now, moving on to number four, Gary's Mod.
06:24Why?
06:24Look at the grass.
06:27It looks comfy.
06:28It's like a bug in a rug.
06:29It's so snug.
06:31It's so comfy.
06:33We're talking about video games.
06:34This is video games.
06:36You're saying Gary's Mod is not a video game?
06:37Anyway, number three, moving on, Breath of the Wild.
06:41See, look at that.
06:42Without the grass, Breath of the Wild would be a five out of ten.
06:46With the grass, 20 out of three.
06:49Bet your bottom...
06:50That doesn't make any sense.
06:51Bet your bottom candy bar on that.
06:54Number two, let's move on.
06:55Pokemon.
06:56Why?
06:57Not only can you catch them all, you could be it all.
07:00You could see it all.
07:01That grass is iconic, man.
07:03And that's from Gen 3.
07:06Nice.
07:06Now, it's not good, but this one's better.
07:10Number one, moving on.
07:12Minecraft.
07:12Why?
07:13You could buy seeds.
07:15You could make wheat.
07:16You could make flowers die.
07:18It provides everything you need.
07:20It's there.
07:21It's iconic.
07:23It's also the best grass.
07:24This has been the grass man, Ethan Schneider, with my top five grasses of video games ever
07:30of the year of the week.
07:32I quit.
07:34So, that happened.
07:38Welcome back to Checkpoint XP on campus.
07:41And usually, for the last segment of the day, we like to do something a little fun.
07:45So, we're going to play a game called Name That Champion.
07:50So, Ethan, take it away.
07:52Welcome, ladies and gentlemen.
07:55I am your host, the grass man, Ethan Schneider.
07:58Feel terrible.
07:59And today, we'll be testing Daniel's League of Legends knowledge with the newest installment
08:04of Name That Champion.
08:06I didn't actually agree to this.
08:08Only aim of the game is simple.
08:10We'll give you the description of a champion and flash up the picture, and all you have
08:14to do is name that champion.
08:17Are you going to do that every time?
08:18Yes, I will.
08:19Let's get started.
08:21Our first champion.
08:23She revels in toying with her prey by manipulating their emotions before devouring their life essence.
08:30Fun.
08:30Her moves include the Stay in Grace, Charm, Orb of Deception, Spirit Rush, and Foxfire.
08:37Who is this champion?
08:39Is it KDA?
08:41It's from KDA.
08:43Oh, Ninetales Fox.
08:45What's her name?
08:48Beth.
08:49You idiot.
08:50It's Ari.
08:51Moving on.
08:52It selflessly uses its strength and durability to protect others, extending a helpful metal
08:58fist or burst of energy to subdue any troublemakers.
09:02Their moves include Rocket Grab, Overdrive, Power Fist, and Static Field.
09:09Daniel, who is this champion?
09:12Um, Big Hero 6.
09:14Wrong.
09:15You, ugh, you're dumb.
09:17It's Blitzcrank.
09:18You don't have to be so mean about it.
09:20Next up, she's a demon that drains you of your life force through Snoo-Snoo?
09:25Who wrote this?
09:27Her moves include Demon Shade, Hate Spike, Allure, Whiplash, and Last Caress.
09:33Daniel, who is this champion, you idiot?
09:36Um, I don't know her name, but I did meet her on Tinder once.
09:39Oh, boy.
09:41Wrong.
09:41That's Evelyn.
09:42Oh.
09:43Next, it's time to throw them purses.
09:46Frozen in True Eyes for millennia, the curious creature broke free and now hops about a changed
09:52world he sees as exotic and wondrous.
09:55Its moves are Rage Gene, Boomerang Throw, and or Boulder Toss, Hyper, and or Whallop, Hop,
10:03and or Crunch, and...
10:06Mwah.
10:07Who is this champion?
10:08Well, Jacob would kill me, but that's Gnar.
10:10Let's go!
10:11Right.
10:11I'm so proud of you!
10:12It's Gnar.
10:14It's Gnar?
10:15It's Gnar.
10:16No, it's not.
10:17Don't worry, Daniel.
10:18The pain will be over soon.
10:20What?
10:21Alright, moving on.
10:23Enemies who underestimate his meditative demeanor will endure his fabled Burning Fist and Blazing
10:28Roundhouse Kicks.
10:30His moves include Flurry, Sonic Wave and or Resonating, Safeguard and or Iron Will, Tempest
10:38and or Cripple, and Dragon's Rage.
10:41Daniel, who is this champion?
10:43Is that Liu Kang and or Ryu?
10:46Wrong.
10:47It's your boy, Lee Sin.
10:49Lee Sin.
10:50I love them in Taken.
10:52He's amazing.
10:53Last but not least, she dutifully charges in to battle, pushing back the kingdom's enemies
10:59with every whirling strike.
11:00Her moves include Iron Ambassador, Hammer Shock, Steadfast Presence, Heroic Charge, and Keeper's
11:07Verdict.
11:08Who is this champion?
11:10Smurfette.
11:11Close.
11:12It's poppy.
11:13Again, what did we learn today?
11:15I know nothing about League of Legends.
11:17Well, we already knew that.
11:18You know and are.
11:18But hey, you gave it a good attempt.
11:21Well, that's all the time we have today, folks.
11:23Until next time, say your vitamins, eat your prayers, and God bless America.
11:29You, girl!
11:32Go!
11:33Welcome back to Checkpoint XP on Campus, the number one resource for collegiate esports.
11:39And Jacob Brothers, aka Galaxy Brain, aka Fashion Fuego, is telling us what are some of the best
11:48skins to hit League of Legends this upcoming season.
11:51So be prepared, and definitely get your pocketbooks ready, because these are some hot threads.
11:58Jake, what's going on?
12:00Hello, darlings.
12:02We are here to talk about some skins.
12:05And these skins are themed after True Damage, a band.
12:09And so we're going to start with my girl, Akali.
12:11Okay?
12:12Now, Akali, she's probably one of the more basic of the bunch.
12:15She does have a pretty nice gas mask.
12:17Her hair and earrings are on point.
12:19I would call them fleek, but, you know, outside of, and her weapons are nice, but, like, her
12:24jacket's fine, her top's okay, but the gas mask, I think it does tie it all together a
12:28little bit nicely.
12:29Which one's better, this or the KDA outfit?
12:32This is the KDA outfit.
12:34No, this is the True Damage outfit.
12:36Oh, sorry.
12:37Well, I'm liking True Damage.
12:39So, moving on, we got Echo.
12:42Echo, my guy.
12:43He does look like a king, I gotta say.
12:45So for this, they went with some yellow accents.
12:48And I do think it does tie it together well.
12:50The yellow on the sword is the eye grabber.
12:52But if you look on the inside of the jacket collar, there is some yellow.
12:58And that also was a little splash of the shoe.
13:00Pretty nice.
13:01I'm going to say, you know, I'd wear it.
13:03I'd take it out.
13:05But I think the real talk of the show here is our girl, Kiana.
13:09Oh, my.
13:09Brother.
13:11Look at this skin.
13:12I cannot believe the amount of bling on this is intimidating, okay?
13:17First off, let's just start with the weapon.
13:18Because that's the elephant in the room.
13:19Those diamonds are bigger than her torso, bro.
13:22That weapon is worth at least 100 mil.
13:25I would let her hit me with that weapon, okay?
13:28That thing is so valuable.
13:30But moving on.
13:31What?
13:31Her jacket.
13:33Very nice.
13:34Very, very puffy.
13:36Very dominant, I'd say.
13:37And then her top matches her hair.
13:39Do you know what kind of a flex you have to have for your top to match your hair?
13:44Also, you know, the blue and pink, awesome combo.
13:47Some Hangzhou spark.
13:48I'm digging it.
13:49She has gold body jewelry.
13:52Dude.
13:53Stop yelling at me.
13:54How can someone be this fetch?
13:58I love the letters on the side, the stripe down the leggings.
14:00Very nice.
14:01Rings on her finger.
14:03This bling on this woman is unrivaled.
14:07If there was going to be a skin, $30, this is the one to do it, okay?
14:12What a queen.
14:13We stan a queen.
14:14She is the baddest champion in the realm right now.
14:16Or the rift.
14:17Sorry.
14:18And then we got Sienna.
14:20The newest champion to come out.
14:23It's not bad.
14:24It's fine.
14:25It's pretty basic.
14:27I saw this and I was like, you know, I mean, her makeup artist.
14:31I would trust her makeup artist with my life.
14:33But her scarf, I do think stands out well.
14:36The true damage in the belt of her pants, very nice.
14:40I approve.
14:42And then we got some Yasuo.
14:45Yasuo, my guy.
14:47If there was anyone that was going to try to topple Kiana, which no one is, Yasuo is a close second.
14:54Look at this man.
14:55He looks, um, who's Gray-Haired Bookboy from Naruto?
14:59Gray-Haired Bookboy?
15:00Yeah, the one with the one eye.
15:02Or not the one eye.
15:03I don't watch Naruto.
15:04But he's channeling a lot of those vibes.
15:06Same kind of nice jacket.
15:07He has some dubstep woofers on his arm, bro.
15:11And he has his sword stabbed into a turntable.
15:14Are you kidding me?
15:16Easily, well, he's not as good looking.
15:19But this is an awesome fit.
15:22And the earmuffs, I very much dig this.
15:24But also, besides those skins, our queen, Kiana, did get the Louis Vuitton skin.
15:30Or one of them.
15:31And I gotta say, it's looking pretty fetch.
15:34I don't know if I like it as much as True Damage.
15:36But the earrings, awesome.
15:38The crown, literally a queen.
15:41Okay.
15:42Now, the Louis Vuitton along the ring is a nice touch.
15:45I think, you know, diamonds bigger than, like, My Hopes and Dreams is a little bit better.
15:49But having the little logos along the ring, nice.
15:52The top, I like where it cuts off.
15:54The flowiness does, you know, kind of bring out some good looks.
15:58Just pink hair.
15:59But, you know, I think the pink and blue is a little bit cooler.
16:01But I do like the pink.
16:03Her shoes are fetch.
16:05So, I gotta say, out of all these skins, Kiana is, or, yeah, she is off to the races.
16:12You could only dream to be like her.
16:14Okay?
16:15And that is my official fashion corner.
16:18Do you have any questions?
16:19What is the way these things and turns people into weirdest people?
16:22Fetch.
16:25Well, that's gonna be it from the fashion report coming from Jacob Brothers.
16:29We want to thank everybody for joining us on this week's Checkpoint XP on campus.
16:34I want to thank Jacob Brothers and Daniel Agbuya, our hosts, for doing a great job this week.
16:39We also want to thank Ethan Schneider and Kevin Kelly for helping out behind the scenes, as well as everybody behind the scenes at UNLV for doing all the great work that they do in the studio and making the show wonderful.
16:53We also want to thank all the awesome people here in the Detroit studio that help us out as well.
16:59Don't forget, we are here same place, same time, every week, where we're gonna let you know all the cool stuff that's going on in the world of college esports, as well as how you can participate.
17:12So we hope, as a matter of fact, we demand that you come back next week for Checkpoint XP on campus.
17:20Take it easy.
17:21Later, darlings.
17:21Take care of yourself.
