00:00Hey, what's up? It is Babs from Wild 94.1. I'm on the Midday Show, and right now I am interviewing.
00:06I just told her I was nervous as hell, because she's my idol, and this is like my biggest interview that I've ever had.
00:12We got the baddest, and the one. Miss Trina is in the building. What's up, girl?
00:16How are you?
00:17I'm good.
00:18Great, great.
00:19Now, you know what I like about you the most?
00:21I like that you show love to everybody.
00:23Like, even me, when I met you in the airport in North Carolina, my wig was all shit thick.
00:28I was looking homeless. I remember coming up to you. I was like, oh, my God, can I get a Snapchat video?
00:33You was like, yeah. So we did a quick little Snapchat video, and you weren't bougie about it or nothing. I like that.
00:40And then I seen you again when you were with Trick in Fort Myers for the big concert that you guys had.
00:44Uh-huh.
00:45Now, speaking of Trick, I was kind of heartbroken seeing y'all fall out on Love & Hip Hop, but I did hear that you guys got back cool.
00:54Yeah, we always going to be cool. That's my brother, so my family.
00:56Of course, I didn't like that whole episode with us, the way that it was shown or edited or seen or whatever, because a lot of it, you don't get to see exactly what actually is said, what happens.
01:10And so you kind of just see, like, the aftermath of it, the fiery of it.
01:14And a lot of people didn't even understand what got me upset, so upset that me and him had a big old, you know, dispute like that.
01:21Of course, we hashed it out, of course.
01:23When I got back, he called me, and we met up face-to-face, and we had, like, a long conversation.
01:28And I was really bothered by that, because we get into it all the time, but it's in private.
01:34I'm not really the person for the public, all of us.
01:37Right. Just like if you put the camera when me and my sister fight out for the world to see, it would look like, you know.
01:42It would look crazy, right?
01:43Yeah.
01:43So that's how I felt with this.
01:45I felt like this is something that we always, this has been happening for over 20 years, but it's never for the public, because it doesn't need to be for them.
01:53Right.
01:53You know, so I didn't really like how that played out.
01:55And he understood how, why I was upset.
01:57He apologized, and we just moved forward.
02:00You know, that would never happen again, though.
02:02Not between me and him, because I don't, I don't really, that's not our thing.
02:06Now, so it's like you guys are brother and sister.
02:08Y'all always going to fight, but y'all going to come back cool.
02:10Yeah, we always going to have them.
02:11I'm always going to be ready to, like, chew him apart, because he needs to, like, stay in order.
02:15Right.
02:15You know, guys, sometimes they get a little bit crazy, so I'm going to always have to be there to, like, make sure he's, like, you know, not acting up.
02:22Now, did he have any input on the new project?
02:24He didn't.
02:25He didn't hear it.
02:25He didn't know.
02:26He actually called me when it was out and done, whatever.
02:28And he actually was just like, you know, it's a dope project, and he was really proud.
02:33That made me feel good, because he's never going to say that.
02:36Right.
02:36He's never going to, like, be so, well, you know, submissive and just say, hey, I'm happy that you did this body of work, unless he's involved.
02:45Right.
02:45It was a male testimony or something, but for him to say that, it was a good feeling.
02:49I'm definitely loving the one.
02:51Now, one of my favorite songs, you're going to be shocked, is Mama.
02:55That's my favorite song.
02:57Girl, you had me, like, crying my fake eyelashes off, because, you know, my mom just had a stroke, so that song, I was like, oh, my God.
03:07And then I wasn't talking to her for, like, yeah, because we kind of got into it, so I wasn't talking.
03:11I don't want to cry right now, but I wasn't talking to her for, like, two weeks.
03:16And then she had the stroke, and I'm like, oh, and now she can't really speak, but she's getting better.
03:21But I was listening to that song, and I was like, oh, Trina, say it.
03:25Don't ever, like, not talk to your old girl.
03:27Always listen to her.
03:28Never, because you get a lot of different things in life, but you only get one.
03:32Right.
03:32So you could never, you should never be at odds, you know, because I feel like anything can be fixed.
03:38It can be, you know, you can work through it, however that is.
03:42There's no argument worth it, you know.
03:44Right.
03:44There's nothing that's worth being in that type of situation with your mom, because you always want to make sure you have a tight relationship, and, you know, and make sure that that's fixed.
03:53I'm happy that, you know, you fixed that.
03:55That song is a personal song, and it definitely is an endearing song, so if you, you know, if you probably isn't close to your mom, if you probably isn't in that space, that probably would help you get to that space.
04:04Right.
04:04Because it kind of put things into perspective.
04:07Right, and mama definitely knows best, so I have a question.
04:11Did you ever introduce your mom to some of the dudes you named on BAPS, and did she say, uh-uh, I got a bad feeling about him?
04:21All of them, actually.
04:22So she told you to curb them from the beginning.
04:25Well, you know, moms is always the ones that's going to be like, you know, sometimes what you like isn't always what's the best thing for you.
04:33Right.
04:33But, you know, you don't never want to hear that.
04:35That's not really what you want to digest.
04:37Right, exactly.
04:37You always want to feel like you want to have your own mind frame to do things your way, and, you know, you learn the hard way when you do it that way.
04:45Oh, yeah, for sure.
04:46So you just have to put yourself out there if you want to go that route, and then you have to deal with the consequences.
04:50And, of course, I've been in all types of situations, so I know the consequences.
04:54Right.
04:54You know, so moms is a good choice to listen to first off.
04:57The senses is there, you know.
04:59Now, did any of the dudes you named on there, like, French, Tory Lanez, or did they hit you up, like, damn, Trina, why you do me like that?
05:07Why you had to name me on that?
05:10No, I mean, I hear little stuff, you know, how they, you know, squeaking and saying, but it wasn't like a thing like that.
05:16And, and, and Tory and I are cool, so it's not, it wasn't a situation, like, a dating thing between us.
05:21It was one of those things, like, you just curve the situation before it even start happening.
05:25Right.
05:25So, you know, it was kind of, like, funny, you know, to him.
05:28It wasn't, to everybody else, I don't really know, because they can't really call me, but it's, it wasn't nothing to call about.
05:33Like, I just said what I said, and it's not a fact, it's not, like, a fictional thing, it's the truth, so it wasn't, it's nothing to call and say.
05:40It was just, you know, it's no disrespect, but it is what it is.
05:44And you actually, you did a show with French, right?
05:46Uh-huh, in Miami.
05:47Okay.
05:48The Bad Boy Tour.
05:49So you could separate work with, like, personal life.
05:52Of course.
05:52Get that back.
05:53That's a different situation, and I don't have a problem with French at all.
05:58I actually, he actually called me to do that concert for the Bad Boy Tour.
06:03And it's Miami, it's my city, it's one of the biggest tours that's out.
06:06Of course I'm going to hit the stage.
06:07Right.
06:07And of course I'm going to put on for my city and do what I need to do.
06:10Right, exactly.
06:11You know, it's not no bad blood or anything.
06:13I like that song you got on there with Wayne, too.
06:15Situation, that's one of my favorites, another song that's great.
06:18And I like the fact that you and him are still cool.
06:20Wayne and I are, have always been cool.
06:24But you guys didn't have a bad breakup.
06:25We didn't have a bad nothing.
06:26Okay.
06:26There was no reason for nothing.
06:28You know, just two people that's young and things just go separate.
06:31And you grow and you understand that.
06:33You know, it's not like, oh my gosh, I don't like you.
06:35I hate you because it didn't work out.
06:36No, never that.
06:37Right.
06:38It's more so like, you know, as a young, you know, as young people.
06:41When you're trying to just maneuver through life and you have different stops.
06:44And when it doesn't work out, you have to just be grown and mature enough to just move on.
06:48You know, and that was our situation.
06:50It was never no disrespect.
06:51It was never a bad anything.
06:52It was just like young, evolving.
06:54And when you grow, you just grow in different spaces.
06:56And you need to do things that you need to do for your life.
06:58And I'm going to go this way and do what I need to do for my life.
07:00Right.
07:00I feel that.
07:01Now, you know what else I like about you?
07:03You always show love to young girls.
07:05I see my girl Susie Soprano from FOMAS, Detroit in the crowd.
07:09Yes, yes.
07:09And then you got Miley Brazy and Tokyo Jets on the album.
07:14I love them.
07:15Miley, especially as my little baby, Tokyo.
07:18I worked with them already previous, so it was easy to like, you know, involve them in my project.
07:24I just wanted to put them on something I had already did because I had did the remix to the record before it got on the album.
07:30Right.
07:30You know, just to put them on it.
07:31And just all the girls that's out in general, I love to just see what I'm happy that there are so many new girls.
07:39Right.
07:39Because for a minute, it was just, it was just like a drought.
07:45It was, it was just like, it was kind of spaced and flat.
07:49And it was always more guys anyway than girls in the industry, period.
07:53Right.
07:53So, when you started getting all these different girls that started coming out, I started seeing them pop up.
07:59I started being interested.
08:00Like, oh, who's that?
08:01Who's that?
08:01Oh, she's dope.
08:02And it's different sounds, different things.
08:04You know, they're all young.
08:04They're all doing their thing from all over everywhere.
08:06And I started paying attention.
08:08Like, whoa, realistically, unsigned and signed, there's so many girls that's out here that's big on the internet or that's out here just bubbling, doing their thing.
08:15And some of them are not even known.
08:17Like, people don't even, you know, don't even know who they are.
08:19Or if you jump into that wave of it, then you kind of, you know, you'll be able to see them being, to see what you're on.
08:24Now, even though you show love to all of them, do you have, like, a top five who are really, like, the new girls that are popping right now?
08:31I don't like to do the top five thing because, you know what, one time I did that and some, many people got mad.
08:35Right.
08:35So, I just like all, like, when you say the new girls is just out, just, yeah, I have the ones that I'm associated with, that I like.
08:44Like, you know, you got the city girls, you got Meg, you got Sweetie, you got Cash Doll.
08:49Yes, Cash Doll.
08:51You have, like, I mean, just Mulatto.
08:53You have, again, Tokyo Jess, you have Molly Brazy.
08:56You have all these girls that just are out, even much back in Miami, like, there's Breonna Perry, there's some other girls, there's her brand.
09:03There's just different girls that are just out here doing their thing.
09:05I mean, even Susie, you know, like, I just picked up to her, her style, and that's what made her so unique and dope to me.
09:12When I find somebody that I just feel like they're doing their own thing and they're in their own way, chameleon, I love.
09:17These girls are just out here on the internet and they're just, like, a whole wave in itself.
09:21Right.
09:21You know what I mean?
09:22And I just love that.
09:23I love that everybody is significantly doing their own different thing.
09:27And like you said, they're out here having fun, getting their back.
09:30No one's saying that I'm out here to be the next, like, Kendrick Lamar.
09:33Nobody cares.
09:34Everybody is just out here living a dream that they happily, I feel like, that they're happily involved in right now.
09:42Some of them wasn't rappers and artists two, three years ago or four years ago.
09:45And I think they're in a place, they're grown, and they're over 21.
09:48And they're making money, they're performing, they're looking beautiful, making videos, linking up, just doing stuff that young girls want to do.
09:56You know?
09:57And that's what you should be doing in your life, especially if you have an opportunity to do a career.
10:01Right, exactly.
10:01And now you're having fun.
10:02You're traveling all over the world.
10:03Some of these girls, people that come, you go up from the hood, the inner cities, everywhere.
10:07Like, I'm looking at them, they're flying to the U.K., they're in Germany, they're everywhere.
10:11They're working.
10:12And that's like a dream come true, especially where you come from.
10:15You probably never think to imagine, I'm going to get to these places.
10:17And now that you are, voila.
10:20Exactly.
10:21You know?
10:21And I like how you stood up for the girls, referring to Jermaine Dupri's comments that he had.
10:27And you see he's trying to do a cipher now.
10:29I don't think really, I don't think J.D., well, when I heard it, I think the question, I think, because what, I think the question was, you know, how do you feel about the new girls that's in the game?
10:38Right.
10:39And I think what he said was, well, I don't think he answered the question directly to what was asked.
10:45Right.
10:45And so I think it threw the whole internet off when he said, you know, he don't see no best rappers, they're all the same.
10:52I don't really, that wasn't the question.
10:53No, and then he said something about, like, they're all strippers.
10:56No, it sounds like stripping rappers.
10:58Yeah.
10:58I don't even know a bunch of stuff that just didn't really kind of make sense to me.
11:01I just felt like, you know, J.D.'s a smart guy.
11:05You know, he's put on for decades for an entire culture of music.
11:12And Atlanta being one of the biggest places where music is at with some of the biggest artists.
11:16So, therefore, I just feel like, yes, when you hear music or you hear girls and you hear stuff that sounds similar, everybody has similarities.
11:24Everybody has a similar concept or story, similar struggle, come from the hood, come from the projects, came up struggling.
11:31Didn't have this.
11:32Mama said, no, I didn't have the New George's or whatever.
11:35Or you're in a club, you're in a stripping life.
11:37You may not, you're not necessarily going to have to be a stripper, but you go to the strip clubs with your friend.
11:41You hang out.
11:41You're in a, it doesn't have to be a strip club, a regular club.
11:44You're hanging out with your girls.
11:45These are, this is the stuff that happens in life.
11:47Like, you're in a club, you're over 21, you're drinking, you're partying with your girls.
11:49It's the weekend, you want to hang out.
11:51Same thing.
11:52Guys, what do you guys talk about?
11:54The trap.
11:55Girls, drugs, blah, blah.
11:56It's the same thing.
11:57Like, girls' lifestyle is a little bit more different because they come up in a little bit more, you know, a little bit more of ambiance.
12:03Like, fun stuff, girly stuff, like, whatever.
12:05Guys, same thing.
12:06So, you're going from girls that's in the street life clubs, strip clubs, whatever, to guys talking about trapping or whatever.
12:11What's the difference?
12:12Exactly.
12:12You're talking about what you see, what you endure, what you came from, the stuff that's around you.
12:16I don't care who it is.
12:17When you start off doing music, your first concept is the things that you see around you.
12:22Exactly.
12:22If you grew up in a struggling home and your mama lights was out, you may put that in a song because that's real facts to you.
12:27Right.
12:28So, I feel like I don't really think it's a big deal of, like, you know, and we have girls that don't talk about that.
12:35Like, sexuality and, you know, all this over-vein and glammed-up stuff, but these girls, you really are not trying to heal.
12:42You don't really give the platform an opportunity.
12:43Right.
12:44They peep up every now and then, and you see when somebody's, like, put you on, and you're like, oh, I never heard of her, or, oh, I mean, let me pay attention to her music.
12:51And the girls that do speak about stuff that's not just in a sensual context, even myself included, some records that are like that, people really don't gravitate as much to.
13:05They don't care to hear.
13:05Like, they don't really, they don't really want to hear me talking about being on the beach on a regular Saturday.
13:10Right.
13:10They prefer to be talking about curving this dude, getting your bag up, talking about this, going shopping, swerving.
13:16This is what we are, we're in the state of, we're in the genre, we're having fun with it.
13:21It's not, it's not like, okay, you're just going to say every person is the same and they're talking about the same, because even though it sounds the same, I'm listening to the music and I hear so much different stuff out of the music.
13:30Oh, yeah, absolutely.
13:31Just like on your album, like, Mama was one of my favorite songs.
13:34That's not talking about anything that's sexual whatsoever.
13:36Nope, exactly.
13:36Anything that has anything to do with my body parts, how I look, nothing whatsoever.
13:40But people, sometimes you don't, they pick and choose and you don't really pay, you have to pay attention to the body of art.
13:45You have to pay attention to what people are talking about in an overall aspect, not just one record or not just one record that may be strictly about, you know, booty music or turking in a club and getting money.
13:55Like, you got to pay attention to this artist before you can understand, like, you know, what it is about them.
14:01Right, exactly.
14:02And I think people don't like to do that, you know.
14:04Now, speaking of the city girls, do you talk to Carisha a lot?
14:07Do you give her advice in different?
14:09I do.
14:09I give a lot of advice as much as I could.
14:12You know, she's a smart girl, you know.
14:13She's young, this is all new for her, so it's exciting and it's fun, but it's also a lot of, just the internet, it's a lot of negative, annoying people that are just goofy sometimes.
14:24So, I just try to tell her to, like, ignore most of that, stay focused.
14:30Right.
14:31So, this is a career that, it chose you.
14:37You came in having a good time, you came in having fun, you was not out here your whole entire life shopping a demo to do this, so it kind of happened for you guys.
14:44And that's the most amazing, beautiful, organic thing about it.
14:48Exactly.
14:48So, you can make it however you want to make it.
14:49That's the same exact thing for me.
14:51And when it happened for them, it reminded me of me all over again in 1998 with Trig and Nan.
14:55It was just, and it happened, and once something happened like that, it's, nothing is not going to just happen for no reason it's meant to be.
15:01Like, you take it and you run with it, and you build yourself, build your name, your brand, your consistency, your creative, everything about you and your career, you have to now start building that, you know.
15:12And I tell her that, like, she's not a new person that's new to, and oblivious to all of this, you know.
15:17Right.
15:17She's already come from a certain lifestyle.
15:19She's already been, like, a girl that's doing her own thing, owning a boutique, you know.
15:23She already had a kid, she's already a mom.
15:25She's already had some of the fundamental things in life that already makes this journey a little bit easier, you know.
15:31It's just being focused, really focused, because it's a big industry.
15:35Oh, absolutely.
15:36And she had a lot of weight on her shoulders, especially when JT went away.
15:40Of course.
15:41And she's done a great job holding it down.
15:42She's holding it down like a true champion, and that's not easy to do.
15:46And you've got to commend her for that, because, I mean, you've seen groups before, guys, girls, whoever.
15:51Some guys couldn't even hold it down like that to their group.
15:53Yeah.
15:54So you've got to give her a little bit more extra credit for that, and that's not easy, because she's taking all the weight for her partner, for herself, for the whole entire group.
16:01Everything falls on her.
16:02Oh, yeah.
16:03And, you know, but, I mean, I'm proud of her, you know.
16:06I continue to wish her the best success, and everything that's for her, I know it's going to be for her.
16:11And JT will be home soon, so the whole thing of it'll be back as one, and, you know, they'll be rocking all over again.
16:19Now, you know what's funny?
16:20It's something I've been seeing on social media, the whole, like, City Boys up 500 points, you know, City Girls down 20.
16:28Like, City Boys is just me, well, you're just a dude out here wilding out and laughing a fool.
16:33That's what I think it means, and Tom G, he's cool.
16:37He's a rapper from Tampa, and he has a song out called City Boys.
16:40Okay.
16:41Now, I had seen something where Lil Duval was talking about getting on a remix.
16:45Okay.
16:45So, they was going to get on a remix together, so.
16:49City Boys, I don't know, I'm not really clear, but I just think my perspective is just me, like, these guys are wilding.
16:55Right.
16:55You're acting up.
16:56I mean, your dude is acting up, and you've got to check him, you need to put him in place, because he's out here just showing out.
17:00That's what it is.
17:01Could you still be a City Boy and be in a relationship?
17:04Like, you know, like, you could be.
17:05No, no.
17:06If you're City Boy, you're wilding.
17:07You're wilding.
17:08And that means your girl is out here losing it, like, checking you probably in your DMs, probably, like, trying to bop you upside your head, because you're acting a fool.
17:16Like, you're probably in the strip club throwing mad ones, faces all down, and the girls, but, like, you're just wilding out out here.
17:21That means, no, I don't think, if you want to be a City Boy for the summer or whatever, you don't need to be in a relationship, because that's going to cause you some trouble.
17:28City Boys down a thousand points after this interview.
17:30City Boys is all the way down, all the way.
17:34Now, I heard Khaled on the beginning of the album.
17:36He is so motivational, like.
17:38Yes, I've been with Khaled my whole entire career, like, everything.
17:41He's always been like that.
17:42You know, he's always had that voice, this big voice, and the talking, do his whole thing.
17:46And it's always good when I connect with him.
17:48I mean, I just had said, hey, I'm doing my album, I just want you to talk.
17:51I said, I just want you on the intro, just say some stuff, and that was it.
17:54It was done.
17:55It was lit.
17:55The intro was lit.
17:56Done.
17:57The one, you collaborated with a lot of people on that.
18:01Yes.
18:01Nicki Minaj, Wayne.
18:032 Chainz.
18:042 Chainz.
18:052 Chainz.
18:052 Chainz.
18:05Kelly Price.
18:06Miss Kelly Price.
18:07I keep calling her Miss Kelly Price, yes.
18:09Who else?
18:10K. Michelle.
18:11Yes.
18:12Rico Love.
18:13Rico Love actually co-produced most of the album, which is one of my favorite people.
18:17Light Skin Keisha.
18:18Light Skin Keisha, I love.
18:19She's amazing.
18:20Such a fun, great energy.
18:22Now, that song, I was like, okay, girl.
18:24On his face.
18:25That was one of the last songs, kind of, for the album.
18:26That was just something, actually, when I was in the studio, I was doing some other
18:30music for some other projects, and the producer actually just played this record, and I was
18:36just like, what's that?
18:38Right.
18:38And then I heard him, and I was like, okay, and I actually just did the song that same
18:42night, and I was like, dang, but this is like, I'm trying to feel the tempo, it's trying
18:46to feel like who it is, and I instantly just hit up Keisha and was like, hey, I just want
18:49you to get on this record now.
18:50Right.
18:51She was like, send the record over, and she sent it right back, like, two days, and I was
18:54back in the studio, and then I added it to the album.
18:56Okay.
18:57That's how that happened.
18:57I like it.
18:58I like it.
18:59Yes.
18:59Now, you got any, you want to do more projects in the future?
19:02Are you going back on Love & Hip Hop?
19:04We'll see.
19:06We need you on there.
19:07Love & Hip Hop is, really, it's cool, you know, it's not, because I'm not really the
19:10person with the extra drama.
19:11Like, I just have a platform, you know, I have my label, Rockstar Music Group, and the
19:15biggest thing for me is to help the artists get on and get their situations good and get
19:19their music out there and become the biggest artists that they can be.
19:21Right.
19:21I use that platform to help motivate and help push for that.
19:25So, we'll see what happens.
19:26You know, season three is being all shaken up.
19:28Everybody's so all excited or tense because of the reunion.
19:32So, we'll see what happens.
19:33Well, I love you so much.
19:35My nerves started to, like, ease off a little bit more.
19:37Better, right?
19:37Yeah.
19:38More relaxed, more easy.
19:40See?
19:41I like that.
19:41Yes!
19:42So, if you're in the city, make sure you come through, come see me, check me out.
19:45If you don't have the one, then you're missing a summer.
19:47You should just get the one, download it, stream it.
19:50It's a beautiful album, body of work, some amazing features.
19:53I'm shooting videos for the rest of the songs on the album, so stay tuned.
19:56And I love how you always have your man by your side.
19:58I like y'all relationship, by the way.
20:00You do?
20:00Yeah.
20:00I do.
20:01I do, too.
20:03He's not a city boy at all.
20:05You can see that, for sure, right?
20:06Yeah, for sure.
20:07All right, thank you so much, Trina.
20:08Thank you so much.
20:09I appreciate you.
20:10I appreciate you, too.
