00:00Q105, now I know you've been waiting all weekend for this, and this is the wacky news stories of the afternoon.
00:06Usually Mondays are really good, Kathy, because we get all the knuckleheads from over the weekend.
00:10We get some good stories from the weekends.
00:12Yes, we do. And here at 525, we've got them for you.
00:15Yes. Unfortunately, I think we all saw this story coming.
00:1928-year-old Jessica Patterson was out driving near the town of Pickens in South Carolina last week
00:24when she caught the attention of police because the plates on her car had been reported stolen.
00:29Well, Jessica freaked out when she saw the cops and started leading them on a high-speed chase.
00:35However, that was not the smart move because since she had several containers of hoarded gasoline in her trunk,
00:41she at some point during the chase lost control of her car, ran off the road, and flipped the car upside down.
00:49The car immediately caught on fire, and multiple explosions were heard inside of the car.
00:54Luckily, she was able to get out despite being on fire.
00:57The police put out the flames, got her to the hospital.
01:00She was badly burned but survived, and it's not clear on what kind of charges she's facing yet.
01:06So sad.
01:06You're right. You knew this was going to happen.
01:08You've seen all those viral photos.
01:10All the pictures of people hoarding gas in their...
01:13In too many gas cans.
01:15You've seen cars that burned to the ground.
01:18Yeah.
01:18All of this.
01:19Stop that stuff.
01:20It's dumb.
01:21This is not toilet paper and paper towels, folks.
01:24It's flammable.
01:25Don't hoard that either.
01:27Okay.
01:27What do you got?
01:28These days, you've got to figure a guy who's making money and still stay in business in a video rental store has got to be up to something.
01:38Yeah.
01:39I haven't been to one of those in years.
01:40Well, most people haven't.
01:42Right.
01:42And they were wondering how this old boy just kept doing this.
01:45So they've been watching him for about a year until they finally could pin him down as to exactly how he was keeping his place called Adopt-A-Video outside of Boston up and running.
02:00Well, it appears that he had different 26 different people working for him.
02:08So what do you think they were doing?
02:10Oh, no, they weren't working in his video store.
02:12There was nothing going on in the video store.
02:14These folks were regularly going out and stealing stuff from stores like Walmart, Target, Home Depot, CVS, bringing them to him.
02:24He was giving them a little bit of money, and he was reselling all of this stuff on eBay.
02:31They say he's made probably close to a million dollars in profit reselling all of this stolen merchandise.
02:39When they finally busted his home and business, they found over 5,000 items there that were worth more than about a half a million bucks.
02:47This guy was on it.
02:48Wow.
02:49That's crazy.
02:50You talk about an organized crime ring.
02:52He put it together, and it was all because he thought it would be really cool to run a video rental shop.
02:59Because these days, you can't make money on a video rental shop.
03:02No, not at all.
03:03No, because they're all on TV.
03:04Yeah.
03:04Yeah.
03:04Yeah.
03:05Yeah.
03:05Yeah.
