00:00Wild 94.1, the base party station, it is Babs, and yes, my girl crush is in the building.
00:06Doja Cat, what up girl?
00:08Thank you, yeah. I've only been here like once before, and it's cool here, but it's also way too hot.
00:15It is hot, hot as hell.
00:17Well, I got you a gift. I know your birthday was last week.
00:20Yeah, oh, wow, thank you.
00:23Girl, I was looking at that.
00:25I was looking at this, and I said, I'm hungry. Do you have any leftover Chick-fil-A?
00:32And she hands me a card, a whole gift, $10?
00:36Yes, I work in radio, so $10 is all I could afford.
00:39Banking. I'm banking. Thank you.
00:42Now, you know why I got you that? Because I saw that interview where you said, they were like, girl, how you keep that thing juicy?
00:47And you was like, I eat lots of Chick-fil-A, lots of stone crab.
00:52Yeah, lots of lobster, yeah.
00:54Now, how'd you come up with the concept for that song?
00:59So, with Juicy, I mean, this happens all the time. I think I have like a curse where I just like to write about body parts, like boobies and butts.
01:10Tia and Tamera. That's my song, because I don't have no ass, but the Tia and Tamera song that you did, I felt that. That was for me.
01:16Like, that was for you. Like, it was for everybody, really.
01:20Like, I just tend to just write about that type of stuff, and it's never like a political decision.
01:28I don't like kind of sit there and try to like change the world significantly by writing about bodies.
01:34Right.
01:34Like, there's a lot of really cool comments, too, that people, you know, will tell me like, hey, you like helped me like get through this or feel better about myself, which is cool.
01:43Body positivity.
01:44Yeah.
01:45Now, when you first came out, like, I, you know, just seeing the videos that you made when you first came out, and then seeing Juicy, I was like, damn, I didn't know she had a dunk back there.
01:56Did you shock a lot of people with that? Were they like, damn, girl?
01:58I think that I'm just like gaining weight slowly, like, to be completely honest with you.
02:03Like, I just, I don't have time to eat salads.
02:06Like, I need food or else I'm going to be exhausted.
02:09So, lately, I've just been like, I just eat whatever I want, and I guess like, I've been doing this for maybe like seven years now.
02:18Right.
02:19So, yeah, my body's changed over the last couple of years.
02:24So, I, yeah, I've always had a booty.
02:28Like, I've always been, always been teased.
02:31Like, sixth grade, like, I wore yoga pants, and like, it was a wrap for me since then.
02:36Why?
02:37Because people would just be talking about my butt all day.
02:40Yeah, but that's, that's a compliment if somebody told me my booty looked big.
02:44I mean, it's, it feels, honestly, it feels like degrading, and it's like annoying.
02:49I mean, I'm going to be honest, I'm just going to be wrong.
02:50I'm so sorry, so did I just annoy you?
02:52No, not at all, no.
02:54No, I'm just being honest.
02:56Like, that's, it's, it's like when people are like grabbing at you, and like, you're like, oh my God.
03:02But it's like, sometimes it's just like, all right, I mean, it's cool.
03:07Thank you, I'm flattered.
03:08But then it's like, I've always had that, so it's just kind of, it's like old at this point.
03:13But you're thinking all the right places.
03:16Now, when you were in high school, is that when you came out with the song Moo, or was it after?
03:22Moo was maybe, I think it's exactly like a year old.
03:26Oh, okay.
03:27Yeah, something like that.
03:29So, when did you write that song?
03:32I wrote that like a year ago.
03:37I was in my bed, and I was just on live like any other day, because I used to go on live a lot and make songs.
03:45And I used to just like, do normal, like regular music pretty much every day.
03:57And for some reason this day, like I just, I had on this costume, it was like a cow print, like skirt, tube set, whatever, with like horns in my hair.
04:07And I was like, you know, like I kept on, I couldn't help it, I just kept on saying like, I'm a cow, I'm a cow.
04:14And people were like, just run with that.
04:16And I'm like, no, like why would I do that?
04:20And then, so then I just, yeah, I just like ran with it.
04:25And it turned out to be a hit.
04:27Yeah.
04:27Now you got people, I saw my girl Brittany down there, she had on her cow hat.
04:32So I'm sure people be at your shows with cow stuff on.
04:35Yeah, all the time, all the time.
04:36Has Chick-fil-A like reached out to you and asked you to, no, no, no, but also they're like very uptight.
04:44So it's kind of, you know what I mean?
04:46Like their commercials are kind of funny, but then they're just, their whole, yeah, their whole background is sort of uptight.
04:55So it's like, I don't even think they'd want people cursing and like the whole Christian thing.
05:00I don't even know if they'd want that on their platform.
05:03Right.
05:04Now they got Kanye though.
05:05And he's still cussing.
05:06Do they have Kanye on?
05:08No, no.
05:08Chick-fil-A doesn't, but the Christians got Kanye.
05:10Oh yeah.
05:12Very true.
05:13Very true.
05:14Now, who are some people that you want to work with coming up?
05:16Like I know for a while you were keeping your album release date secret and private, but it's coming out November 7th, right?
05:24Yeah.
05:24November 7th.
05:25Hot pink.
05:26Now, can you tell us about the other features that you have on there or?
05:30I have two features.
05:31Okay.
05:32But that's all I can tell you.
05:34So one is Tyga, of course.
05:36Yeah.
05:37No, actually, I guess three then, but two new ones.
05:39Yeah.
05:41Two new features.
05:43I see you like to work with female rappers in the game, like Rico Nasty.
05:48Right.
05:48And you was just on the show with other girls.
05:50Like, is there any upcoming projects that you have where you want to work with like a cash doll or a girl that's coming up in the game?
05:57I love cash doll as a person.
05:59Just want to put that out there.
06:00She's like so fire.
06:01Like, I met her the other day and I tried to like find her at another place that I was performing, I think, for Tidal just the other day and she was there.
06:11Or I think that was something else.
06:12I don't know.
06:13She's fire.
06:14But anyway, that was just a fun fact.
06:16I'm down to work with Meg.
06:19I'm down to work with Cash.
06:20I'm down to work with most people.
06:24It's just, it depends on the song.
06:25And sometimes it's hard and people back out of stuff because there's, you know, either not enough time or like things like that.
06:32I was supposed to have more features actually on this album, but because people are so busy, it doesn't work out.
06:39But no forced collaborations either.
06:41Right.
06:41The vibe has to be all the way.
06:43Right.
06:43No.
06:43Yeah.
06:44No forced.
06:44No forced ones.
06:47I mean, even if there was, I don't know if I could be, I could tell you that.
06:52But, yeah, I mean, yeah, I worked with Tyga and he was really, really easy to work with.
07:02He's also like a chameleon.
07:04Like, he's really good at like getting on everything.
07:07Like, he can get on like something that's more dark and like a harder sounding type beat.
07:13But Juicy had that kind of like girliness to it, that pop thing about it.
07:18And he just, he killed it immediately.
07:20Like, we told him to get on it day of.
07:23He like sent us, like hours later, sent us the feature and then we just locked it in.
07:28Yes.
07:29So, your album is dropping during cussing season.
07:32Yeah.
07:33How do you feel?
07:34Like, you know, do you make time for your man?
07:37Like, do you have time for him?
07:39Is he like supportive of you?
07:40Like, always on the road?
07:42Yeah.
07:43Yeah.
07:43He tours too.
07:44So, it's hard.
07:46And sometimes we'll have like weeks away from each other.
07:50But we do try to make time.
07:52Like, we fight for it.
07:53And we definitely, yeah, see each other.
07:57Now, I'm a part of Team Swirl too.
07:59And I was like offended that people were getting on you because you date someone of the opposite race.
08:04But it's like your mom is of the opposite race.
08:07So, like why would we?
08:07That doesn't even matter.
08:08Right.
08:08That doesn't even matter.
08:10The fact that my mom's white, like, who cares?
08:12Right.
08:12Like, you know what I mean?
08:13It's like, it doesn't matter what people's skin color is.
08:17Right.
08:17I can't believe that we still deal with that.
08:20Now, were you getting, like, was it a lot of hate when people found that out?
08:23Um, there was just a moment, like one moment where it was very, you know, prominent.
08:30But it sort of fizzled away.
08:33Good.
08:34It's not, but also it's like Twitter's awful.
08:37And it's always been awful.
08:38Like, it's always been a mess.
08:41Uh, and there's really bad people on it.
08:43And, and, uh, you know, and it just happens.
08:47It's like, if I go on Twitter and I look at that and I scroll through it and I see something
08:51that upsets me, I kind of put myself in that position to, to upset myself.
08:56Cause it's like, I know Twitter.
08:57Right.
08:58You know what I mean?
08:59And Instagram too.
09:00Uh, but it's whatever.
09:02There's people who just don't know, you know, social things that are.
09:07And you're a fun person.
09:09Like, I feel like I want to be like you to where I can make fun of something and give
09:14like zero fucks about what people say.
09:16Like trolling is your thing.
09:18Like I appreciate the way, you know, you talk about certain issues.
09:21And even when you did that whole Cardi B thing, like I knew you were joking, but people took
09:26it to heart.
09:28And yeah, because rap is like a sport and it's like anything that sort of demeans it
09:34or gets in the way of not gets in the way, but you know what I mean?
09:38It's like anything that may seem even a little bit, a hint, like it's, it's testing something
09:45like that's just how fan bases are.
09:48They just like, they want to stand up for what they love.
09:51And I, I think that's awesome.
09:54I have a fan base just like that.
09:56And they're called the cats that I don't, I don't name them.
09:58They kind of named themselves.
10:00I really don't know what I'd call them.
10:02So now you have spoken to Cardi B, so all of that is squash, right?
10:06You guys are cool.
10:07Like she understood.
10:08Uh, yeah.
10:09Yeah.
10:10We spoke.
10:11She's, she's incredible.
10:12She's so sweet.
10:13Well, I hope to see you guys like on a collaboration soon.
10:16Yeah, absolutely.
10:17Doja Cat.
10:18So what you got coming up besides the album?
10:20Like you going to be in any movies?
10:22Um, not any acting roles that I know of as of yet.
10:27Uh, but I'm definitely into that sort of thing.
10:30Uh, I have my album coming out.
10:32I have a tour that we're trying to plan around that.
10:35Um, I have, I have a lot of visual like video content coming out as well.
10:43Yes.
10:44Like that rules.
10:45Oh, girl.
10:46Rules just dropped.
10:47Was that a real snake?
10:48That was a real snake.
10:50That was a whole python with, yup, with the tongue and the eyes and the everything.
10:56And then, yup.
10:57Were you not scared?
10:58Or you, you've always been like.
11:00No, I love animals.
11:02Okay.
11:02I was trying to make the snake feel good.
11:04I was trying to make sure the snake was cool.
11:07Cause it's like the snake, it's like if you, cause it really just thinks you're like a tree.
11:11Right.
11:12Or like anything.
11:13Like you could be anything to it until you move too fast.
11:16And that's when it wants to eat you.
11:18Cause it's, you look like a, you know, like a mountain.
11:21You could be anything to it until you do something wrong.
11:24Uh, it was very heavy.
11:26It was maybe like 70, 80 pounds.
11:29How many times did you have to do that shot?
11:31Was it like, uh, one take Jake?
11:34Or did you have to like keep doing it?
11:35There was a couple.
11:35I think we, we did.
11:37So I'm laying there and the snake's on me and the guy is sort of positioning it with a stick.
11:43Has like a hook thing for it.
11:44Um, and I did maybe like five, five or six run-throughs of the song with the snake on me.
11:53Uh, but yeah.
11:54And honestly, it was kind of nice.
11:55It was like smooth and like, it was nice.
11:58Yes.
11:58It was so bad.
12:00Well, I think you're a dope actress.
12:01I love the videos that you put out.
12:03A dope singer, a dope rapper.
12:05And I'm excited to see like what's to come.
12:07Thank you so much.
12:08Now, where can everybody find you at?
12:09You can find me on Twitter and Instagram at Doja Cat.
12:12D-O-J-A-C-A-T.
12:14Now, even though it was just your birthday, you brought me some gifts too.
12:17Yes, I did.
12:19Yes.
12:20A watermelon.
12:21What would you call this?
12:22A purse?
12:22A makeup bag?
12:23It could be really anything.
12:24I need one of those.
12:26This like isn't, I'm going to be honest, this is not my idea and I need one of those bags.
12:30So.
12:31With November 7th, your album is dropping.
12:34We are so excited.
12:35Thank you so much for coming and turning up with us in a bag.
12:38Of course.
