00:00Police believe the body they found inside a burnt-out car is that of a 45-year-old mother
00:07who was kidnapped in front of her two young children last night. Firefighters were called
00:11here to Welfare Street in Beverly Hills around half past 11, following reports a car was well
00:17alight. Crews worked to extinguish the blaze before finding the woman's body inside. An hour earlier,
00:23one of the woman's sons, a 15-year-old, told officers he saw his mother be forced into a
00:28nearby waiting SUV, and before that, his eight-year-old brother was assaulted by five balaclava-clad
00:35men, one carrying a firearm with a baseball bat. He has since been taken to hospital and remains
00:41in an induced coma in the intensive care unit after suffering severe head injuries. That 15-year-old
00:47boy was also treated by paramedics and taken to hospital for further treatment. Now, police have
00:52described this attack as horrendous and vicious. Take a listen to what they had to say.
00:57I can only imagine what those children went through, seeing that their mother dragged out
01:02of the home, forced into the back of a car. For an eight-year-old and a 15-year-old, what
01:08that will do to them, I can only imagine. But like I said, we are going to put all the support
01:14we can around them, and they are our main focus. And yes, this level of violence is horrendous,
01:20it is confronting, but we are going to do our best day in, day out to bring these people
01:27to justice. Police say the investigation still remains
01:30in its early stages, so it's unclear what the motive may be, but they have not yet ruled
01:34out links to gang-related crime. Much of the street here remains cordoned off as detectives
01:40as we continue to scour for evidence.
