A St George Day Parade and fete was held, organised by the peope behind the very successful annual Great Wyrley Carnival.

00:00Hello madam, what's your name? I'm Pauline Kelsey, Secretary of the Great Whirly Carnival Committee.
00:06We've got a bit of a special event today, what's been happening?
00:09Yes, this is to celebrate St George who is a painter's name of England.
00:14We have a walking procession in Great Whirly and now we have the fates on Harrison's Field, Harrison Sports and Social Club in Great Whirly.
00:37And you have a lot of good community events don't you in Great Whirly, it is a proper community.
00:43We really do, yes. Great Whirly Carnival is on the last Saturday in June, the 28th of June and that will be held down on the Starfield.
00:52It's a big event that isn't it, you get a big numbers.
00:55We only have about 50 stores, we have a lorry float procession and we have the falconry display this year in the arena.
01:06And we have food stores, charity stores, trade stores, bouncy castles and Dobson's Fun Fair is on the field also.
01:17And I saw a couple of awards being given out to two children, what was that all about earlier?
01:21Yes, we have a selection process where two children are chosen, one for St George and his English Rose, Freddie Whittaker and Mia Forester.
01:34Yeah.
01:35And they are presented with a trophy, £25 and they ride around on the lorry float in the procession.
01:43They are chosen on their merit of how they have done in the community and at school and stuff like that aren't they?
01:48They are chosen on their community involvement, often they help with the Carnival Committee but their involvement at school as well and they are chosen by an independent selection panel.
