00:00...to be in the mix, Supercross back in New Jersey, 4.50 main time, Sexton got a good one, he's on the inside, the Philadelphia winner gets the whole shot, Webb's going with him, oh that was a good pass by Cooper Webb, if he's able to fend off the 12 of McElrath, he'll be in a great spot.
00:24Webb said last week, after he had to watch Sexton beat him across the line, I'll come back and I'll get the business done next week, so we've got the top two in the championship in the top two positions.
00:38He did say that, like he got the easy part done, and that's talking about it, now it's go time, oh I love it, getting down to the wire for the championship, and the top two in the points find each other, running one and two.
00:56Sexton, rock solid through the whoops, for the first two passages.
01:09What's the chase going to be like, from Cooper Webb, as he's distanced himself already from McElrath, Plessinger runs in fourth, Justin Cooper then Joey Sovacci early on.
01:20I believe if you're the number four, you've got to put in some quick laps here, lean on that speed, you've had a speed advantage over Cooper Webb all season long, and keep it upright, and it is yours.
01:32Sexton said last week, after winning in Philadelphia, I have to keep winning out, I've just got to win all the way home, to give myself a chance.
01:44If you win a main event, you get 25 points, second pays 22, so if you can nil three more away, it'll be a single digit difference, heading to Pittsburgh next week, but we've got a lot of work, and a lot of laps, and a lot of jumps to get through yet.
02:00Justin Barsha aboard, that rock star Gas Gas.
02:05Looking at the timing and scoring, and section times, and Chase Sexton is absolutely crushing the whoops section compared to Cooper Webb.
02:17Coops still able to keep him close, despite the loss in the whoops.
02:21Now, I do feel like the whoops will play into Coops' favor later on this race, as they get a little bit more beat down and become jumpers, but right now, you watch just how fast Chase gets through the first section and second section of whoops.
02:36Let's show you how Justin Barsha found his way into third place, because he, and Plessinger, and Cooper have got by Shane McElrath.
02:45Inside move.
02:47Yeah, gives him a little elbow grease.
02:49These guys are battling it out in the heat race.
02:53Just barely touched him.
02:56Put McElrath right off the track.
02:58That's the bread and butter right there for Justin Barsha.
03:02He's got a sniff of that inside line and a move.
03:05He's going to take it.
03:06Yeah, and he's fighting with an injury, too, on that finger.
03:09So, great ride.
03:10That's why he's got those handguards on.
03:12Talked about the handguards with Nate Thrasher in the 250.
03:15Give you a little more protection from the rocks on the track.
03:17Well, we weren't here last year.
03:22Last time out was 2023, and the conditions could not be more drastically different.
03:29It was a mudfest then, and this guy prevailed.
03:32He got the win.
03:33What did he have to say about thoughts on coming back to Jersey?
03:36I love coming back here.
03:39Ten minutes from where I was born.
03:41So, yeah, it feels good.
03:43It feels right.
03:44Yeah, last race here was really good.
03:45So, might as well try again.
03:47I think it'll be a little drier this time, so that's even better.
03:50But, yeah, special moments here.
03:52I'm getting a lot of fans here, which is great, and just a really good vibe.
03:57As Justin Barsha said, there are a lot of fans, a lot of support.
04:00That's because he's from this area.
04:02He's from the northeast, from New York, and he has a lot of people here.
04:06He's got friends and family.
04:07His brother's here to watch him.
04:09He told me yesterday at press when I asked him how much he wanted a podium,
04:12he just said, I'm hungry for it.
04:14He said, I'm hungry, and I can't wait, and I don't want to wait anymore.
04:17His best result this year has been four.
04:20So, he came so close in Indianapolis.
04:22That podium has been taunting him.
04:25When he won here back in 23, that was his first win in a couple of years.
04:29So, maybe New Jersey and MetLife Stadium is going to deliver something special again.
04:35It's been a while since we've seen Justin on the podium.
04:39When you have a win at certain venues, definitely gives you the good vibes going back the next season, for sure.
04:47Mindset's a little in a better place.
04:50The teammates going here.
04:51These two guys have been putting up some impressive numbers for the Quad Lock Honda team in recent races,
04:58with McElrath getting a career-high podium in Massachusetts at Foxborough, Gillette Stadium,
05:04and Joey Savace having a career-high, pardon me, a season-high last week with fifth, which was just awesome.
05:12So, this is a non-factory team doing really good things.
05:17Yeah, Martin Davalos, a team manager, has just done an incredible job.
05:21They started out in the 250 several years ago, going to the 450 now,
05:26and very tough to do what they do at the elite level.
05:34Meanwhile, up front, Chase Sexton has gapped Cooper Webb by five seconds.
05:42Here is Sexton's teammate, Aaron Plessinger, bike seven.
05:47That Red Bull KTM has got pace,
05:50and the Cowboy feels like he's got a shot here at Marsha to get back on the podium.
05:55There's his teammate, Bottom Box.
05:57Yeah, the four's in his own zip code right now.
06:02I mean, his lap times, his last lap was a 52.0.
06:07Cooper Webb's was a 53.4.
06:09That's an eternity on a Supercross track.
06:13And what's going to happen here is Chase able to pull out a big lead.
06:17Then he can just go into conserve mode, not have to ride that edge,
06:22and just maintain the gap.
06:23Incredible ride, and Goop was in a perfect spot to do something,
06:31and just wasn't able to hold the pace early on to the number four of Chase Sexton,
06:36and Chase Sexton putting the pressure on the number two,
06:41putting the two back in a position where he's got to go find some speed.
06:45Well, talking as Plessinger is relentless on Marsha, top box.
06:52That's the fight for third.
06:54Let's go back to last week in Philadelphia and have a look at this
06:57if you're talking about time differential, Ricky,
06:59because over the course of the 25-lap main event,
07:04the average lap time between Chase Sexton and Cooper Webb
07:07was one-tenth of a second difference.
07:11That is crazy close.
07:13I mean, that's how tight it is, but sometimes that's all that it takes,
07:17and I love that rhythm lane that Chase is doing after the whoops,
07:20going on to the tabletop, over the single, tripling into the corner,
07:25making up a lot.
07:26Look at the lead he's got, Cooper Webb.
07:29He has just absolutely walked away.
07:34Tell us what, JT.
07:35Yeah, you nailed it there, Ricky,
07:38and he is making so much time up in these whoops,
07:41and Cooper Webb has tried to respond.
07:43He's blitzed.
07:44He's jumped through.
07:45He's moved around,
07:46but the simple fact is he cannot match the pace of Aaron Plessinger in the whoops,
07:50and that's been a sticking point all season long.
07:53Cooper Webb's been able to mitigate that.
07:54He's been able to find a rhythm and offset that,
07:56and tonight he simply cannot,
07:58and Sexton is riding off into the distance.
08:00To give you a little nugget here,
08:02I mean, Sexton's average speed through the whoops is 0.6 faster a lap.
08:08Wow.
08:08than Cooper Webb.
08:12And that has afforded him an eight-plus second lead.
08:16Barsha is hanging tough aboard his Gas Gas,
08:19fending off the challenge from Aaron Plessinger,
08:21and remains in third.
08:24It's been more than a year since Barsha was on the podium.
08:27San Diego last season.
08:29How bad does he want it?
08:30How hard is he going to fight for it?
08:38Behind these guys,
08:40Justin Cooper,
08:41Dan Rocks on six,
08:43then Joey Sovacci in seven.
08:47We'll mention earlier
08:48about Justin Barsha riding with that injured figure.
08:51Tell the folks at home what it's like
08:53to race a Supercross main event
08:55when you've got some form of ailment.
08:57Well, I mean,
08:57it's so hard to race Supercross
08:59regardless if you have an ailment,
09:01but when you have that ailment,
09:02obviously it makes it harder,
09:04and sometimes that injury hurts
09:07in certain sections of the track,
09:08whether it's jump bases,
09:10G-outs, corners,
09:12or when the bike's accelerating,
09:13pulling away,
09:14just depending upon what injury you have looming.
09:17Sexton's lead is now blown out
09:22to 10 seconds.
09:24That is unreal
09:25to be able to come out there
09:27and just walk away like that
09:30on a track that is only 52 seconds long.
09:34I mean, the last lap,
09:36he turned a 52-8
09:37to Cooper Webb's 55-1.
09:41It's a good fight for third,
09:42and it's not about to evaporate either.
09:45Plessinger is keeping the pressure on Barsha.
09:48But Barsha himself
09:50is a distant 10 seconds behind Cooper Webb.
09:53So there's no pressure
09:54on the championship leader per se.
09:57But he's just got to hang in there.
10:00He can afford to lose
10:01another three points to Chase Sexton
10:03in the big picture scheme of things
10:05for the championship.
10:06But then going to the last three rounds,
10:09the championship difference
10:10would be down to single digits
10:11at nine points.
10:12Yeah, when it gets single digits,
10:15I mean, the pressure is on now,
10:18but it really...
10:20It really gets scary
10:23when it's single digits.
10:25What can Plessinger do here?
10:30Can he get by Justin Barsha
10:32for yet another podium?
10:34It would be his fourth on the season.
10:36He knows how tough Barsha is
10:40to tangle with in tight situations.
10:43And as we've crossed the halfway mark,
10:44just want to remind you
10:45to stock up on Monster Energy drinks,
10:47now available at 7-11.
10:49These guys practice together
10:50all the time in the Baker factory.
10:52Just wondering if they're thinking
10:54this is like a practice day
10:55during the week.
10:59Justin Barsha doing a great job.
11:01They're kind of mirroring each other
11:03as far as lines go.
11:10And Plessinger knows
11:12that he's got a little gap.
11:13He's got a bit of space
11:14back to Justin Cooper.
11:17But let's talk more
11:18about the second Red Bull KTM ride-up
11:21with Jason Thomas.
11:22JT?
11:22Yeah, I think that AP
11:24can be very patient here
11:26because if he looks back,
11:27he's got a little gap to Justin Cooper
11:28and there's really no risk
11:29of them catching Cooper Webb
11:31in front of them.
11:32So with a practice partner,
11:34with a rider that is
11:35as notably aggressive
11:36as Justin Barsha can be,
11:38I think he's going to take his time.
11:39Try to wear him down.
11:40Try to find a place
11:42to make a clean pass
11:43because remember,
11:44the last time these two
11:45really got together
11:46in Indianapolis,
11:47it ended up with Aaron Plessinger
11:48on the ground
11:48trying to make a move there.
11:50So he doesn't want
11:51to repeat it back.
11:51look at Sexton's lead now.
12:0514 and a half seconds
12:07as we're enthralled
12:08with this battle for third,
12:10which just seems endless.
12:12Yeah, I mean,
12:13the track is starting
12:15to get really chewed up,
12:17which makes it harder
12:18to make passes.
12:20So if you're AP,
12:21you just got to keep
12:22sticking with it
12:23and hope for a mistake
12:25from the 51.
12:25Keep pressuring him
12:26and when that door opens up,
12:28move,
12:28you walk through it.
12:30Well, he's going to have
12:31to be mindful
12:31because look to the right
12:33of the screen.
12:34Justin Cooper
12:34aboard the Monster Energy Star.
12:36Yamaha is coming.
12:40There's Barsha.
12:42Plessinger's in the middle
12:43and Cooper's got
12:45some momentum
12:46at the moment.
12:48And Cooper has his own fight
12:50as far as the championship
12:51is concerned
12:51between himself
12:53and Malcolm Stewart.
12:54Right,
12:54there's only one point
12:55separating them
12:56and Malcolm Stewart's
12:5774 points out of the lead.
13:00Justin Cooper 75,
13:02so a lot on the line here.
13:05Money on the line.
13:06for fourth place,
13:07I'm assuming Pride.
13:13So that's
13:14Chase Sexton
13:16in the bottom box
13:17going past Justin Hill
13:18who is in 12th.
13:21Look at that.
13:22Chase Sexton now.
13:23He's able to land
13:24off that tabletop.
13:25Bobensee triple in.
13:26He is crushing
13:27the rest of the field,
13:28especially Cooper Webb
13:30in that section.
13:31Weech.
13:32Yeah, thanks, Ricky.
13:33What's interesting,
13:34I mentioned earlier
13:35that Cooper Webb
13:36is working on sprint speed.
13:37I talked to Chase Sexton's
13:38dad, Kier,
13:40and he said
13:40they're doing the opposite.
13:42They're working on long motos.
13:43He said,
13:44we've done plenty of sprints.
13:45We have the sprints.
13:46So they're working on
13:47long practice sessions
13:48during the week.
13:49See if it pays off here
13:50in the stretch run.
13:51Yeah, that's right.
13:52That doesn't surprise me
13:54just because he's had
13:55the, on an average,
13:57he's had the speed advantage
13:58over Cooper Webb
13:59and a lot of the,
14:00a lot of the field.
14:02So, and that's what you do.
14:04Hone in on where
14:05you need to be better.
14:06He's doing a great job of it
14:08these last two weeks.
14:09It's been incredible to watch.
14:12And it's rides
14:13that we expect from him
14:14because he is that good.
14:16so it's not surprising
14:17to see what he's able to do.
14:21He's approaching Dean Wilson.
14:22Dino back for his second ride
14:24aboard the Honda HRC machine.
14:27He looks over.
14:28He's going to let Chase go by.
14:29No worries.
14:29So that is Sexton
14:31lapping up to 11th.
14:34McElrath will be the next one
14:35on his list.
14:37Although anything can happen.
14:41A lot of racing left.
14:43JT.
14:45I'm thinking about Chase Sexton
14:46what a win like this means.
14:48He's almost up to
14:48an 18 second lead now.
14:50And I believe Chase Sexton
14:51is a rider
14:52that can feed off
14:53of momentum.
14:54The confidence.
14:55He can really let that
14:56work in his favor.
14:57But that can go
14:57the other way too.
14:59He is so affected
15:00by the ups and downs
15:01of Monster Energy Supercross.
15:03And with three rounds to go,
15:04how much more confidence
15:06could you ever gain
15:07than putting 20 seconds
15:08into the points leader?
15:11It's all coming
15:12at the right time
15:13of the season.
15:14And you remember last week
15:15before we got going,
15:16in Philadelphia,
15:17we showed you
15:17some important stats
15:18that in the last five races
15:20of a season
15:20is the sweet spot
15:22for Chase Sexton.
15:23He won last weekend
15:24and he boasts
15:25nearly a 20 second lead here.
15:28Four and a half minutes
15:29plus a lap to go.
15:30I mean, he just absolutely
15:32dominated this race
15:33so far.
15:36You saw Coop trying his hardest
15:38to react to the speed
15:41that Chase Sexton had early on
15:44and he just was losing
15:45too much time
15:46in the whoops
15:47and then the rhythm lane
15:49after that will.
15:51Something else.
15:52Ricky, you've got to wonder
15:55what Cooper Webb's week
15:56is going to look like now
15:57because after Chase Sexton
15:58beating him last week,
16:00they went to work.
16:01The whole team went to work
16:02there at the farm.
16:03They put in the laps
16:04and as Jason Wiggen
16:05had told us,
16:06they were doing sprint laps
16:07there and, you know,
16:08he was getting rewarded
16:09for not having to stay
16:10out there as long.
16:11Well, I was told that
16:12they were pulling
16:12his riding apart.
16:14The team were putting
16:14pressure on him,
16:16analyzing every little thing,
16:17looking at the way
16:18he corners,
16:19everything he was doing,
16:20work speed, all of it
16:21and Jesse said
16:22the pressure was on.
16:23He wanted that.
16:24He wanted to be better.
16:26So what is this week
16:27going to look like?
16:27Yeah, you see that rhythm
16:28lane right there
16:29where he wasn't able
16:30to go over
16:30and then triple
16:31into the corner.
16:32It's little areas like that
16:33so he's losing time
16:34in the whoops
16:35and then that section
16:35and...
16:36Oh no!
16:37Justin Bacher is down
16:38from third place.
16:43He had ridden so well
16:44up to this point.
16:47Oh, look,
16:47he's got the Alpine star.
16:49device on as well.
16:50You can see
16:51how it's inflated.
16:57Here it is.
16:58This will tell us
16:58a little more.
17:00Second set of whoops.
17:04Oh, wow!
17:05Over the handlebars.
17:09I just want to give
17:10a little tip of the cap
17:11to Ricky Carmichael
17:12there because he said
17:13just be patient.
17:14Wait for a mistake
17:16if you can't keep
17:16the pressure on.
17:18That's exactly
17:18what he got
17:19from Justin Bacher.
17:20So AP on his way
17:20to a podium now.
17:22Maybe taking the smart
17:23ground and waiting
17:24for the mistake.
17:24I want to go back
17:25to, though,
17:26like Cooper Webb.
17:26I mean, he's doing
17:27and the team's doing...
17:28Oh!
17:29Makes contact
17:30getting back
17:31on the track
17:32with AP,
17:35Aaron Plessinger.
17:36there.
17:36But, I mean,
17:38he's trying everything
17:39he can.
17:41You know,
17:42and overturning
17:43every stone possible
17:44and you have to give
17:45him credit for that.
17:47He's giving it
17:47120%.
17:48Sometimes that just
17:50isn't enough.
17:50So I respect the effort
17:51that he's putting in
17:54and working on things
17:56like the sprint laps.
17:57What a shame
17:59for Justin Bacher.
18:00Meanwhile,
18:01the other Justin,
18:01Justin Cooper,
18:02is still in attack mode,
18:04full attack mode,
18:05because he wants
18:06to get back up
18:07on the podium,
18:07which would just be
18:08for the second time
18:09this season,
18:10if he can catch
18:11and do something
18:12about that man
18:12right there.
18:13less than two minutes
18:17plus a lap to go
18:18here in Jersey.
18:21And this podium
18:22not determined yet.
18:27It looked like
18:28Varsha was able
18:28to sustain the pressure
18:29from Plessinger.
18:30That's not the case now.
18:32What can Plessinger do
18:33about Justin Cooper?
18:36Yeah, Justin Cooper
18:37is able to do
18:37that same rhythm
18:38as Aaron Plessinger,
18:41making Aaron Plessinger
18:42work for it, Lee.
18:43Oh, this is not done yet.
18:46Oh, it's done up front.
18:48It's Chase Sexton
18:49just remains calm
18:51and he's got
18:52an 18 second advantage
18:53over the championship
18:54leader.
18:59And it's fair to say
19:00this is not the afternoon
19:02that we were expecting
19:03in New York.
19:03No, it wasn't,
19:04especially as we
19:05get down to the end
19:08here of the championship.
19:10Never expected
19:11to be a 17 second gap.
19:13from first to second.
19:15But it sets up beautifully
19:16for the final three rounds.
19:17Oh, yes, it does.
19:18Pittsburgh, Denver
19:19and Salt Lake City.
19:20This has all
19:21the fingerprints
19:22over it
19:22of being determined
19:24at the final opportunity
19:25in Salt Lake City.
19:26Plessinger gets by
19:33Bader's Benny Bloss.
19:40Dylan Ferrandes
19:42behind Plessinger
19:43and Cooper
19:43is headed for
19:44one of his best results
19:45of the season.
19:46Malcolm Stewart here
19:47aboard the Rockstar Husky.
19:50He runs in sixth
19:51ahead of Ken Rockson.
19:52And there's
19:53Ferrandes
19:53at the bottom
19:54of the screen.
20:01Nice to see
20:02the Phoenix
20:02Honda rider
20:03back up there
20:04in the top five.
20:09And Malcolm Stewart's
20:10not done with yet either.
20:11He's got his eyes
20:12on that because
20:13remember,
20:13he's in that
20:13really tense
20:15tight championship
20:16fight
20:16with Justin Cooper
20:18for fourth place.
20:20Two to go.
20:21Be interesting
20:22to see if Malcolm
20:22can pick him up,
20:24can pick Dylan
20:25Ferrandes off.
20:26Look at this guy, man.
20:30He won here
20:30in 250 competition
20:32back in 2019.
20:35But now
20:36in the premier class,
20:37he's a premier class
20:38champion
20:39and trying to become
20:40a two-time
20:41450 champion.
20:43And today's event
20:44here in New Jersey
20:45will have a
20:47big
20:48factor
20:50in whether
20:51it comes to
20:52fruition or not.
20:53Because Chase Sexton
20:54has done everything
20:55that he said
20:56he needed to do
20:57after winning
20:57in Philadelphia
20:58last weekend.
20:59He said,
21:00I just simply
21:00have to go
21:01and win out.
21:02That's the best.
21:03That's all I can do.
21:05And wherever
21:05Cooper Webb finishes,
21:07that'll take care
21:08of itself.
21:09Well, Chase Sexton
21:10went out
21:11and won his heat
21:12and he has
21:13dominated
21:14in every sense
21:15of the word
21:16this main event
21:17here in New Jersey.
21:19Back-to-back wins
21:20for Chase Sexton.
21:22He keeps his championship
21:24hopes alive.
21:24the points leader
21:29Cooper Webb
21:30is a distant
21:32second
21:33but will bring
21:36home valuable
21:36points
21:37but loses
21:39another three
21:40to his rival
21:41and it's going
21:43to be a first
21:44third result
21:45for Red Bull
21:46KTM.
21:48Aaron Plessinger
21:49hung in there
21:50pressured
21:51Barsha
21:52and will
21:53stand on the
21:54podium
21:54for the fourth
21:55time this year.
21:56Well done.
22:00That was a
22:01hot,
22:02hard afternoon.
22:03and I'm
22:12going to
22:14end
22:14in
22:15the
22:16next
22:16week.
