00:00Okay, guys, let's do this. Let's make the love happen.
00:05Oh, nice.
00:06That is spot on.
00:07Here we go.
00:09Last year, at the First Dates restaurant, nothing was off the table.
00:13The spiciest entrees.
00:16Don't steal my date.
00:17The juiciest revelations.
00:20Are you a virgin?
00:21Yes.
00:21Me too.
00:23And the sweetest of sweet talk.
00:25Are you an arseman?
00:27Would you eat me baguette, would you?
00:30I'm not surprised you're divorced.
00:31I am the devil's curse upon men.
00:34Oh, no.
00:35I've splashed water on myself.
00:41It was emotional.
00:43No question about that.
00:44Except maybe the obvious one.
00:47You're looking for love.
00:50Do you have an only fence?
00:52Do I have a what?
00:52Do you have an only fence?
00:53No.
00:54Do you think he's boyfriend material?
00:55He's a husband material, definitely.
00:57Oh, I'm a creeper.
00:58Oh, I'm a creeper.
00:59Oh.
01:02So join us as we look back at some of last season's most memorable get-togethers.
01:11Life is like a mirror.
01:12Smile at it.
01:13And it smiles right back.
01:15My name is Gary.
01:20I'm 35 and I'm from Tipperary.
01:23That sounded so fake.
01:24No, I didn't cut that.
01:25That sounded so Instagram-like.
01:27Oh, man.
01:28I would like to say that I'm funny.
01:36I would like to say I'm charismatic.
01:38I have dad jokes to beat the band.
01:41I don't trust theirs.
01:43They're always up to something.
01:44I would like to say that I'm a creeper.
01:46I'm a creeper.
01:47I'm a creeper.
01:47I'm a creeper.
01:48As hopeful singletons arrived for their date with destiny, it was time for some to leave
01:53the past behind and get back in the game.
01:56You dig?
02:00I gave up men for Lent.
02:02Honestly, it was probably the best 40 days of my life.
02:04Why do you think people come to the First Aid's restaurant?
02:12I think some people find it hard to approach people.
02:15You know?
02:16They find it hard to take the first step to reach out to somebody and make that contact
02:19with them.
02:20So they kind of let us do the matchmaking, do all the work and kind of come along for
02:24the ride and see what happens.
02:26And what makes you a catch here now?
02:28Don't be asking me then questions.
02:29Let me figure that out.
02:31Imagine if you come from a small town and you know you're flickering,
02:34through your date and apps and you've, you know, pretty much went through all seven
02:37of them.
02:38No, I think I was on Tinder maybe for about 30 seconds and I just thought, I don't like
02:42this.
02:43Just, oh my God.
02:44I was under my admission.
02:44What do you have your radius set at?
02:46500 miles.
02:47Which is, at least.
02:48I mean, you're going in blind, but hey, it's better than what you can see.
02:552023 was a fresh start for some, especially Aoife.
03:00She'd made a resolution and she was sticking with it.
03:03I'm doing my year of yes.
03:07I'm out there trying new things, pushing myself, trying to find out who the fuck I am.
03:12Like, who am I?
03:18Hey, Mateo.
03:19Hey, hey, hey.
03:20Might have me a name, please.
03:22Aoife.
03:22Oh, Aoife.
03:23Well, I look at you today, Aoife.
03:24You're looking great, huh?
03:26I'm going in with no expectations.
03:28I'm hoping to have an absolutely great time.
03:30Hello, Aoife.
03:31How are you?
03:32I look Goldilocks.
03:33Oh, yeah.
03:33Without my three bears.
03:36And I'm guessing you want something that's just right.
03:38Absolutely, yeah.
03:40I'm thinking someone who likes to have fun, someone who's outgoing, wants to have new experiences.
03:45You'll be adventurous.
03:46Yeah, I suppose so.
03:47You want someone that's adventurous as well.
03:48Take it out of your comfort zone.
03:50Yes, yes.
03:50Which would be good.
03:50Keep pushing the boundaries.
03:55Bye.
03:57Sorry, I want to do that.
03:59Okay, okay.
03:59I know I'm the crazy one I heard on the phone.
04:02Shh.
04:04Now I don't know.
04:05You can take your voice out anyway, so let's go.
04:10Yesterday, Lucas had been just another face in the crowd.
04:15Today, he was going to be himself.
04:17What would you do to impress somebody on a date?
04:20You see, what I did before, and I think it's a big mistake, I tried to change for them, to impress them.
04:28But now, I think it's not good, because on the end, you would like to be who you are.
04:37Hi there.
04:38Welcome.
04:39Hi.
04:41We can shake the head, actually.
04:44What's your name?
04:45Lucas.
04:45I saw it from my voice.
04:47I lost my voice.
04:48See, I just land today morning from Tomorrowland, from Belgium.
04:53How was that?
04:54I'm blue.
04:55Yeah?
04:56Yeah.
04:56But you will enjoy it.
05:02I still have a debate.
05:03Are you here now?
05:08Yeah, I am.
05:09Now you switch off from the festival, and you put yourself in a dating mode.
05:15It was an order, another question.
05:17Okay, also, yeah.
05:18Let's go.
05:18No dance tonight, okay?
05:21Enjoy it.
05:23Okay.
05:24You got my message, yeah?
05:25Okay.
05:25Okay, follow me.
05:26I feel the risks.
05:29Hello.
05:30Hi.
05:31Hi, Eva.
05:31Nice to meet you.
05:32Nice to meet you.
05:33You too.
05:34What's your name?
05:35Lucas.
05:36Oh, Lucas.
05:37What's your name?
05:37Eva.
05:38Eva, okay.
05:38Yeah, nice to meet you.
05:39Really sorry for my voice.
05:40That's okay.
05:41Yeah, I will explain it.
05:42Long story short, okay?
05:43I lost my voice, because I was in Tomorrowland for three days.
05:47Oh, I have a friend who went.
05:48Was it amazing?
05:49Oh my God, what's happening to you?
05:50It was really, really, really good.
05:52He was there in Belgium for three days.
05:55He arrived in this morning, went to sleep, got up, and rocked into, rocked up to first dates.
06:00Like, wow.
06:02I was on the rave.
06:03Some partying hard.
06:04Oh.
06:04Emperor Belgian.
06:05I left my voice down there anyway.
06:08And dignity to do.
06:09Oh, too hard here already.
06:11Put your hands up in the air.
06:13Actually, look.
06:14You're back in Dublin now, okay?
06:16You've had an adventure before you've even started here today.
06:18I'm a really spontaneous person.
06:20Wow.
06:21Clearly, yeah.
06:22Yeah, well, that's the story of my life, I would say, you know.
06:24You're in for a rough ride, Aifa.
06:28Thanks, God I thought.
06:30Tell me, how is it behind the bar?
06:32You know, when they come in, you can really feel the nerves of the first person that comes in, you know?
06:37Everything engaged with you more, they're more relaxed, and, you know, they're kind of easygoing.
06:42But if you kind of notice that they're not, and they kind of keep looking at the door and stuff like that,
06:45that's when you know they're kind of really nervous, and you have to try and pull them back.
06:48Because, you know, the nerves are worse than the actual.
06:51You know what's the cool part?
06:52You know, as soon as you leave behind the bar, they're lost again.
06:55Yeah.
06:57Mirror, this, that, yeah.
07:00Yeah, yeah, yeah.
07:02That's why you need the stiff drink.
07:04You know what?
07:06I'm going to have a W again, Red Bull in a pint glass with ice at a straw.
07:11Love it.
07:19Enjoy that, then.
07:20It does look like one of them, what do you call them, iced teas.
07:23Oh, Long Island iced tea.
07:24Yeah, with the lemon and stuff in it.
07:26Well, they call it a Long Offaly iced tea, okay.
07:28Yeah, the Biff or tea.
07:31When you see the gelling a bit, that's a satisfying.
07:33Yeah, it really is.
07:34Satisfaction.
07:34Yeah, it really is.
07:35I feel like I shouldn't be there in that moment, to be honest, you know, because they're getting on so well.
07:40What's this?
07:41This is a double E again, Red Bull.
07:43You know, I don't know when you have a double.
07:45Actually, can I make a double?
07:45Oh, ho, ho.
07:47Just start showing you up like that.
07:49Say that again, yeah.
07:49Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
07:52Have a get lucky, please.
07:53Get lucky, lovely.
07:54I'm going to have one as well.
07:55Let's just, let's just keep going.
07:56It's really nice that you kind of know, look, these are a perfect match, because, you know, that's the way it should be.
08:00Oh, look at all of you.
08:03I wish you all the best.
08:04So cute.
08:05So cute.
08:07What's it called again?
08:08Get lucky.
08:08Get lucky.
08:08Yeah, she picked it.
08:09I know, yeah, I know.
08:10As soon as she said it, I was like, oh, mess.
08:12Let's hope that continues for the rest of the evening.
08:13Yeah, exactly.
08:15What's happening?
08:16How's it form?
08:17Oh, good, man.
08:18I'm sure I fit myself.
08:18I don't want to expect.
08:19A couple of shots now.
08:20That's what you need.
08:20I'm not having tequila here.
08:21It's going straight to me head.
08:22Did you have one?
08:23I'll get three tequila.
08:24Do you want a tequila?
08:24Do you want a tequila?
08:26I'll never say no to that.
08:27Oh, well, let's do it.
08:29Three tequila.
08:31Where are you from, Cherry?
08:32I'm from Cavan.
08:33From Cavan?
08:34Yeah, long trip down.
08:36Cherry had no idea who her mystery date would be, but she had a little secret of her own.
08:41I am, in fact, two inches taller than Danny DeVito.
08:45I do think that's an interesting fact about me.
08:47I need someone to bounce off of someone who's, like, lively and chatty.
08:51I'm Gary.
08:52How are you?
08:52Yeah, I'm Cherry.
08:53Cherry, how are you?
08:54Sit down there.
08:55We'll get you a drink.
08:57How are you?
08:58I'm not too bad.
08:58How are you?
08:59Shit, myself.
08:59Oh, yeah.
09:00I'm after having a couple of drinks, so I'm all right.
09:02Oh, don't worry.
09:03I'm not scary.
09:04You look lovely, by the way.
09:05You actually look stunning.
09:05Yeah, yeah.
09:06Oh, I love your tattoos.
09:07Oh, thanks very much.
09:08My last tattoo was about eight years ago.
09:10Got in Australia, across my chest.
09:1121 hours of just absolute pain.
09:15I don't care what any man says.
09:16It's not a tattoo.
09:17Oh, I like this design.
09:18No, you don't like design.
09:19You're getting tattoos, make yourself think you look cool, so you get women.
09:23That's the end of it.
09:24I don't know if you've ever heard of a character called MC Dacent in Kevin.
09:27He's a rapper that lives in a caravan in his mother's back garden.
09:31Oh, lovely.
09:32Yeah, I see that.
09:33Well, I was in Irons Got Talent there a few years ago.
09:35Oh, what?
09:36As that character.
09:37Yeah.
09:37And got to live semi-finals.
09:40I want to hear an impression of MC Dacent.
09:42Go on.
09:44Well, we are telling you one thing tonight, right?
09:46You're not paying for the meal tonight, because I'm paying for the meal, because I'm the best
09:49person to pay for the meal.
09:51It's a little dicky rock, but I like it.
09:55So, you were saying you have a couple of fuckles?
09:58Well, yeah, a couple of fuckles.
10:00Do you have a school long way to go?
10:02Yeah, I have a school long way to go.
10:04I don't know if I'm not going to go.
10:05Yeah.
10:05Suddenly, French is the language of love, but for Ashlene and Lachlan, it was Irish all
10:32Yeah, he's right.
10:33So it's not like the hell of a telly, I think.
10:36The truth is, I was a good girl,
10:39but I was a young man in the future.
10:41I was a young man, so I didn't know if I was a girl.
10:44And then, it was like a demon.
10:47Yeah, I was like a demon.
10:50I was like a demon, I was like a demon.
10:53I was like a demon, I was like a demon.
10:56I was like, I was like a demon.
10:59And it's like...
11:02Do you speak Irish at all?
11:04I'm a little bit.
11:05I'm a little bit.
11:07What's your name?
11:08I'm a little bit.
11:13I'm a group of girls who are very good.
11:16I'm not sure if Scotty was a good one.
11:19I'm not sure if I'm a good one, I'm not sure if I'm a good one.
11:23I'm not a Belgian, I'm not a good one.
11:27I'm not sure.
11:28But Scotty couldn't do it because I'm not sure.
11:30I'm not sure if I'm a good one.
11:33Only date I've been on in the last year.
11:36It was just one of the DJs that came into my pub and she was like,
11:40Can I have your number? Do you want to go on a date?
11:41I was like, let's go on a date.
11:44So I went on a really nice date with a pretty DJ.
11:47It was a great date to like, you know, get back into it.
11:51After Covid and everything.
11:52So do you be on the girls as well then?
11:53Yeah, so I'm bisexual, like I told them.
11:55I was like, I don't mind, surprise me.
11:58Seriously?
11:59So you were walking in here, you didn't know anything.
12:02I knew nothing.
12:03I didn't know what I was getting into.
12:04I was like, my granddad's going to watch this show.
12:06And he was like, she's gay.
12:10What are you wearing?
12:12Fragrance wise?
12:13Yes.
12:13The new Ralph Lauren.
12:14Oh, it smells lovely.
12:15Doused in it, you know.
12:17The golden rule of dating is to be yourself.
12:20Quailan had learned that the hard way.
12:23I've been on a blind date before, which was a bit disastrous.
12:26Oh, wow.
12:27Okay.
12:27What happened to the last one?
12:29I think I was out of nerves or something.
12:30But I turned up and I was like, hi, my name is Quailan.
12:32And he goes, oh, so you're American.
12:35And I don't know what happened to me.
12:36But I went, yeah.
12:38So I spent maybe like 45 minutes pretending I was American.
12:43Wow.
12:44Kept taking toilet breaks just to like have a break from myself.
12:47Give me your American accent impression.
12:49No, definitely not.
12:50It's not happening.
12:51Imagine then you just fell right back into it again.
12:54And what would your normal type be?
12:57I'd get mad about a personality.
12:58I know that's like very cliche.
13:00It's like it's not about looks.
13:01Obviously you need to be attracted to somebody.
13:02Yes.
13:03Yeah, somebody can definitely win me over with humor.
13:04Your name is David.
13:06Mateo, nice to meet you David.
13:07Nice to meet you.
13:07Where's the accent he's from?
13:09Dublin.
13:10I should know better, man.
13:11After 20 years here.
13:12It's a bit watered down though, so.
13:13You went away young, yeah?
13:15I'm 30.
13:16Thank you for saying that I'm young though.
13:17I appreciate that.
13:19Yeah, the Botox works.
13:23You know when you meet somebody instantly whether there's connection.
13:26You know if it's electric or if it's...
13:28Hi.
13:29How's it going?
13:29I'm David.
13:30Quailan.
13:30Happy to meet you.
13:32Now I'm more relaxed.
13:33I was like, fine, I just get here.
13:34So I can just be like, how are you feeling?
13:36I'm good, good.
13:37I've been dating since I'm 19.
13:38It just never gets easier, does it?
13:40It's good to have nerves though, because it shows that you care.
13:42Yeah.
13:42I care, I care, Quailan.
13:44I care, yeah.
13:44Do you care, please?
13:45I do, deeply.
13:48What do you do?
13:48I was a makeup artist.
13:50Yeah?
13:50For the best part of 13 years.
13:51Okay.
13:52You're laughing, why are you smiling?
13:54Exactly what I do.
13:54Do you?
13:55Yeah.
13:55Okay.
13:56I'm sure it's no surprise.
13:57Why would it be a surprise?
13:58You didn't wear your badge.
13:59It's okay.
14:00Yeah.
14:01You know makeup is such a big thing in Ireland and there is an incredible amount of talent
14:06here.
14:07I have two front-tastic smiles if I do say so myself.
14:09The Pearly Whites.
14:11Yeah.
14:12This restaurant is excellent.
14:14Welcome to a confluent restaurant.
14:15What a great liking to see you have here.
14:17Come on back here.
14:20For all her positivity, Aoife had a lot to learn from Lucas.
14:25He sure was impulsive.
14:27Best friend of mine, he called me.
14:29Lucas, come over to Ireland.
14:30I can get you a job.
14:32I'm here now.
14:32I said, okay, why not?
14:34I flew over here.
14:35He's supposed to collect me on the Cork airport.
14:37And I went there.
14:38He was not there.
14:40He didn't show up.
14:42All that I know, I have to get a Tzlon Mel, that type of my English.
14:45Yeah, not Tzlon Mel, Tzlon Mel.
14:47So I go to the bus station in Cork.
14:49I sit in the bus because I have no idea how far is it.
14:52Every single stop.
14:53Tzlon Mel, Tzlon Mel.
14:55When the Tzlon Mel eventually come, yeah, six people turn to me in the bus and say, Tzlon Mel.
15:01I said, thank you so much.
15:03Coming up, a practical guide to finding the one.
15:07I wrote a poem called Looking for a Needle in a Haystack.
15:10It's, I suppose, the ideal fella that I love to meet.
15:14It must be love, love, love.
15:17Do-do-do-do.
15:18And a little madness, for good measure.
15:30Favourite things and shared passions often brought daters together.
15:34But sometimes, the thing that made them click was an ick.
15:39Every time I hear Velcro, my nose seizes up.
15:42Your nose seizes up?
15:43I'm not joking.
15:44Went to my doctor, said it to her, and she was like, there's really nothing I can do.
15:48You have to get hypnotized for it.
15:50I was like, go, I'm going to find myself hypnosis, so I found you.
15:54Exactly.
15:55In the most over-likeliest of places.
15:57I'm going to have to keep you, like.
15:58I'm going to have to keep you.
16:05Fair one thing?
16:09Sharing food?
16:11No.
16:13No, no, no.
16:14In a restaurant, when you hear it, Joey doesn't share food?
16:16Yeah.
16:17Yeah, that would be me.
16:18You know when people say, oh, I'll get this, you get this, and then we'll, you know, we'll switch halfway.
16:22I'm not person.
16:23Oh, no, no, no, no, because I'm like, I really like this, and I'm not willing to give up the rest of it.
16:27Especially on a first date.
16:29And what if you picked the wrong thing?
16:30What if you liked Joey that time, that he gets the wrong dessert, and he wants the brownie?
16:34That is my decision, and I probably would wait till they go to the toilet and eat their food.
16:37Yeah.
16:38Okay, we could never date.
16:41They say there's a sock for every shoe.
16:44Alternatively, for every Catwoman, there was a dark night.
16:48I'm also wearing a Batman sock.
16:51I enjoy this.
16:53Yeah, I'd be a big kind of nerd.
16:55I was wearing a Charizard socks earlier.
16:58So, like, I, like, I wear weird socks.
17:01I'm so upset.
17:03I was putting them on, and, like, everything was fine.
17:05I had my whole outfit planned.
17:07And then when I looked at my socks again after the shower, I was like, there's a hole on Charizard's head.
17:12So I have to throw these socks out.
17:13No, you can't throw any Pokemon socks.
17:15No, they're gone.
17:16No.
17:16No, they're gone.
17:17No, no.
17:18I still...
17:19We're a Pokemon person.
17:22My dude.
17:23That is unbelievable.
17:24I was actually just going to get a genuine black, red and white big Pokeball on my arm.
17:28But they kind of talked me out of it.
17:30So we went for the four elements.
17:32We have the water, fire, earth, and then the air.
17:34So you're a Pokemon fan also.
17:36Yes.
17:37I had my Pokemon backpack with me, but I was told a clutch would be more sophisticated.
17:42My bag's a Pokemon backpack.
17:44My cutlery at work is Pokemon.
17:49If your ideal match was a Pokemon.
17:52Snorlax.
17:53It's this big, teddy bear-looking guy that sleeps a lot.
17:59Was it not one that sprang into your mind as a question?
18:01Obviously Pokemon for my childhood.
18:04If you were a Pokemon, who would you be?
18:06Oh, God.
18:07I've never actually thought about that.
18:12Probably Snorlax.
18:21Some daters arrived without preconditions.
18:24Not Regina.
18:25She had a wishlist.
18:28I wrote a poem called Looking for a Needle in a Haystack.
18:31It's, I suppose, the ideal fella that I'd love to meet.
18:35Because I was thinking, oh, I'll go on Tinder.
18:37And then what do you write?
18:39So I thought, I know what I'll do.
18:41Write a poem and let that be the end of it.
18:43Your name, Adam?
18:44Regina.
18:44What would that be?
18:46The Queen.
18:46Queen in Italian.
18:47Yeah, am I right?
18:48Yeah, that's me, the Queen.
18:49Yeah.
18:49You're going to be the Queen of his night, you know?
18:52He'd be my King.
18:54I'm an Irish girlie looking for someone burly.
18:57I don't do bland.
18:58Not everyone will be grand.
19:00How are you feeling?
19:01Nervous?
19:02I don't know.
19:02What's the worst that can happen?
19:04Exactly.
19:06Manners are a must.
19:07I'm not settling for lust.
19:08Living on your own is a big plus, as I don't like too much fuss.
19:14Regina's date, Tom, had quite the reputation, and he was keen to lose it.
19:19All my friends probably think that I'm going to be a bachelor for the rest of my life.
19:23Hello, how are you?
19:24How is everything?
19:25Not too bad.
19:25Yourself?
19:26Oh, where is the accent from?
19:27County Westmead.
19:28Ah, cool one, man.
19:30I'm hoping that she likes me, and I like her, and we can go from there.
19:35Hello, how are you?
19:36Regina.
19:36I'm Regina.
19:37Hello, how are you keeping?
19:38Nice to meet you.
19:38How are you doing?
19:39You too, Thomas.
19:39Thomas, nice to meet you.
19:40Thomas is my name.
19:41How are things?
19:42I'm all right, are you?
19:42Ah, I should look.
19:43You need it.
19:44I'm hanging in there just about.
19:46Pleasantries exchanged, Tom stepped up to the challenge, and immediately found himself
19:52on the back foot.
19:54Tick.
19:54I do a bit of sales now, mainly, but...
19:57Oh, right.
19:58You see, I always think about a salesman.
20:00They'll fill you up with a load of rubbish.
20:02That's what I think in here.
20:05Anyway, cheers.
20:06Son, chap.
20:07Very good.
20:07Nice to meet you.
20:08You too.
20:09Well, we'll see you at the end if it's nice to meet you or not.
20:13You must have met someone in Manchester, Arthur.
20:15Eh, I never brought home anyone to Mammy or Daddy, you know.
20:19Jeez, that'd be a big test.
20:20Jeez, it'd be kind of...
20:22You might as well bring them up to chapel at that stage.
20:25Embracing the positive was still something of a novelty for Aoife.
20:29Unlike Lucas, for whom it seemed every year was a year of yes.
20:34So, what kind of type you are?
20:35What do you like?
20:36You go out sometimes?
20:37Yeah, not really anymore.
20:38Not really.
20:38What do you mean, anymore?
20:39What's happened?
20:40I'm listening.
20:42I don't really...
20:42I just don't really go out anymore.
20:44Why?
20:46What changed?
20:47I suppose, like, the friends that I used to go out with are in kind of different places to me.
20:51So, they have a baby, they have a family.
20:53Yeah, yeah.
20:54So, what I find now, more so what I'm doing is, like, day-tripping and, like, doing, I suppose, a bit more things myself.
21:00God, it sounds so boring compared to your Tomorrowland story.
21:03Like, I'm like, oh, yeah.
21:05I just went on a day trip there to the beach, like, the reason why I was doing the year of yes is because I was thinking to myself, when was the last time you actually, like, laughed from your, from the depths of your gut, like?
21:16How do I get back to feeling new feelings, I suppose?
21:21I'm learning to sing, I've been doing mindfulness, I've been doing yoga, I went back to take one dough, I joined a dance class.
21:27Do you like dance?
21:28Yes, I'm learning to dance, so we're learning the snow waltz, we're learning the foxtrot, from the social dances.
21:33Yeah.
21:34Have you ever been to a social dance?
21:35Yes.
21:36I've never been.
21:37Never?
21:38Why not?
21:39I don't know how to dance, properly.
21:41So, the best practice is, you know when you have a lesson on Fridays, you should go out Saturday to practice what you learned?
21:46No, because, like, you're talking about, like, going clubbing and stuff, like, you're not going to be doing the foxtrot.
21:51You can do whatever you want.
21:54I am starting small, and every time I push myself a little bit farther, it's like, you can do it, like, keep going, keep going.
22:00Do what you want to do.
22:01Positivity is the main part of the life, I would say, you know?
22:04Yeah.
22:05That's my, my attitude anyway, for it.
22:07What about your attitude?
22:08What about my attitude?
22:09Yeah.
22:09I try to be as positive as I can anyway.
22:11That's really good.
22:12That's the first good step, because even bad things can be always good, you know?
22:16The coin have a two sides.
22:18Yeah.
22:19Very true.
22:21So tell me, first song that pops into your head with the word love in the title.
22:28Oh, God, it's pretty grim, but love is a battlefield.
22:32Armed with confidence, poised for action, brave and resilient, every dater was here to win, even when the odds were insurmountable.
22:44Like being rejected in air and something like that, that dad would turn off as me in the slightest.
22:49I've just had such a rarity as well.
22:51Yeah, I'd like to see him again, I'd like to get to know more.
22:54Oh, my God.
22:55I'll start with the heads and we'll go right out.
22:56That was just...
22:57Would you like to see each other again romantically?
23:01I think we'd be better as friends.
23:03Oh, my God.
23:04Yeah.
23:05Yeah.
23:07Oh, my God.
23:08Yeah.
23:09Oh.
23:10Yeah.
23:11He was so lovely.
23:14It's just, there was no, nothing there for me.
23:16Like, even if I end up hating the person, like, it's literally about...
23:19You don't hate me.
23:20I was about to say.
23:21No, I don't hate you.
23:22I was about to say.
23:23No, but even if I did...
23:24I don't hate you either.
23:26In fact, I would be quite fond of you.
23:27I had a great day.
23:28I had a great time.
23:29Can't fault it.
23:30But I'd say romantically, no.
23:31I think we, um, we get all great friends.
23:34On a romantic level, I'd have to say no.
23:37Sorry.
23:41I'm disappointed, but, yeah.
23:44Sorry.
23:45I don't know why I'm upset.
23:49Fine.
23:50It's fine.
23:51It's never fun, isn't it?
23:55And rejection's a part of life, so...
23:58Yep.
24:05What do you mean to desserts?
24:06First dates are perfect opportunities for two people to really dig each other's hopes
24:12and dreams.
24:13Clearly, Tom was gonna need a bigger spade.
24:16Are you a romantic at heart, do you think?
24:18Behind the poker face and the closed book and all that stuff.
24:22I don't mind.
24:23Whatever you want.
24:24It doesn't bother me.
24:25I'll leave it up to you.
24:26The sound.
24:28You go ahead, and I'll follow Sue.
24:31That's the way we operate around here.
24:34You know, I could chat about anything, but then when it comes to, like, feelings and things,
24:38I'm a bit like, ooh.
24:41Big into the G, eh?
24:42Oh, you're not?
24:43Are you?
24:44Yeah.
24:45Why are you?
24:46No.
24:47No?
24:48That's a red flag now.
24:49Just so you know.
24:53Jesus, I should have said that nearly at the end.
24:55I should have said that at the start.
24:56I don't know.
24:57It won't fall out yet.
24:58Ah, no, not yet now.
24:59Now I come across tougher and not really.
25:00I don't know about that, no.
25:01I don't know.
25:02I'd say you dish it out now enough.
25:03It'll be alright.
25:05Not everyone likes to share.
25:07But in the age of social media, we're all just a few clicks away from exposing our inner selves.
25:15Show me some model photos there.
25:17Show, you have to show me, Cherry.
25:19I mean, you can look at my Instagram and see if it's fine.
25:22Oh, do I look at Instagram?
25:23It's fine.
25:24Right, Chesa.
25:25We're getting into it now.
25:27I mean, I'm not shy, so.
25:30Oh, stop it.
25:31Stop it.
25:32I'm hooked.
25:33No, I love your confidence.
25:34I love your energy.
25:35I love everything about it.
25:36Like, it's perfect.
25:37Yeah, you know what?
25:38I think, like, everybody should do, like, a boudoir shot at least once in a life.
25:43Will I get a boudoir shot?
25:44Yeah, why not?
25:45Can I have a boudoir?
25:46Yeah.
25:47What do I get?
25:48The knickers on it?
25:49Well, it could be underwear or it could be, like, implied nudity.
25:53I'm definitely stubborn.
25:54My mom says I'm like a bloodhound.
25:56If I pick up a scent on something, that's what I'm getting.
26:00Like, it has helped me.
26:01It's helped me push through a lot of things.
26:03Everyone should just kind of go for it at least once.
26:07Everyone should love himself at least once.
26:09And do you know what?
26:10If you can do that on camera.
26:12Exactly.
26:13Why not?
26:14You look sexy, though.
26:15You do look sexy.
26:16Oh, thank you.
26:17Very sexy.
26:18What song comes to mind for you?
26:20On a slightly different note, it must be Love by Madness.
26:24See, that's because you're happily in love.
26:26It's disgusting.
26:27It's just such a happy song, though.
26:29When you're good, you're good.
26:31And we are class.
26:32Indeed, we are.
26:33Did you fancy her?
26:35Oh, yeah.
26:36Instant, yeah.
26:37She's very beautiful.
26:38It's one of those songs you put it on and you, like, you never get sick of it.
26:42True.
26:43You know?
26:44As soon as you hear the opening bit, Ian, it's really upbeat and happy and it puts you in a great mood.
26:47Can I just say, it's like you've got the most amazing eyes.
26:50Oh!
26:51Yeah.
26:52Thank you so much.
26:53Look into it all day.
26:54Oh, thank you so much.
26:56Yes.
26:57Love, love, do-do-do-do.
27:00See?
27:01Yeah, it does.
27:02It's infectious as well.
27:03It is.
27:04Yeah, I agree.
27:05That's a good one.
27:10In matters of love, Amiya was highly qualified.
27:15Unlike most of her dates.
27:18Why don't your mom say your single?
27:21High standards.
27:23She will say that she's very picky.
27:25Silky smooth, huh?
27:26No messing.
27:27How are you?
27:28What's your name, Amiya?
27:29Amiya.
27:30My last date was, like, like, last year, maybe, like, months back.
27:34Like, I don't even remember because it was that boring, you know?
27:37I don't know what's wrong, so maybe he can figure out what's wrong with me and tell me, like,
27:42I haven't put, like, a finger on the thing which is wrong with me.
27:45Yeah.
27:46Because, according to me, I'm perfect.
27:47Oh, yeah.
27:48Well, that's as you should think that.
27:49Do you know what I mean?
27:50You should be your own children.
27:51Exactly.
27:52If you don't believe in yourself, how do you expect anyone else to?
27:54Who will else believe?
27:55Yes.
27:57What type of person are you looking to meet?
27:59First of all, good looks.
28:01Because if it doesn't appeal to my eyes, it won't appeal to my heart.
28:05Good beard, dimples, good ass.
28:08He should be funny, you know?
28:09Good, yeah, yeah.
28:10He should not be, like, boring.
28:11No.
28:12I have two degrees, and I'm preparing for my third degree as well,
28:16so I want my partner to have that quality as well.
28:19And what do you do yourself?
28:20I work in sales.
28:21Okay.
28:22Tech sales.
28:23This will be easy to you, you know what I mean?
28:25I'm not selling myself here.
28:26He's gonna sell him.
28:28And I'm gonna see some potential buyer.
28:30Oh, she's fucking gorgeous.
28:33At the first date's restaurant, truth is revealed in all kinds of ways.
28:39But mainly on the phone, in the Jacks.
28:42He's really good.
28:44Like, proper handsome.
28:47He's like a crack.
28:49He's like a crack.
28:50He's like a crack.
28:51He's like a crack.
28:52He's like a crack.
28:53Is he your usual type?
28:54Um...
28:55No.
28:56Okay.
28:57He's really nice.
28:58He actually lived in London for a while,
29:00so I feel like we can...
29:01Oh no.
29:02I've splashed water on myself.
29:03And we got Pokemon out there at the beginning.
29:05Okay.
29:06He led well.
29:07He didn't even know he led well.
29:08No, it's going good, man.
29:09It's going good.
29:10I'm having a crack in my eye.
29:11But, like, it's really chilled out, like.
29:13I'm talking my usual level of crap.
29:15Okay.
29:18Uh...
29:19I don't remember.
29:21She's fucking unreal, Ali.
29:22Like, as in...
29:23Jesus.
29:24Solid eight or nine, like...
29:25Oh my God!
29:26That was amazing!
29:27He has a lot of things in common, actually.
29:29It's a lot to do.
29:30What do you think?
29:31Do you think she's like me?
29:33Yeah, I have no fucking idea.
29:35I guess no, I'm grand.
29:37He's really, really chatty.
29:38Oh, good.
29:39Yeah.
29:40But...
29:41Do you know what?
29:42Do you know what?
29:43He's from Dublin.
29:44Would you write him?
29:48I don't know.
29:49I don't know.
29:50Jesus Christ, would you let me finish my dinner first?
29:52And...
29:53He has Irish.
29:56Armagh Irish.
29:57And it's fucking divine.
29:59Whatever language you speak,
30:01however charming you are,
30:02none of it counts
30:04if you can't remember
30:05who you're talking to.
30:07I have this thing
30:08when I meet somebody new.
30:09I'm chatting away to them.
30:10They'll tell me their name.
30:12And I will immediately
30:13listen to their name
30:14and I'll learn the next bit of information about them
30:16and forget their name.
30:19Now,
30:20you're not the first,
30:21you won't be the last.
30:22There's fellas in my friend group
30:24whose name I didn't know
30:25for the first month.
30:29So, can I get your name again, please?
30:33And I apologise for that.
30:35Chloe.
30:36Chloe.
30:37Is that Chloe?
30:38Chloe.
30:39Chloe.
30:40Oh.
30:41Do you remember my name?
30:46And aren't you glad?
30:48Yeah.
30:49Aren't you just delighted?
30:51I think I'd be asked.
30:53Frances.
30:54Frances.
30:55Don't forget.
30:56Think of the Pope.
30:57In the end,
30:58it wasn't the Pope,
30:59but Cupid,
31:00whose blessing was required.
31:02And his indulgence
31:03was not guaranteed.
31:05Would you like to see
31:06each other again romantically?
31:11In a romantic sense, no.
31:13I think we're in two different paths.
31:15Yeah.
31:16It definitely felt like mates.
31:17Yeah, yeah.
31:18100%.
31:19I can feel the energy
31:20from the crystals and all.
31:22Are you like me
31:23that you need to feel
31:24an absolute spark
31:25that you need to instantly feel?
31:26Yeah.
31:27It needs to be there from the start,
31:28I think.
31:29Yeah.
31:30Definite mates.
31:31Definite mates.
31:32Are you ready for nooks?
31:34Is my mind going to be blown?
31:36Oh, not only that.
31:38Your ears.
31:39See, I ride around on a horse.
31:41No energy waste,
31:42no diesel.
31:44Any spark after that, Cherry?
31:49Coming up,
31:50a fairy tale ending
31:51for one princess bride.
31:53Do you think he's boyfriend material?
31:54He's a husband material, definitely.
31:56And a dancing queen.
31:58Who is that king?
31:59Maybe I can dance when the one gets tough.
32:08Here at the First Dates restaurant,
32:10every dater had come in search of the one.
32:13For some,
32:14that vision failed to appear.
32:16Others found exactly
32:18what they were looking for.
32:20Either way,
32:21it was all in the eyes.
32:23I don't know why my eyes are watering.
32:24It has been since I walked in that door.
32:26You're going to be allergic to me.
32:27It's like people that are allergic to chocolate.
32:29Yeah.
32:30It's like, I'm going to eat it,
32:31but I'll pay for it.
32:36I think you're the most confident person
32:37I've met in recent memory,
32:39which is very attractive.
32:41This confidence takes time.
32:43Yeah.
32:44It takes a lot of hurdles,
32:45a lot of heartbreaks.
32:47A lot of sad lowly nights.
32:49You sound like you've been hurt.
32:51What?
32:53I don't give men that much power,
32:55but I used to give them that much power
32:57when I was young and naive.
32:59I used to think that people would not find me funny.
33:01People would not find me pretty.
33:03And I was never somebody's first choice.
33:05So I need to make sure that I break the circle.
33:07I've reached that stage where I don't care.
33:09Lions don't care about the opinions of sheep.
33:11Oh, I'm very good.
33:19Can you cook?
33:20Oh, yeah.
33:21Can you?
33:22Lamb and boiled bacon,
33:23and that's about...
33:24Your country.
33:25Sorry.
33:26It's not a bad way to be.
33:27Do you live by yourself?
33:28Yeah.
33:29Oh, do you?
33:30Oh, right.
33:31If you leave it any longer,
33:32it gets harder and harder,
33:34and then you get too used to being on your own
33:36and doing your own thing,
33:37which is my biggest problem.
33:39Can you iron?
33:40Yeah.
33:41Oh, right.
33:42Can you not see, you know?
33:43Very impeccable.
33:44Yeah, I know.
33:45I know right about it.
33:46My sister was visiting there recently,
33:48and she goes,
33:49Regina, I think you're living too long on your own.
33:52And I was like, why?
33:53What?
33:54I like kind of my own space.
33:56Yeah, yeah, doing your own thing.
33:57Yeah, yeah.
33:58And I think that can be
33:59maybe a bit of a bad thing as well.
34:01Oh, of course.
34:02Of course you can.
34:03You know, like,
34:04you're not willing to compromise.
34:05Yeah, yeah, yeah.
34:06Well, that's...
34:07Oh, because I like things my way.
34:08Oh, I know that.
34:09Do you know?
34:10I got the love heart or the big ass.
34:14Sorry, it's just...
34:16Which direction you're looking at it?
34:18Okay.
34:19Do you want to do it?
34:20Go ahead.
34:21If there was a theme to Lucas and Aoife's date,
34:23it was affirmation.
34:25His optimism,
34:26her commitment to the word yes.
34:28One sensed a twinkle.
34:30You still have glitter in your beard from Tomorrowland.
34:32Oh, wow.
34:33Nice.
34:34I keep playing America.
34:35Yeah, souvenirs.
34:36Yeah.
34:37Are we ready?
34:38Let's split it.
34:39Let's split it.
34:40I pay for that.
34:41Let's split it.
34:42I pay for that.
34:43Okay.
34:44Thank you very much.
34:46Oh, my God.
34:47Keep a tip.
34:49There's still a tip in this.
34:50You're just throwing it away.
34:51Keep it the rest.
34:52Thank you so much.
34:53Thank you so much.
34:54Would you like to see each other again romantically?
35:05Do you mind if I answer first?
35:06Of course.
35:07Go ahead.
35:08So, you are a wonderful person.
35:10You absolutely blew me away.
35:12And I think you're extremely refreshing.
35:16I have loads to learn from you.
35:18Loads to learn from you.
35:20I don't feel a spark.
35:22So, romantically, I'm going to say no.
35:24But if you would like to keep in touch,
35:26I think I would really like that.
35:28Yeah.
35:29Yeah.
35:30Same.
35:31I would say no.
35:32Yeah?
35:33As a friend, yeah.
35:34Okay.
35:35Yeah.
35:36I take you out.
35:37Amazing.
35:38From the house.
35:39Yeah, I need that.
35:40It's been so nice to have you both.
35:41Thank you so much.
35:42Thanks again for coming.
35:43Bye.
35:44You have to be yourself.
35:45You don't try to pretend to be something.
35:47I'm happy how I did.
35:48I was myself.
35:49I wouldn't change anything.
35:50Now, G or by the result?
35:51Yes, G.
35:52G.
35:53Not the spot.
35:56I have loads to learn from him.
35:57Like, here I was racking up thinking, like,
35:59oh, my year of yes way.
36:01Like, and then he, I'm talking to him for two minutes,
36:03and I'm like, I don't know,
36:04I'm not a patch on this guy.
36:05Like.
36:06I know we're going to crack the place.
36:08But what do you want to do?
36:09Yes, please.
36:11Ha ha ha ha.
36:12I know.
36:21So where are Dublin you from again?
36:22I'm from Sheriff Street.
36:23On the surface, make-up artists Quailon and David
36:26had a lot in common.
36:27But as they shared their stories,
36:29it was clear there was one blemish on the face of society
36:33that couldn't be concealed.
36:34The community is strong.
36:36The community is very strong and it makes some very strong people and very unique characters.
36:42And growing up with a little bit...
36:46I'm a nerdy, really quiet, gay kid who just wanted to act, draw and paint.
36:52That's all I wanted to do.
36:54So I kind of had a childhood and a teenage years where I literally could not walk down the street without being called a name or being shouted at.
37:02School was the same, so I kind of had it everywhere I went.
37:07And it's not like everybody, I'm not saying like everybody did it, but there would have been like the lads who did it.
37:13I was saying that I was on Georgia Street a couple of weeks ago and they did have eggs thrown at me.
37:19And I was only leading my friend to the bus stop and I got called a faggot.
37:23It's scary to be gay, but you are who you are, you can't live your life in fear.
37:29You're talking about a very small percentage of the population that would want to do harm to somebody who's gay.
37:34What happened, like a couple of people in Dublin recently, it does make you, like, I'm not fearful at all.
37:40I'm going to go out there and I'm going to do exactly what I did before, but it's still shocking that things like that are happening.
37:47I am fearful though. It's scary. It's very scary.
37:50Like, if I was dating somebody or if I was going out with anybody, I shouldn't have to hesitate to hold a hand.
37:57No, you shouldn't.
37:58I shouldn't have to hesitate to kiss somebody in public.
38:00Yeah.
38:01And I do, and I'm annoyed at myself that I do it.
38:03Hey.
38:04Hello. Nice to meet you.
38:05Nice to meet you.
38:06Wait, what's her name?
38:07Xenia.
38:08Xenia?
38:09It's Xenia.
38:10Everyone wants to be lucky in love, but it's not that easy, as Mike found out when he met Xenia from Odessa.
38:17My best friend, she has a husband and two children, and you can only live if you have three children.
38:24The man cannot leave the country.
38:25Yeah.
38:26So she was going out of the country with her kids twice, and she came back because she said, like, I cannot leave my husband.
38:31Yeah.
38:32And I told her, what about you, you know, make a third child?
38:36And she was, like, very funny to speculate to make a human being to get out of the country.
38:41I'm like, in a way, I am lucky that I don't have a husband in Ukraine.
38:45But then I was thinking, but it's not luck.
38:48It's not a blessing.
38:49It's actually, I made my life empty to the point that I envy a person who is in Ukraine.
38:56Yeah.
38:57That I have something to lose.
38:58Yeah.
38:59And I don't have.
39:00I feel sometimes I would also like to enjoy every moment of my life with someone, but I don't have anyone.
39:09That hit me very strong when the war started.
39:12It's like I stopped being adventurous and grow up.
39:17It's an odd way for insight to come, but that's definitely insightful, yeah.
39:21It is.
39:22As daters got to know each other better, the conversation inevitably turned into different variations of one question.
39:31What are you looking for in a guy?
39:33What is your type?
39:34I'll see if I fit any of these brackets.
39:36Of course.
39:37Good-looking person because, you know, physical attraction is very much important for an independent.
39:42Like, not staying with his parents.
39:44Hey, we're in the middle of a housing crisis, okay?
39:46But he still has mummy issues.
39:48Best of luck trying to find a man who doesn't have mummy issues.
39:50I know.
39:51Every guy I've met has major mummy issues.
39:55Mammies are all so pure sound, like.
39:57I love mothers.
39:59Mothers love me.
40:00But I don't want a dude who calls his mum at 2am just to check how to make rice.
40:06I can't do that.
40:09The goal is to get to a comfortable state of being.
40:13Have my own house.
40:14Be financially secure and maybe romantically secure.
40:19How do you feel about marriage?
40:21I want to get married, obviously.
40:22You want to get married?
40:23Yes.
40:24What do you think is the statistic of one in every three marriages ending in divorce?
40:28I feel like communication, trust, is two things which goes handy.
40:33If you respect me and if you are loyal to me, and if you talk about things, I think we can work out any difficulty.
40:39Very true.
40:42Do you want us nice?
40:43I've actually forgotten we're here.
40:45Eh.
40:50Myself and my sister went to TEDfest.
40:54She came up with this bringing me that we used to do Ted's Got Talent.
40:57So she dressed up as Elvis when he was learning.
41:00And then I dressed up as Elvis when I was in his prime.
41:04Black shirt, black leather trousers, wig, medallion, the whole lot.
41:10I thought I did all right, you know.
41:13So maybe I can dance when the going gets tough.
41:15When the chips are down, you have to just turn it on.
41:19If you were going to go dressed as somebody, who are you going to go as?
41:24Your man, what's him then, Father Jack?
41:25Father Jack?
41:26Yeah.
41:27Foam coming out of his mouth.
41:31You?
41:32I think, as bad as I would be, I think I'm going as Dougal.
41:37Yeah, I think I'm a little bit clueless sometimes.
41:40Like the constant surprise look on my face.
41:45For hopeful daters, the moment of truth had arrived, and your guess was as good as theirs.
41:52You reckon you can predict the ending?
41:59Bear in mind, two professionals in the market for hundreds of years and nobody can predict the market.
42:05Why do you think you're special?
42:07Huh?
42:08Why do you think you're special?
42:09No, no, no.
42:10I remember the first time we did it, I was like, yeah, definitely.
42:13And then I was like, realised, no, you can't predict it.
42:15Yeah.
42:16I'll be here till the end of time.
42:19Yeah.
42:20What's that?
42:21Oh, Tom McCree, British.
42:22Oh.
42:23I'd say yeah.
42:24I'd say yeah.
42:25Yeah.
42:26And also some people are brilliant in showing the interest and showing respect.
42:31Yes.
42:32But some people are just genuinely nice and they don't want the other person to feel uncomfortable
42:36anyway, so they're pretty much good at doing that and kind of making them feel at ease,
42:39but I guess what happens then after is that you...
42:41Would you like to do that?
42:42No.
42:43I imagine no.
42:44That'd be fair.
42:45I would say yes.
42:46I would say yes as well.
42:48Huzzah.
42:49Even as Qualon and David's date came to an end, everything still hung in the balance.
43:03Do you think he fancied you?
43:05I'm unsure.
43:06I don't know if he fancied me as much as I maybe liked him.
43:08Did you have a good date?
43:09I did.
43:10I had a lovely date.
43:11Yeah.
43:12You're very funny.
43:13Yeah.
43:14Yeah.
43:15Do you like at or with?
43:16So I'll keep that to myself for now.
43:17Squeeze speak.
43:19Cheers.
43:20Would you guys like to see each other again romantically?
43:21I would.
43:22Yeah.
43:23Yeah.
43:24Yeah.
43:25Yeah.
43:26Yeah.
43:27Yeah.
43:28Yeah.
43:29Yeah.
43:30Yeah.
43:31Yeah.
43:32Yeah.
43:33Yeah.
43:34Yeah.
43:35Yeah, I think another date would be nice if you're up to it.
43:38Yeah.
43:39Instantly, personable, very warm, very funny, and a nice guy.
43:40I'd say right back at you.
43:42I'd be interested to learn more.
43:43There's one of the skeletons coming out of the closet.
43:44As long as there's only skeletons.
43:45Can you do us your American accent?
43:46I hate you all.
43:47If you do it when you do it, I'll do it.
43:48I'll do it.

44:10What type of American accent?
44:11Anything.
44:12I'm not being pussy here.
44:13It's very easy to do an American accent.
44:15An American accent you guys.
44:17We'll do the kiss on the second date.
44:28People are saying to me, you must be fierce and nervous, but you know what?
