00:04United Seeks Malaysia launched a humanitarian mission to Myanmar,
00:10responding to the needs of the communities across the conflict-affected country
00:14after a devastating earthquake.
00:16United Seeks team, with our limited resources,
00:20we attempted to do as much as possible in our 11 days stay in Myanmar.
00:28With 10 volunteers in tow, the mission provided essential supplies,
00:32medical assistance and support to displaced families.
00:36Its president, Sunil Sukvir Singh, said with the help of other organizations and local partners,
00:41the group-insured aid reached those mostly in need,
00:45particularly women, children and senior citizens in remote areas.
00:50We served 21,000 people with hot meals on a daily basis in the 10 days,
00:58and we walked the streets of Mandalay providing shelters for more than 200 families
01:06with taffling and mosquito nettings.
01:12And we touched multiple number of people with lots of love
01:18and hope that they will be continually served in this big disaster.
01:27The humanitarian effort also included setting up temporary medical camps,
01:32offering basic health care services and trauma support for communities
01:36that have lost access to medical facilities.
01:39And we can see that people here are suffering from what we call chronic diseases,
01:45and their ability to have medicines is very low.
01:50The efforts that have been put by all these organizations
01:53has helped people to improve their health faster during this period.
01:59United Seeks Malaysia has also initiated a global fundraising campaign
02:04to sustain these relief operations and expand their reach to other affected areas in the coming weeks.
02:11The United Seeks team returned back to Malaysia on the 18th,
02:17and we think a lot more need to be done.
02:20We are going back in May, first week of May,
02:25to give and to help about 15 families rebuild their homes,
02:31and a group of doctors will be following us.
02:35The main chronic diseases that they have is hypertensive,
02:39they are hypertensive, they are diabetic,
02:41and a lot of them have got eye irritation,
02:44respiratory issues, some chronic asthma cases as well.
02:51Sunil, who is the ground coordinator,
02:53says they also plan to repair their base at the Gurdwara Sahib Mandalay,
02:58the House of Worship, which was partially damaged by the quake.
03:02The base camp where we basically have settled,
03:05that base camp was actually destroyed,
03:07and what we have done is we are now committing to rebuild that base camp
03:12so that future missions will be even more successful,
03:16will be even more easy for all of us to operate and to serve people.
03:22United Seeks Malaysia is appealing for additional assistance for Myanmar's affected population,
03:28with the goal of helping them return to normal life as quickly as possible.
03:33Having people around you in this moment really gives them the feeling of being loved and being cared,
03:43and I can see that appreciation in their eyes,
03:46I can see the feeling of relief in the people when we go there and see them.
03:54The gratitude that they have for the help that has arrived is just humongous,
04:02and we can feel that as volunteers, we can feel that coming, vibrating out of them,
04:09and we feel so good, and we feel that we need to do more for these people.
04:21The March 28 quake killed more than 3,700, destroyed over 5,000 buildings,
04:27and has pushed 2 million people into reliance on aid, according to the United Nations.
