00:00Hey friends, I'm Stacey and this is Gorgeously Aging and today we're going to do a microneedling
00:09session and we're going to talk a little bit about the differences between stamping with the
00:13microneedling and gliding with the microneedling pen. Today I'm going to use the Dr. Pen A6.
00:19My preference is actually the Dr. Pen M8 but mine is dead right now and this one had a charge so
00:24we're going to use the A6 today. Both of them do a great job. There's just a few things about the
00:29M8 that I like better but both of the Dr. Pens that I'm talking about today are going to give
00:35great results. It's not so much about the pen, it's about how it's used. Obviously a super cheap pen
00:42may not give good results. Sometimes those cheaper needles do snag the skin a bit more so I've always
00:48trusted the Dr. Pens but you can certainly use a less expensive pen. The Dr. Pens aren't terribly
00:54expensive. I can get one for around $100 and it is definitely a great investment.
00:59Everything I'm talking about today I will list in the description box below and if you're watching
01:04this on YouTube you can find a complete list of supplies I use including the skin booster and a
01:09discount code at gorgeouslyaging.com slash great skin. So let's go back to the beginning so that you know
01:18step by step what should be done in a microneedling procedure. Whether you're a DIYer or a consumer it's
01:24always good to know the safety protocol. For those of you brand new I am a 53 year old master in
01:29medical esthetician. I am passionate about all things skincare and facial rejuvenation. So the
01:35first place to start is with a good double cleanse and I recommend a double cleanse with a salicylic
01:41acid cleanser. One that's affordable and from the drugstore is the CeraVe SA cleanser. The reason why
01:48I recommend an SA cleanser before a microneedling session is because it is oil soluble where other
01:55cleansers don't get in deep into the pores and get rid of the oil. This does and it allows the skin to
02:01be deep cleaned so that your skin booster does penetrate deeply into the skin. Salicylic acid isn't
02:08necessarily a cleanser you want to use every day unless you have excessively oily skin but it's great
02:13for deep cleaning once or twice a week and especially before treatments. After your double cleanse go over
02:20the skin thoroughly with an alcohol swab. You can use small alcohol packets like this or take a gauze
02:27pad, saturate it with alcohol and go over the areas that you plan to treat. You definitely don't want to
02:33needle any bacteria into the skin. By thoroughly cleansing, sanitizing your hands and doing an alcohol
02:39swab you're prepping the skin surface for successful microneedling session. The prepping also includes
02:46your tools so you want to make sure you're wiping down your doctor pen or microneedling pen. I always
02:54wear gloves but I also like to sanitize my hands. I've already washed them but being thorough I do like to
03:00sanitize my hands with hand sanitizer. Make sure I'm getting between my fingers. Let that dry in thoroughly
03:06and then put on some gloves. The topical lidocaine that I apply after doing the thorough alcohol swab
03:12will be listed in my supplies at gorgeouslyaging.com slash great skin. I've had this lidocaine on my skin
03:20about seven minutes so as I'm setting up here I'm going to leave this on and then I will remove the
03:26lidocaine from my skin. So I have my doctor pen. I'm just going to go ahead and swab it down. Sanitation
03:32is so important in doing treatments whether you're in a med spa or you're doing it at home. Making sure
03:38that everything is well cleaned and sanitized is really important to a good result. So these needles
03:45here this is a doctor pen 12 needle cartridge. These are single use disposable. You never want to use
03:52these twice. When you're done you always dispose of them in a sharps container. They can't really be
03:57cleaned and sanitized effectively and the needles get dull. You never want to use a reused dull needle
04:05cartridge on the skin. Now microneedling at home is actually very safe and effective. There's really
04:11almost nothing that can go wrong except for poor sanitation and poor aftercare. We'll talk about a few
04:17key safety factors as we get into the microneedling. So I'm just going to go ahead and put this cartridge
04:23in. You push it down and twist. Twist to lock it in. Once it's locked in it doesn't move around. Now let's talk
04:31about depth. If you're doing a shallow microneedling session say 0.25 up to about 0.75 you may not need
04:40lidocaine but if you plan to go a little deeper for more collagen induction like 1.0 millimeters and above
04:47you may need some topical lidocaine that's really a personal preference. If you're brand new to
04:52microneedling you may want to start shallow at a 0.25 to 0.50 just to get your bearings and get
04:58comfortable with the tool and the procedure before you go deeper with your microneedling. For me I find
05:04a sweet spot for both healing and getting good results is about a 1 to 1.5 depth and this is in
05:12millimeters. Most microneedling tools have a dial that you can dial the depth from 0.25 on up to about
05:212.5. Now that depth would be great for maybe revision of some acne scars or scarring on the face
05:28but you definitely don't want to damage the skin by being too aggressive or going too deep. Today I'm
05:35going to start by setting my doctor pen at 0.50 and we're going to go ahead and remove the topical
05:42lidocaine. I like to first remove the lidocaine with a damp gauze square and then go over it with a
05:48little bit of alcohol just to make sure the surface is clean and ready to go. Sometimes topical lidocaine
05:55and alcohol will make the skin have a little erythema or redness or even a little white splotchiness
06:01which is often referred to as blanching. So I did put lidocaine on my neck it kind of dried in so you
06:06may not have seen it. I put a light layer and I may do my chest as well today but I will do that off
06:12camera so it doesn't take so long but I always apply the lidocaine to my chest before I right
06:17before I do it because we don't want to over treat the skin with lidocaine and I don't want the numbing
06:23effects to wear off too soon. So I'm going to treat my face and my neck and then off camera when we're
06:28all done I'll do my chest separately and apply lidocaine to that right before I treat it for about
06:3310 minutes. But since I'm cleaning I'm going to go ahead and make sure my neck is already prepped and
06:39ready to go for when I treat it later. So when microneedling don't get too hung up on what speed
06:44and depth. When starting as a first-time DIYer or if you're new to microneedling start with a
06:50shallower depth between 0.25 and 0.5 until you get comfortable with microneedling. You'll still get
06:57nice benefits from that and as you get more comfortable you can adjust the depths and feel
07:02more confident about it. As far as speed the general rule is the deeper you go the faster the speed should
07:08be so you're not snagging the skin as you move. As you get more experienced you become very comfortable
07:14with the speed and depth and it becomes second nature in adjusting those. There are a couple
07:19different ways to approach microneedling. The stamping method is the way to start because you don't risk
07:24snagging the skin. As you get more comfortable and experienced and you know how to adjust your depth
07:30and speed you can do a sliding motion with the pen. Now there is a risk of snagging on the skin or
07:37creating some damage to the surface of the skin if you are new to microneedling so it's always best
07:42to start with a stamping technique. So I'm going to do a bit of both stamping and dragging and kind
07:47of explain the two. You get good results doing it both ways and there are some people that say the
07:53only way to do microneedling is the stamping technique because of the risks of abrasion doing
07:59the dragging technique. The disadvantage to the stamping technique is it does take a little bit longer
08:04but you're definitely doing it in a more safe way especially if you're new and unsure about your
08:10speed and depth. You always want to start microneedling with a good skin booster that is
08:15needling safe. Now this isn't your general cosmetics this is a skin booster that is appropriate for
08:20microneedling and often also appropriate for mesotherapy. So I've got my booster ready and I'm
08:26going to just apply a little to my glove and apply it to my face and then start microneedling.
08:29I'm a big fan of polynucleotide base skin boosters. They are healing and rejuvenating. They're great
08:35for fine lines and wrinkles. They help with skin elasticity and collagen production and they are
08:40just my favorite. These can be cocktailed with other skin boosters as well but for this for today
08:46I'm just going to use the Juve face. So I'm just going to put a little on my hand and just rub it
08:51onto my face. You could put some on a cotton round or gauze is better because you don't get the little
08:57fibers on your skin. So I would say use a gauze strip. I'm just going right on my hand because I
09:01don't want to waste any of this in the gauze square and I'm just going to go ahead and turn the
09:06speed up on this Dr. Pen A6. I'm just going to go to the fastest speed and that is shown on the
09:13little lights here. It's up to I think five. I'm used to using a Dr. Pen M8 so I'm at a 0.5 depth.
09:20I'm going to make sure that I have this rubbed in under my eyes. I'm going to start here since
09:26that's where I put the skin booster but I'll go up to my forehead. I usually start on my forehead
09:30but I have had my under eyes in mind all day and I think that's why I just started there.
09:36So the under eyes is a great place to do the tapping technique. It's very delicate and you don't
09:42necessarily want to swipe there. You want to be as gentle as you can. Now I'm feeling tiny pokes
09:49but it's not uncomfortable. The lidocaine does a good job of taking that down to just a slight
09:56kind of pressure pokey feeling without being painful and I'm just going to thoroughly stamp
10:03this under my eyes and if it dries out you want to add a little bit more of that skin booster. You
10:09don't want to stamp dry skin. So I'm just taking a little bit at a time. I'm just going to work that in
10:18with the stamping technique.
10:24Now I'm going to go a little deeper. I'm going to go up to a one. We're at 0.5 and I'm going to go up to one.
10:35Just stamp over that a little bit more.
10:39So what the needles do is they work that skin booster into the deeper layers of the skin.
10:44And if you're doing a little bit deeper depth and into the epidermis and dermis if you're doing a
10:52shallower depth. Both are good but you're getting that skin booster into the skin and you're also
10:58creating some controlled injury to the skin with the needling and that creates the collagen building
11:06response. And this is where we see some really great improvements with fine lines and wrinkles
11:12and with skin elasticity. Now I'm going to move to a little bit of a dragging technique because for me
11:18this is just so much more time effective. But if you are new to microneedling or unsure about your
11:25speed and depth continue doing a stamping technique and I'm just going to go I'm at the point I'm at the 1.0 depth.
11:40I'm just going to go along over my cheeks here
11:44and work that skin booster in.
11:49Polynucleotide is considered a skin healer and rejuvenator. It's very very popular in Korea.
11:56And again this product is really intended originally for mesotherapy. Little tiny injections of the
12:05product throughout the face. But for those of you who aren't comfortable with mesotherapy
12:09or just want to use this in another application. Also try it with your microneedling.
12:19Now so I don't forget I'm going to go up to my forehead. Just a little pea size amount here.
12:24Work that in. Just on this side. I'm at a 1.0. I usually go shallower on the forehead because it's
12:31so thin. But I'm just going to leave the 1.0. But you could do a 0.25 or 0.50.
12:37So the forehead is pretty bony. Again stamping is always a safe way to go.
12:49And a little pinpoint bleeding is okay.
12:54But microneedling is also so great for creepiness of the skin.
12:59I notice the improvement especially on my neck because I have some
13:08neck creepiness from losing weight.
13:16Definitely be patient with this if you're first starting out because you don't need to rush.
13:21Take the time to do the stamping technique. Sometimes because I've been doing this for
13:25so many years I get a little impatient with the stamping and move on to the gliding.
13:34So I have enlarged pores between my brows so I'd like to go over that a little bit more.
13:38Okay I'm going to work down my jawline and onto my chin.
13:45And I'm going to do the gliding technique. We're at
13:48point. We're at 1.0 as far as depth and we're at a five speed. So the fastest speed on this pen.
13:58The deeper you go the faster the needle should be moving.
14:03Now doing the upper lip is great if you're starting to have some lines. Vertical lines there or
14:10smokers lines. I've never smoked and but I do start to see some very fine lines and this definitely helps.
14:17The collagen building isn't immediate. It does take some time.
14:23You do feel immediate results of what this does to your skin. It gives you a glow. It feels more
14:29supple and hydrated. But the collagen building takes some time. A monthly micro needling session
14:35is really wonderful. So if you can do it monthly you're going to see great results over time.
14:40If you can't do it monthly if you just don't have the time or you forget just do it as often as you can
14:48every other month once a quarter. My skin is definitely better when I do this monthly.
14:54It also keeps the skin smoother in terms of the texture.
15:08And you can go when I glide I sometimes glide just one direction but it doesn't hurt especially
15:12if you're experienced to go both ways kind of in a cross hatch. So we're going vertical
15:18and horizontal. And if you have any sense that you're snagging the skin always go back to that stamping.
15:29Sometimes using your tongue
15:41is helpful just to kind of give a little pressure on a certain area
15:46or to make it taut so to speak. And you never want the skin to dry out. You always want a little
15:58bit of glide with your Skin Booster. Now I'm going to get my temple because I didn't really get that area.
16:06And a tiny bit of Skin Booster right under my brows. You don't want a needle on the soft part of the eye
16:11but right up here is safe to needle. And this is a good place to just do the stamping technique.
16:20Now the rudness is normal. Some people get that pinpoint bleeding. Some people do not.
16:27You can even stamp into your eyebrows. And sometimes that will even help with brow hair growth.
16:37This can definitely help improve a hooded eye.
16:39All right, we're going to move on to the other side of the face.
16:43So let me know in the comments if you've tried microneedling and if you use a stamping technique
16:48or a gliding technique. And you don't want to press hard. This is where sometimes if you press too hard
16:56you can snag the skin. You don't want that if you're doing the gliding technique. Just want to gently
17:01move the tool without putting pressure on it. And if you feel like it's snagging,
17:06definitely go back to that stamping technique.
17:13We're going to stamp again under the eye or around the eye. Since I've lost weight I've definitely
17:20noticed a little bit more under eye as far as puffiness or a little bit of bags there. So I
17:26will be doing some treatments on rumble.com slash gorgeously aging if you care to see those treatments.
17:32And I'm going to stamp here. Definitely want to keep that upper eyelid as tight as possible.
17:39This definitely helps around the crow's feet as well.
17:41The nose tends to be a little bony so I like to get the tip of my nose. But I don't go over the nose
17:49too much just because it is so bony. But I like to get the tip and the areas where there's large pores.
17:57This is a great place to do stamping.
17:59You can also back the depth down to 0.25 or 0.50 around the nose where it's bony.
18:17So my camera cut out right through here but I did a gliding technique through this area
18:22and I'm still at a 1.0. I'm getting a little more skin booster on my chin.
18:43Keeping it moist.
18:44I like to get my chin pretty good because I do have some enlarged pores there.
18:52Again you can do the stamping.
18:57I like to get in this area where I have some loss of volume.
19:05And don't forget to get along the jaw line.
19:14We want as much of that elastin to be produced and collagen in that area as we can.
19:25I'm noticing a little sagging here because of my weight loss.
19:28So I'm definitely going to focus on this area.
19:36And this gets better and better over time especially with monthly treatments.
19:40All right I'm going to do the rest of the neck and the chest off camera.
19:45Just so this video doesn't get too long and my camera doesn't overheat.
19:48But let's talk a little bit about aftercare.
19:50So I like to use the Avene Cyclefate.
19:53I'm just going to take a touch of water on my glove.
19:55Or you can put it on a gauze square, a sterile gauze square.
20:00And I'm just going to pat the water for the extra hydration.
20:04And then I'm going to use my Cyclefate Plus.
20:07And this is a brand new tube.
20:08I go through these.
20:09I've ordered tons of these.
20:11I always have them on hand.
20:13And I'm going to press that into the skin.
20:15And this is just a really nice rich healing cream.
20:22Great as a night cream as well.
20:24Keeps the skin moist and protected after microneedling.
20:28The first time I apply it right after I do a really liberal coat.
20:32And just let that absorb into the skin.
20:36You want to make sure to do this every couple of hours.
20:41The first 24 to 48 hours to make sure the skin is really well coated.
20:45Of course when you go out you don't have to have a white opaque coat.
20:50You can work it into the skin.
20:53But I like to have a really rich thick coat of this right away.
20:58The skin feels like a sunburn.
21:00That's normal.
21:01When cleansing the skin the first night I just kind of rinse it with water and apply more Cyclefate.
21:07The next day I'll use a very gentle cream cleanser.
21:11I'll list a couple in the description box below.
21:14You want to avoid super hot water.
21:16Just kind of room temperature water is fine.
21:18Cool water feels nice.
21:20Again it feels like a sunburn.
21:21You definitely want to stay out of direct sun.
21:24Wear a hat, a sun hat, and a mineral sunscreen.
21:28I try to avoid going outside the first 24 hours altogether.
21:31But if I do have to run an errand I'll wear a sun hat and really good mineral SPF.
21:36You definitely don't want to rub, pick, or scratch at your skin.
21:39So if it feels a little itchy while you're healing
21:42definitely use some of the bean Cyclefate Plus.
21:45The more hydrated it is the less it's going to itch.
21:48So keeping it coated is the key to successful healing.
21:51I generally don't wear makeup the first 24 hours.
21:54And for me I like to go 48 if I can.
21:57I'll wear a little eye makeup out and maybe a little lip gloss.
21:59But I try to be as gentle with my skin with just the Cyclefate Plus and a nice SPF.
22:06The worst thing you can do for your skin after microneedling is get a suntan or sunburn.
22:11You definitely want to avoid that at all costs even if you're not microneedling as it's going
22:15to kind of undo the work you put into your microneedling.
22:19Where you're building collagen and you are treating these signs of aging and sun damage
22:24and then you get a suntan you're kind of reversing the progress you just made.
22:29So definitely at all costs try to avoid sun exposure especially on your face neck and chest
22:35if those are the areas you're treating.
22:36I treat my whole body with sun protection.
22:39I try to be under an umbrella at the pool.
22:42I definitely wear sunscreen on my face neck backs of hands every single day.
22:46But to me it's just not worth getting a suntan to undo the progress that I'm making in my skincare.
22:53Not too long ago I had somebody tell me that they went through six IPL sessions to get the hyperpigmentation
22:58off their chest and then they said even with tanning the hyperpigmentation is not coming back.
23:04Well hyperpigmentation it takes a while to surface and so it is definitely coming back
23:09and those six expensive treatments of IPL were kind of like lighting money on fire.
23:15Sun is what causes that hyperpigmentation and that damage isn't seen right away.
23:20It takes some time for it to come to the surface.
23:22So protect your investment in your skincare treatments by protecting your skin.
