00:01Alright, so we are officially two months away from Kicks 99's 2022 guitar pull.
00:07So, let's take a walk down memory lane here.
00:10Every single week, I'm going to give you some guitar pull memories, alright?
00:14Some that you might have forgot about, some that you may have never known about,
00:18some that you may have been like, I was at that show, I remember that.
00:22This is my 20th guitar pull, so with it being the day that it is,
00:26let's go all the way back to 2002.
00:29That was my first Kicks 99 guitar pull.
00:32We were still in the Bell Auditorium.
00:34It was the second year that guitar pull was at the Bell.
00:37Our lineup that year was Lone Star, Trace Adkins, Mark Chestnut, Blake Shelton,
00:42Carolyn Dawn Johnson, and Cindy Thompson.
00:45Some of y'all might be sitting there going, who are those people?
00:47I mean, there's some that we're still hearing from, some that we haven't heard from in a while.
00:51A crazy thing about guitar pull 2002 was tickets were still general admission,
00:57which means if you had a ticket, you could sit wherever you wanted.
01:01The line was insane.
01:04People were lined up from like 6.30, 7 o'clock in the morning.
01:07It was chilly, it was raining, but Kicks Country, y'all were dedicated,
01:11and y'all stayed there and got your seats.
01:14As soon as doors opened, it was pretty dangerous, I'm going to be honest with you.
01:19There's a reason why we don't do general admission tickets anymore.
01:22That was the last year of general admission tickets.
01:24We went to reserve seats after that.
01:28It was a great show.
01:29I mean, Lone Star was crazy hot at the time.
01:32They had just come off of Amazed, and they had I'm Already There was a huge song for them.
01:40Trace Adkins was doing big things at the time.
01:42Blake Shelton was the new kid on the block, but he was like the hot artist at the time,
01:46like the hot new artist, because he had just had Austin, he had just had Ol' Red.
01:52The Baby was about to come out.
01:54That was his third single.
01:57So yeah, so that was kind of the new song.
01:59I'll never forget, down in the catering area at the Bell, when you go in the backstage area,
02:05there's like a hallway, and then you walk down some stairs,
02:07and there's like a little room there where they usually do catering and stuff.
02:10And I was the only one in there, and all of a sudden, Blake Shelton comes in,
02:15and he walks up and goes, hey, I'm Blake, how are you?
02:18Just super nice guy, the nicest guy on the planet.
02:20And I'll never forget that, because he walked up and introduced himself to me.
02:24It was so cool and so chill and so down to earth.
02:27Another thing I remember about that night was right as intermission was happening,
02:32I was talking to Mark Chestnut for a second.
02:34I said, well, Mark, what are you going to sing next?
02:36He goes, man, I don't know.
02:36He goes, I'm not going to say exactly what he said, because not the greatest language.
02:44He said, I've got old stuff, new stuff.
02:47I just don't know what stuff to play.
02:50Take the word stuff out, and you'll know what he really said.
02:53I said, well, man, come on, why don't you just play Bubba Shot the Jukebox?
02:56The next song that Mark Chestnut played when we came back from intermission,
03:00Bubba Shot the Jukebox.
03:02Ya boy made that happen.
03:04So it was a great night.
03:05It was so cool.
03:06I'll never forget it.
03:09It was actually my first concert.
03:11I'd never really been to a concert before.
03:13So Guitar Pull 2002, my first concert, my first guitar pull.
03:18That's my memory for this week.
