00:00Thank you so much for watching Riff TV.
00:02Now, this interview is obviously with video, but I don't interview everybody on Zoom.
00:07That's why I put it on my Talkin' Rock with Meltdown podcast.
00:10We talk to rock artists from all over the genre.
00:13So check out Talkin' Rock with Meltdown wherever you get your podcasts.
00:16And now to today's video interview.
00:20Lizzie, by the way, I like that screenshot before you hopped on.
00:24That's perfect.
00:24Oh, thank you.
00:26That was one of my, yeah, I was feeling myself.
00:30And that was, it's funny how, like, I always forget to, like, change stuff up, especially as time goes by.
00:35And then all of a sudden those photos will pop.
00:37I'm like, oh, God, that was from so long ago.
00:40You're sexy, I have to say.
00:42Very nice.
00:43I appreciate that.
00:45No, they give, they give me too much creative freedom.
00:47I remember going to that shoot.
00:49I'm like, I'm like, I don't want any shirts, just jackets.
00:51And, and they're like, yeah, sure.
00:53I'm like, really?
00:54Nobody said a word?
00:55Nobody's saying any?
00:56Okay, cool.
00:56Yeah, no shirts and jacket on, not jacket.
01:01Yeah, exactly.
01:03So anyways, you guys are coming to Southeast Michigan playing Arch Beats Needs this coming Saturday.
01:07We'll talk more about that.
01:08By the way, Collective Soul is opening up for you guys.
01:10Have you seen them before?
01:12Oh, yeah, they're awesome.
01:13And, and they're, and they're such sweet dudes.
01:15We've done some, some shows with them before.
01:17Um, to, to be completely honest, I, I believe, and I could be getting this wrong.
01:23I need to ask them this because the last time we had a, we had kind of similar, we had like
01:28a fair gig with them and I forgot to ask them.
01:31Um, I believe that we opened up for them at the Croc Rock in Allentown, Pennsylvania in
01:38like, I want to say 99, 2000 or something like that.
01:44You know, they were like on a kind of a club circuit and one of the, um, and the club owner,
01:48like there was one of those things where like, he would call us up like, Hey, I got like a,
01:53like a national band coming in.
01:55Would you open up?
01:56You know, kind of thing.
01:58Um, so I have to ask them whether that's specific or not, but yeah, they're really sweet and,
02:02um, obviously legendary in their own right.
02:04So it's, it's, uh, it's, it's gonna, it, it's crazy playing gigs with those people, you
02:09know?
02:09Yeah.
02:09I was just talking to somebody being a kid that grew up in the sticks outside of Western New
02:14York.
02:14Sometimes I, I'm amazed.
02:15Like for example, tomorrow on my schedule, I got to talk to Alice Cooper.
02:18It's like, well, how cool is that?
02:19Oh yeah.
02:20No, I've, I've interviewed Alice a bunch of times, but still the 14 year old kid in
02:23me is like, wow, this is crazy.
02:24And you're just talking about opening up for collective soul.
02:26Now they're opening up for you all these years later.
02:29It's, it's really nuts.
02:30Um, yeah, no, I, I feel you with the Alice Cooper thing.
02:33Um, cause I, I've, I've interviewed him as well.
02:36We've also gone out on tour with him and he is like the nicest dude is definitely the
02:41nicest guy in rock has the best stories.
02:43Um, last time we talked, he was telling me, um, about his encounter with meatloaf, um,
02:50years and years ago.
02:52And, uh, he's like, we were, we were at, we were at some show or whatever and meatloaf
02:56showed up.
02:56So we start talking like meatloaf, how you doing?
02:59And meatloaf, I guess, told Alice Cooper, he was going to open up a restaurant.
03:03And so Alice gets excited because he loves those little ideas.
03:06And he's like, dude, that's amazing.
03:08You could have meatloaf sandwiches, you know, like whatever.
03:11And, and then I guess meatloaf looked at Alice with like perplexed.
03:14She's like, no, it's going to be like a chicken shack.
03:17And so Alice is like, why would you do that?
03:20Your name is meatloaf.
03:21So it like just little things like that.
03:23It's like, he's, he's a good dude, but also still intimidating because it's like, you can't
03:29just turn off those things.
03:31You know, um, I remember I, I, same, same experience, but literally everybody that I've
03:37ever met or had the ability to talk to, um, and I use talking loosely because I still
03:44get starstruck, uh, with certain people, but it's, um, yeah, you can't necessarily like
03:49turn that little kid thing off.
03:50It's like, I try, you know, I'm like, I've done some things in my life.
03:54I'm putting my leather jacket on.
03:55Here we go.
03:56And then you're like, uh, it's how's the weather, you know?
04:03No, it's true because it's like, you know, we didn't, you know, we, we didn't grow up
04:06in, in families that are raised, like, for example, like slash, she was always like around
04:10like celebrities and stuff.
04:11That's probably not right.
04:12But, but to me, I was just, you know, my dad went to work 40 hours a week and came home
04:16in our little small house.
04:17And, you know, here I am my career of interviewed all my heroes, got to meet all sorts of great
04:22people.
04:23And it's just like, sometimes it's like, Whoa.
04:25And I can imagine it's probably the same thing with you guys, you know, coming from
04:27mid-state Pennsylvania.
04:28And now here we are.
04:30Yeah, that's really crazy.
04:31Like I, I was just talking to my dad about that.
04:33Cause like my dad was a third chick mechanic.
04:35My mom's stay at home mom.
04:36And we, we grew up on a farm, um, that our, our house was built in 1848 kind of thing.
04:43It's like owned by an Amish couple in PA before we got ahold of it.
04:46And it's like, I didn't, I didn't save up to go to my first concert and get tickets until
04:53I was like 17.
04:54I had to like work kind of like a weird waitressy job in order to save up for that.
04:59But it's like, it's really nuts how then all of a sudden you find yourself either performing
05:04with people that you're influenced by, or, or just having a conversation with them or talking
05:09or, or having them even know who you are is really nuts.
05:12You know, it's like, wait, you know who I am?
05:15It's so weird.
05:16Well, I have to ask you, since you grew up in a house from the 1840s, did you ever run
05:21across any ghosts?
05:23Oh, I'm sure.
05:24Yeah.
05:24Well that the house was just, it was so drafty.
05:27We had one, like there was like, do you remember those like floor electric heaters, you know,
05:32like this, like a strip, like in like, yeah, I don't know, whatever in certain, in certain
05:38spots of the house, there'd be that, but, but other than that, it was a, it was like
05:41an old fashioned coal heater that they was just like in the center of the house.
05:47And my brother and I would get into fights every morning before the school bus showed
05:51up because it was so cold during the winter that like either, like, we're just like brushing
05:55our teeth, like next to the coal heater, like that kind of stuff.
05:59And it's like, yeah, definitely ghosts, especially in the barn.
06:04Um, I feel like there've been many weird, I don't know why it's so funny you bring that
06:10up.
06:10Cause I don't know why we were never like, you know, like super like believers in ghosts
06:17and stuff growing up.
06:17But now that my brother and I are older and we like start talking about certain things,
06:21like little like presence things or like, you know, we'd be, you know, bailing hay or
06:27something.
06:28And then something would move or, you know, or like little, like just little things like
06:33that.
06:33There's like, now it kind of gives me the creeps, but, but it's, but I don't know.
06:37We were just like living in it, but I had an experience far from you in Gettysburg where
06:42we were on a, and, uh, it was like, it's, it's kind of a crazy story, but what's it, what
06:46the one comedian always says, whenever there's a lull in the conversation, just ask if anyone's
06:50seen a ghost.
06:50So I just thought I'd ask you if you saw a ghost.
06:52I love it.
06:53So what's going on with you guys?
06:56What's happening with the, in the hailstorm camp?
06:59Oh my goodness.
07:00Um, complete chaos.
07:01Um, I am one half of myself is, uh, devoted to, I'm basically, basically culling my bank
07:11of ideas that I've collected for the past two years.
07:15Um, and, uh, we're trying to figure out how to make a record out of that.
07:19Um, so we're literally spending the next, um, starting on the fourth, like from the fourth
07:25till the 22nd, we're locking ourselves in a house together and literally just trying
07:31to come up with ideas and, and write together and just have that experience.
07:35Um, and so like, that's, that's chaos in its own right.
07:40Um, also we're trying to find time to rehearse for this next coming show, you know, it's like,
07:46cause it, cause it's weird.
07:48It's like, we all go home cause like my, it's weird being an adult now because like my brother
07:53has a girlfriend and, and my bass player has a wife and two kids.
07:56And, and like, I feel like sometimes like I'm the only one that's still like a teenager
08:03and trying to figure out how to like move everything forward.
08:06But the, but the thing is, is that like, we need to have some type of rehearsal before
08:13this next show because it's like, it all gets lost.
08:15Everyone goes through their different thing.
08:16It was like, okay.
08:18Is it, uh, so like, you know, we're on like a group text thing.
08:21It's like, okay, when can you do it?
08:23Okay.
08:23That you have like weird swim lessons with your kids.
08:25Okay.
08:26Um, what about this?
08:27Whereas it used to be, we're all like just in my parents' basement, like having a five
08:32day sleepover, just writing.
08:33So it's, it's interesting now.
08:34Um, but also then the other half of me is adulting in some ways because, um, I'm getting
08:40some things done to the kitchen.
08:43Like my stove stopped working and all this stuff.
08:45So I have people coming over this week to like renovate.
08:48So I got to like clear things out.
08:49So it's a little of both.
08:51I'm like part wifey in the kitchen and part like rock star.
08:55I want to like write some crazy shit.
08:57So yeah, it's great.
08:59So what, what, what's your, what's your writing process like in the band?
09:01Do you guys do the same thing all the time?
09:03What, will you bring a bunch of ideas to them and vice versa?
09:05They bring a bunch of ideas.
09:06You guys start from, from nothing or how's it work?
09:09It's, it's, it's a little different every time.
09:11I think it's just because of, and I've been trying to analyze this.
09:14I think it's just because with every tour and every album cycle and, and sometimes it
09:20just takes a couple of weeks.
09:21You feel like you've, you feel like you're almost a different person.
09:25Like you kind of, it, like you evolve a little bit with your experiences and time moves
09:29a little faster.
09:30Um, so, um, so a lot of times, uh, we'll just kind of show up with our ideas and like
09:39Joe will have a bunch of riffs and stuff.
09:40And, and, um, actually it's funny.
09:43My little brother has, uh, become quite the prolific songwriter, um, in the past couple
09:48of years, he's really been kind of like holding onto that.
09:51And so he's been a lot of help.
09:52Um, he sent me some drum tracks lately.
09:54He's like, just write anything to this.
09:56It's fine.
09:56He like wrote a song in his head, but on the drums like, uh, yeah, why not?
10:01Um, but, uh, so there are many ways to skin the cat.
10:04So sometimes, yeah.
10:06I was going to say, do you have anything in your head right now that you're like, this
10:09is gold right here.
10:10I can't wait for the guys to hear it.
10:12Yes.
10:12Um, I, I always have a handful of those and then there's always the handful of songs
10:18underneath that, that I think are dumb.
10:22Um, like, like I, I write a lot of dumb shit that I don't think is good.
10:27Um, and there are certain moments where, you know, there will, there will ultimately be
10:34a fight about like, well, just show us, just show us, you know, whatever.
10:37And then there'll always be like one of those dumb songs that the guys are like, no, we have
10:41to do this one, for instance, um, on the album, vicious, uh, do not disturb should have never
10:49been on the record.
10:50Um, I had written that for myself, um, in a kind of club dance way.
10:58Um, one of these days I'll show you the original version.
11:01I have like a Moog synthesizer.
11:03Um, it was very much like just something funny for me.
11:08I'm just like, I'm like, I don't know.
11:10Like I had a threesome, let's write about it.
11:12Nobody's going to want to hear about that.
11:14Um, also it's weird and it not necessarily relatable to everybody.
11:19And so I just kind of kept it in the bank and, um, I made the mistake of showing it to
11:23Josh, um, our bass player.
11:26And, um, and the next day in the studio, he's like, check it out.
11:30I did your Moog synthesizer line on my bass.
11:34Check it out.
11:34I'm like, that's cool.
11:36And he's like, no, we should totally try to record it.
11:39And I'm like, nobody's going to want to hear that.
11:42He's like, I want to hear it.
11:44I want to play this bass line.
11:45Okay.
11:45So we got new.
11:46I was like, fine, let's record it, whatever.
11:48And then everybody wanted it as a single.
11:50Um, so there's a lot of weird stuff like that.
11:52Uh, and then, and then for the rest of it, there's a lot of like half things done.
11:56Like, here's a chorus.
11:57Here's, here's something that I really liked the verse, but I don't think the chorus makes
12:01it.
12:01Or sometimes it'll start with what, you know, one of Joe's, uh, riffs.
12:06He writes a lot of instrumental stuff that I'll write to, um, a lot.
12:09Um, our song uncomfortable was a lot like that where it's like, Hey, I just wrote this
12:13thing.
12:14I don't know what it is.
12:15And I just kind of took it in the studio and, and wrote melody and lyrics to it.
12:18So there's, there's many ways to skin that cat.
12:21Um, what we are in right now is the, um, is, uh, the, you know, the chaos of it all.
12:27Whereas like, not quite sure where the music is going to take us or what we're going to
12:31be excited about, but I'm excited about doing something new.
12:36Um, and really just kind of accentuating certain moments, you know, and especially considering,
12:42you know, we've been touring on this album cycle, we've been touring on back from the
12:45dead and our live show has grown a lot during this album cycle.
12:53Uh, whereas we're making these kind of physical moments and we've been writing parts for like
12:59in between songs and all of that.
13:01So I feel like I kind of want to incorporate some of those things that we've already kind
13:04of tested live that are original parts, but don't actually have a song to go to yet.
13:09So I don't know.
13:10We'll see what happens.
13:11So we're doing that.
13:12Um, you know, and, uh, among all the other things, I got a couple of collaborations as
13:17always, I got to catch up on.
13:20Yeah.
13:20Let's talk about that.
13:21But first of all, I got to say, you know, uh, people obviously did not want to hear a
13:25song about Lizzie Hill in a threesome.
13:27So that didn't work.
13:27Yeah.
13:28I see.
13:28Yeah.
13:28That was that totally, I do have, I do have to say that when that came out as a single
13:33and I was thrust into interviews about it, um, I had said to myself, well, I'm going to
13:41be brutally honest about it because I'm the one who put it out there in the world.
13:45So I can't be like, no, let's not talk about it.
13:48Right.
13:48But what I didn't realize was that, and you're an exception because you don't mind talking
13:52about literally anything, but there are some, some people, um, you know, especially in other
13:56countries and other cultures that you could tell they really didn't want to talk about
14:02it.
14:02Cause it made their face go red.
14:05Um, but their boss had said like, well, you should ask about the single.
14:09Right.
14:09Right.
14:10So, so that was kind of adorable for me.
14:12I was just, I'm like, like, oh yeah, we'll talk about it.
14:14What do you want to know?
14:15And he's like, well, I mean, where was it?
14:19Like that whole thing, it was really, it was adorable.
14:21So like, I don't know, it worked.
14:23I have interviewed people before.
14:25I actually interviewed a singer, which will remain nameless.
14:27And I asked her about their, their, their, their current song, which was kind of controversially.
14:31It's like, ah, I don't really want to talk about that.
14:32It's like, well, you wrote it, dude.
14:33I mean, come on now.
14:34You wrote it and you put it out there in the world.
14:35I don't know.
14:36Be prepared to talk about it.
14:37Exactly.
14:38That's exactly right.
14:39But yeah.
14:39And you know what?
14:40And who cares?
14:40Like, like that's, that's the beauty of it all is that you kind of, as if you are creating
14:47something from nothing and then decide to show a ton of people, it, people are going to have
14:54questions and you should just be unapologetic about it.
14:57Be like, this is what I did.
14:58I don't know.
14:59You know?
15:00Yeah.
15:00And we all lived vicariously through you in that song.
15:02Well, that's, that's good.
15:04See, that's, that's all I was hoping to accomplish with that song.
15:08All right.
15:08Let me see.
15:09Everybody just have a good time.
15:10Yeah.
15:10Let me check off my do not disturb conversation.
15:13Okay.
15:13So, uh, yeah, you were just talking about collaborations.
15:15A lot of people, when I, when I post, I was talking to you, they wanted to ask you about
15:19your collaborations.
15:20Um, of course the avatar one, I really love that record, by the way, is so killer.
15:24Oh, it's so good.
15:25Yeah.
15:26And a lot of you want to know about this Ashley McBride collaboration.
15:30Um, so that was, um, that was kind of on a whim.
15:33Um, uh, we, we recorded the song, uh, and then, um, from kind of early inception, I was like,
15:41this would be really nice as a duet, but I'd like to do it with another female.
15:44Um, but as is, um, instead of staying in our lane, we had, you know, we have a nice running
15:51list of people that, that are kind enough to like, if, if I say, Hey, let's do this.
15:56They're like, yes, when you want to do it.
15:58Um, which is beautiful.
15:59Um, and, and wonderful.
16:01Um, at the same time, we kind of wanted to blur the lines a little bit and step a little
16:06bit outside of our box.
16:07So, um, Ashley McBride kind of got brought up and like, I'm like, Oh dude, like we have
16:12like mutual friends, like, let's reach out, you know?
16:15And, um, I, it, it was like within 10 minutes.
16:18We're like, Hey, so we have this track.
16:21Um, I don't know what you're doing at the moment, but like, would you love to be on it?
16:25You know?
16:26And it was like 10 minutes.
16:27It was a full on fuck.
16:29Yes.
16:31Let me know when I'm doing it now.
16:32And she literally went in like within the next two days and ended up doing it.
16:37Um, and what a bad-ass, like a complete, I mean, like she's, you know,
16:42absolute country star, but she's kind of like, um, here in Nashville, she's kind of like
16:47the rocker chick.
16:49So she likes to dip her toe in, in our, our dark arts.
16:53And, uh, and so the first time, so we had, um, we had hung out the first time we, we ended
16:58up, you know, uh, doing some scenes for the video.
17:02She's like, I got a question for you.
17:04And, uh, this was during all of the, the, the, uh, Taylor Swift madness that was happening
17:11and in Nashville at the time, cause she was doing the arena shows.
17:14And so we were doing the video.
17:16She's like, I got a question.
17:17Who would you fight in the back of a Chili's parking lot?
17:21And at the time I, I had done some nefarious deeds.
17:25And so I was like, and I was a little hungover as well.
17:29Um, and so I'm like, well, I kind of want to punch myself in the face right now.
17:32She's like, that's valid.
17:33I want to do that every day as well.
17:35Uh, but right now, uh, the traffic, it took me like 40 minutes to get here because of
17:40Taylor Swift.
17:40So right now I would punch Taylor Swift.
17:43I'm like, I'm like, we probably shouldn't be saying that out loud.
17:46She's listening somewhere.
17:48She's in town.
17:49Um, but she's like, no, I just had that conversation, you know, every day.
17:52It's like, you got to take your earrings off.
17:53You like fight in the back of a Chili's parking lot.
17:55I'm like, all right.
17:57Would you fight me in the back of a Chili's?
17:58She's like, anytime you tell me when and what Chili's I'll be there.
18:02Anyway, she's kind of a pistol and I like it.
18:04Um, I ended up making her a, uh, um, a leather jacket that says, uh, Ashley fucking McBride
18:11on it just as a thank you for it.
18:13And, and, um, she's a, she's just a sweetheart.
18:16She's awesome.
18:17And her voice is amazing.
18:18She really, I feel like she, um, I don't know.
18:23She, she exceeded my expectations for how this could have gone as a duet because it's, you
18:28know, it's a little bit of a linear song.
18:30It's a little bit of a darker subject.
18:31Um, dare I say more adult for most of the things that we like to talk about.
18:36And, uh, so she just kind of took the reins and I just, I loved it so much.
18:41And our voices worked really well together, which, uh, you know, could go one way or the
18:45other.
18:45So, uh, I'm really, um, I'm really proud of it.
18:48Could there be any collaborations on the upcoming album?
18:52Uh, absolutely.
18:53Um, uh, we've actually literally just been talking about that because we, we've never
18:57really done that on an album release.
19:00I don't know why we always kind of do things like kind of on an offshoot, keeping the album
19:05pure.
19:06Um, but at the same time, we have so many, so many talented, amazing people that we are
19:12surrounded by.
19:13And there are still some, some people on, you know, on, uh, on my bucket list that I'd,
19:19I'd love to collaborate with.
19:21And it's funny with the, the Daughtry thing.
19:24Um, I don't know whether, you know, you want to talk about that, but that the, with the
19:27Daughtry collaboration that had been in the works since like 2010, like we had been like
19:33every year, like we're going to do something this year, every year we're going to do something.
19:36And then he finally cold called me and he's like, Hey, we're recording journeys separate
19:41ways, but we want to do it as, as do it.
19:43Do you want to do it?
19:43So I'm like, yes, send me the track.
19:45And he's like, no, no, no.
19:46I'm in the studio.
19:47Like right now I'm in Nashville.
19:48Let's go.
19:49I'm like, okay, cool.
19:50So I went down for an hour and we did it.
19:52And, uh, you know, and he's just so amazing.
19:55His voice is so great.
19:56So it's, uh, one of those things I'd like to return the favor for him as well and, and have
20:01him on something of mine.
20:03Well, it's funny.
20:04You bring up my friend, Chris Daughtry, because he texted me.
20:06He says, uh, here's a question for Lizzie.
20:08Are you ready?
20:09Oh, that's awesome.
20:11If you were abducted by aliens and you had the rare opportunity to introduce set aliens
20:16to rock and roll, you can only play one song.
20:19What song would it be?
20:20And why that's from Daughtry, um, artificial by Daughtry.
20:27That's the right answer, by the way.
20:32That's awesome.
20:33Oh my God.
20:34That's such a crazy question.
20:35And now that we have kind of like impending aliens, isn't it weird how nobody gives a
20:40crap about it?
20:41It's like, like, I grew up on independence day.
20:44Okay.
20:44Like that was a monumental film.
20:47We're all waiting for this.
20:48And everyone's like, oh, aliens, fine.
20:50And who cares?
20:51Yeah.
20:51Right.
20:51Yeah.
20:52It's kind of, let me scroll, let me scroll through Instagram.
20:54It doesn't matter.
20:56All right.
20:56So your one song for Daughtry, what'd you pick?
20:59Oh my God.
21:00Um, like, we'll definitely throw that in the mix because I feel like maybe they could relate
21:04to that.
21:05Um, I would say one rock song.
21:08Let's do, um, uh, oh man, for aliens though.
21:13Like, what is, um, how about stand up and shout by Dio?
21:20Because then that's like no connotation.
21:21There's no talk, talk of war.
21:23Everyone's just joyous.
21:25Maybe it can be like a little piece thing.
21:26Hmm.
21:27All right.
21:27Maybe, maybe, maybe they're like, oh, we know what this means.
21:30What?
21:32Hey, so you're in Nashville and, you know, you just talked about asking me, Brian, all
21:36these people that you meet out there in Nashville.
21:37So you're in that room right there.
21:39What famous people have played on that piano behind you?
21:42Oh, um, my goodness.
21:44Uh, let's see.
21:45Uh, the last one of, uh, man.
21:51Oh my God.
21:51But I, the last time that I, I had Tom Kiefer over here for, I think it was 4th of July and
21:59he was playing on my piano, but a lot of people have played.
22:04Um, uh, let's see, who would I want to play on the piano?
22:08I mean, really anybody.
22:10Um, I did not, oh, you know, a really weird thing.
22:15This is not anybody famous.
22:16Um, but I did not realize that my tour manager who also runs our sound can play piano.
22:23And I've known the guy since like 2011.
22:26And the last time he was staying at our house, all of a sudden I'm just like, oh, wow.
22:30Like Joe has gotten really good.
22:33And then I come down and it's Michael Mehar, our tour manager playing the piano.
22:37I'm like, oh, buddy, I didn't know you had like a hidden talent, but I think, yeah, I
22:41think the last like famous person is probably Tom Kiefer playing on here.
22:46What about any famous person who's played on it?
22:51Um, let's see.
22:57Um, who did I have last?
22:58Um, oh my God, I can't, I can't, I can't even think of it.
23:06I can't even think of his name.
23:07Um, oh my God.
23:12I stumped her.
23:13Yeah, you totally stumped me.
23:15Um, yeah.
23:19You're going to think about 12 people.
23:21I'm going to think of like 12 people.
23:22What the hell?
23:23Um, now I can't think of anybody.
23:25Um, well, here's the thing.
23:27Here's the thing.
23:28You're, you're, you're getting older now and you're starting to lose your memory.
23:30Like you're going to be 40.
23:31Any big plans?
23:32I know.
23:33See, my parents warned me about this.
23:35That's what it is.
23:36You know?
23:37Oh my God.
23:38It's funny.
23:38Yeah.
23:39It's coming up in October.
23:40I'm going to be 40.
23:40You know, I was thinking about this morning.
23:42I was thinking that my English teacher in middle school was like about to be 40.
23:48And I remember thinking, wow, that's such a long way off.
23:51Yeah.
23:51Yeah.
23:52But I feel, but I feel like I've treated my thirties.
23:57The way that I would have treated like my twenties, if I had been a normal 20 year old.
24:02So I'm looking forward to my new thirties and my forties is what I keep trying to say.
24:07Who am I thinking about?
24:08I can see his face.
24:09Oh, it was Rex, um, from, uh, from Pantera.
24:15Okay.
24:17So this is kind of funny.
24:19Um, I love Rex.
24:21He is a super sweet human.
24:23He came over to our house and he had a buddy with him that didn't really do anything.
24:29He just had a buddy that was kind of there to like get him home or something.
24:32And, um, and he was hanging out and he took down, but we had a, uh, like kind of behind
24:38me, we had a bass guitar and we ended up going in our basement.
24:42My brother was here and Joe was here.
24:45And, uh, then, uh, Cesar, one of the heads, uh, the CEO of Gibson came over.
24:50We all had like this jam session, just like in the key of a, let's go.
24:54And then he came up and he says to me, he's like, you know, I don't drink anymore, but
25:00I have like one beer a year.
25:02Do you have any Coors Light?
25:04And I'm like, yeah, so Coors Light.
25:07And he put his Coors Light right behind me on the, on the, on the, on the piano.
25:12And, uh, and then he's like, do you got any Jaeger?
25:15So, and so in whatever state he was, he was just kind of playing.
25:20And so I don't even know, I think it was just like an original, we're just going to
25:23go and do the thing, but it was actually really beautiful.
25:26So the guy is very turned out of all the people.
25:29That's so funny.
25:30I was at Kid Rock's house one time.
25:32Uh, I don't know how close he is to you, but, uh, um, uh, Seth, him and Seth Green were
25:36playing his own player piano.
25:38Oh, that's cool.
25:39Yeah.
25:40It played by itself.
25:40And of course, Seth Green had to pretend like he was playing it and it's like, what
25:44did you just put a, but a quarter in rock was actually playing it.
25:48And Seth was pretending to move the papers and everything like that.
25:51So, uh, that's awesome.
25:53I love that.
25:53I was actually going to come down there this weekend, but I just couldn't find the time.
25:56But, uh, Guns N' Roses played with Carrie Underwood.
25:59You were just talking about that.
26:00Did you go to that show?
26:01I know I didn't, I didn't end up going to the show.
26:03Um, I had the opportunity to go and then things got crazy around here.
26:07Um, yeah, I heard it rained and stuff like that too.
26:10So.
26:10Oh, really?
26:11Oh, okay.
26:11You might've avoided the weather, uh, but I had a lot of friends that went and, uh,
26:16they said it was amazing anyway.
26:17So.
26:18Well, I'll tell you what, uh, Lizzie, I've taken up enough of your time.
26:20Uh, hopefully there won't be a hail storm this weekend.
26:22Like we were talking about before we get on.
26:25But, uh, art speeds.
26:26I guess I'll stop doing my rain dance.
26:28You know, exactly.
26:29If you're anywhere in the Southeast Michigan area, that's happening Saturday in a downtown
26:33Roy Loke.
26:33It's a great time.
26:34There's going to be, I don't know.
26:35But I, my guess is six, seven, 8,000 that they get in that area right there.
26:39It's so much fun.
26:40And it's, uh, it's a really cool event and a collective soul opening up and stuff.
26:44So good luck with the, uh, writing and good luck with your 40th.
26:46We'll see you before then, I suppose.
26:48Oh yeah.
26:48Oh yeah.
26:49It's all good.
26:50Thank you so much.
26:51And dude, I love you so much.
26:52I'm, I'm always so delighted when we have these and.
26:57So nice of you to say, thank you so much.
26:58Uh, of course the feeling is absolutely mutual.
27:01I appreciate it.
27:02Even with my nefarious ways, writing about threasons.
27:05So I'm glad you covered that.
27:07That adds a little bit to it, but thank you so much.
