00:00I, this is supposed to be a nice story of helping an old DoorDash driver.
00:15When I see how slow he moves, and I think of him delivering to Chuck or Andy's house,
00:21and how angry he would be.
00:25He's here, he's here.
00:26He's still not here, though.
00:27I wonder how you would react to that, but there is this 73-year-old DoorDash delivery driver
00:34who was captured in a ring camera, and now that video has gone viral
00:40with, of course, a GoFundMe set up to support him.
00:47Here's the story of this very slow 73-year-old DoorDash delivery man from CBS 8 in San Diego.
00:5673-year-old Jose Frembras delivers more than just meals.
01:00He's delivering inspiration.
01:02After his story went viral on TikTok, the community responded with a special delivery of their own.
01:09Jose Frembras walks a little slow these days, but his limp has not slowed him down.
01:14I'm going to do something to keep moving.
01:18If I didn't do it, I want to be sitting in a wheelchair.
01:22These days, he's traded his semi-truck for a sedan, making DoorDash delivery starting at 4 a.m.
01:27He has a cool look.
01:28I'm still supporting myself.
01:31If I want to eat something, I'm going to get it.
01:34I'm not going to ask my daughters or my sons.
01:36But the order Marcia De La Torre made one morning to their national city home changed everything.
01:41I was talking to her, like, you know, you need to stop ordering so much DoorDash until she's like, well, look at the video.
01:47Their ring camera captured Jose carefully climbing the street.
01:52I'd be like, the ghost of a cowboy's here with your food?
01:55I swear to God.
01:56You know, they did that contest where they're like, if you see a ghost, you see a ghost on your wing cam.
02:04You could have sent that in like, you're not going to believe this, a cowboy ghost.
02:07An old West lawman's ghost is here with your food.
02:12And you know she ordered breakfast, so it's coffee.
02:14I'm sure it's freezing by the time it gets to you.
02:17Oh, poor old guy.
02:20Determined to complete his mission.
02:21And I saw the video and I'm like, oh, it was just...
02:24Just somebody that old to see working still, you know, and he barely could walk up our stairs.
02:31Luis De La Torre posted the delivery on TikTok and then went to his body shop, Luis Garage, in National City.
02:36An hour later, the video went viral.
02:38You're right.
02:38He had to walk down the stairs backwards.
02:40When you listen, when any of us start taking the stairs backwards, that's it, right?
02:45That's dangerous, too.
02:47It is.
02:47I mean, I don't know.
02:49I can see where you might feel like...
02:51Those boots.
02:52At least if I fall forward.
02:55He didn't have to go forward.
02:56Towards the steps instead of forward towards the ground, I guess.
03:03Why did he opt to do it?
03:04Maybe, like, if he pivots to turn, it'll snap everything.
03:06It's too much.
03:07That's too much.
03:08How long does it take for him to turn?
03:11I can pivot, but I'll end up in the hospital.
03:14We're going to be here a while.
03:15Jorge posted the delivery on TikTok and then went to his body shop, Luis Garage, in National
03:19City.
03:20An hour later, the video went viral.
03:22Now there's over a million views with an overwhelming community response.
03:26It went up to, like, 2,000 people just contacting me.
03:30The body shop owner started a GoFundMe.
03:32And in just three days, nearly 1,500 strangers raised $26,000 for Jose.
03:38You got to open it up.
03:39Jose had no idea about the GoFundMe until De La Torre presented the check.
03:43Oh, my goodness.
03:48Yeah, yeah, yeah.
03:49Yeah, yeah, yeah, he's right.
03:52It's too much.
03:53How much I owe you?
03:54No, no, no.
03:55You don't know.
03:55It's nothing.
03:56That's yours.
03:57It's all the TikTok, all the social media.
03:59Everybody helped out.
04:00Everybody raised money for you.
04:02His daughter, Vanessa, watches tearfully as her father receives the surprise of his lifetime.
04:07I'm proud of him.
04:08He's my dad.
04:09Jose, humble as always, drips the check with gratitude.
04:15I never see this kind of money in my life.
04:19And I appreciate to everyone for whatever they did.
04:22And I'm happy.
04:24Yeah.
04:25And God bless to everyone.
04:27In National City, Abbey Black, CBS 8.
04:30So he doesn't even understand how that happened.
04:33No.
04:34No.
04:34He's like, what social clue?
04:36How have I just happened?
04:37Tickety-tock.
04:37Tickety-tock social media.
04:39Something about a clock.
04:40However it happened, I'm just thankful.
04:43How much do I owe you?
04:45Steph, I owe you money.
04:47Where's the TikTok pay?
04:49Who do I pay for that?
04:50Nice.
04:54Just, it might be frustrating if he was delivering to you.
04:59Yeah.
04:59I mean, we got to have him not have to deliver anymore.
05:04And hopefully he won't have to.
05:06I don't think you're going to slow him down.
05:09Well, he can't go much slower than he's going.
05:12That's what I mean.
05:13I don't think you can really slow him down much more than he's going.
05:17And he's not going to stop.
05:18No.
05:18He's not going to stop.
05:2126K is not going to get it.
05:22It's not really, unfortunately, enough.
05:24It helps, but.
05:26Nope.
05:27He's going to still be having to do that.
05:29You know how much one of those bedazzled shirts costs?
05:32So much.
05:33Oh, man.
05:33No, they're not expensive.
05:35They are expensive.
05:37Those hats.
05:38The boots.
05:39The boots are expensive.
05:41They're fancy.
05:42Do you know, listen, how much of the 26K is going right to sweet wardrobe?
05:48So much.
05:49So much.
05:50So much.
05:50Stop it.
05:51Guys, so much.
05:52No, he'll just stop.
05:54No.
05:54Doing DoorDash.
05:55He is not going to stop.
05:56You're not going to stop a guy like that.
05:58Maybe he could do something else.
06:00What's he going to do?
06:01I don't know.
06:02Like cowboy rustler.
06:04He's a can't.
06:04Maybe a greeter.
06:05I feel like he'd make more money as a greeter than a. . . .
06:09I think so, too.
06:10Well, he gets up at 4 a.m.
06:11Yeah.
06:12So he's doing DoorDash for like, you know, 18 hours a day.
06:15Oh, yeah.
06:16Well, and that's only three orders.
06:18It takes him that long.
06:19It's 20 hours.
06:20You're right.
06:21I ordered breakfast.
06:22It arrived at 4 p.m.
06:23It's only 15 bucks.
06:24Yeah, that's nice that they helped him out.
06:29Yeah.
06:29Yeah.
06:29Remember that guy who saved the baby?
06:31Yeah.
06:32And he got nothing.
06:32Oh, my.
06:33Nothing.
06:34Nothing.
06:35Nope.
06:36Saved a baby.
06:37Saved a baby.
06:38This guy's just real slow.
06:40Right.
06:41Sometimes it's all you have to be is just super slow.
06:43Yeah.
06:44Yeah.
06:44Be the first real slow old DoorDasher.
06:46Oh, man.
06:47It's all the lottery.
06:48It is.
06:48Yeah.
06:48Now I hope that video of me on the ice gets out.
06:51Oh, yeah.
06:52Maybe they'll race.
06:53Yeah, look, it's a radio guy.
06:54He can barely move on the ice.
06:56Oh, when I fell at Jimmy John's on the ice.
06:57Oh, yeah.
06:58Oh, yeah.
06:59Maybe.
07:00God, that'd be great.
07:01Maybe our only GoFundMes will take off.
07:05Yeah.
07:06I was going to say maybe our OnlyFans will take off.
07:08No.
07:08Well, if we do that, we can make some money.
07:11For sure.
07:12If we do OnlyFans of us falling.
07:17They make falling content.
07:19See, I can't do that because when I fall, it'll be too hilarious and it'll go viral and nobody
07:23don't get me any money.
07:24Oh, man.
07:24That's awful.
07:25Yeah.
07:26Yeah.
07:26No
