00:00Good morning! Good morning? No, it's good afternoon. How do you guys say in America when it's afternoon? Good afternoon?
00:16Buenas tardes. Buenas tardes, hermano.
00:21I can understand and say something.
00:27Good morning.
00:29Good morning.
00:57Good afternoon, Carlos. How are you?
01:01I'm good, thank you.
01:03Obviously, it's a huge fight. It's a main event. Just curious how you feel about what does this fight do for you? If you win, do you feel like you are next in line for a title shot?
01:15Yeah, I'm really excited with this fight. You know, the second main event in a row. And it's gonna be a big fight for me. And I think after beating and Gary are gonna be really close for the fight for the title.
01:29You know, I remember this kind of stupid question, but after Ian Gary's fight with Daniel Rodriguez, I believe that they sort of became friends. They hung out a little bit. You guys have sort of had a little bit of like a back and forth on social media over the past week.
01:45Do you feel like, is there beef between you two? Like, is this personal for you or is this just business?
01:51No, it's just business. You know, it is what it is. We're gonna step on the cage, try to kill each other. But for me, just business. You know, what we talked before the fight, all the trash talking for me, it's okay. You know, it's part of the game. But stepping there is just business. No emotions, no love, no hate, no anything, just business.
02:15Business. You responded to a social media video of him where he brought up an old fight of yours. And he in his post, he called you a quitter. What was your reaction when you when you heard him say that?
02:26You know, any reaction because it was like a really bad situation. You know, was the time I was going to China every month, like fight maybe one, two, three times, you know, without any coach, like fighting alone. It's just one time per day to cut weight was really cold there, you know, sleeping on the ground.
02:50So it's the kind of situation he never passed before, you know, but it's experience, you know, it's if I'm able to be here today, it's because I passed a lot of bad situation like that. And about to be fighter or not, like he said, I'm here for bonus on the road, two main events, you know, knocking people out.
03:17Just one year in UFC, just one year in UFC. Never did the main event before, just one bonus. So I have not much to talk just to show.
03:30One more for me, you know, after the fight, do you see that maybe you and Ian would potentially have a cigarette together as like a, you know, you guys would be friends with after the fight?
03:40If he wants, for me, it's okay. You know, he looks like the guy is not kind of guy smoke cigarettes. But if he wants, I have many to bring to him.
03:51There you go. Sorry, actually, one more. We actually did an interview with Kyle Braille, who said that he believes he's going to be the first fighting nerd to get a UFC championship belt.
04:02Do you dispute that? Do you think you'll be first? Or do you know, I think there are a friendly competition for it?
04:07Man, I think Kyle is going to be the first one. I don't know. It depends the next weeks, you know, if he's going to fight or not.
04:18But if I should bet money or who's going to be champion first, I think I'm going to bet my money on Kyle.
04:27He said all four of you guys at the same time. Are you, Jean, Rufi, and Kyle, are you going to hold a belt at the same time?
04:35Do you think that's going to happen? I think so. I think so. Because we four, all the guys can become champs, like just one more fight and then we can fight for the belt, you know.
04:46Like Kyle can fight for the belt any moment, you know. I think for me, like it depends the way I beat Ian Gary.
04:55The next fight can be for the belt also.
04:57So, Rufi, just one more fight is, I don't know, maybe he fight Johnson Gage or somebody like that, will make a really good performance.
05:07Also, he can go to the belt. And also, Jean, just one fight and then Kego.
05:12It depends how good it will be our next performance.
05:17But it's really possible.
05:20Cool. Thank you. Appreciate it.
05:21Carlos, this way.
05:31How do you feel mentally and physically heading to this fight?
05:36I feel 100%.
05:38You know, last year I fought many times.
05:41Now I got a little break, you know, to take care about my health, my physically, mentally, you know.
05:51I spent a lot of money on the gym, get a little bit more stronger.
05:55So, 26 April, you guys are going to see the best, the best version of Carlos' practice.
06:02Carlos, just a couple of quick ones.
06:04You got to show off your baseball skills last night.
06:07What was that like, throwing the first pitch?
06:09Because it was, there's been a few UFC fighters that have thrown a first pitch.
06:13And I think Derek Lewis might have had one of the worst ones we've ever seen.
06:17But yours has got to be up there with the top ones.
06:20You know, it was really nice.
06:22I was really nervous before because I don't want to do like Derek Lewis, Conor McGregor.
06:28They did like a really bad first pitch, you know.
06:32But it was really nice.
06:34It was a huge honor for me.
06:35To be honest, I think fighting is more easier than baseball, but it was really nice.
06:46And then, obviously, like the main event this weekend, banger fight, headliner.
06:51But what was your initial reaction when you had heard that Jeff Neal had gotten injured?
06:55Because I feel like that was another fan favorite fight as well.
06:58Bro, it was like a mix of emotions, you know.
07:01Because my manager, Lucas, come to me and say, hey, he called me.
07:07And now every time when he called me, it's like something like really big, you know.
07:14Like really, really important.
07:16And the first time I took, I was thinking like, ah, somebody happened with my fight.
07:20And then he came and said, hey, Jeff Neal got injured.
07:24But they said they have something big for you, you know.
07:30Like if you don't fight any opponent to fight 314 in Miami, they're going to have something big for you.
07:41And I was like, it was like a mix of like angry, worry about, and something like really excited to know what they're going to bring for me.
07:54Hey, Carlos, over here.
07:56So when you got the news that Jeff Neal was out, did you stop training at all?
08:00Or did you just keep going, just assuming that you were going to get there?
08:03No, in my mind, I was like, keep training because I was like, you know, I'm going to fight in Miami anyway.
08:10They're going to find somebody.
08:12And also, on the same day, they said like Jamal Hill and Khalil Hontry don't happen, you know.
08:21And I was like, are I going to fight in Miami or are I going to do a main event in Kansas City?
08:26So is there no hesitation at all on your end and taking the main event?
08:30You know, obviously you're training three rounds for Jeff Neal, now you're five rounds.
08:33No, no, I always come to the gym and train five rounds.
08:36Having my fight, it's going to be three rounds every time I come to the gym and I train for five rounds.
08:44And then in terms of this fight compared to, obviously, Jeff, did you have to change a whole lot about what your game plan was?
08:51Or are you more focusing on what you can do?
08:53Yeah, yeah.
08:53To be honest, I think that fight, like if fight against Jeff Neal would be more dangerous and fight with Ian Gary is less dangerous, but hardest fight to win.
09:08You know, the way to win the fight is a little bit harder.
09:11But I didn't change a lot of things, just change my training partners, inspiring, you know, the guys to do like the game of Ian Gary because he's a little bit taller than Jeff Neal and also he's orthodox.
09:28He's not South Pole, but it's okay.
09:34Hey, Carlos here.
09:35So what do you think about Kansas City?
09:37How are you feeling here in the city?
09:39It's my first time here.
09:41It's my first time here in Kansas.
09:44I was on the center of the city.
09:47It was like a little bit quiet, you know, not like a lot of people on the street and things like that.
09:56But I enjoy my time here.
09:58I'm really excited to eat barbecue here.
10:00They say barbecue in Kansas is really nice.
10:03But, you know, I enjoy the time here.
10:05Meet people.
10:07I make a new friend, Randy.
10:08He is now part of the team.
10:12Yeah, I enjoy the time here.
10:13It's really nice.
10:15So, of course, you spread a win on Saturday.
10:17No question.
10:18So after that, what is your expectation?
10:21What comes next?
10:23You know, it depends how the fight ends.
10:26You know, I think if you win after five rounds by points, I would be really close of the title shot, but probably make one more fight, you know, against Sean Brady or the loser between Belal Mohamed and Jack De La Madalena.
10:46But I think if I beat him like I want, like a knockout on the third round, I would be the next for the title, you know.
10:54Nobody knocking out.
10:56Nobody finishing him.
10:58So, Shabikati is the next in the line.
11:01But he did five rounds with Ian Gary, you know.
11:04So, I think if I beat him like really bad, I would be the next.
11:09So, have you prepared to knock out him or you are expecting like a long fight or?
11:15I prepare for everything, bro.
11:16I prepare for stepping on the cage.
11:18Since the first round, try to kill him.
11:21Try to knock him out.
11:22That's my game plan.
11:23All the fights, defense, take down and knock my opponent out.
11:31Carlos, Bom Dia, you have four fights in the UFC and four times you got a bonus of the performance of the night.
11:41So, first of all, should we expect for you another 50k performance?
11:45And is it a goal to continue this run with bonuses?
11:47Yeah, you know, all the time I talk with my friends, like the first fight in the UFC.
11:52I fought and I was like, I don't want to get bonus, you know.
11:56Like me, Carlos, why?
11:58No, I don't want to get bonus.
12:00And then I got the bonus.
12:01And then after that, when I saw the money come to my bank account, I was like, man, I have to get the bonus of the fight, you know.
12:10And my second fight, after the fight, I knew already I would get the bonus.
12:15The third fight, I was like, no, I got the bonus already.
12:18For sure, I'm going to get the bonus.
12:20On my last fight also, I said, no way, for sure they're going to get me bonus.
12:25And I'm going to fight young Gary.
12:27And guess what?
12:28I'm going to make the bonus again.
12:30Wish you luck.
12:31And a question about your teammate, Kayo Boralio, who wants to fight Kamzat Shimaev on the international fight week.
12:38What do you think are his chances?
12:40Bro, to be honest, you know, Kayo, I think he's the most hardest fight to Shimaev, you know.
12:46So, we know Shimaev has a good pressure, good wrestling, you know.
12:51But all the time sick, all the time cancel the fight, all the time, you know.
12:56Of course, it was a really good fight against Robert Whittaker, you know.
13:00It was like really, really crazy to see how he finished the fight, you know.
13:05But he needs to go to the ground to finish the fight.
13:09And go to the ground with Kayo, it's not a good idea, you know.
13:13He has a really, really, really, really, really, really good jiu-jitsu, you know.
13:17And I know that the game plan to fight comes out.
13:20I think during the beginning of the fight, it's going to be hard, you know.
13:26It's going to be hard.
13:27But after he sees Kayo not give the back to him, doing some guard, and then get up, and really nice strike, it's going to be hard, you know.
13:37Of course, everybody says, ah, Shimaev is good, good wrestling, but it's MMA, five rounds against Kayo, it's hard.
13:47So, what's better, Russian wrestling or Brazilian BJJ?
13:50If fight against Kayo and Shimaev for five rounds, I'm going to bet on Brazilian BJJ.
14:00Obrigado.
