China’s state-sanctioned Catholic church has branded Pope Francis a “Western stooge” and criticized Vatican–Beijing agreements as threats to national sovereignty. Underground congregations are now pressing for unity despite strict party surveillance, while hardline officials accuse the late pontiff of meddling in Chinese religious policy. Human rights groups condemn the broader crackdown on Christians, even as experts like Michel Chambon praise Francis’s diplomatic reset with Beijing. With the next papal selection looming, Chinese Catholics face a pivotal choice between state control and underground solidarity.

00:51昨天去参与彌撒
00:53也有很多教友都落泪
00:55自己也很上心
00:57I think it's important to me.
01:22I think it's important to me.
01:24The church is a Christian church, and the faith is a freedom.
01:27This is the Christian church.
01:30It is not a Christian church anymore.
01:33The faith is the church of God.
01:36The Lord Jesus said that my country is not in this world.
01:54There are many people who are living in the world.
02:04What I'd like to say is that you don't want to do this.
02:08To do this, it means to destroy the body of Jesus.
02:11This is a big罪 for the Lord.
02:15Jesus is the Lord of God.
02:20The truth is that the Lord is the Holy Spirit.
02:26You don't want to destroy the Holy Spirit.
02:29The Holy Spirit is the Holy Spirit.
02:37The Holy Spirit is the Holy Spirit.
02:42The Holy Spirit is the Holy Spirit.
02:52The Holy Spirit is the Holy Spirit.
02:55Pope Francis has played a key role to reframe and reset dialogue with China.
03:02I insist this transformation is not just about Chinese Catholics.
03:08It's about state-to-state collaboration between the Holy See, the Pope, and China.
03:15Between the two, Vatican and Beijing.
03:19And Francis has been able to transform a situation that was going nowhere when he took office.
03:26And today, there is some kind of a framework of collaboration.
03:32The Holy Spirit is the Holy Spirit.
03:34Of this, the Holy Spirit is the Holy Spirit.
03:55It was very warm and close to people, the simplicity, the humility, the proximity really
04:21caught the heart of many many people in China and around the world. So it's personal style touch on one
04:29hand. On the other hand, Pope Francis was firm, brave, bold and engaging when it comes to political
04:40relation and political action. So he, as I mentioned earlier, he's been able to reset
04:46dialogue between the Vatican and Beijing.
05:16For international politics, the Holy See cannot afford not having a working relationship with the
05:26second world power, whatever this power is. The Holy See cannot be and doesn't want to be
05:34just aligned with the West or with America. It's building it for its own sovereignty and for its
05:42capacity to serve international affairs, it needs a working relationship with China. So the next Pope,
05:50whoever they're going to select, will be selected on his capacity to engage with China.
06:12The Holy See cannot afford not have a working relationship with China.
