00:00So if we have a look at these proposals, they've been outlined vaguely, but what are the main sticking points? Is it still territory, Sean?
00:09Well, the Russians would have you believe it's just territory, as would the Americans, because basically they're talking about the American proposal says that the Russians will not take all of the four regions,
00:22Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhia and Helsinki, but they will take ownership of Crimea.
00:30They would have to move to the east of the Dnipro River. There's a couple of minor bits and bobs.
00:36But of course, what actually Ukraine probably would be prepared to see territory.
00:40But the one thing it can't do is leave itself open in a year, two years, five years time for Russia taking another bite of the cherry.
00:48So it needs to have security guarantees. Without those, bluntly, it can't agree to ceding Crimea.
00:56It can't agree to ceding the other territories because that would simply give Russia a foothold and ready to actually pounce in the future.
01:03And of course, there's a point of principle here that no nation is comfortable after the Second World War to tolerate nations taking territory by the use of force.
01:13So quite bluntly, it does appear a little bit naive for everybody to expect this to deliver peace, particularly given that Putin is on the front foot.
01:21He is winning at the moment. And therefore, why would he stop?
