00:0029th overall, the Washington Commanders after a historic 2024 campaign
00:05out of the offensive line to protect their biggest asset in Jaden Daniels.
00:09The left tackle out of Oregon, Josh Connerly Jr.
00:13is the 29th overall pick made by Washington or made by the Commanders.
00:18He is the second Oregon player to go in the opening round tonight.
00:22And Kev, we could see why Washington makes this decision.
00:26Want to protect Jaden Daniels?
00:28You get a really good offensive tackle to do just that.
00:30It is an upset, though.
00:32A lot of thought that this team would look towards the defensive line.
00:36A little wide receiver shatter if maybe there was a falling, say, a Mecca.
00:40Buka potentially obviously went much further than this.
00:43So I think I even saw some running back buzz, by the way, for Washington.
00:47I saw some of Marion Hampton, Trevion Henderson.
00:49Hampton off the board, Henderson on the board.
00:52They go with Connerly.
00:54Certainly a guy I've seen in round one.
00:56But, man, I saw way more Josh Simmons than Josh Connerly here.
01:01And the more can agree, Simmons was a very big favorite to go inside round number one.
01:06Based on the teams remaining, it's got to be KC or Bust.
01:10Yeah.
01:10Straight up.
01:11Yeah.
01:12It's an okay pick for them.
01:14You know, at the end of the day, they want to run the football and they want to protect
01:17Jaden Daniels, right?
01:18He's a guy that I think, you know, from an athletic standpoint, makes sense.
01:23But, again, he's not very well built.
01:25I still think he can add, you know, 20 pounds of muscle.
01:28I think he's a little bit soft in terms of that aspect.
01:31But, again, you know, you talk about best player on the board and a team need and what
01:36they want to do from an offensive perspective.
01:38Maybe they felt running back wasn't that much of a value at this point.
01:42They could maybe third, fourth rounds pick up a guy like, you know, Dylan Samson or another
01:47home run hitter in that regard.
01:49Three more picks remain here in this first round on night number one in Green Bay.
01:54The Buffalo Bills at 30th, the Kansas City Chiefs at 31st, and, of course, the reigning
01:58Super Bowl champs in the Philadelphia Eagles end out our 32 picks on night number one.
02:04Blue and Cap, quickly to you.
02:06Of course, the commanders so over-exceed expectation in Jaden Daniels' rookie year.
02:11They win 12 games.
02:12Their preseason win total was seven and a half.
02:14They get to the NFC title game for the first time since 1991 in more than three decades.
02:20I think there is a thought, all right, well, how do you back that up when you were so much
02:23more successful than anybody really anticipated in a pretty stellar offseason so far for Washington?
02:30How optimistic should the commanders be entering 2025?
02:33Yeah, no doubt.
02:34I mean, Debo and Laramie Tunsil, two needs.
02:37They get Connerly here.
02:38I think the only surprise for me in that, obviously, you're always looking to upgrade
02:43the overall talent of your team, but a pro football focus finished at the end of the
02:47year that had them ranked as the 10th best offensive line in football, so they had done
02:52a much better job, clearly, from the years before.
02:55Dan Quinn got the program on the right tracks, and Jaden Daniels was there to reap the benefits.
02:59Mike, probably, though, bottom five talented offensive line.
03:03They just didn't have a lot of talent.
03:04So Brandon Coleman, who was their left tackle last year, he'll move to guard.
03:07Tunsil's their left tackle.
03:08Connerly will play right tackle.
03:10Biotis is their center, okay?
03:13And Sam Cosme is terrific towards ACL at right guard, so now they can move Coleman in for
03:17him until he's ready.
03:19And by the way, Andrew Weiler, the right tackle last year, took a pay cut, so this had something
03:22to do with it.
03:24Now they can compete with the big boys.
03:25See, that was the problem last year.
03:27It was sort of patchwork on their offensive line.
03:29Now they're building it for the franchise quarterback.
03:31I love what Adam Peters, their general manager, is doing right now.
03:33And clearly, the Eagles in their division are a huge threat to them.
03:37Year in and year out.
03:38But the commanders made a huge leap forward in year one.
03:41We'll see what it looks like in year two.
