00:00My name is Gavin Desi, I'm the community lead for the Boys Game.
00:05So we have a youth initiative called Youth Rugby Rising.
00:08The initiative is aimed at putting a spotlight on youth rugby, particularly in our club game.
00:14We currently have the highest number of under 17s and under 18s we've ever had since digital registration started within our youth game.
00:23So it's important for us to put a spotlight on them and show the rugby community what our youth game looks like.
00:29There's lots of elements to the Youth Rugby Rising programme. There's spotlighting games, some of which are cup finals, some of which are local derbies,
00:37some of which are really good transition and retention examples.
00:42And that is really one of the key initiatives within the Youth Rugby Rising programme.
00:46Our retention and transition focus with the players within those age groups.
00:51We currently in a position where we have the highest number of under 16s we've ever had within our game since digital registration started.
00:58We have around 2,500 under 16s in our game. So it's important that we show them a positive experience of youth rugby
01:06and what it can look like from in the next few years. We've run this initiative for a number of years now.
01:12Our attention has increased since we've been running the Youth Rugby Rising programme.
01:16It's gone up to 70% of under 16s transition into youth rugby. And we also know when they're in youth rugby they're having a good experience
01:24and they're staying within youth rugby. So Youth Rugby Rising puts a spotlight on games such as videoing via video cameras,
01:33interviewing parents, coaches, players, pre and post game,
01:39putting in some posters around what it looks like with youth rugby and showing them positive images.
01:45And lots of this has gone across our social media channels, whether it's through our regional teams
01:51or whether it's through our national WIU community handles and there's lots of positive experiences being talked about by players, coaches and volunteers within our space.
02:03So there's some really good examples of how clubs nationally transition their players from under 16s into youth rugby,
02:13as well as transitioning their players from youth into senior rugby. We have examples of St Peter's a club in Cardiff
02:19who run a first, a second, a third and a youth team. And a lot of their players are coming through their systems from 16 into youth
02:26and then are staying within their club set up from youth into their senior teams.
02:30National needs other examples including Penalta who have done something very similar with their second team now being in the national leagues
02:38and the demographic of their team being quite young with a lot of their players coming through their clubs.
02:43We've seen that in West Wales also with clubs such as Newcastle Emlyn, again who are in our national league set up with local players
02:51who are transitioning through their mini junior section into youth section and then eventually going into their senior section
02:57representing their senior teams.
03:00And representing their senior teams.
03:02Well, thank you very much for joining us for having points.
03:03I believe in about 20 years have been just going to one of our teams in Singal
