Transcript
00:00Gab, thank you for joining us. We round off our home league campaign in a good way, but in the second play there was some heartbreak at the end when obviously Burton snatched a win away, which doesn't have us out of it mathematically, but it will be some turn around. So just sum up your emotions right now first.
00:17Yeah, I suppose just deflating really, because like I said, we obviously, good performance, good win, and then obviously, you know, we get the word that Cambridge had obviously equalised, well we had heard the fans obviously, and then I was just hoping that they'd see it out, and unfortunately we found out on the pitch, which is massively deflating obviously, you know, after kind of putting in such an effort today, obviously last week, and obviously I suppose since the gaffers come back,
00:47back in, you know, we've really, we've tried to make up as many points as possible, so yeah, it's just deflating, but look, you know, it's just one of those, just keep professional, there's another game next week, and you know, we'll just, we'll go and attack that.
01:02Yeah, as we said to Scott though, in many ways the players can take immense pride, when Scott came back in, there was nine games to go with 12 points over term, and here we are in a way, still in it on final day potentially, so that in itself is very,
01:17impressive, since he's come back in, he's just saying he's had a 50% win ratio, so in many ways, the players towards, you know, the end of the season and throughout have done everything that we can, and it's a credit to you guys and the club as well, that we're still fighting, I suppose.
01:30Yeah, I think that was just a message like, from the gaffer, and then amongst ourselves, it's just to kind of keep, keep everybody else honest, and you know, we can only do our job, not kind of focus, unfortunately, on what others do, because you see today, it obviously kind of kicks in the teeth,
01:46if you do, if you're dependent on other results, so yeah, I think since, you know, since the gaffer's come back in, we've, performances have been good, and you know, we've picked up some, some big results,
01:57and like I said, it's just unfortunate that we were kind of dependent on other results to, you know, to kind of get us out of that.
02:02Yeah, and we were saying to Scott, regardless of what division we end up in next season, there's been a lot of players out there have put in some good auditions for next year as well,
02:11we know contracts are up for grabs, et cetera, I would assume that you'd class yourself in that category on the basis that, you know, minutes, you know,
02:18haven't been too easy to come by for yourself this season, but, you know, how have you found it out there for the last couple of games, because you made a real impact?
02:24Yeah, I've absolutely loved it. Yeah, it's probably, I won't kind of deny, it's been probably the most frustrating season I've had in my career.
02:32Obviously, it's just, it was difficult throughout the season, and seeing the boys struggle as such, like, and kind of knowing that I could help,
02:41and I wanted to be out there contributing and, you know, helping them, and that was the frustrating bit for me,
02:46is kind of just sitting and being a kind of passenger on the side, like, so yeah, it was difficult, it's been a difficult season, but I'm glad, obviously, you know,
02:56the Gaffer's given me an opportunity since he's come back in, obviously, I had to be patient first when he came back in, but he's given me an opportunity the last couple of games,
03:03so, you know, I'm really grateful for that, and just enjoying it, and just, you know, just pleased that I can, obviously, try and contribute as much as I can between now and the end of the season.
03:12Yeah, and obviously, we're still in it, going into, you know, well, potentially still in it, obviously, we've got to wait for Tuesday.
03:19I suppose the only way you can sum it up is, you know, that's just football, isn't it?
03:22It has, as Scott said, it has a cruel sort of habit of kicking you the teeth when you least expect it, so, as one of the senior players in there, you know,
03:30it's one of your jobs now to sort of, you know, keep morale up, because, as Scott said, we want to be winners going into the end of the season regardless.
03:36Yeah, like, it's a, you know, it's a good habit to have for winning, so, yeah, like,
03:40our aim is going to be to go and win again next week, no matter what happens, because, like you said, he'll demand that we're successful next year,
03:50and, you know, the way to do that is, obviously, build a bit of momentum between now and the end of the season, which, you know, we have with the results so far,
03:57and, you know, we'll definitely try and build on that next week, and give the fans something to shout about, you know, whoever travels up there,
04:05and, you know, they've been brilliant all season, and just give them something to kind of go out on the highway.
04:10Yeah, finally, from a club point of view, obviously, we heard the sad news that Ken Blackmore, you know,
04:14club stalwart, passed away this week.
04:16You put a lovely reply to Ben, Ken's son, saying that the players will go out there and give absolutely everything to try and,
04:22obviously, get a win for Ken, and how pleased are you that you've been able to do that?
04:25Yeah, look, we spoke about that for the game, obviously, a bit of a legend of a, you know, supporter at the club,
04:31but by all accounts, and, like I said in my tweet, like, people like him are the lifeblood of the club,
04:38so, yeah, he'll be, like, sorely missed, and I think it was only fitting that we could go out there and give everything
04:44and run about and try and get the three points for him.
04:48That's it.
04:49When you look at the last three, certainly the last three performances, Birmingham, Miami, Exeter, and today,
04:55how, you look at the team and you think, how are we down in this position, don't you?
04:59Because, I mean, you've played so well and you've beaten some really good teams.
05:04Yeah, I suppose that's the frustrating bit, because you see the quality, you know, we have in the squad,
05:09even some of the players not even making the squad, it's just, like, serious, serious quality, like, so.
05:15We've, you know, that's probably been the frustrating bit this year, is that we probably consistently just haven't put in enough good performances,
05:23that we're capable of, you know, I would say anyway, so, yeah, it is a bit of a head-scratcher,
05:31because, you know, you look around the dressing room and see the quality and see how tight the group is
05:37and kind of wonder how we've ended up where we are, but the league table doesn't lie, I suppose.
05:41We've not been good enough over the campaign, so we're just going to, obviously, have to kind of accept that and learn from it.
05:49You know, it's part of learning your career, like, even me as an older player or such, still learning and, you know,
05:57it's one to kind of, you don't want that feeling again, so, yeah, it's just something to learn from.
06:02Yeah, and you said it's been possibly your most frustrating season.
06:06How do you handle that as a player? I mean, obviously, you're very experienced in that, but how do you handle it?
06:11What do you do to look for support in that during those sort of times?
06:13Obviously, my teammates have been brilliant as well. The missus, obviously, she's been getting an air full all season, unfortunately,
06:24so I have to shout out her. She's been brilliant, obviously.
06:28And just myself, just kind of knowing myself what I can do and not kind of doubt myself, obviously,
06:35and just hoping that opportunities will come and kind of just reminding myself that, you know, before, I suppose,
06:42you know, everyone had an opinion. I had my own kind of purpose and not to forget that and not to forget what I'm good at
06:49and, you know, what I've done in my career and what's got me to this point in my career,
06:54so just to keep reminding myself of that and backing myself when I got opportunities that, you know,
06:58I could obviously do well and contribute and I'm happy to be able to do that the last couple of games.
07:04Yeah, and whatever division you're in next season, there's optimism going forward, isn't there,
07:08given since Scott's come back in the performances?
07:11Yeah, absolutely, yeah. You know, you can see, you know, when he came back in,
07:16it gave everyone a massive lift, you know, the fans, obviously, you got here and rightly so
07:22from what they achieved last year, so, and he knows what he wants and, you know,
07:28he sets high standards for us all and nobody drops below it and that's the way it should be,
07:34obviously, and he'll, you know, whatever happens and whatever league, like I said,
07:39we're in next year, he'll demand that we're successful, so I suppose it might be a bit of a
07:46negative time at the club, like if, you know, the kind of inevitable does happen,
07:51but the club can obviously know it's in safe hands and, you know, look positively next season
07:56because, you know, I think there's, you know, there's bright days ahead, should I say.
08:01Good luck next week.
08:02Yeah.
08:02Good luck next week.
