Is the the Continuing Church of God doing what Jesus said in Mark 16:15-17? If so, how? Are demons alive and well? Are any in the Continuing Church of God casting out demons today?
Demons are an intriguing and frightening topic. Both the Old and New Testaments give countless examples of the children of God fighting against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, and against spiritual wickedness in high places.
In the modern world, demons are dismissed as more of a fantasy than a reality. Yet, demons do exist. Some in the Continuing Church of God are claiming victory over demons through Jesus Christ.
However, there are still others that actually create coloring books of demons made especially for little children. Little children that may be highly susceptible to demonic influences. This is a shameful act at best.
Dr. Thiel tells of ways the Continuing Church of God is fulfilling the commissions that Jesus gave. He also quotes scriptures related to demons and even casting them out in this video.

00:00Greetings, friends. This is Steve Dupuy for the Bible News Prophecy Program with Dr. Bob Thiel,
00:10bringing you news and analysis of world events in light of Bible prophecy. Dr. Thiel, talk to us
00:16today about Jesus' commission on demons, baptism, and the gospel of God, and some of what the
00:21continuing church of God is doing related to these matters. Well, that commission is in Mark
00:27chapter 16. I'm going to start reading verse 15, New King James. Jesus said,
00:32Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized
00:38will be saved, and he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those
00:43who believe. In my name, they will cast out demons. And the continuing church of God is doing this.
00:51How so? Well, in addition to being on the internet and radio stations all around the world,
00:57we've had our booklet, The Gospel of the Kingdom of God, translated into over 2,000
01:02dialects and languages. We also physically travel to fulfill that commission. A couple of days ago,
01:10I got an email from Kenya-based evangelist in the Continuing Church of God, Evans Oshing,
01:16who's in Malawi on a baptizing tour.
01:21He said he met four congregations. He took time teaching them many subjects concerning repentance.
01:29True Church of God, my people must be baptized, the benefits of baptism. He said he talked about the
01:34kingdom of God and God's ordained feast. And he answered questions about baptism. He said he baptized
01:4025 people, most of them were women. Then he said, during the ceremony, I baptized one lady who had
01:47demons. We didn't know this till I had immersed her in water. From coming out, she started saying
01:53foreign languages and started beating people, and she wanted to run. It forced me to pray in the water
01:59till the demons left her and she became normal. And after that, she went and joined others who already
02:04baptized. We showed the power of God in the water. It was a miracle, end quote. And so is baptism. You know,
02:13Jesus said, Luke 15, 10, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.
02:23In today's world, there doesn't seem to be much recognition of demons. Has Evans had much experience with
02:29demons, or was this a one-off event?
02:31Well, I asked him about this yesterday, and he sent me an email that said, yes, I commanded demons to
02:39leave, and they left the lady and went. But it's not my first time to command demons to leave. When
02:44demons caught my daughter in school, I had a SDA pastor who's praying for her, but the demons didn't
02:54go. Then I reached out and commanded them to leave, and they left my daughter and we remained safe.
03:01He said, the other day we went to preach in a certain home. We found a man who handled witchcraft,
03:07and he was using demons to do miracles. When we reached that home, the man ran away, told his
03:13brother he couldn't come where we are because the demons he's have were afraid of us because we were
03:19holy men. And anyway, Evans Ossing, he was once a member of the Sanctuary Adventist Church,
03:28then Worldwide Church of God and other Church of God groups, and he's been a part of the
03:33continuing Church of God since 2014.
03:37Can you give us some New Testament comments about demons?
03:40Yes, Jesus sent 70 men out. And when they came back, this is Luke 10, verse 17, they returned with
03:50joy, saying to Jesus, Lord, even the demons are subject to your name. So we see that demons are
03:58subject to the name or the authority of Jesus. Now, critics might wonder, how could an evangelist
04:04baptize somebody with a demon? But think about something Jesus said about himself, John 6, verse
04:1270. Did I not choose you, the 12 apostles? And one of you is a devil, or as Old King James says,
04:19is a demon. So Jesus had selected somebody that way. Furthermore, Simon Magus was actually baptized
04:27by Philip, the evangelist. Have you personally ever encountered demons?
04:35Yes, I've encountered people with demons. So demon encounters are not limited to Africa or the
04:41Middle East. Years ago, a man came to my office, who was a part-time minister of a Pentecostal sect I
04:49was unfamiliar with. He told me that the Holy Spirit had told him to call me, and that the Holy Spirit
04:55told him to follow my advice. And I wouldn't have thought too much about that. I've long been in a
05:01non-medical branch of the health profession, and many have commented that they believe God told them
05:06to see me. But this man was different. He told me some story about a minister in his sect, told all
05:14their members to throw their medications into a pile and burn them. And when they did, the medications
05:21made out demonic sounds because these were demons that possessed them. But I didn't see that from
05:28the Bible. But he also said to me, the man, the Holy Spirit told me that God is well-pleased with you,
05:37and you know more about the Bible than all the televangelists. Now, those statements concerned
05:43me greatly because we had not discussed the Bible in any depth. But when you were talking to this
05:51Pentecostal man, did that bring any scriptures to mind? Yes. But one thing, though, we need to
05:59understand that all the spirits who are against us don't always try to fight us directly as
06:04Illimaeus the sorcerer did when he tried to turn a government official away from the faith. In Acts
06:10chapter 8, starting in verse 9, we see a story about one who was involved with demons who seemed
06:16to be supportive of the truth, but he really was not. It says there was a certain man called Simon.
06:22Now, this is Simon Magus. He previously practiced sorcery in the city, and he astonished the people of
06:27Samaria, claiming he was somebody great. People heeded him because he astonished them with the
06:33sorcerers for a long time. But when they believed Philip as he preached things concerning the
06:39kingdom of God in the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized. Simon also believed,
06:45and he was baptized. He continued with Philip. He was amazed, seeing the miracles and signs that were
06:49done. Now, when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God,
06:55they sent Peter and John to them. He came down, they prayed for him, and they might receive the Holy
07:01Spirit because they hadn't had it yet. And those, they'd been baptized. But then the apostles laid
07:09hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. Now, when Simon Magus saw through the laying out of
07:16the apostles' hands, the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money, saying, hey, give me this power
07:21also. So anybody, I lay my hands on, I'll get the Holy Spirit. But Peter said to him, your money perishes
07:26with you because you thought the gift of God could be purchased with money. You have neither part nor
07:31portion in this matter, for your heart is not right in the sight of God. Repent, therefore, of your
07:36wickedness and pray, God, if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you. For I see you were
07:42poisoned with bitterness and bound by iniquity. So you notice that Simon believed, but he was not
07:48converted. And James, by the way, James 2, verse 19 says, even the demons believe and tremble.
07:56And it's also reminded me of an encounter Paul had in Acts 16, about a woman with a slave girl who
08:03had various spirits. And she'd go out and say, these are the men of God, they proclaim the way
08:08of salvation. And after a while, Paul, the Bible says, got annoyed and said, I command you the name
08:14of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And she came out at the very hour. So she was supportive of the
08:20proclamation and the way of salvation, yet she was demon-possessed.
08:26It seems...
08:27And the other thing that I've run into is people who've told me on various occasions that
08:31their angels told me to see them, or their psychics told them to see me. And since these
08:38psychics didn't know me, I believe they were influenced by demons, or perhaps the people were
08:43demon-possessed themselves.
08:45It seems like those demons actually sought you out.
08:53Well, demons probably know who are Christians, because you read in Acts 19, starting verse 13,
09:00it said there were some Jewish exorcists. They took it upon themselves to call on the name of the Lord
09:05Jesus over those who had evil spirits. They said, we exorcise you by Jesus whom Paul preaches.
09:11And an evil spirit answered and said, Jesus, I know, Paul, I know, who are you? And a man of the
09:18Holy Spirit leaped on them and overpowered and prevailed them. Anyway, I wondered if perhaps
09:24demons sent some of the people to see me who they possessed so I could help their health and they
09:29could live longer. Have you had any other demonic encounters? Well, perhaps the first one that may
09:37have been happening was the first time I attempted to attend a Church of God service. Now, this was
09:43not our type of Church of God, and I didn't know this, even though they met on Saturday. And I had
09:50read some Worldwide Church of God literature at this time. Anyway, after several minutes of this
09:55service, the pastor, associate pastor, and some of the attendees started to say, Jesus, Jesus,
10:01Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. And he said this a bunch of times. And Jesus said, you know, don't use vain
10:06repetition when you pray in Matthew 6, verse 7. So I left. And I decided right then and there that
10:12one needs to be careful of what Church of God one attends with, as this one was not a true one.
10:18And in the end times, by the way, most Church of God's are not Philadelphian.
10:22And probably the last time I directly dealt with someone I thought was a demon was somebody who
10:27telephoned the Continuing Church of God. He said he had one. And I believed he had one. And I asked
10:33him why he thought he had one. He wouldn't give me a straight answer. Basically, he kept lying to me.
10:38After several phone calls, though, he admitted he knew he did have certain sins that brought this on,
10:43but he didn't seem to want to repent.
10:46What about demons impacting society?
10:49Well, we've got the situation now where many people want to encourage kids to talk to their
10:59angels or to demons. And demons are around, and they still are influencing many.
11:11Give us an example of demonism that is directed towards children.
11:16There's actually a children's book called The Children's Book of Demons.
11:21It teaches kids how to summon demons.
11:24They tell it, it's a fun way of taking care of everyday problems, such as chores, homework,
11:31and getting rid of bullies.
11:35And it says, here's a summary by the book's author.
11:39Don't want to take out the trash tonight?
11:41Maybe you're swimming in homework. Perhaps that big bully is a real drag.
11:44Well, grab your colored pencils and do strong skills and dial up some demons.
11:54And so that's what they were doing.
11:57It's trying to encourage kids to go the way of demons.
12:03And, you know, this is just terribly wrong.
12:06It's giving kids a false way to cope.
12:08It reminds me of what Peter wrote, 2 Peter 2, starting in verse 18.
12:12For when they speak great, swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lust of the flesh, through lewdness.
12:20The ones who've actually escaped those live in error.
12:24While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves to corruption.
12:28For by whom a person is overcome, by him he'll be brought into bondage.
12:32The coping liberty that that book of demons is pointing to is basically bondage of sin.
12:38Obeying a demon is to be brought into bondage is an interesting way to put it.
12:46How does the Bible address demons?
12:48Well, let's look at a couple of things in the book of Deuteronomy.
12:52Deuteronomy chapter 32, starting in verse 16, we read that they provoked God to jealousy with foreign gods.
12:58With abominations, they provoked him to anger.
13:01They sacrificed to demons, not to God.
13:04The gods they did not know, to new gods, new arrivals that your fathers did not fear.
13:08We also read in Deuteronomy 18, there shouldn't be anyone around you who has a son or daughter passed through the fire who practices witchcraft or a soothsayer, one who interprets omens or a sorcerer, conjures spells or a medium or a spiritist who calls up the dead.
13:26These things are an abomination to the Lord.
13:29So we're not supposed to call upon worship those in the demonic realm.
13:34And demonic possession can happen and it's real.
13:36In Jesus' day, there were adults and even children possessed by demons or evil spirits.
13:42Today, in certain sects, there are various efforts for higher beings or their angels, etc.
13:51And there shouldn't be books for kids encouraging this.
13:55Anyway, in the continuing church of God, we strive to follow Jesus' commission.
14:01We're preaching the gospel of the kingdom to the world as a witness.
14:04We're going to many countries and baptizing in the name of Jesus is what we're supposed to do.
14:10And also, warning about, and yes, when necessary, when appropriate, even casting out demons.
14:17Like Jesus said in Mark 16.
