02:34I see you've got somebody walking up to the address.
02:41There we go, there we go, this is a good image.
02:45Not sufficient for ID.
02:49In Harrow, north-west London,
02:51D.I. Kelly Schoenhager is reviewing CCTV footage
02:55from a number of armed burglaries.
02:58So they go away and they steal the car from outside the premises
03:00as well as a safe.
03:01Over the past 18 months,
03:05we've been investigating a series of violent, aggravated burglaries.
03:09There's in the region of 450 offences
03:12that we believe are linked to the same organised criminal network,
03:15or OCM.
03:17This isn't just people going out and randomly kicking door in.
03:20It's planned and there's some awareness
03:22of the people they're looking to target.
03:25Victims are either elderly or vulnerable.
03:28They're looking for family gold and cash.
03:30In the 10th burglary, four males with crowbars and screwdrivers
03:34have come away in a vehicle.
03:36Individuals within this OCM
03:38are organised, ruthless and extremely dangerous.
03:42We've seen elderly occupants
03:44assaulted with weapons.
03:46To target the gang responsible for these attacks,
03:51the Met has launched Operation Angleton,
03:54a specialist team of highly trained officers.
03:56What became really apparent when we started looking at the offences,
04:06this organised criminal network are transient.
04:08They've got addresses, but they move around to enable their criminality.
04:13It makes it really difficult for us to keep track of where they are
04:16and what they're up to.
04:17This is a group of individuals who commit crime
04:24by going across boundaries.
04:26The majority of the offences we've seen
04:28are across the Barnet, Edgware area,
04:32across Harrow, Hayes area.
04:35But we've seen offences as far out as
04:38Ilford, Bromley,
04:41Kent borders.
04:41That's what makes it more difficult for us.
04:47Analyzing CCTV and call data
04:50from the area surrounding homes that were burgled,
04:53the team believes the gang may be linked
04:55to a mobile encampment on the outskirts of West London.
04:59There's over 10 caravans here,
05:03so you're talking well over 50, 60 people sometimes.
05:07The unit has identified several members,
05:13but they've been unable to gather enough evidence
05:15to charge many of the gang.
05:18It's very hard to get that evidence
05:20to ensure a conviction.
05:22We believe there's dozens of people
05:24in this organised criminal network,
05:26but when they go out to offend,
05:27we see them going out in teams of three, four, five.
05:34They'll wear gloves to prevent them leaving fingerprints,
05:36and masks to conceal themselves.
05:40We've known them to clean up after themselves using bleach.
05:44Generally, we've seen they don't take mobile phones
05:46or other devices with them.
05:48So we can't track their movements
05:49or prove where they've been.
05:56Detectives return to the home of an 83-year-old woman
05:59to take a victim impact statement
06:01after she was brutally attacked by the gang
06:03seven months earlier.
06:06On this occasion, the occupants were inside.
06:10One of them has received some quite serious injuries.
06:13The other one has also been beaten up as well.
06:15Good morning, how are we today?
06:26We're all right.
06:26D.C. Redshaw from Wembley Police Station.
06:29They all had baseball hats on.
06:40And they all had masks, patterned masks.
06:46And I think they had jogging pants on.
06:50I can't be sure about that.
06:51David, very bravely, rushed upstairs to see what was going on.
06:57And I could hear them talking aggressively.
07:04And I thought they might kill him.
07:09They obviously didn't care that we were in the house.
07:12The three of them came downstairs together.
07:15Two of them went straight out the front door.
07:19And the third one came down with one of my chair legs
07:23with a nail in it.
07:25And instead of going out the front door, he attacked me.
07:28I was in pain, bleeding profusely.
07:37And I could see the bones in my arm, which I'd never seen before.
07:43It was the most horrendous incident that I wouldn't wish on anybody.
07:47With the gang known for senseless violence,
07:59they pose a major threat to the public.
08:01But as they leave no forensic trace,
08:04the Operation Angleton team must use specialist tactics to catch them.
08:17It's 6am, and officers from the Met's online child sexual abuse
08:27and exploitation unit are about to execute a warrant
08:30at a property in North London.
08:35The team has received intelligence that indecent images of children
08:39have been viewed at this address.
08:43Hello, from the Met Police.
08:45Can we come in?
08:45What's going on? I'll explain it to you.
08:48You're scaring me.
08:49OK, we've got a warrant to come into the property.
08:51My colleague is going to explain everything to you.
08:53But who lives in your flat?
08:55My son is staying at the moment.
08:57OK, can I have a chat with him?
08:58And my colleague here is going to talk to you.
09:00OK? Can you wait till you?
09:02No, we need to... I want to come in.
09:03We need to go up, yeah.
09:07We're from the unit dealing with people
09:08that look at indecent images of children online.
09:12Do you know anything about that?
09:14What's been going on in this property?
09:16I'm going to get, like, one in the morning.
09:18Do you know about that?
09:19OK, so you're going to be arrested, OK?
09:21Really?
09:22For possession of indecent images of children.
09:25You don't have to say anything, but it may harm the offence.
09:27You do not mention one question or something,
09:28which you later will learn in court,
09:29and you do say maybe give him an evidence.
09:31OK?
09:34The man is in his 20s and works from home.
09:39These all new hard drives.
09:40He's got a lot of hard drives in his room, he's got several laptops and phones.
09:54At the moment, we're not entirely sure, obviously, what we need to focus on,
09:56but we're just, at the moment, in the process of just collecting everything up.
09:57He's got a lot of hard drives in his room, he's got several laptops and phones.
10:06At the moment, we're not entirely sure, obviously, what we need to focus on,
10:10but we're just, at the moment, in the process of just collecting everything up.
10:19The unit works closely with the National Crime Agency,
10:23who alert them to IP addresses where images of child sexual abuse have been viewed or shared.
10:28So, we'll get a referral.
10:36They will let us know that a particular Wi-Fi and an address
10:40has been accessed in these images of children.
10:44On the back of that, we will get a warrant.
10:47The methods of detection are better than they were a few years ago,
10:50but I've been in this unit four years now,
10:53and it's getting much, much busier.
10:56We'll probably do five, six, seven warrants a week.
11:03The suspect is brought to Islington Police Station to be interviewed.
11:10OK, this interview has been audio and video recorded,
11:14and my name is DC Ben Hawkins,
11:16and I'm attached to the Online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse Unit.
11:20You're going to have to speak up. Your solicitor needs to hear you.
11:24I've got a prepared statement to read out.
11:27OK.
11:27It says I have been arrested for possessing indecent images of children,
11:33which states as follows.
11:36I accept that I downloaded a number of indecent images of children.
11:40These were downloaded to my MacBook Pro and a hard drive.
11:44I have no sexual interest in children.
11:46I downloaded the images out of curiosity after seeing a link whilst downloading Microsoft Office and PowerPoint from a file sharing platform.
11:55I did not view all of the material that was downloaded and sincerely regret my actions.
12:01My client will now be answering no comment to the questions that you've got to put to him.
12:06Are you saying that these images you came across,
12:10that this all started in June of this year?
12:12No comment.
12:13And you said that you came via these images whilst downloading Office and PowerPoint.
12:20How did that happen?
12:22No comment.
12:23What search terms are we going to find on your devices?
12:30Very common.
12:30Common search terms that we come across are things like young children, preteen.
12:37You said in your prepared statement that you're not sexually attracted to children.
12:43I think 99% of the people we interview for this type of offending say the very same thing.
12:48It's not something I necessarily believe unless you can give me a reason why you're looking at it.
12:53No comment.
12:54How young are we talking?
12:55No comment.
12:56Are we looking at hundreds, thousands, a hundred thousands?
13:00No comment.
13:01Because when we extract everything, we'll be able to see what's been plugged into your laptop.
13:06When?
13:07What you've looked at, how often you've looked at it.
13:09We'll be able to see if you've sent it to anybody.
13:18The team begins analysing the man's devices using specialist software.
13:23We're just processing those now, sir.
13:25Okay, cool.
13:26All right, thanks, Mark.
13:26No worries.
13:26Cheers.
13:29They focus first on a hard drive found at the bottom of a chest of drawers in his bedroom.
13:33So it searches for keywords, indicative of indecent material of children.
13:43So they're all indicators that the hard drive contains indecent material of children.
14:06The technology used to scan the suspect's devices gives the team an early indication that he has downloaded and stored indecent images of children.
14:29But each image must now be viewed individually and assessed for severity before he can be charged.
14:36I've got to go through 17,000 images.
14:45And I can already see, just scrolling through, they're all indecent images of children.
14:53The category A is the most serious, and this guy here, the majority of his images are category A videos.
15:04I mean, category A is the child being penetrated or penetrating.
15:09We've got children giving oral sex to adult men.
15:14I mean, you know, it's not the best thing in the world to be sitting here looking through it all, but it has to be done, because ultimately the courts have to have a good idea as to what this person's been up to.
15:29There's sometimes a lack of responsibility, because in order for them to view that image, a child somewhere in the world has been abused.
15:38And at the end of the day, the photograph itself has come from somewhere.
15:44They are children who are being raped and tortured.
15:47And how any person can say that they don't feel responsible just by viewing it, because they didn't, they weren't the abuser or such.
15:56And by viewing that, they also are the abuser.
16:08So, this is a joint investigation looking to dismantle an organised criminal network engaged in committing aggravated burglaries.
16:22In Harrow, police are investigating a gang who have been committing violent burglaries for over 18 months across Greater London.
16:30The organised network hides their identities and leaves no trace, making it very difficult for police to charge them.
16:39They're armed with crowbars, screwdrivers.
16:42Some of these offences, they'll select knives when they're in the kitchen.
16:46We've seen occupiers seriously assaulted and in some cases hospitalised.
16:51It's incumbent on us to try and protect the public.
16:54To help stop the gang, local police have been joined by the Met's Flying Squad, an elite team of covert officers.
17:04Specially trained in catching elusive criminals, one of the Flying Squad's sergeants works alongside Kelly to plan the operation.
17:13Flying Squad would specialise in armed surveillance and then we specialise in the ambush.
17:19This gang, they're highly sophisticated in their offending and they're very good at covering their tracks.
17:29They clean down crime scenes.
17:31They regularly change number plates, they regularly change their vehicles.
17:36And then when the local police is caught up to what's happening, they've already moved to another location.
17:42So, the only way to gather sufficient evidence for a conviction is to catch them in the act.
17:50With the stolen property outside the house or immediately after the offence has taken place.
17:56In the office, that's referred to as a pavement job.
18:00When they're in a stolen car with false number plates, with balaclavas on, that's where we'll look to ambush them.
18:08Oh, hello there. My name's Kelly. I'm ringing for the Metropolitan Police.
18:19I'm ringing in relation to the burglary that we reported.
18:23I understand there's some CCTV potentially.
18:27The team needs to catch the robbers in the act to ensure they have enough evidence to charge them.
18:32Over the weekend, the offence has been linked via a vehicle.
18:39Several victims have described a black BMW.
18:42Detectives scan CCTV from the areas where the burglaries took place to try to identify the vehicle.
18:49That's still fairly good.
18:52There we go.
18:55It's a BMW.
18:56That's a really good image.
18:57Cool. That's consistent with what that witness says then.
19:03And we've got this vehicle.
19:06It's a BMW.
19:07It's got the same sort of markings.
19:10We can see, look, climbing the wall here.
19:12And then walking down the side of the house.
19:17Yeah, so it's the same vehicle.
19:18So this BMW, there are five jobs to it in four days.
19:24That's enough for us to try and find the vehicle and then deploy surveillance.
19:31I've sent in a request to ANPR for any vehicles which match a blue 5 Series around that area.
19:40While the unit attempts to trace the car, additional CCTV footage from a recent robbery gives them a new lead.
19:53Looks to be our same vehicle.
19:57It is analysed by DC Gary Redshaw, who searches for a clue that might help identify the burglars.
20:04From this burglary offence, we're fortunate enough to actually get some CCTV from inside this venue, which captures three suspects.
20:15But what is of note from this suspect is some red gloves being worn.
20:20And we've got this baseball cap with a reflective stripe.
20:26This is one of the other suspects.
20:28He's wearing some gloves that have got a reflective strip across the back of the hand.
20:35This jumper here has got a logo.
20:39It's pretty nondescript clothing.
20:41However, there was a member of the public that has seen some suspicious activity and has taken some pictures of the vehicle.
20:51We can see the driver is Lawrence Connors.
20:55By cross-referencing CCTV and photographs, the team believes they've identified several members of the crime group.
21:05This gentleman in the middle is considerably taller.
21:10And we know that James O'Leary, one of our subjects, is taller than the other males.
21:15At the back, we can see Michael Duran, a slimmer build.
21:23Duran is known associate of them.
21:25The BMW used in the recent attacks is registered on a traffic camera and traced to a location using CCTV.
21:42Flying squad officers now mobilise to follow it, hoping to catch the gang while they are committing their next robbery.
21:49Thanks, everyone. We'll make a stop.
21:54The mission vehicle, the getaway car, is the blue BMW saloon.
21:59It's a 535i.
22:01Lawrence Connors is one of our principals.
22:04Michael Duran and James O'Leary is another one.
22:09The intention today is to conduct surveillance, targeting those subjects, and specifically that mission vehicle.
22:18We will try and gather sufficient evidence to be able to arrest them before they commit the next offence.
22:23There can't really be any half measures with these guys.
22:26They are really, really dangerous.
22:29They will not stop and they will not surrender.
22:32Thanks, everyone.
22:33More than 20 officers are dispatched in vehicles as part of the operation.
22:42While surveillance vehicles monitor the suspect's BMW, the others are positioned nearby, waiting for the signal to intercept and arrest.
22:54We are round the corner from the mission vehicle and we wait.
22:57Yeah, so let's see. Let's see what happens next.
23:05The ambush carries a significant amount of risk to it.
23:10It's never our intention to let them threaten the occupiers in someone's house.
23:15And we will do everything we can to prevent that.
23:18But sometimes the plan will have to adapt.
23:20And so we have to take the very rare step to let them get closer and closer to committing an offence or you haven't got the evidence.
23:29You know, so you wait, you observe and you try and manage the risk as to what they're planning to do.
23:36There you go.
23:37Contact, contact from 8-7.
23:39We've got a four-way flash on the car.
23:42Positive ID subject.
23:44Positive ID associate three.
23:47An unknown third.
23:48All three into the car.
23:55And vehicle is a way away.
23:59Let's just see how this builds.
24:03Detectives believe the gang is aware of police surveillance techniques, so follow cautiously.
24:11Vehicle continues Westbound, which is away from the West Avenue.
24:14First and foremost is public safety.
24:20You've got a team of criminals, perhaps with weapons.
24:23They're violent.
24:25And you need to prevent them from hurting the public.
24:30Timing's everything.
24:33I believe they're somewhere around here at the moment.
24:35Officers must wait until they are certain a burglary is taking place before moving in to catch the robbers.
24:45Some big houses down there.
24:48Are they, yeah?
24:50Vehicle travelling north, seat 2-5, Utreet Road, towards Junction, St Andrews Road.
24:58It's important now that everybody stays back and stays calm.
25:01We don't want to speak.
25:03Stand by, stand by.
25:04Vehicle on the turn.
25:05But the suspect's vehicle appears to turn around and head back to where it was previously parked.
25:14Carver Hill Road, want to return.
25:17Return route.
25:23Vehicle's parked.
25:27At the moment, we've got no offences.
25:33Right, this is not going according to plan.
25:36There's nothing we can do with it at the moment.
25:414 minutes, stand down, stand down.
25:44Nothing's happened.
25:49Why come back now?
25:50Why go out and leave and then come back?
25:53The team fears the suspects may know they're being followed.
25:59So the worst case scenario is a compromise that completely resets the investigation.
26:06That's a major setback.
26:07Oh, for God's sake.
26:14We can't have them sail off into distance.
26:16We want to, like, secure everybody within the address.
26:37The guy, he's actually going to be our focus.
26:43Make sure nobody's got any access to delete anything off any digital devices.
26:48Once everybody's secure, then we'll just take it very slowly and then seize what we need to seize and take it from there.
26:55OK?
26:55Yeah.
26:58In South London, detectives from the Online Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Unit are preparing to visit another address.
27:06They need to get into the property quickly before the suspect has time to wipe any hard drives containing indecent images of children.
27:14Can you open the door, please?
27:20Why, what's that?
27:21I'll tell you if you open the door.
27:28Can you open the door, please?
27:31Now, we've got a warrant to search the property.
27:35We will have to fourth entry if you don't open the door.
27:39At the same time.
27:44Can you open the door now, otherwise we'll be forced on entry, OK?
27:47We've got a warrant to search the premises.
27:56Can I show you the warrant?
27:58Can I show you the warrant?
27:59Can you take a seat?
28:01My colleague will explain to you why we're here.
28:04We've got intelligence that someone at this address has been accessing indecent images of children.
28:10Is that anything that you know about?
28:12No.
28:12Absolutely not.
28:14Thinking something crazy.
28:16Yeah, no, I know, I know.
28:18It's pretty serious stuff, though.
28:19Of course, of course, but that's...
28:22I appreciate it's a shock.
28:23It's early in the morning.
28:25So the reason why we're here is because we do have information to say that someone at this address
28:29has been accessing indecent images of children.
28:33What's going to happen is we are going to search the premises.
28:35We are going to see certain devices, OK?
28:37During the search, officers discover the suspect lives at the premises with his partner and baby.
28:48We didn't know he was here with a baby.
28:52That's new information to us today, so we'll need to process that, ensure through social services that she's safe and the baby's safe.
29:01She's given the indication that she's totally unaware and doesn't understand why anybody would do this type of thing.
29:10And that's typically the, often, what we get from partners, that they just would never even entertain that their partner could do such a thing.
29:21OK.
29:21I had a look through her phone.
29:23I think we're pretty happy that there's no involvement.
29:26So we'll give that back to her that she's got a means of contact.
29:31We'll obviously be given a copy of the warrant, and it explains all our powers and why we're here, what we're searching for and why.
29:40We've also come across drugs that we've had to seize.
29:44So he'll be dealt with in custody today for that, and also then will give us a chance to interview him.
29:52Once they tell me that they've finished and they're happy, then I'll get my colleague to get you changed.
30:00Detectives search the house and seize multiple devices.
30:09I've been happy that you've been compliant.
30:11So I'm not going to hand coffee or anything, OK?
30:13We're going to go in an unmarked car.
30:15All right?
30:17Yes.
30:17Yes.
30:18Do you like one?
30:19Yes.
30:21I was a bit concerned because he wasn't answering the door.
30:34So I thought we were going to have to fall sentry, which then means that he's got a little bit of time to delete stuff, get rid of devices, etc.
30:42We'll obviously go to custody, interview him now, see if he changes what he says or wants to speak to us any further.
30:49But at the moment, yeah, he's denying any knowledge of it.
30:53All right, just let us know, I'll get you food.
31:03Yeah.
31:03All right, just let us know. I'll get you food.
31:07OK, it's recording now.
31:29My name is DC Tracy Brocklesby, before I ask you anything, I just want you to, I'll leave it open to you to tell me what you know about the indecent images.
31:42Nothing.
31:42Nothing?
31:43Yeah.
31:44All right.
31:45Can you expand on that?
31:47This is the first knowledge when you knocked on my door, saying that it was coming through indecent images, and as you saw when you told me it was through indecent images, I thought, oh, nothing of it, basically.
32:04Because...
32:05Because?
32:06It wasn't something that you would find on my laptop. I thought you was here for my smokes.
32:11You thought you were here for smokes, the drugs?
32:14Yeah, for my smokes.
32:15OK.
32:16In terms of your use of the internet, what do you use it for?
32:21Mainly PlayStation or YouTube.
32:25And what about porn? Do you look at porn? And how, where do you go for that?
32:31That's just on my laptop.
32:32That's just on my laptop.
32:33That's on your laptop?
32:34OK.
32:35And I've described, obviously, what images we're talking about when we talk about indecent images.
32:39Have you ever seen anything like that?
32:42Not in...person.
32:45So when you go on the internet, do you ever put in search terms to bring up any pornographic material?
32:51Mmm, not so much.
32:54Maybe if I'm looking for, like, a name of one of the porn actresses, maybe. Maybe.
33:04You're talking about adults?
33:05Yeah, yeah, yeah.
33:06Like, obviously, I'll just type in the name, like, the BJ Show in Google.
33:11But that's about it.
33:15So if you describe to me what your sexual interest is then, how would you describe that?
33:22I would say black woman.
33:25Mm-hm.
33:26Age?
33:29Probably mid-twenties.
33:32OK.
33:33Most probably.
33:34And if I ask you, are you sexually attracted to children, what are you going to say?
33:37No.
33:38No.
33:41Officers use specialist software to search the devices at speed for illegal images and videos, already known to police.
33:51It's early days, it's just starting to look through it.
33:55But it's already indicated access to indecent images on there.
33:59But at the moment, it's just an indicator.
34:01Obviously, this information comes because of the IP address.
34:09Mm-hm.
34:10So that's linked to your Wi-Fi.
34:11Yeah.
34:12Right.
34:13So if anyone comes to your address, could they just automatically log in?
34:15Yeah, more time than not, they're just on the Wi-Fi already.
34:18I'm going to come straight to the Dell laptop.
34:21We have done an initial, what we call triage, of that.
34:25And from what I've been told, there are indecent images on there of children.
34:30Have you got any explanation for that?
34:33No.
34:34That's what I said.
34:35Yeah, I have no clue as to how that could get there.
34:38The only slight inkling or anything that seems dodgy to me is a couple of weeks ago, my mouse stopped working and my mouse had frozen up and I was trying to move my mouse.
34:49And I couldn't move my mouse and it was moving on its own.
34:52But other than that, nothing untoward has come on my laptop for me to think anything.
34:59Of which?
35:00Yeah.
35:01While searching the suspect's laptop, detectives make a further worrying discovery.
35:08Those images, which are clearly indecent images of children, they're not known to us.
35:14So they are new images of some description that would need to be graded, not previously known.
35:24The unknown illegal images found could mean the man is creating new content as well as downloading it.
35:33The concern really is around safeguarding of that child and first generation images.
35:39So images that may have been taken in the home, may have been taken of the baby.
35:43We're not saying that has happened, but that's obviously something that we're going to have to be very keen to look for.
35:48Are there any images on there of his own child?
35:51It won't be long, we just need to sort it out on top of it, OK?
35:55Do you need anything?
35:56OK.
35:57OK.
35:58All right.
35:59He gave us an account, absolutely flat-out denial.
36:11Seems to believe the version that he's given.
36:14He seems quite sure of it, quite...
36:16That's what he's sticking to, so I really don't know what to think at the moment.
36:22If you can just attach the photographs that Trace is going to send, which will just be of the room where the baby was.
36:31Yeah.
36:32Detectives now compare the photos they took of the suspect's flat with the images found on his hard drives,
36:39to try to discover if he has been creating the content himself.
36:43Basically, some more investigation needs to happen around the offences you were arrested for, OK?
36:48OK.
36:49But with his custody clock running out, the man is released, pending further investigation.
36:56So what we're going to do is we're going to release you on bail,
36:59and there's going to be some conditions on that bail.
37:01So the first condition is not to be in the company of a child under the age of 16,
37:05unless supervised by an adult, aware of the investigation, all right?
37:10Secondly, any supervised contact with your own child to be agreed by social services.
37:16We're obviously the age of social services, and everything will be overseen and put in place.
37:23Generally, these investigations go on for quite a long time, like nine to 12 months sometimes.
37:33After a full scan of the suspect's hard drives, police do not find any evidence that he was abusing his own child.
37:40But the full scale of his offending remains to be established.
37:47On the OK with a BMW 5 Series, no change, no change.
37:54No change, still held.
37:55The Operation Angleton team has been monitoring a vehicle they believe is connected to a violent gang for two years.
38:00The Operation Angleton team has been monitoring a vehicle they believe is connected to a violent gang for two days.
38:13They have not been spoken to anything.
38:14Still optimistic, I'm still optimistic.
38:15We just haven't seen anyone move yet.
38:16They are engaged in a covert operation to track and arrest three members of an organised criminal network.
38:19OK, right, so cars on the move.
38:27OK, right, so car is on the move.
38:28That was the next one, that's what we got before.
38:31I'm still optimistic. I'm still optimistic.
38:34We just haven't seen anyone move yet.
38:37They are engaged in a covert operation
38:40to track and arrest three members of an organised criminal network.
38:44Yes, BMW is on the move.
38:46OK, right, so cars on the move, tasers, into arrest cars, let's go.
38:52Do you think they're out of prison now, then?
38:55It's possible.
38:57To prove the men are responsible for the robberies,
39:00the team must catch them in the act of committing a new one.
39:08But to avoid being detected by the gang,
39:10the team's vehicles are positioned
39:12several streets away from the burglars.
39:15Four minutes out, junction in point three.
39:19Vehicle is parked.
39:22One male is in the vehicle from a drive-by.
39:25This has got to be a fantastic, yeah.
39:28Two males got into that, yeah.
39:31It's getting off, off, off.
39:32The vehicle is travelling at eight zero, ten forty.
39:36Sorry mate, this is going to be a bit hairy.
39:40OK, apparently there's a burglary been reported.
39:43Burglary reported.
39:44Yeah, we've got one.
39:46Right, we're game on then.
39:48They're not aware of us anything.
39:50The team receives intelligence.
39:52The gang is committing a burglary.
39:54Got five for us, stay camped.
39:56Push up now, push up, let's go.
39:58Officers must intercept the burglars.
40:01Quick, quick, quick, quick.
40:02Before they can dispose of any stolen goods or evidence.
40:06Go mate, go.
40:07You're right, right.
40:08More than that.
40:09You're right, right.
40:10Go on, go, go, go.
40:11One in the parking lot.
40:12One in the parking lot.
40:13One in the parking lot.
40:15Get out now!
40:17Stay right now!
40:19Stay right now!
40:20Stay right now!
40:22That way!
40:23That way!
40:24That way!
40:25That way!
40:26No point with the car.
40:27Stop!
40:28Police!
40:34Stay where you are, taser!
40:36Get a fucking drought!
40:38Get a drought!
40:39Get a drought!
40:40Go on, mate.
40:41You're under arrest.
40:43Conspiracy of burglary.
40:52I got him! I got him! I got him!
40:55I got him!
41:00How many we got?
41:01Three.
41:02Three?
41:03Yeah, Georgie, back!
41:10Right, the bank is full for us, you mate.
41:12Yeah, I know.
41:14Listen, at the moment you're on the restaurant, I'm switching to Burgundy.
41:17Do I say in Miami Defence, do I mention, when crashes, something Mitchell-Arolin-Carton, if you can do this, that's done.
41:23That's done.
41:24Jewelry in there, is there?
41:25Yeah, right.
41:26That's lovely.
41:27Yes, yes, you're free detained, property recovered, vehicle stopped, done.
41:31Him and...
41:33Oh, we covered those before we lost them, yeah.
41:47There's a lot of property there.
41:53£100,000 worth of items are discovered in the car, including jewellery, cash and silverware.
42:00He stores it in a fairy box they haven't got to.
42:02This is a box-on bits and pieces.
42:07The three suspects will be taken to police custody to be interviewed.
42:11In the online child sexual abuse and exploitation unit, officers have been examining the hard drives of the suspect arrested in Croydon.
42:29Detectives have ruled out the possibility that the man is creating his own content.
42:38But they now need to categorise all of the images on his devices.
42:42So, I need to grade them, put them into categories, like category A, B and C.
42:52There's thousands, but really that's not a particularly large amount.
42:58It can be a lot more than that, like hundreds and hundreds of thousands.
43:03There's a lot of young females and males, I would say.
43:12There's some babies.
43:13There's a lot of, I'd say, five to eight-year-olds.
43:23It is obviously shocking.
43:25But I've always wanted to join this unit.
43:28That's kind of the only reason I did my...
43:31..I became the detective, was to come to this department.
43:34The internet's a big thing with kids nowadays,
43:36so we need to get out there as much as we can and get these people.
43:41Hi, have you got an update on the devices?
43:54Erm, yep, so we've finished processing.
43:56Erm, you're looking at...
43:58These are the figures, look, 159 category A files,
44:02179 Bs and 839 category Cs.
44:07That's a lot of those, yeah.
44:10And Tracy's got a further 1800 unconfirmed,
44:13so it's pretty bad stuff.
44:15OK.
44:16Looks like he's covering his tracks quite well,
44:18though he seems to be using, erm,
44:21a lot of anti-forensics tools.
44:23So most of the material is deleted, unfortunately.
44:26Right, OK.
44:27Or inaccessible, but we can recover it.
44:29We can see a trace of it, yeah.
44:31Yeah, yeah, yeah.
44:33OK.
44:34So he literally looks like he's watching it
44:35and then deleting it straight away afterwards.
44:37Yeah, yeah.
44:38I'd say he's not a collector, he's downloading it,
44:42watching it and deleting it straight away.
44:44A lot of people actually enjoy collecting indecent images.
44:48So they will save them on hard drives,
44:51they will move them to different devices
44:53and have collections.
44:55Others are just interested in viewing them
44:58and will delete them straight away afterwards.
45:00It appears he's deleting them as he goes.
45:06With the indecent images graded,
45:08the man is brought back into custody for a second interview.
45:14So my name's DC Tracy Brocklesby.
45:16We've met before because you were interviewed
45:19on the 25th of August last year
45:21in relation to a suspicion
45:24that you were in possession of indecent images of children.
45:27I have looked at the devices that were seized
45:31from your address.
45:33188, what we call Category A
45:36indecent images of children were found.
45:38224, Category B
45:40indecent images of children were found.
45:43And 711, Category C.
45:47So this interview is your opportunity
45:51to give us an account regarding that
45:53or an explanation about that, OK?
45:58Have you got any comment to make?
46:00These images, in fact, feature children
46:05from babies months old to about 10.
46:13Do you remember seeing anything like that on your computer?
46:21OK.
46:22We've got a Dell computer found at your address
46:25that you have admitted to being yours.
46:28We've got your username on that computer
46:33where indecent images have been downloaded
46:37using that username.
46:40I'm just going to read some of the file names
46:43indicative of child abuse imagery or videos.
46:47My daughter, 12-year-old, masturbating.
46:5210-year-old boy, neighbour and his dad.
46:55Preteen girl, 11-year-old little girl.
47:03The weight of evidence against the suspect
47:06means the police are able to charge him
47:08with possessing indecent images of children
47:1015 months after his arrest.
47:13The amount of offending going on is just huge.
47:18There's just a myriad of different ways
47:20in which people can find these images.
47:23By chatting to people who like the same type of thing online.
47:27And that's a real problem.
47:29It's becoming a really difficult prospect to police.
47:38The man is also charged with possession of illegal substances
47:41found at his home.
47:43He still denies all knowledge of the images
47:45and will be bailed whilst he awaits trial.
47:47In West London, the three suspects caught
48:06after committing the latest in a series of home burglaries
48:09are taken to police custody.
48:11They are believed to be part of an organised crime network
48:18carrying out hundreds of burglaries across Greater London.
48:22Hopefully that's come through to you, Sarge.
48:24It should come through.
48:27Detectives visit the victims of the latest offence
48:30to identify the owners of the stolen items.
48:36Hello, Lena. How are you? How are you doing?
48:38In the back of the car was found a pillowcase.
48:44Can you see that?
48:45Yes.
48:46So we've taken everything out and photographed it.
48:51Do you recognise any of these items?
48:53Yes.
48:55That's my...
48:56That's yours.
48:57When I retired from work.
48:58Is that the watch?
48:59Yes, that's the watch.
49:00Is it? Okay.
49:02Jolita and Nicholas were out celebrating her 83rd birthday
49:05when the gang broke into their home.
49:08I've lost the wedding ring and the signal ring.
49:10We have got some more items here.
49:12Oh, I see.
49:13Yes.
49:16Yeah.
49:17All the necklace I know is mine.
49:19Yeah.
49:20We've got about 100 photographs of different things
49:22so I'll go through them.
49:23Yes.
49:24All right.
49:25They moved the drawer out from my bed.
49:28Okay.
49:29Yeah.
49:30And they emptied it.
49:31Yes.
49:33You got yours.
49:34And that one.
49:35You got that.
49:36Okay.
49:37That's yours.
49:38That's mine.
49:39That's your ring.
49:42Good.
49:43Good.
49:44Okay.
49:45That was from my mother.
49:46Was it?
49:47Yeah.
49:48Lovely.
49:49I'm glad that I've seen them back
49:51and then you managed to catch these people.
49:53Yeah.
49:54Yeah.
49:55They have to pay what they did.
49:56They do.
49:57They do.
49:59With the stolen jewellery returned
50:01and victim statements taken as evidence,
50:04detectives begin interviewing the suspects.
50:08This interview is being tape recorded.
50:10I am DC Gary Redshaw attached to Harrow Police Station.
50:14Would you mind just giving your full name for me, please?
50:16James Patrick O'Reilly.
50:17So, you've been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to Burgle
50:20and burglary.
50:22The people we believe involved in this is yourself.
50:25Gentleman by the name of Lawrence Connors
50:27and gentleman by the name of Michael Duran.
50:31When we arrested you out of that car,
50:34there was a pink pillowcase on the back seat
50:37that contained a quantity of jewellery.
50:40Mr Duran, was that property proceeds of the burglary?
50:46No comment.
50:50That jewellery was taken to our victim
50:52and they've confirmed that that's their property.
50:56So, I'm requesting you to account for that.
51:00No comment.
51:01So, it's a series of burglaries, offences across
51:05North and West London, Thames Valley and Surrey.
51:09We're now talking about an offence on the 15th of June
51:12in Hampshire.
51:14There was victims in at that house.
51:16She heard the noise of a break-in,
51:19one of them had a screwdriver
51:21and there's been an altercation.
51:22No comment.
51:23On that same day, at about 6.30 in the evening,
51:27another burglary occurred near Pinnock.
51:30Mr Connors, did you commit that offence?
51:32No problem.
51:34The 17th of June, upon returning from school,
51:37the child found the front door open
51:38and the premises had been ransacked.
51:41A witness saw three white males with Irish accents
51:44leaving the block with a suitcase and shopping bags
51:47and describes him interacting with a blue BMW.
51:50No comment.
51:51I've got three offences that have all taken place
51:53on the 26th of June.
51:56CCTV shows three males committing any offence
52:00and one of the males is seen wearing a distinctive hat
52:05with markings on the side.
52:08We went to your home address after you were arrested.
52:12I have one navy baseball cap.
52:14It's got a quite distinctive reflective strip
52:17on the side of your hat.
52:18By comparing items found on the three men with CCTV,
52:24the unit has been able to link the suspects
52:27to multiple past offences.
52:30He's wearing these gloves.
52:31They're black on the inside and red on the outside.
52:35And these were seized from Connors,
52:40but another pair was found in the car.
52:42By the looks of it, the gloves are identical.
52:45Lawrence, where are you involved in that burglary?
52:47No comment.
52:48These are the gloves that were on Mr Duran at the point of arrest yesterday.
52:52The same one seen on the CCTV from the offences on the 26th.
52:57Do you have anything to say on that?
53:00No.
53:01OK.
53:02We have victim statements.
53:04We have CCTV.
53:06We've got offences with a BMW.
53:09We've got offences with three white males.
53:13And all them suspects are wearing the same clothing.
53:16But you're saying you know nothing about it?
53:17No comment.
53:18OK.
53:19Mr O'Leary, this matter has been referred to the Crown Prosecution Service
53:29and they've authorised two charges.
53:33The one of burglary and one of conspiracy.
53:39O'Leary, Connors and Duran are charged with eight different burglaries
53:43across a two-week period.
53:45Second charges of conspiracy to go to burglary.
53:50Conspired together with James O'Leary, Michael Duran and others
53:54to enter as a trespasser at a dwelling with intent to steal their own.
54:04Over the past 18 months, we've managed to charge individuals
54:08from this network.
54:10But what we have seen is that some of those individuals
54:13are replaced by people waiting in the wings.
54:17We need to look at tackling the criminal network.
54:21So our work still continues.
54:22So our work still continues.
54:23So our work still continues.
54:24So our work still continues.
54:29In between, we know the label.
