00:00From exclusive items to portion sizes,
00:02we wanted to find out all the differences
00:03between Cadbury products in the US and the UK.
00:06This is Food Wars.
00:10In the UK, classic dairy milk chocolate
00:12comes in a bunch of sizes.
00:13The smallest one isn't sold individually,
00:16but it's one of these selection box bite-sized pieces.
00:19Then we move up to one of these little bars.
00:22These are sold mostly as a snack for children
00:23and they weigh 18 grams each.
00:25Then we have a multi-pack bar, which weighs 33.5 grams.
00:29Then we have what I would say is the standard bar,
00:31which is 45 grams.
00:32If you're feeling hungry, you can have a duo bar.
00:35As you can see by the crease in the middle,
00:36it's kind of separated into two smaller bars.
00:39And in total, it weighs 54.4 grams.
00:41In terms of standard dairy milk,
00:43you may also be able to find a 95-gram bar.
00:45We actually found a 90-gram bar of caramel.
00:48The portion size varies slightly
00:49depending on what type of chocolate you're getting.
00:51Moving more in towards the larger sizes,
00:54we have a 110-gram bar of dairy milk.
00:56Up from that, we have a 180-gram bar.
00:58Our second biggest size is this 360-gram bar.
01:03And finally, our biggest size is this one.
01:08That's 850 grams of dairy milk.
01:10In the U.S., our dairy milk bars come in one size,
01:13the 3.5-ounce or 99.2-gram bar.
01:17Now, this bar right next to it, the Caramello,
01:20is actually 4 ounces or 113.4 grams.
01:24Right here in the middle, there's a fruit and nut size.
01:26That's 5.4 ounces or 153 grams.
01:30I couldn't get it in time.
01:33But our, I guess, biggest size or other size is this,
01:38a bag of miniatures, where it is an 8-ounce or 22-gram bag.
01:44But it's all these little guys in there.
01:45Our Cadbury bar, the 99.2-gram bar, comes in 18 squares per bar.
01:51If you divide it up, it's 6 grams per square.
01:55For comparison, we'll take a look at our 110-gram bar
01:57of dairy milk in the U.K.
01:58One of these bars has 24 individual squares.
02:00We're going to find out how much one of those weighs.
02:02So according to our slightly inaccurate analog scales,
02:05one square weighs around 6 grams.
02:07Although if we divide the 110-figure by 24,
02:10we end up with around 4.5.
02:11So somewhere between there.
02:13So there's no difference.
02:15Good on you, Cadbury.
02:19Here are all the Cadbury products from the U.K.
02:20that you won't find in the U.S.
02:22Here are all the Cadbury products from the U.S.
02:24you won't find in the U.K.
02:25This is going to be an easy one for me.
02:27Now, I want to remind the audience
02:29that this is for Cadbury products produced
02:31in our respective countries.
02:32Yes, all this stuff is available on Amazon.
02:35We know.
02:36Now, obviously, we have a ton of exclusive products
02:37here in the U.K.,
02:38so we're going to break them down into categories.
02:39We'll start with standard dairy milk bars,
02:41but with different flavorings.
02:43We're going to start off with a bang here
02:44with what's possibly my favorite,
02:45just standard, dairy milk bar,
02:47which is Cadbury whole nut.
02:48It's basically fruit and nut,
02:49but with none of that gross fruit in there.
02:51It's just the nuts.
02:52Fruit and nut.
02:55Whole nut.
02:56Now, depending on what time of year
02:57you're looking for your Cadbury in the supermarket,
02:59you might be able to find orange dairy milk,
03:01but because we're in the build up to the festive season,
03:04we got winter orange crisp instead.
03:07Chocolate and orange is kind of a beloved flavor combination
03:09here in the U.K.
03:10I think a lot of people will think
03:11of Terry's chocolate oranges,
03:12but Cadburys are getting in on the act too.
03:14Next up, we have Cadbury Dairy Milk Oreo.
03:17You might see a few of these as we go through.
03:19They seem to have some kind of partnership going on with Oreo.
03:21This is actually quite a few Dairy Milk X Oreo products.
03:25I'll open this one up because it's actually quite cool
03:27what they've done, to be fair.
03:28From the outside, it looks just like a standard piece of dairy milk,
03:32but if you see, they've actually filled it with Oreo cream.
03:37But they also put little pieces of the biscuit in,
03:39so you get these, like, crunchy bits as well.
03:40If the Cadbury Dairy Milk Oreo somehow isn't sweet enough for you,
03:44you can also get a white chocolate Oreo bar.
03:46We're sticking with the classics here,
03:48and we're moving on to Dairy Milk Caramel.
03:50Now, I know I said that this might have been too sweet for me,
03:52but I actually do really like the caramel bars.
03:55So what you get is Dairy Milk chocolate,
03:57but then you have this quite liquidy caramel on the inside.
04:03The caramel, it is sweet, but it's not like you're just tasting sugar,
04:07you know? There is something else going on there.
04:08We did see that in the U.S., you guys have Caramello.
04:11Is that kind of the same thing?
04:13Joe, what do you think?
04:13Hi, Harry, and yes, we don't have the Dairy Milk Caramel.
04:18We have the Dairy Milk Caramello.
04:20I remember Caramello for a while was a U.S. brand.
04:23I remember the commercials. You went like, Caramello.
04:28So that's yours. Let's take a look at ours.
04:31Here's ours. It's already, like, kind of coming out there.
04:33It's caramel heavy, rich, I guess.
04:36Yeah, Cam, I got a straight answer.
04:37If Cadbury just bought Caramello in the U.S. and repackaged it or what,
04:41but it looks like it's probably relatively the same.
04:44Sticking with the caramel theme,
04:45we now have the new salted caramel bar.
04:48I feel like, I don't know if this is the case in the U.S.,
04:50but there's been a real salted caramel takeover
04:53in the past couple of years,
04:54to the point where it's very hard to find unsalted caramel now.
04:58And I suppose Cadbury had to get on the trend.
05:03I really don't think I taste much, if any, difference at all
05:06between that and the regular caramel.
05:08Since I have nothing else to do for this episode,
05:10I'm going to go ahead and try some of this UK Cadbury
05:13I'm hearing so much about,
05:14starting with the OG Cadbury Dairy Milk Bar.
05:23Mmm, yeah, this is a much smoother, nicer, richer,
05:28creamier chocolate.
05:30I do really love this.
05:31It's fantastic.
05:32You brag a lot about your chocolate UK,
05:34but another thing you should be bragging about is your caramel.
05:37It's also really good and way better than what we have in America.
05:40So the Caramello's from earlier,
05:41I'm just not the biggest fan of those anymore.
05:45I liked them when I was a kid,
05:46but caramel in America is just too bleh.
05:48But yours?
05:49Oh, yeah.
05:52I mean, it pulls apart nicer.
05:54Now, this one got cheers of approval from the crew
05:56when I mentioned it.
05:57This is the Cadbury Dairy Milk Dime Bar.
05:59Now, for those who don't know,
06:00Dime is a chocolate bar in its own right.
06:02And it's like a layer of chocolate on the outside
06:04with quite a hard layer of kind of toffee caramel on the inside.
06:07Now, Dime Bars themselves,
06:08I think, have maybe fallen out of favor a little bit in the UK.
06:11They were very popular with kind of like my granddad's generation.
06:14And I think people don't really buy them on their own anymore.
06:16However, I do say they are delicious.
06:18You can also still buy them in places like IKEA.
06:21I think they're popular kind of on continental Europe.
06:23Next up, we have another new bar.
06:25It's the Cadbury White Confetti Bar.
06:27I've never seen this before,
06:28before I went to do the shopping for this episode.
06:30But it's white chocolate and it contains oat biscuit pieces
06:34as well as milk chocolate beans.
06:37But you do see quite a few of these biscuity pieces.
06:41Yeah, I get a lot of the biscuit.
06:43Not much of the chocolate pieces.
06:46You may also be able to find a mint dairy milk,
06:49a crunchy pieces dairy milk,
06:51and also dairy milk with 30% less sugar.
06:53But I wasn't able to try them down today.
06:55Then we have a couple of dairy milk bars
06:56with either slightly different compositions or flavors.
06:59Firstly, we have Dairy Milk Marvelous Creations.
07:02This one has jelly popping candy inside.
07:04Don't quote me on this,
07:05but I feel like back in the early 2000s in the UK,
07:08we had a Wonka series of chocolate bars,
07:10which were inspired by Willy Wonka.
07:13Now, I think that was actually a Nestle product,
07:15but they had interesting flavors.
07:16They did things like putting jelly beans and popping candy
07:18into their chocolate bars.
07:20They've disappeared.
07:21Don't know what happened to them.
07:22But I feel like this is Cadbury's attempt to get in on that,
07:24bring that back a little bit.
07:26Probably pretty well-timed because, you know,
07:28the Wonka movie's out soon.
07:29It's going to really date this video,
07:30but we love Chalamet.
07:32These are pretty good.
07:32I do think it's like an interesting textural experience
07:35when you eat one of these,
07:36because it's the kind of chewiness of the jelly bean
07:38mixed in with the melty milk chocolate.
07:41Not my favorite, but hey,
07:43if you want something a little bit different,
07:44then this is for you.
07:46Then we're onto the Big Taste bars.
07:48This is the Dairy Milk Big Taste Oreo Crunch.
07:51I did mention there was a theme of Dairy Milk
07:53and Oreo crossover products,
07:54and this is the next one in that line.
07:56So with the Big Taste bars,
07:57they are thicker than a standard chocolate bar would be.
08:00And because of that, they have like layers going on.
08:02Basically double the height.
08:04So here is the standard Dairy Milk Oreo,
08:06and here is the Big Taste Oreo.
08:08As you can see,
08:09you get much more distinct layers on this one.
08:14I'm going to be honest,
08:15I think I just prefer the standard one.
08:18One iconic Cadbury product is the Freddo.
08:20A Freddo is a small,
08:21individually wrapped chocolate bar
08:22that's in the shape of a frog.
08:23Now you can get two versions of this.
08:25You can either get a standard one,
08:26which is just milk chocolate,
08:28or you can get a caramel Freddo.
08:29Much like a Dairy Milk caramel bar,
08:31it's a shell of milk chocolate,
08:33with that kind of liquidy caramel on the inside.
08:35I love Freddos.
08:35I feel like a lot of Brits have a nostalgic attachment to them.
08:38I can't tell if they've shrunk over the years,
08:40or if I've just got bigger,
08:41or possibly both.
08:42But I do feel like back in the day,
08:43when you were a little kid,
08:44these are a nice little snack-sized treat.
08:46Whereas nowadays, this is like a mouthful.
08:48This is kind of tiny.
08:49They're also worth pointing out,
08:50because in the UK,
08:51they've become an unlikely economic yardstick.
08:53When I was a kid, they cost just 10 pence,
08:55but the price has risen drastically over the past few years.
08:58At one point in 2017, the price rose as high as 30p for one of these,
09:02whereas I think it's now dropped back down to 25,
09:04after probably a lot of public outcry.
09:06Because of the fluctuating price,
09:07they've kind of become a measure of inflation and cost of living here in the UK.
09:10People's paychecks do not buy them as many Freddos as they used to,
09:13and that is a sad thing.
09:15That's funny, Harry.
09:16And the U.S. Cadbury tried what I think are similar shenanigans,
09:19by decreasing the size of the products.
09:21Back in 2007, U.S. comedian and actor B.J. Novak outed Cadbury on The Conan O'Brien Show
09:27for suddenly making Cadbury eggs smaller.
09:29In the UK, we also have a couple of plant-based chocolate options.
09:32They're made with almonds instead of dairy,
09:34in order to try and replicate a milk chocolate feel.
09:36And they come in two forms,
09:37either as a classic bar or as a salted caramel.
09:41It's actually not that bad.
09:43They've done really well, I think,
09:44to replicate the texture of milk chocolate,
09:46because as it kind of claims on the packaging,
09:49smooth, I think, is the word.
09:50It really is quite a smooth experience.
09:52It does kind of melt in your mouth,
09:53almost like a milk chocolate bar would.
09:54I think what's letting it down, really, for me,
09:56is still the taste of it, rather than the texture.
09:58It tastes almost more like a sort of cooking chocolate,
10:01or, like, you know, when you get those really cheap chocolate chips
10:04and it feels like there isn't enough cocoa or, like, creaminess to them.
10:08We have these four exclusive bars here in the U.S.
10:12We got Rock the Road, which is milk chocolate with roasted almonds,
10:17marshmallows, and fudge.
10:21No, I don't like that.
10:22We have a royal dark dark chocolate.
10:25I'm sure you have several dark chocolates.
10:26Ours is royal.
10:28I'm not a big dark chocolate guy.
10:31Not as bitter as I expect from dark chocolate,
10:33so not bad, but, eh, I don't know.
10:36Again, just okay.
10:38Roasted almond.
10:41Generous with the almonds, right?
10:42It's a pretty good almond haul.
10:45Last of our exclusive flavors are Black Forest Cake,
10:50which is dark chocolate with cherry-flavored fudge and cookie pieces.
10:55Oh, man.
10:55Okay, so apparently in the U.K. you would call us a Black Forest Gâteau,
11:00which is funny, because you didn't use the French words for black or forest.
11:03Well, I'm the Black Forest in Germany, so.
11:06Oh, yeah, that's right.
11:07And the Black Forest in Germany.
11:09Eew, you guys don't know what's going on.
11:11I'm going to be honest with you, chocolate and cherry, not my favorite combo.
11:18Oh, God.
11:20This is terrible.
11:21This is the worst one.
11:22Oh, I hate this.
11:23Next up, we're onto buttons.
11:24Now, Cadbury buttons are just pieces of dairy milk chocolate shaped into little buttons or little discs.
11:29Buttons come in a range of sizes and flavors.
11:31So the original ones are actually tiny.
11:34I feel like they've kind of fallen out of favor,
11:36or maybe you're just kind of only given to kids.
11:39But this is what, honestly, the classic button looks like.
11:44And it's these really tiny little chocolate discs.
11:47It's literally just plain dairy milk chocolate.
11:50The ones that I would more commonly go for in my adult life
11:53are the ones which are served in these big sharing bags.
11:56And they're more like this size.
11:58So that's like, that's more than double the size, I would say.
12:01And then if that button size is still not big enough for you,
12:04then we have mega buttons.
12:06So we have classic, giant, and mega.
12:09Just one more note on the size of the buttons.
12:11We've observed that the classic ones on the packet are just called buttons.
12:16But what I think used to be called the giant ones are also now just called buttons.
12:22Which you can see because they are still called giant buttons in the orange flavored version.
12:27You can also get buttons in a range of flavors.
12:29So here we have some mint chocolate buttons, some orange chocolate buttons.
12:33These ones are called caramel nibbles.
12:35But I always thought they were just caramel buttons.
12:36Because again, they're kind of the disc shape,
12:38but with a little pocket of caramel in the middle.
12:40And you can also get dark milk buttons.
12:42Now these are a Cadbury invention,
12:43which is somewhere between dark chocolate and milk chocolate,
12:46as well as Cara milk buttons.
12:47And if you want just actual dark chocolate,
12:49Cadbury's calls that Bourneville.
12:51And they have giant Bourneville dark chocolate buttons.
12:54Another Cadbury product in the UK are Cadbury fingers.
12:56Now these are a classic.
12:58I feel like these are a staple in a lot of British households.
13:01Basically what you get is a layer of biscuit along the bottom,
13:04which is then kind of just completely dunked in Cadbury milk chocolate.
13:09Can't figure out exactly what the biscuit is.
13:11I think it's kind of like shortbread.
13:13You can also get Cadbury fingers in a range of sizes and flavors.
13:16For example, you can get these little bite-sized pouches.
13:18We have the salted caramel fingers here.
13:20But you can also find white chocolate fingers,
13:23orange chocolate fingers, mint chocolate fingers and dark.
13:26One thing which is just launched in the UK at the time of filming is Cadbury Delights.
13:30These are a new range of products, which I believe are nougat covered in chocolate.
13:33These come in the flavors of hazelnut and caramel, orange and caramel and salted caramel.
13:38Another exclusive we have in the US are the mini chocolate eggs, harvest eggs.
13:43But it's around the holidays right now.
13:45So we have instead mini snowballs.
13:49I feel like they're the same.
13:50These are the same. Come on.
13:51Yeah, just milk chocolate with a crisp, sugary shell is this in here.
13:57Good for snacking, I think.
13:59I think these taste the best out of everything here, to be honest.
14:04I also have the cream eggs.
14:05Couldn't find them anywhere. I thought these would be everywhere.
14:07Now they're gone. I don't know what happened to them.
14:09But you know what they look like. We have them.
14:11Tragically, we're filming this in November,
14:13so we can't get our hands on our seasonal egg exclusives.
14:16Cadbury's is obviously known for cream eggs, but also has mini eggs,
14:19which I believe are eggcellent.
14:21In the UK, we can obviously get the classic cream egg,
14:23but we can also get white cream eggs and caramel eggs.
14:26We can also get classic mini eggs as well as a mini eggs bar.
14:28However, I will point out that because it's in the run-up to Christmas,
14:31we are able to get Heroes right now,
14:33which is a Cadbury selection box typically eaten around the holidays.
14:36As part of a Heroes box, you can get a little bite-size twisted cream egg bar.
14:41I get that, like, you know, you want to create that artificial demand,
14:44but I feel like people are going to eat cream eggs year-round
14:47regardless of availability. So I feel like you should just give the people what they want,
14:51have cream eggs year-round. Same for mini eggs.
14:54Please, I need those much more than cream eggs.
14:56Now we're onto some exclusive chocolate bars,
14:58which you'll find in the UK but not the US.
14:59I'm going to go through them in, like, a roughly alphabetical order here,
15:02starting with the Boost Bar.
15:04Now, I believe when these were first introduced,
15:05they were almost advertised as, like, an energy bar in chocolate form
15:09because I think they had, like, mortifying levels of sugar and glucose in them.
15:13Whereas now, I think they've actually dialed back on that,
15:15and it's kind of just like a chocolate bar with some biscuit and caramel in the middle.
15:19At the Boost Bar. Give me the boost.
15:23Everyone in the UK is watching, like,
15:24this dummy's never had this before.
15:25No, I haven't. Or if I had, I don't remember it.
15:27Now, you might remember from the buttons,
15:29but when you see dark chocolate in Cadbury's, it's going to be marketed as Bourneville.
15:33Comes in this iconic red packaging as well,
15:36compared to the usual purple colors used by Cadbury's.
15:38Fun fact, Bourneville is actually a real town which you can visit in the UK.
15:42It was created basically by Cadbury to house all of their workers,
15:46and apparently, it's quite a nice place to live.
15:47I'm not sure why they've ended up using that name for their dark chocolate range,
15:50but here it is. You can get it in a few different flavors.
15:52Here, for example, I have the Old Jamaica flavor,
15:55which is a dark chocolate with rum and raisin.
15:57We also have the Bourneville Mint Crisp Bar.
16:00You can also just get it in a standard plain dark chocolate one,
16:02as well as an orange bar as well.
16:04Next up, we have Caramilk.
16:05So, as the name suggests, this is kind of like a caramelly milk chocolate hybrid,
16:09which Cadbury's has released over the past couple of years.
16:12What you end up with is this, like, slightly weird yellowy golden color.
16:19Kind of weird because it's got the texture of, like, a milk chocolate,
16:22but the flavor is much closer to, like, a buttery fudge.
16:25You can also get Caramilk in the form of a Caramilk Crispy Bar,
16:29which is Caramilk chocolate with little crisped rice pieces.
16:32Speaking of crunch, next up, we have a Crunchy Bar.
16:36These are pretty iconic. Basically, what you get is a honeycomb,
16:39which is then dipped in milk chocolate to produce a Crunchy Bar.
16:43When I say honeycomb, obviously, there's no actual beehive in here.
16:45What you do is you mix melted sugar and, I believe, baking soda,
16:49and it kind of, like, aerates and puffs up and then solidifies
16:52to leave you with what we know as kind of, I guess, like, confectioners honeycomb.
16:55Again, slightly controversial take. I don't like Crunchy.
16:58I don't like the texture of the honeycomb on my teeth.
17:00It feels really weird, and I don't enjoy it.
17:02But I know it's a very popular bar, so you do you. That's fine.
17:06Next up is another possible favorite of mine. It's a Curly Whirly.
17:09Now, I love these because it sounds like an American has kind of, like,
17:13improvised the name for a British chocolate bar.
17:15They're a little bit hard to describe.
17:17It's a combination of chocolate and toffee,
17:22but it's in this very distinctive, unique shape.
17:25I'm not really sure what the logic is behind the shape, but...
17:27I'm not sure if the same distinction exists in America, but here in the UK,
17:33if we say something has toffee in it, that implies that it's going to be very chewy.
17:38Kind of similar to caramel in terms of the taste, but a lot more chewy.
17:41Curly Whirlies. Let's go.
17:44I have had these before, and I do really like them.
17:47Oh, yeah.
17:48Mmm. Mmm. Yeah.
17:52Next up, we have some more dark milk products.
17:56Again, this sits somewhere between dark and milk chocolate on the kind of cocoa content scale.
18:00This one is flavored with some little salted caramel pieces.
18:03More of the salted caramel.
18:05Again, with the salted caramel. We get it. It's fine.
18:07You might also be able to find the same bar,
18:09but flavored with some hazelnut praline pieces.
18:11Next up is another classic. It's a double-decker bar.
18:14Our buses aren't the only things that are double-decker here in the UK.
18:16We also have these chocolate bars.
18:18There's, like, quite a lot going on in a double-decker bar.
18:20I do love them. I'm going to be honest.
18:21So what you get is, obviously, the dairy milk chocolate coating on the outside.
18:28But then on the inside, you see you have this big layer of nougat.
18:31And on the other side, you have lots of these little crispy,
18:34I think kind of like crispy rice pieces.
18:36Moving on from that, we have a flake.
18:39So I don't really understand how flakes are made, but they are quite impressive.
18:42Basically, I think what they do is they get, like, a kind of, like, waterfall of chocolate.
18:47And the way that it kind of, like, hits the refrigerated surface,
18:50it kind of, like, folds in on itself.
18:52And you get this really, like, layered flaky texture.
18:55Flakes are pretty iconic.
18:57The main use of flakes, arguably, in the UK is in ice cream cones.
19:00What you will usually get is a whipped ice cream cone, Mr. Whippy,
19:04and then they just stick a flake in there as well.
19:06Flakes have also apparently been the center of some controversy this year.
19:11Because due to the weird structure of them, they don't melt.
19:16Now, unlike most of the chocolate that I've been trying today,
19:19I've kind of come away with, like, little bits of melted chocolate on my hand.
19:21But basically, due to how thin the layers of the chocolate are,
19:24when it melts, the solids and the fats don't really separate like they should do.
19:29And therefore, it just can't melt.
19:30You can put one of these in, like, a bain-marie and it will just not melt.
19:33You can microwave one and it will just burn before it starts to melt.
19:37The fun facts don't stop there. We're rolling straight in to the Fry's chocolate cream.
19:42Now, obviously, these do not have the same packaging
19:46or branding as the rest of them, but they are indeed manufactured by Cadbury's.
19:51So these are bars of dark chocolate with a fondant cream center.
19:54They're worthy of special mention because these are some of the first ever mass-produced chocolate bars.
19:59They take their name from the Fry family, who were a Quaker family from Bristol in the UK.
20:02Now, the Fry's were actually the first people to figure out how to make mass-produced chocolate bars.
20:06We're going all the way back to the 1840s here in the UK.
20:09But around that time, people only really drank chocolate.
20:11It was quite rare to get, like, you know, a piece of chocolate or a chocolate bar.
20:14The Fry's were the first ones who figured out how to press cacao beans
20:17to separate the fats from the solids.
20:19Now, they were doing this just to try and make a drinking powder that was kind of easier to dissolve,
20:23but inadvertently figured out how to separate all the materials
20:27and then reincorporate them in order to make a shelf-stable chocolate bar.
20:33That's a taste of history right there.
20:34This is the packaging. It's a Fry's chocolate cream.
20:37The packaging of this one is suspicious.
20:39It's like the lowest effort of packaging.
20:41It's just this white text, no drop shadow, a little bit of the bar right there.
20:49No, I do not like this.
20:51Now, while they're not technically products themselves,
20:52rather an amalgamation of products,
20:54we have some selection boxes here in the UK, which are worth pointing out.
20:57Now, these will start to pop up in stores around Christmas time,
20:59which is when they're usually eaten.
21:01Now, these are what's known as a selection box.
21:02So basically, you have small individual versions of quite a few of their different chocolate bars,
21:07which you can then share with the family.
21:09So the box of heroes will contain eclairs, fudge, whisper, dairy milk, crunchy bits, twirl,
21:14dairy milk caramel, double decker, and the cream egg twisted.
21:18We also have roses, and these aren't really based on existing brands.
21:22These are more just like classic chocolate box selections, I suppose.
21:25So we have things like the orange cream, the strawberry dream.
21:28We do actually have some mini dairy milk bars in here now, as well as a few other ones.
21:32I feel like in my power rankings of all the chocolate selection boxes,
21:37I don't know if the Cadbury ones win for me.
21:38I do think Celebrations might win for me,
21:40which is like the Mars brand equivalent of these ones.
21:43I'm thinking it's probably Celebrations, Heroes, Roses,
21:47and Quality Street, of course, the classics.
21:49Man, British Christmas, what a wonderful time.
21:52While we're talking about selection boxes, I should also mention the milk tray.
21:56Now, these are a classic. These have been going back years and years and years.
22:00I feel like it's less of a thing now, but these were very, very popular to gift to people,
22:04whether, you know, someone's had you around for a dinner party or it's a birthday.
22:07Give someone a milk tray back in like the kind of 60s or 70s.
22:11It was just the dumb thing to do.
22:12Back to the chocolate bars. This is a picnic bar.
22:15I actually don't know if I've ever had a picnic bar before,
22:18mostly because they contain raisins.
22:19It's a milk chocolate bar, but then inside, it's kind of just like a mixture of everything.
22:23You get raisins, you get peanuts, there's crispy cereal in there.
22:27I think there's caramel as well.
22:28Next up is the Cadbury Time Out Wafer.
22:30I'd say this is more of a biscuit bar than a chocolate bar,
22:33but you have layers of biscuit and chocolate,
22:35which are then obviously coated in more Cadbury dairy milk chocolate.
22:38Then we're onto a twirl.
22:40These are kind of similar to the flake in terms of the texture.
22:43It's kind of like flaked texture inside,
22:45but the actual individual bars are coated with chocolate.
22:48Twirl. What is a twirl?
22:49Oh, I like this. It's just okay.
22:54I don't like the airy texture of it.
22:57Man, these are a classic.
22:58I feel like these have almost gone extinct.
23:00This is a Chomp bar.
23:02It's kind of the same as a Curly Whirly,
23:04in that it's basically a layer of toffee covered in milk chocolate,
23:07but instead of that weird patterning with the gaps,
23:10this is just a solid bar.
23:11I feel like these have always been served in this kind of small-sized bar
23:14as more of a snack maybe aimed towards kids,
23:16but I love a Chomp. These are brilliant.
23:18Shh. It's a Whisper bar.
23:20I don't fully understand Whisper bars.
23:22I like them. Don't get me wrong,
23:24but it just kind of like feels like you're getting less chocolate for your money
23:28than you are with some other bars,
23:30because basically they've taken a milk chocolate bar,
23:31but they've figured out how to aerate it
23:34and kind of like put little air bubbles in.
23:37What they've really gone for is a texture
23:39where when you bite into it,
23:41it almost like melts on your tongue.
23:42We also have a Whisper Gold bar.
23:44Whisper Gold is the same aerated texture,
23:46but it has a layer of caramel running along the top.
23:48Next up, we have a Star Bar.
23:50Now, the way I see it, this is just like a better picnic bar.
23:53So a Star Bar is basically just milk chocolate on the outside,
23:56caramel and peanuts.
23:58Next up, we have the Fudge Bar.
23:59It's a layer of fudge with some Cadbury chocolate on the outside.
24:02They're still in the Heroes box, which I like,
24:04but I feel like not that many people like them anymore.
24:06And then finally, for the time being,
24:08Eclairs.
24:09So the Cadbury Eclair is very different to the Pastry Eclair.
24:12It's basically a ball of toffee with chocolate on the inside.
24:15I always like these.
24:17There's always something really satisfying about the texture of toffee to me.
24:20I had braces as a little kid, and I really missed toffee when I had braces.
24:25So I'll never take toffee for granted again.
24:27Now, Cadbury in the U.S. is a brand that's manufactured by Hershey.
24:32So there's no sub-brands under Cadbury in the United States.
24:35However, Hershey does own about 29 brands.
24:38Here are a few that are exclusive to the U.S. In no particular order.
24:42First one, Milk Duds have been to movie theater in the U.S.
24:45Recognize that sound?
24:47Some jerk sitting two rows behind,
24:49he doesn't understand, he's making noise.
24:50He got Milk Duds!
24:52Milk Duds are like curly whirlies in button form.
24:56Yeah, that's actually pretty good what I just did there.
24:57It is just caramel covered in chocolate,
25:01but it is in button form and not like drizzle form.
25:03These guaranteed stuck to your teeth.
25:06Guaranteed you're digging these out of your teeth.
25:09A Heath bar is, hang on, English toffee enrobed in rich chocolatey coating.
25:15They wrote that like they thought an American would read that and be like,
25:19this is from England.
25:20Mounds is chocolate and coconut.
25:22There it is.
25:23It's a mound, looks a little bit like a rabbit turd.
25:25It's just a chunk of coconut covered in dark chocolate.
25:31Now, if you're looking at this and you're being like,
25:33it needs something else, Joe.
25:34Yes, it does.
25:35How about almonds?
25:38Almond Joy.
25:38The exact same thing as a mounds, but if said rabbit ate a bunch of almonds whole,
25:45coconut and chocolate, coconut, almonds and chocolate.
25:48Some of the bars are also available in the form of these bite-sized pieces.
25:51These come in bags.
25:52Notably, we have some Crunchy Rocks.
25:54We have Bitsa Whisper.
25:56We have Curly Whirly Squirlies.
25:58And the least fun name, 12 Bites.
26:01These are more designed to be shared than obviously a classic chocolate bar would be.
26:04I think the idea is maybe you get a bag of these,
26:07take it into the cinema or something, watch a film, get a little snack.
26:10Next up, we have brunch bars.
26:11These are Cadbury's take on cereal bars.
26:13We've got these brunch bars in three different flavors.
26:15We have a raisin one, a milk choc chip one and a dark choc chip one.
26:19I do actually quite like these.
26:21These were like an occasional packed lunch inclusion when I was growing up.
26:26Basically, it's a cereal bar made mostly with oats,
26:30but then you get this base layer of chocolate,
26:33as well as, in this case, some choc chips as well.
26:37Yeah, they've got like a nice chewy texture.
26:39And then finally, it's time for what we'll call the best of the rest.
26:42These are the kind of miscellaneous Cadbury products,
26:44which don't really fit into any of the other categories,
26:46but are still worth talking about.
26:47Firstly, we have animal biscuits.
26:50These were, again, like a classic packed lunch staple when I was younger.
26:54You get a little biscuit, which on one side is kind of like decorated in the shape of an animal,
26:59and on the other side is just dipped in dairy milk chocolate.
27:02Gotta give a shout out to mini rolls.
27:04These are another like, maybe grandma biscuit tin staple.
27:08These are actually like a cake, basically, rather than a biscuit or a chocolate bar.
27:13It's a roll of chocolate sponge cake, which is then, like I say, rolled up with a little like layer
27:17of cream in the middle, and then the whole thing is dipped in milk chocolate as well.
27:23And then while we're talking about Cadbury cakes, we also have Cadbury cake bars.
27:26It's kind of similar to mini rolls in that you have the chocolate sponge.
27:29It's all coated in chocolate as well, but you have that caramel layer along the top.
27:34Then we're onto a couple of fridge desserts.
27:36These are Cadbury's milk chocolate sticky puds.
27:39So these are great.
27:40I've had like these or an iteration of these many times in the past.
27:45Basically, they come in these little plastic pots, which are microwavable.
27:50And the typical way to eat these is that you maybe piss the film on this,
27:53put the whole thing in the microwave for 30 seconds, a minute or so,
27:57take it out, flip it onto a plate, and it comes out.
28:02Cooking it kind of like steams the sponge when it's in there.
28:04And then there's like a chocolate sauce, as you can see on the packaging,
28:08which is kind of collected at this end.
28:09And then when you flip it, it ends up kind of like drizzling down the side of the puds.
28:14And it's very nice, like a fun kind of like fancy feeling dessert
28:17that you can just have at home in 30 seconds.
28:19Pud, of course, is short for pudding, which is what we call dessert.
28:22And then we also have these dairy milk pots of joy.
28:25These are apparently a smooth and creamy dessert made with melted Cadbury milk chocolate.
28:30I've not had one of these before.
28:31I think they're like a yogurt, basically like a chocolate yogurt pot.
28:34I'm not sure what to make of this next one,
28:36because it feels a little bit like America is infiltrating our Cadbury products.
28:40But this is Cadbury dairy milk fruitier and nuttier orange trail mix.
28:45These, I believe, are new.
28:47I don't think Cadbury's been doing trail mix for a very long time.
28:49I also don't think trail mix is very popular in the UK in general.
28:52Like, it's just not that common.
28:54So in a bag of this, apparently, you get sweetened cocoa,
28:57dairy milk orange buttons, raisins and sultanas, roasted almonds and hazelnuts.
29:02Speaking of things meant to sound English, it's a York peppermint patty.
29:05All the way from the city of York.
29:07It is this, and it's just, instead of coconut, it is, ugh, peppermint.
29:13Mr. Good bar, chocolate and peanuts.
29:17This bar, the packaging, you can tell this is an old school bar.
29:20This bar is so old that its main selling point was like,
29:23we assure you there's peanuts in this bar.
29:26We're not lying to you, all right?
29:28Yes. You won't believe how packed with peanuts this bar is.
29:32Is this true to the good bar guarantee on the back?
29:38Possibly more.
29:39Wow. They over-delivered on the promise of peanuts.
29:43Fifth Avenue bar, I don't know what this is.
29:44Eugh.
29:46Whatchamacallit, let's go.
29:51Chocolate, peanut-flavored crisps and caramel.
29:56Definitely very peanut buttery.
29:58Eh, it's okay.
29:59We have two options when it comes to beverages for Cadbury's in the UK.
30:02Here we have original Cadbury hot chocolate,
30:05and then we also have Highlights milk choc drink.
30:08I'm not massively sure what the difference is, but I think,
30:10just judging from kind of a look on the packaging,
30:13Highlights might be designed as kind of like a diet option,
30:16just because it's described as an instant,
30:19low-calorie milk chocolate flavor hot drink.
30:22Staying in the cupboard section of the Cadbury's aisle,
30:24now we're onto the chocolate spread.
30:26This is effectively kind of like a Nutella,
30:28but it doesn't have hazelnuts in it,
30:29so this is just like a pure chocolate spread.
30:31Now we're moving on to the bakery section of your supermarket.
30:34I got most of these from an Asda in London,
30:36so I do think the availability will vary slightly
30:39depending on where you are and which supermarket you're visiting,
30:41but I will say that most supermarkets will have a bakery section,
30:44and you'll probably see some Cadbury branding in there somewhere.
30:47Here's what I was able to find.
30:48We have three of these bagged goods from the Bakery at Asda range.
30:52Firstly, we have some Oaty Bakes,
30:54which are oat flapjacks containing milk chocolate.
30:57Next up, we have some Cadbury Dairy Milk Shorty Squares.
31:00Shorty's like a melody in my square.
31:05Shorty Squares are a short cake packed with, again,
31:08some Dairy Milk chocolate chunks.
31:10Then we have some Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate cookies.
31:13We're staying in the bakery aisle.
31:15Now we're onto Dairy Milk Caramel Donuts.
31:18Now I'm kind of intrigued by these. I love donuts.
31:23It's just very dry.
31:25And then we have a few more baked goods,
31:26namely the Dairy Milk Caramel Mini Cookies,
31:29Dairy Milk Corn Flake Cluster Bites,
31:32and some Dairy Milk Brownie Bites.
31:35Then we're going to round things off with a few seasonal items.
31:37As I mentioned, unfortunately, we weren't able to get the Easter exclusives,
31:40which are pretty iconic, namely the cream egg and the mini egg.
31:43But because we're kind of in the Christmas Halloween period,
31:46I was able to get some of those exclusives instead.
31:48We'll start with the Halloween ones,
31:49which has just come and gone here in the UK.
31:51But we were able to find some mini bonfire logs, which are fun.
31:56I think these are like a mini roll,
31:57but instead of the classic kind of chocolate sponge,
32:00they've used a honey, honeycomb sponge instead.
32:02And then another spooky seasonal exclusive are the pumpkin patch cakes.
32:07These are chocolate cakes with an orange colored cream filling.
32:10Then we have some Cadbury Christmas Puds.
32:13These are Dairy Milk chocolate balls with a hazelnut truffle center,
32:17hazelnut pieces and rice crisps.
32:21Again, it's that combination of like chocolate and nuts.
32:24Just can't go wrong for me.
32:26And of course, we can't talk about seasonal exclusives
32:29without talking about advent calendars.
32:31We love our advent calendars over here.
32:33Cadbury's, of course, has to get involved.
32:35And they have a very simple but very effective chocolate advent calendar.
32:41This 110 gram bar of Cadbury Dairy Milk costs £1.35 at Tesco.
32:46Breaking that down, you're paying 1.22 pence per gram of chocolate.
32:49In the US, our bar is 99 grams and it costs $2.79, which is 2.8 cents per gram.
32:57So per gram, it's a 91% increase in the US.
33:00Ooh, getting gouged, baby.
33:05Here's everything in a bar of dairy milk chocolate in the UK.
33:08Milk, sugar, cocoa butter, cocoa mass, vegetable fats, palm and shea, emulsifiers, E442, ammonium
33:16phosphatides, E476, polyglycerol, polyricinoliate, and flavories.
33:22Here's everything in a US dairy milk chocolate bar.
33:26We got sugar, milk, chocolate, cocoa butter, lactose, lecithin, PGPR, natural flavor, artificial flavor.
33:38UK chocolate is often considered as superior by some, including myself, to US chocolate.
33:43And there are a few reasons for that.
33:44Firstly, the UK rules for its chocolate production from the Cocoa and Chocolate Products Regulations
33:48of 2003 set minimums for milk chocolate at 25% cocoa fat, cocoa butter and milk fat,
33:555% milk fat, 20% dry cocoa solids, 2.5% dry nonfat cocoa solids, and 20% dry milk solids.
34:03In the US, our FDA rules for our milk chocolate differ quite a bit.
34:0710% chocolate liqueur, 12% milk solids, which can be either powder or condensed milk,
34:13at least 3.39% fat, and no more than 55% sugar.
34:18Secondly, those of us on this side of the Atlantic can feel that American chocolate
34:21has a sour, almost vomity taste to it.
34:24That's all very well and good for American branded chocolate bars,
34:26but why doesn't US Cadbury taste like it does over here in the UK?
34:30It starts with the Hershey Company. Back in the early 1900s, the company introduced
34:34cost-cutting measures, including a process to make its milk last longer in production.
34:38For this, they used a secret method called liposis, liplosis, lipolysis.
34:46The details of Hershey's chocolate-making process are a company secret,
34:50but part of the process involves butyric acid.
34:53Butyric acid extends the shelf life of milk, but it does partially sour it.
34:57It's also found in Parmesan cheese, fermented foods like sauerkraut, and of course, vomit.
35:02Hershey's became a powerful chocolate company in the US.
35:06So much so, they successfully forced a ban on an import of Cadbury's chocolate into the US.
35:11In 1988, Hershey's acquired the US Cadbury license and has been producing it in the US
35:16with their own Americanized formula, putting them in similar-looking Cadbury packages ever since.
35:22Remember the price section from earlier? Well, it turns out that not only are Americans paying
35:25basically double the price for their chocolate as we are, but they're also getting a worse quality
35:29product. That's kind of sad.
35:33100 grams of dairy milk chocolate in the UK contains the following.
35:36534 calories, 30 grams of fat, of which 18 grams are saturated, 57 grams of carbs,
35:42of which 56 grams are sugars, and 56 milligrams of sodium.
35:46Let's compare that to a 99-gram bar over here, seeing as there's only one gram difference.
35:52500 calories, 57.5 grams of carbs, 27.5 grams of total fat, 17.5 grams of saturated fat,
36:0055 grams of total sugars, 7.5 grams of protein, and 100 milligrams of sodium.
36:05If we compare the 100-gram stats in the UK to the 99-gram stats in the US,
36:09you'll find that the UK actually has slightly more calories and fat, although it has less carbs and
36:14much less sodium. Give me, I was going to say a weekend, but I think realistically one hungover sundae.
