00:00To reunite these world-class renowned soloists all together with two symphony orchestras,
00:08five or six different conductors from different countries, it's not easy, but at the same time
00:15it's really important for the classical music business and for the classical music sector,
00:20so I think that's the main thing. In only two weeks all these amazing stars together sharing
00:28music with the audience, with the musicians, with the staff, that's impressive.
00:35The 14th annual edition of In Classica International Music Festival returned to Dubai with some musical
00:44masterpieces. The two-week program forms the world's biggest classical music observatory,
00:49bringing together some of the most established musicians and exciting new talent from around
00:54the globe.
00:55I think what they're trying to do is really quite remarkable and particularly in this day
01:02and age where we need music to somehow bring some sanity to this world and it's lovely to
01:10see the audience growing and to see more and more local people attend to hear music which
01:18to hear music which I suppose to a certain extent is a little bit foreign to them in terms of culture.
01:25But, you know, as we know music is a universal language and I think we somehow communicate.
01:33This year's festival was dedicated to composer in residence Alexi Shaw whose 55th birthday
01:40was celebrated throughout the festival programming. His music has had a defining presence in recent
01:46years here at In Classica.
01:48I need particular sources of inspiration to write music. I just love writing music and pretty
02:01much any emotions even like pretty mundane day-to-day things can trigger some musical thoughts. But if you mean like
02:03musically then of course my inspiration comes from the works of the greats and I just try to sort of speak in my own voice but in the framework created by them.
02:18It's one of the greatest pleasures of listening to music live because the interpretations are also different and different performers find little nuances that I wasn't aware of.
02:43And it's truly wonderful for me.
02:51Highlights from the 16 concerts included a performance by Swedish violinist Daniel Lozakovic, a prodigious talent who gave his first live concert at just nine years old.
03:02When you're on stage it's in some ways a declaration of truth.
03:11And if you don't have this truth inside you on stage then I feel the audience will feel it.
03:18And if the performer doesn't have this full declaration of love the audience won't feel the love for the music.
03:26And they won't in some ways get hypnotized by it as I believe true music can.
03:32And true music is not entertainment. For me it's a revelation. It's something that connects us to a deeper understanding of our soul, our meaning of having a heart.
03:51And for the composers to create great music they had to really sacrifice themselves fully.
03:58And it's not all about the musicians at In Classica. The audience are very much at the heart of this world-renowned festival.
04:06Of course you're trying to give 100% of yourself, but at the same time you need the energy of the musicians, you need the energy of the audience too.
04:15If they are shy you would love to convince them about what you're playing is a very nice music.
04:21If they are so enthusiastic maybe they need an anchor or two.
04:25And so I'm trying to play with the elements I find every day, no?
04:32So I try to just achieve great things with the elements I have.
04:39From Beethoven to Bach and beyond to Alexis Shaw, the legacy of In Classica continues to evolve and grow each year along with its programming and audiences.
04:48Thank you very much!
