Bridgewater home care , Sandwell.
Transcript
00:00Hi, my name is Chris Taylor. I'm the director of Bridgewater Home Care, Sandwell.
00:05Great to meet you, Chris. If you can tell us a little bit about what you hope to do with Bridgewater Home Care here in Sandwell.
00:12Right, okay. Bridgewater Home Care, our aim is to basically improve and raise the standard of support
00:23and the quality of support available to people who are interacting with adult social care in Sandwell and the Black Country area.
00:33I'm a veteran myself. I got medically discharged in 2017 after 18 years servicing the RAF.
00:42And the honest truth is, without the support of my dad and my family, I wouldn't be stood here talking to you today.
00:51But not everybody is that lucky. Because when I came here, there was no such thing as op courage or things like that.
00:58Now, my dad used to keep my head above water every single day. He knew when I was in a bad point.
01:05He knew I could see things coming or I could pick up the phone. I'd see him every day.
01:10He'd keep my head above water all the time. But in October 2023, he passed away.
01:17And just before he passed away, he was in hospital. But he was worrying about how I'd react and how I'd respond to him not being there.
01:26Because he knew how heavily I relied on him. And he was really worried about me.
01:31So he had a conversation with me. And said, look, Chris, when I see you helping people, I can see a glow about you.
01:40And then he says, so get out there and do that. Because I think it'll be good for you, son.
01:46So when he passed away, he left me a bit of money. And literally, I invested it all in this to try and make a difference to people in the area.
01:57Now, rather than trying to be a jack of all trades and master of none, we're focusing on supporting veterans and people living with dementia.
02:06Now, to make it easier for myself, I could have gone for like a bigger franchise brand.
02:12I became part of a franchise which is Bridgewater Home Care, which isn't as well known around here.
02:18But where it started off up in Wigan, it's very well established and very well known.
02:23But the morals and values and ethos and everything of the franchise or Phil Eckersley sat well with me and aligned with what I wanted to do.
02:35So although it's a struggle trying to get people to know who we are and what we're doing, that's why we went with that brand.
02:42And the key thing for us is we employed the dad standard.
02:48So we call ourself a family and to become part of the family, you've got to pass the dad standard.
02:54And the dad standard is would I personally trust them to look after and support my dad?
03:00If the answer is no, or if I'm second guessing myself, they don't get to become part of the family.
03:07Because how could I, hand on heart, send them out to look after you or your loved one?
03:12I just couldn't do it.
03:14So as far as I'm concerned, we've got some great care specialists.
03:18We offer great support from companionship, home help, personal care, medication support, getting them to trips, getting them out to groups, palliative care, end of life.
03:32And we do live in care as an alternative to going into a care home.
03:37So yeah, if anybody's got any questions or they want help through the journey, we'll help from diagnosis through to the end of their life.
03:47And we'll give the best value, the highest quality and the best standard of support that they'll get.
03:57And I'll put it up against anybody in the middle years.
04:01I'm going to go with the end, and let me live.
04:02And I'll give the best value for you.
04:03I'm going to.
04:04I'm going to.
04:05I'm going to.
04:06I'm going to.
