00:00In a while, the government has called for the support to the rollout of the highly anticipated 20 pesos rise program,
00:08a promise that is now being fulfilled, which is set to benefit thousands of households across Visayas and select areas in Metro Manila.
00:17This and other stories in tonight's Business Wrap from the Philippine News Agency.
00:21Moving to our business news, Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tio Laurel Jr. has called for support for the upcoming launch of the 20 peso per kilogram rise program in Visayas and in select parts of Metro Manila.
00:42Tio Laurel said around 4 million individuals or 800,000 families will benefit from the pile of sales of the cheaper rise in Visayas.
00:54Select kadiwa ng Pangulo sites in Metro Manila will also be part of the 20 peso per kilogram rise program.
01:01Tio Laurel, meanwhile, maintained that the rise program is not part of any political maneuver amid the upcoming May 12 midterm elections.
01:09Contrary to allegations that the rise to be sold is poor quality grain used for animal feed,
01:15the program is using a mixture of soon-to-age and aging rice from the National Food Authority.
01:22Tio Laurel urged the public to not sabotage the rice program with fake news and slander, as everyone will benefit from it.
01:30Meanwhile, the national government's revenue, collections, and expenditures continue to grow in the first quarter of the year, according to the Bureau of Treasury.
01:39Revenue collections rose by 6.9% to 998.2 billion pesos from 933.7 billion in the first quarter of 2024.
01:52Tax collections increased by 13.55% to 931.5 billion pesos, citing the strong performance of the Bureau of Internal Revenue and the Bureau of Customs.
02:06Non-tax revenues dropped to 66.7 billion pesos from last year's 113.4 billion.
02:15On the other hand, governance spending hit 1.5 trillion pesos, or 23.8% of the full-year expenditure program.
02:25Expenditures in the first quarter of the year increased by 22.4% from 1.21 trillion pesos in the same period last year,
02:33due to spending on infrastructure and protective social service programs.
02:38And that's the latest business news from the Philippine News Agency.
02:44This is Marita Muahe for Balitang Pambansa.
