Watch as the Cleveland Browns select top-3 prospect Colorado Buffaloes QB Shedeur Sanders with the 144th-overall pick after Sanders slid to Round 5 of the 2025 NFL Draft
Transcript
00:00At one point, maybe really early, at another point early in the second round, and then here it comes in the fifth round, finally.
00:08Shadur Sanders, Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, set a Colorado record with 37 touchdown passes, helped revitalize that Colorado program along with Travis Hunter.
00:20And in this draft process, he's been most unusual, started at Jackson State, played for Deion Sanders at the FCS level, then transferred up.
00:30The thing about Colorado, he didn't have an offensive line in 2023, and then this past year, really both years, not much of a running game at all.
00:37Okay, guys like Marion Hampton and Ashton Jinty had more rushing yards in a game and a half than their top rushing did all year.
00:43But you look at the accurate, precise passing.
00:45One need to be accurate, another to be precise.
00:48As Jadur Sanders is, when he's getting pressured, he has that feel, and he will take a little off, and he will layer throws.
00:54A lot of college quarterbacks don't do that.
00:56He already gets that element of playing quarterback, which he will have to be in the NFL.
01:00The default accuracy, he showed it at the combine, he showed it at Colorado, he showed it at Jackson State.
01:06The ability to slip and slide, yeah, he's not going to run a 4-6, but within the pocket, just give the kid a fighting chance.
01:12Colorado really did.
01:13When he had an opportunity, you saw the strike there, the Will Shepard.
01:16Again, there were games like Oregon, where he had no shot.
01:19Here he avoided the initial pass rusher.
01:21He rolled right, he made a throw.
01:22Just the fact that he's out there, just talking, he's not athletic, it's a bunch of BS.
01:26It's not true.
01:27This kid can avoid, he can move, and he can make throws against his body like this.
01:32Key play against Baylor in that football game, Lou.
01:35I don't get it.
01:36I know you don't.
01:37But here we are in the fifth round, Cleveland Brown, getting a guy who should have been,
01:41in my opinion, a first-round pick, a high first-round pick.
01:44And you look at the sliders, right?
01:45The guys that have slid, the NFL gets it, they know everything.
01:48No, they don't, because the guys that have slid have done really well.
01:51Geno got into the second round, he's doing pretty well, right?
01:53Jimmy Clause and Brady Quinn didn't.
01:55But then there's Aaron Rodgers.
01:56Chad Pennington went 18.
01:58Brett Favre, second round.
01:59Boomer Esiason, second round.
02:00Dan Marino, late first round.
02:03And now you have a situation with Stork dropping to the fifth round.
02:06Tom Brady, everybody said, okay, he was running a sixth-round pick.
02:10When Tom Brady was drafted, there was a quarterback that went 18.
02:14That was Chad Pennington.
02:15The quarterback went in the third round.
02:16That was Giovanni Parmaji from hockey.
02:19When Tom Brady got there, what did he tell Robert Kraft?
02:21He told him, hey, you're our sixth-round pick.
02:23He said, yeah, you're the best decision your organization ever gave to.
02:25It could be, right?
02:26So we're talking about, are you confident, cocky, are you arrogant, or are you charismatic?
02:30There's that fine line there.
02:32I think there's a lot of, is it reality, in regards to Shadour and Deion?
02:37Deion's not going to interfere.
02:39Deion's not going to be calling the coach.
02:40Deion's not going to be commenting about Shadour while he's at Colorado.
02:44Lou, I think there's a lot of just fake news out there surrounding the Sanders family and Shadour and Deion.
02:50Yeah, look, if you get out of your feelings, and I'm saying people who have feelings about Shadour Sanders,
02:57and just objectively evaluate him as a quarterback, it's hard not to like what he can do.
03:01A lot of mental horsepower.
03:03Talk to Pat Shermer out there in Boulder, his offensive coordinator.
03:07Full field reads.
03:08The ability to really decipher pre-snap and then adjust post-snap, put the ball where it needs to be put.
03:12He's got that.
03:13This nonsense about the fact that he's not a good athlete, he's just an average athlete.
03:17This is just one play where he is able to buy time.
03:21He doesn't have a strong arm.
03:22That's nonsense, too.
03:23He can put the ball wherever it needs to be put at the NFL level, all three levels, across the field, drive it in the tight windows.
03:31He's got a lot going for him from a physical skills perspective and how he plays the quarterback position.
03:37This whole situation transcended how he plays the position.
03:41It really became about, do you like him as a person or not?
03:44And that's why he's here in the fifth round, getting drafted to the same team after Dylan Gabriel.
