00:00So first game, which is Friday night, then Clive, Manchester City, home to Wolverhampton Wanderers, Man City then, they're in fourth, that Champions League place and also they're in the cup final as well, whereas Wolves have done really well, haven't they? They've got out of trouble and they're safe.
00:17Yeah, they're safe, thoroughly deserved with the runner form that they've found. Similar to that are City's really, because obviously City were in a little bit of turmoil. Pep's found a way, introduced a few youngsters. I think there's a vibrancy about City as well as that consistency that we know they have at the end of the season.
00:37So I think that this is an interesting one. City need to make, I think it would be unthinkable if they didn't make the Champions League. So finally important for them to win this game. A tough game for them against a Wolves side that are informed, that are confident. But I see City just edging it by two goals to one.
00:572-1, I'm going 2-0. I say City 2-0. I think they're looking good now. All a little bit too, too little, too late. But then again, we can say that. I mean, the way Pep talks about the FA Cup, that's not really good enough. To most of us, you know, we'd be over the moon to win the FA Cup. To win the FA Cup would be everything. But to Pep and all these trophies.
01:16Paul, Champions League qualification and winning the FA Cup, and it's not good enough for Pep and Manchester City. Amazing. Where they're at.
01:28Saturday, let's going to look at the Premier League. I was going to say things are hotting up, but of course Liverpool have already won it. But let's start with the 12-30 then, Clive. Aston Villa against Fulham.
01:39See, Aston Villa lost the last two out of the FA Cup. It's three points off the Champions League spot. Fulham in eighth. So they're going to try and push to get something into Europe. Where do you see this one going?
01:56Again, I've said it for a few weeks now, Paul. I think it's going to go right to the wire. Every single game is going to be vitally important. This is a massive game.
02:04And I think, particularly for Villa, they've had a defeat. They need to get back to winning ways. They had a magnificent Champions League result. Then a Premier League defeat. Fulham are still fighting for some European football next season.
02:21I think it's going to be a close one, but I'm going to go Aston Villa one, Fulham nil.
02:25OK, I'm going to go Aston Villa two, Fulham one. So we're only a goal difference, but I think we agree that Aston Villa are going to win that one.
02:34So that's the 12-30 kickoff. Everton versus Ipswich. So when we talk about players on the beach, we did that the other day, didn't we?
02:40And if it actually makes any difference, Everton, obviously they're going to want to finish strong.
02:45It's their last games being played at Goodison. They're just down to the last few now.
02:51Everton have been a little, I mean, they've been a bit, they're safe, but they've been a little bit patchy.
02:55An Ipswich, Kira McKenna, I don't know, how do you feel if you're an Ipswich fan? How do you feel if you're an Ipswich player?
03:04Oh, I think they've given it a good go. I have to say it was going to be a difficult task.
03:09Back-to-back promotions to go into the Premier League and then expect to stay in the Premier League would have been the most incredible fear.
03:17I do think that they've been in the majority of games that they've played. They've been very competitive.
03:23They've just come up a little short at the end of it all. Everton have done what Everton always do. They stay in the Premier League.
03:32They've never been out of it. You know, you can't say it was a stroke of genius bringing David Moyes back, but it was a very, very, very good move.
03:42And I think they're in safe hands. Obviously, finishing at Goodison, I think there's going to be loads of memories.
03:50They'll want to go out, I think, on a high the last few games. There'll be an amazing atmosphere there at Goodison.
03:56One of my, I have to say, one of my favourites.
03:58I was going to ask you about that because there's something that still goes back to the old days about Goodison.
04:04It's another one of the old stadiums, and especially around the outside, for those that haven't been.
04:09It's just in the middle, isn't it? A load of houses around.
04:13It's amazing, yeah. And there's, because, again, the crowd is so near to the pitch.
04:19It's so intense. It always, you can hear everything that they're saying, and it...
04:25It was always nice stuff about you, though, Clive, wasn't it? You always used to hear?
04:28Oh, always, yeah. Very complimentary, of course.
04:31He's a big deck alive, Alan. I wish he was playing for us, yeah.
04:35Paul, I remember going there as a 14-year-old to play for London schools against Liverpool schools at Goodison Park.
04:40That was my first time that I played at Goodison Park, and there was 10,000 in that night,
04:48and it was unbelievable. I never forgot that. Always look forward to going back there
04:52and obviously score my first lead goals for Spurs there, so it's a ground I'll remember with fondness.
05:00Listen, was there anywhere you didn't score? Was there any place that you went to in the top flight
05:06and you didn't actually score? Because I don't believe there is. You would have scored everywhere, right?
05:11Yeah, there was, unfortunately, yeah. It was the old Roker Park, Sunderland.
05:17When Sunderland was in the top flight, I never scored at Roker Park, unfortunately.
05:21But listen, that was the only one.
05:24The only one. So Sunderland fans, the Roker roar got the best of Clive Allen.
05:29Nowhere else did.
05:31Yeah, and I always had that little feeling, oh, I haven't scored here.
05:35I haven't scored at Roker, and obviously, they've moved on to the stadium alike now.
05:39But yeah, I never had the pleasure, unfortunately.
05:42Okay, the only one. I'd like to pick up on it. I apologise.
05:45And I'm going to go for an Everton 2-0 victory against Ipswich.
05:48Yeah, I'm going the same. I'm going the same. Everton 2, Ipswich 0.
05:52When we talk about teams that are being relegated and those that are coming up,
05:56of course, Leighton Burnley, I want to ask you about Daniel Farker,
05:59because I find this a really bizarre situation, that it truly could be a victim of his own success.
06:08That there's talk that maybe they will go up and then he will be replaced,
06:13which personally, I think, is madness.
06:16And we've seen it before with teams that are going up,
06:18all of a sudden start splashing the cash, change the team entirely,
06:22and then they've got to start almost all over again.
06:25Where do you stand on this?
06:26You've worked as a manager. You've worked with great managers.
06:30You can't surely get rid of him for someone else that maybe hasn't had success,
06:35even though they've been in the Premier League, because he's done that as well.
06:38Yes, I find it really bizarre, to be perfectly honest.
06:42I think he's galvanised that team.
06:45It never ceases to amaze me.
06:48People sometimes underestimate how difficult it is,
06:52one, to get out of the Championship, but two, to actually win it.
06:56And I think Scotty Parker's done a brilliant job at Burnley.
06:59Obviously, they're going up with Leeds and Daniel Farker.
07:02And I think he has had Premier League experience,
07:06albeit maybe with relegated teams.
07:08But I see him, with that group of players,
07:11they should go forward and go into the Premier League together.
07:14I think it would be one of the harshest decisions of the summer
07:18if he leaves Leeds United.
07:21And it could be one of the most stupid decisions as well.
07:23It could be.
07:24Absolutely.
07:25Then the names start flying around.
07:28I don't know how you would feel if you were him,
07:30but it's like Steven Gerrard.
07:32Yeah, OK, great name, great player,
07:34but let's be honest, he hasn't had success as a manager in England anyway.
07:38To then go, well, that's going to be our future,
07:40it seems that some owners,
07:42and it's like we've seen it with Wayne Rooney as well at Birmingham,
07:46that's what we need is a big name.
07:48It's sure, and it amazes me,
07:50that some owners seem so naive to this.
07:54Yeah, absolutely.
07:55Absolutely.
07:56You know, I think they're in a powerful position
07:59when they become owners of these big football clubs,
08:03and Leeds is a massive football club.
08:05But I do feel sometimes it's their understanding of football
08:10that lets them down,
08:11and those decisions eventually come back to haunt them.
08:16No, I wouldn't depart with Daniel Farker, that's for sure.
08:19Good.
08:20Right, Leeds going to go for the, well, this is the game.
08:23Leicester, second bottom against bottom Southampton.
08:27I mean, I'm saying how are Ipswich players
08:29and how are Ipswich fans feeling?
08:31I mean, Leicester and Southampton,
08:32well, they're just going to console each other in this game,
08:35and it's, you know, what to play for?
08:38What to play for?
08:39But obviously, he's got to be a pro and go for it.
08:41Well, what do you make on this?
08:43You're right, Paul.
08:43You've got to be a professional.
08:45You've got to try and provide a performance,
08:48show a performance, get a result
08:49that pleases your supporters first and foremost
08:52after what's been, you know,
08:54a really disappointing season for both clubs.
08:57But I see them playing out a 1-1 draw.
09:00Okay.
09:01Yeah.
09:02That would make it.
09:03Oh, you know what?
09:03Just for the hell of it, I'm going to say nil.
09:06Nil, nil.
09:06Was that just in song?
09:07Yes, or...
09:07That's no good.
09:09I'm not going to say that.
09:10I'm going to say Leicester win.
09:11I'm actually going to say a 2-0 win for Leicester.
09:13That's what I've got.
09:14So, look, we're wishing both the best of luck.
09:16And even that sounds patronising.
09:18Two relegated sides.
09:20Right, to Arsenal then.
09:22Arsenal were second, of course.
09:24We can say now there are bigger fish to fry.
09:27They're going to be in the Champions League.
09:28There's no question about that.
09:30Whether second means that much to them.
09:32But when you've got a game of the significance
09:35of Paris Saint-Germain,
09:36which is going to be happening next week,
09:38and they're at home to Bournemouth,
09:40what do you do as a player?
09:42How do you feel as a manager?
09:43You just go out and go through the motions,
09:45just keep everybody safe.
09:47Do you go out and give it everything?
09:49You can't, surely,
09:50because it's all about next week.
09:52I think you have to, Paul.
09:55And I think as soon as you just take your foot
09:57off the accelerator slightly,
09:59then that's when it's dangerous.
10:02Yeah.
10:02And for Mikko Arteta,
10:04I think he will want that momentum.
10:07A disappointing result against PSG,
10:10as we've discussed,
10:11but it's not the end of this tie.
10:13I still think they're very capable of progressing.
10:17And this is a tough game.
10:19Bournemouth have had a sensational season.
10:21The 10th.
10:22Then he may well make changes.
10:24He'll look at the levels of where his players are at
10:27after that PS2 game.
10:29But I see Arsenal just grinding it out.
10:32And I think it's going to be a really tight game,
10:34and Arsenal win him just by the single goal.
10:361-0 Arsenal.
10:38Did they miss Thomas Partey,
10:39do you reckon, during the week?
10:41Definitely.
10:41Yeah, absolutely.
10:42Yeah, I think Declan Rice just a little bit withdrawn in that game,
10:47played a little bit deeper,
10:49wasn't quite,
10:50I didn't think they were quite as aggressive,
10:52closing down,
10:53pressing as they normally are with Declan,
10:55the little bit deeper.
10:56So,
10:57it was a big miss.
10:58Absolutely.
10:59Thomas Partey not participating.
11:012-0 Arsenal?
11:031-0 Arsenal for me.
11:041-0 Arsenal.
11:051-0 to the Arsenal.
11:06It's been said a few times.
11:07Right, on to Sunday.
11:10Brentford,
11:10who are 11th,
11:11playing Manchester United.
11:13Of course,
11:15playing in Europe on Thursday.
11:17So,
11:17United 14th.
11:18Just,
11:19just not good.
11:21It just is not good enough.
11:22And Brentford under Thomas Frank.
11:23Do you think Thomas Frank,
11:25do you reckon he's a manager
11:26that's now going to be thinking,
11:27maybe it's time for a move,
11:29I'll consolidate and stay exactly where I am,
11:32or maybe now,
11:33this time,
11:34a bigger club is going to come knocking for me?
11:35I think it probably is the time for him
11:38if that opportunity comes.
11:40I thought he spoke,
11:40I thought he spoke this week
11:42really eloquently,
11:43and he spoke and said the right things
11:45about Brentford's football club.
11:47His relationship with the owners,
11:50the way he works with his team,
11:52the way he's been allowed to develop
11:54Brentford as a club
11:55and as a football team.
11:57He's done a brilliant job.
11:58There's absolutely no doubt about that.
12:00And I'm sure there'll be some suitors from,
12:03no disrespect to Brentford,
12:04bigger clubs,
12:05because of what he's done,
12:07how he's handled himself.
12:08I think he's done a magnificent job.
12:11And that could be capped off
12:12with a victory against Manchester United.
12:14And I think at home,
12:16Brentford will cause Manchester United problems
12:18off the back of their European game.
12:20So I'm going to go Brentford 1,
12:22Manchester United 0.
12:23See,
12:24I'm doing my usual again.
12:26You go with the 1-0,
12:27I'm going to go with the 2-1 again.
12:28So I think United will score,
12:29but I think Brentford will win that game also.
12:32I mean,
12:32it's amazing,
12:33isn't it?
12:33We keep doing this every week
12:34and we seem to be right
12:35when we're talking about United.
12:37A couple of years ago,
12:38you'd never dream of,
12:39of always seem to be going,
12:41a Manchester United loss.
12:43But,
12:44you know,
12:44where does it change?
12:45Where,
12:46where,
12:46how do they get better?
12:47What,
12:48what's got to happen at United?
12:49There's no God-given right that they're going to end up
12:51playing the way that,
12:52that,
12:53that Fergie had them,
12:55Alex Ferguson,
12:55because it's never worked since then.
12:57And we seem to be looking at a Manchester United
12:59that I remember,
13:00Clive,
13:01sort of around the mid-70s
13:02and they weren't that powerhouse then,
13:04were they?
13:06Mid-70s and,
13:07uh,
13:07mid-80s as well.
13:09And I played against them in 84,
13:11when Alex had just taken over.
13:13I remember we beat them 4-0 at White Hart Lane
13:15and he went to the press after the game
13:17and he said,
13:17that will never happen again.
13:19And it didn't.
13:20That was the start of United's success.
13:23How many times did you get on with eights?
13:25Two that day,
13:26Paul.
13:26Two games that day.
13:28Yeah.
13:28And it was,
13:29uh,
13:29you know,
13:30even,
13:31even in those days,
13:32Paul,
13:32to beat Manchester United was a,
13:34was a massive result because it was,
13:36it was the great Manchester United.
13:38It was.
13:38And Sir Alex was just,
13:40just really starting to stamp his authority on the club.
13:43And obviously we know history
13:45from there was,
13:46was quite incredible under him.
13:48And it,
13:49and,
13:49and they are a million miles away from,
13:52from getting back to that sort of status
13:53and that sort of power.
13:55Yeah,
13:55they really are.
13:56So,
13:57okay.
13:57So that's Brentford Manchester United.
13:58A few more games.
14:00Uh,
14:00Brighton against Newcastle.
14:01Newcastle.
14:02We,
14:03we,
14:03we've said this over the last few weeks,
14:05this could be their greatest season.
14:06Of course,
14:07they won the Carabao Cup.
14:08Um,
14:09they're in third place on 62 points,
14:11although Nottingham Forest have,
14:12have got a game in hand.
14:14Uh,
14:14Brighton,
14:15Apache,
14:16you know,
14:17it's,
14:17they are Apache,
14:18aren't they?
14:18You don't really know what you're going to get with them.
14:21No,
14:21that's right.
14:22But Brighton is still,
14:23still playing for prizes.
14:25Newcastle,
14:25I think have been brilliant,
14:26obviously from winning the league cup.
14:29Um,
14:29their,
14:30their,
14:30their league form has been superb.
14:33It's only Villa,
14:33isn't the only blemish really has been that Aston Villa game.
14:36That's right.
14:37Um,
14:37I,
14:38I see this being a really close one because two teams,
14:41I love the way both of these teams play.
14:43Yeah.
14:44Um,
14:44I think there'll be goals.
14:45I think it'll be an entertaining game,
14:47but I'm going to call it a draw.
14:49I find it difficult to separate the two of them.
14:51Brighton at home,
14:52Newcastle need,
14:53they both need the result massively.
14:55So I'm going to go Brighton one,
14:57Newcastle.
14:58Well,
14:58I'm getting bored with my two ones,
15:00but I'm going to,
15:00I'm going to,
15:01it's like a clock.
15:02He's always got a stop clock.
15:03He's always going to be right twice.
15:05So twice a day.
15:06Is that right?
15:07I think I've got it right.
15:07Anyway,
15:08Brighton one,
15:09Newcastle two is a big result that it is a big result.
15:14And I think they're going to be ready for it.
15:15I do think they'll win right.
15:17West Ham versus Tottenham Hotspur.
15:18You played for both of them,
15:19of course,
15:20who would have thought seven,
15:2213th against 16th.
15:23Oh my goodness.
15:25It's at the London stadium as well.
15:27Spurs are playing West Ham away.
15:29West Ham always,
15:31I mean,
15:31there's always the joke about the cup final,
15:33but it always means a huge amount of West Ham fans playing against Tottenham.
15:37Oh my goodness.
15:38It's a London derby.
15:39Is it who's worse?
15:40Is that what we're looking at here?
15:42Well,
15:43Paul,
15:43is it a shootout for who's going to finish fourth bottom in the Premier League this season?
15:48Who would have thought?
15:49And,
15:49and I never thought I'd be saying that about,
15:51obviously Spurs or West Ham after the season they had last season.
15:55I think it's been pretty awful from both sides in terms of their domestic form.
16:04Their league form has been horrendous.
16:06Just looking at the stats,
16:08you know,
16:08I think Spurs have had one win in the last six.
16:11West Ham have had one win in the last six,
16:13but so many defeats,
16:15a record number of defeats for Spurs.
16:18It's a bit of a tag on the El Clasico,
16:20and I'm not even going to use those words,
16:22Clive.
16:22I just want to make that clear right now,
16:24because people are using their own version of El Clasico for this game.
16:28And of course,
16:28I wouldn't dread the same.
16:29This could be an absolute Rick Rorrer,
16:32because for sure,
16:36for sure,
16:37Spurs off the back of their European result,
16:39West Ham and their supporters,
16:41just love nothing more than,
16:43than beating Spurs.
16:45So,
16:45I think it's going to be a cracking game,
16:47a close game,
16:48but I'm going to have to say,
16:50West Ham two,
16:51Tottenham one.
16:53Tottenham one,
16:53okay.
16:54I am going to go the same.
16:57I'm sticking with the 2-1.
16:59I can't believe that I keep saying that Spurs are going to lose,
17:02but we seem to be right each time.
17:04You know,
17:04we've got to get it wrong sometimes.
17:06Of course,
17:07you know,
17:07we can hope,
17:08but we've got to do it professionally.
17:09So,
17:10I'm going to say,
17:10naturally,
17:11you know what,
17:11I'm going to,
17:11no,
17:12I'm going to say 1-1.
17:13I'm going to say West,
17:14I'm going to take that two away.
17:15I'm going to say West Ham one,
17:17Tottenham Hotspur one,
17:19then everybody's happy.
17:20Well,
17:21happy,
17:21I'm not so sure.
17:22Right,
17:22coming from a few more games.
17:24Last one on Sunday,
17:26Chelsea versus Liverpool.
17:28So,
17:28Chelsea need this.
17:30They really need this.
17:31You know,
17:32they're in fifth place.
17:33They're in 60 points.
17:34Liverpool,
17:35of course,
17:35are the champions.
17:37Do you just keep playing now?
17:39They're just going to enjoy their games now,
17:41aren't they?
17:41Yeah.
17:42Yeah,
17:42the job's done.
17:44A magnificent season.
17:46Absolutely sensational.
17:49But Chelsea fighting,
17:50and fighting for,
17:51you know,
17:52for a big prize themselves.
17:53So,
17:53I think this is going to be a really close game.
17:56Chelsea are coming off the back of two wins,
17:58which was much needed
17:59to just push them into the Champions League position.
18:04So,
18:05I think it's going to be a close one.
18:07I think it's going to be a tight one.
18:08I'm going to go 1-0.
18:091-0?
18:10I'm actually going to say...
18:12You can't go 2-1.
18:15I'm going to say 2-0.
18:16I'm going to go Liverpool.
18:17Ewan,
18:17who is our producer here,
18:18is not happy about that.
18:18But I'm going to say Chelsea,
18:20nil,
18:20Liverpool 2.
18:21I can hear him.
18:21Yeah,
18:22he's not happy at all about that.
18:23Final one,
18:24then.
18:24This is Monday.
18:2612th place,
18:26Crystal Palace.
18:27Nottingham Forest are in sick.
18:29They've got that game in hand.
18:31The way things look at the moment,
18:32so,
18:32of course,
18:32we've got Liverpool,
18:33who have won the title.
18:34Arsenal on 67.
18:36So tight.
18:36Newcastle 62,
18:37Man City 61,
18:39Chelsea and Forest,
18:40both on 60,
18:42and then Villa,
18:43just three points behind that.
18:44Forest are still on course
18:46for that Champions League place,
18:48which would be an incredible season for them.
18:51And it's away at Crystal Palace.
18:53We've got Crystal Palace,
18:54who've got to the cup final.
18:56If we look at how they started the season,
18:58it was a disastrous start,
18:59and everything's looking good
19:00with Oliver Glasner now.
19:02What do you make on that?
19:04Palace against Forest.
19:06I think this is a really interesting game
19:08because,
19:09obviously,
19:09the prize for Forest,
19:11the position they've been in
19:12for a long period this season,
19:13all of a sudden,
19:14they're looking over their shoulder.
19:16And I'd have to say,
19:17Crystal Palace are the last team
19:19that you want to play at the moment
19:20because,
19:21brilliant,
19:22brilliant semi-final result.
19:24They've got a cup final to come
19:25on the 17th of May.
19:27Yes,
19:28maybe,
19:28just maybe,
19:29players will be thinking about that.
19:31But the one thing for the manager is,
19:34they've got that momentum.
19:35They've got that freedom.
19:36They're in a cup final.
19:38I experienced that myself.
19:40When you win a semi-final of the FA Cup,
19:42when you know you're going to a cup final,
19:44you are desperate to keep things going,
19:46keep that momentum,
19:48keep that rhythm.
19:49And I just see Palace edging this one,
19:52which will be a really disappointing
19:55and poor result for Forest.
19:56So I'm going to go Palace 1,
19:58Forest 0.
19:59I'm going the same.
20:00I'm not even going 2-1.
20:01I'm saying the same as you for that one.
20:02I've actually got 1-0 on that.
20:04Palace against Forest.
20:05Forest,
20:05Clive,
20:06always a pleasure.
20:07Thank you so much for your time.
20:08We always love you doing this.
20:10I think we're going to,
20:11we've realised that during the summer,
20:13maybe we're going to predict tennis
20:14and cricket results.
20:16So we'll see how that goes.
20:17And golf,
20:17hopefully.
20:18And golf results.
20:19Okay,
20:19we'll see how that goes.
20:20Have a great weekend.
