Interviews ahead of the opening of phase one of the new emergency department at Boston's Pilgrim Hospital.
Transcript
00:00In 2019, when the then Prime Minister Boris Johnson came to visit Boston Hospital,
00:06he then committed £21.3 million to the Trust for us to build this wonderful emergency department
00:14that we've been able to build. A total of £49 million it's cost to build this department
00:20when we've finished it all. This is the first phase.
00:23And I think when people come, they'll see our staff, patients, residents of Boston
00:29and the surrounding area will see. It's three times the size of the current stroke old department.
00:37I think if you speak to anyone, residents, staff, anyone that's visited the department,
00:43they'll say it's long overdue.
00:51We're excited and delighted to open the emergency department, this first phase in the development.
00:57This is a well-needed investment for our community.
01:07One of the biggest issues we've had in the previous emergency department was the size of it.
01:12Because we had our doctors who wanted to deliver excellent healthcare and we had patients who
01:17deserved and needed a bigger space to receive the healthcare from.
01:21But we just did not have the place to deliver that healthcare we wanted to deliver.
01:26But with this new emergency department, we have plugged that hole.
01:30To us, it is a marriage of all these three elements
01:32where our doctors can deliver those excellent health cares.
01:36They want to deliver two more patients who need them
01:38and in a place that is suited for that.
