00:05I went to Shanghai.
00:06These children are thousands of kilometers from China.
00:10But in this room, everyone speaks Mandarin.
00:13The Chinese bridge competition offers British students a chance to showcase their language skills.
00:19They perform in videos.
00:23Welcome to Shanghai.
00:25Answer questions.
00:26I went to Shanghai.
00:28And translate sentences.
00:30It's a celebration of the Chinese language, but also the culture.
00:38I have a very big interest in the Chinese culture, the history, and the history is what made the language.
00:44So that's what gave me the interest.
00:46But it's not just fun and games.
00:48This is, after all, a competition.
00:51135 students from across the UK made it to the finals.
00:56And everyone wants to win.
00:58When we first got into the plane to come to London, I felt a lot of nerves, butterflies in my stomach.
01:05And once I got onto the stage, I felt my heart beating a lot.
01:08It's been a super intense competition.
01:11But in the next few minutes, we'll know who are the champions of the UK.
01:16Zach Shaw won the top prize in the advanced language section.
01:20He says the competition inspired him to study harder than ever.
01:24I think it's definitely helped me not only just get better at speaking Mandarin, but also to understand more about Chinese culture.
01:30This event may be a world away from China, but it's helping to bridge cultures.
01:39Because great relationships often start with great conversations.
