Labor now holds 28 seats in New South Wales after it managed to flip Bennelong, Banks and Hughes. The Liberals now reduced to just 12, having lost the seat of Calare to an Independent, with the possibility they may also lose Bradfield. They would join the four other cross benches who were all re-elected last night.

00:00As the drums rolled out in Sydney's West, Parramatta MP Andrew Charlton celebrated
00:11on the shoulders of supporters.
00:16While the backbencher who claimed the state's most marginal seat earned a seat at the table
00:21with the front bench.
00:22It was pretty humbling to win that seat with that margin.
00:26Benalong swung firmly back into Labor's hands just months after turning notionally liberal
00:32in a boundary redraw.
00:33It was one of three seats in New South Wales to switch from blue to red, along with Hughes
00:39in Sydney's South.
00:40For Labor to win back Hughes for the first time in what, that's nearly 30 years, that's
00:43a big change.

00:53In the western suburbs, the Liberals failed to flip Werriwa and suffered a surprise loss
00:58to Labor.
00:59Have a look at the seat of Banks in Sydney's South West.
01:01Of the 46 seats in New South Wales, Labor is on track to hold 28, the Coalition just 12,
01:08the Independents retaining 5 and 1 is still in doubt.
01:12In Watson there were high spirits and high fives, as Cabinet Minister Tony Burke survived
01:17a challenge from an independent backed by the Muslim vote movement.
01:24Education Minister Jason Clare also held on in Blacksland, but the Independents targeting
01:29their seats did sway up to 20% of the primary vote.
01:33The party believed its star candidate, Andrew Constance, would succeed in his second run at
01:38Gilmour.
01:39It's not over yet, I can assure you of that.
01:43The former State Liberal Minister holding on to hope, but Labor will hold on to the seat.
