Although EMVI is similar to apps like Seeing AI or Be My AI, it should be noted right off the bat that EMVI is not 100% free. Though they do provide a free trail period to test things out as well as various payment models on their website https://www.emvi.ai/ On the bright side, EMVI claims to be a much better steward of your sensitive data, reassuring its users that their privacy is maintained while using this app as compared to some free alternatives.

We at Vision Forward would be happy to answer any questions that you still have about EMVI or other AI Apps down in the comments. And be sure to check out the videos we previously made about Be My AI and Seeing AI so that you can find whichever device best suits your needs!

00:00Welcome back, dudes! It's time for another TechConnect!
00:13So today we are going to be diving into the MV app.
00:16Or is it EMVI, Corey? Any ideas?
00:18Well, it really depends on how many of the letters are silent.
00:21This is true. If they're all silent, then it's...
00:26I thought you were miming it for a moment.
00:28So anyway, however you want to say this app, it is available now on the Apple Store.
00:33That would be... What's that one called?
00:35Well, they call that the App Store, yeah.
00:37Thank you. And also available on the Google Play Store.
00:39Now, this is an AI app and we have done various AI apps throughout the years, Corey.
00:44We have done Seeing AI. We have done Be My AI.
00:48We did Envision a long time ago.
00:50Meta.
00:51We've done the Meta glasses.
00:53So the question is, Corey, what does this app do which is different to those ones?
00:57Well, you know, there's only one way to find out.
00:59And that's by getting Corey to do all the work while I sit here and relax.
01:03So let's jump into it.
01:04Check out the first feature, taking a picture and asking questions.
01:07One of the things that sets MV apart from all the other AI apps is its simplicity.
01:15I would say that the layout of the app is pretty basic and I don't mean that in a bad way.
01:21Just I think it's one thing that does set it apart.
01:23If you're looking for a more simple interface, then MV might be the option for you.
01:29Basically, you've got four buttons going across the bottom, although it's not all the way at the bottom where you would typically see tabs.
01:37It's up a little bit, which I thought was kind of an interesting reason.
01:41I don't know why they did that.
01:42But the four buttons or tabs across the bottom, you have the first one is.
01:49This one will be the camera.
01:51Very good.
01:52First one is camera.
01:53Then we have OCR.
01:54Then we have scan, which is basically barcodes and QR codes.
01:58And then the last button is a microphone button where you can just kind of ask questions.
02:03So we will go through all four of them.
02:05First, we're going to start with the camera tab.
02:08So it really kind of is similar to some of the other AI apps where you can take a picture of maybe your surroundings and then it will give you a description and you have to ask a question about it.
02:20One of the things it says that it kind of its strengths is both describing people and then also artwork.
02:28So we're going to do both of those today.
02:30We're going to start out with taking a picture of Luke.
02:32Yep.
02:33We're going to choose the camera option.
02:35Camera shortcut button selected.
02:37And when we choose that shortcut across the bottom, then kind of dead center is whatever button to kind of activate that mode.
02:45So in camera, we should find a take picture button.
02:48Start taking a picture.
02:49There we go.
02:50So I'm going to take a picture of Luke and let's see what we get here.
02:543, 2, 1.
02:57Photo captured.
02:58Start asking your question.
03:00So we heard a little countdown, 3, 2, 1.
03:04So we knew it was about to take the picture.
03:06And now what it's done is it's automatically switched to the fourth tab, the microphone tab, and it's ready for us to ask a question.
03:14So it does not just jump right into a description.
03:17Instead, it waits for you to give a question.
03:20That's actually a pretty good feature because oftentimes you don't really need the full description.
03:24You just have a specific question about the picture.
03:26Yeah, I agree.
03:27I think depending on what you're doing, you know, I can see it going both ways, but there is something nice about you dictating what info you want versus it starting to go on a long tangent.
03:38Exactly.
03:39So we're going to say, let's ask what this person looks like.
03:42Start asking your question.
03:43Finish your question.
03:44What does this person look like?
03:46Finish your question.
03:48The man is wearing glasses and a gray sweater with a small microphone clipped to his collar.
03:54His expression is playful as he sticks out his tongue, suggesting a humorous moment.
03:59The setting is an office with a wooden door, a large plant, and a flat screen monitor.
04:04There you go.
04:05Well, I don't know how I appreciate you sticking your tongue out, especially a Jonathan like that, but, you know, we'll have to live with it today.
04:12But pretty good description.
04:14I think it, you know, did a great job, picked up some cool details, including the microphone on your collar, which was kind of cool.
04:21Yeah.
04:22One thing that this app doesn't have at this point is an ability to stop it from talking.
04:27So I can't interrupt it without either asking another question or maybe choosing one of the different tabs down at the bottom.
04:34So if the developers are watching this video, it'd be nice if there was a way either by gesture or a button to stop it speaking.
04:42And that'll be even more relevant when we take picture of something that has a longer description.
04:47Which we're going to do right now.
04:49We are. Let's take a picture of a piece of artwork.
04:52OK, and here we go, because we are uncouth, we do not have any actual art.
04:57Instead, we just have a representation on my laptop screen.
05:00Now, remember, the app did switch over to the microphone tab.
05:04So I am going to have to go back to the camera tab here.
05:07Camera shortcut.
05:08Selected. Camera shortcut.
05:09We will go for the button in the middle.
05:11Start taking a picture. Button.
05:13Three.
05:14Cancel.
05:15Automatically taking a picture.
05:16One.
05:17Photo captured.
05:18Start asking your question. Button.
05:20Start with this image.
05:21All right.
05:22We're back to the microphone.
05:23We're on the button that says, how can I help you?
05:25We can ask a question.
05:26So let's go ahead.
05:27Start asking your question.
05:29Describe this picture to me.
05:31Finish your question.
05:33The image shows a laptop screen displaying a surreal painting by Salvador Dali.
05:39This artwork features a distorted face with melting clocks reflecting Dali's unique style.
05:45The scene is vibrant and chaotic with abstract forms and elongated limbs in bold colors like
05:50red, orange, and yellow against a blue background.
05:54The overall atmosphere is dreamlike and unsettling.
05:57Blending reality and fantasy.
05:59The laptop is a Dell model set in a brightly lit room with reflections visible on the screen.
06:04There we go.
06:05All right.
06:06That did a very good job.
06:07I'm not familiar with this picture, although maybe I lost my vision 35 years ago.
06:13Maybe I saw it as a kid, but it's not ringing any bells to me.
06:17Yeah.
06:18I chose this one deliberately just because it's a very complex picture.
06:21Okay.
06:22And I think it did a pretty decent job.
06:23It didn't give us all of the details, but it gave us the general ambience.
06:27If you were, and so to me, an example of this is let's say you're at a museum, an art museum,
06:32you know, do you feel like it gave a pretty good representation of what that piece of art
06:37looks like?
06:38I mean, I think it gave you the vibe.
06:39There's a lot of other things in there visually.
06:42Sure.
06:43But it definitely gave you the vibe.
06:44And I think it would give you a feel for the type of picture that this is.
06:50Perfect.
06:51All right.
06:52Let's move on to the next tab.
06:54OCR.
06:55All right.
06:58We are moving on to our next tab and that is labeled OCR.
07:03What do you think OCR stands for, Luke?
07:05Well, traditionally it would stand for optical character recognition, Corey.
07:08Okay.
07:09But you said traditionally.
07:10So what do you, does it mean something different here?
07:12Well, I happen to, I happen to know how this works.
07:15I see where you're going.
07:16A little foreshadowing.
07:18All right.
07:19So OCR, in my opinion, I would assume that this is going to, I'd be able to take a picture
07:24of a document and have it read back to me.
07:27That's kind of your traditional OCR as you're saying, right?
07:29In 2025, Corey, OCR does not work like that.
07:32Yeah, that is true.
07:33Or at least AI based.
07:34So let's find out though how MV handles.
07:37I've got a piece of paper here with some text.
07:39Let's see how it handles a kind of standard document.
07:42So we're going to choose the OCR option.
07:44OCR shortcut.
07:45Button.
07:46Selected.
07:47OCR shortcut.
07:48And just like the other tab, but I now have a button in the middle that's going to take
07:51the picture.
07:52One thing to note here that MV does not give you any kind of, um, line, you know, lining
07:58up or alignment cues at all.
08:00So you just kind of have to do it on your own.
08:02Start scanning the document.
08:03Button.
08:04Three.
08:05Cancel automatically taking a picture.
08:06One.
08:07Okay.
08:08We got a picture.
08:09Sorry.
08:10The text provided seems to be heavily distorted.
08:12It doesn't form coherent sentences or phrases.
08:15Could you please provide more context or clearer text for me to assist you better?
08:19Now I will say, Corey, this has been a repeated issue.
08:23And, uh, and I have, uh, I've done this myself and I can visually see where the picture
08:30is in focus, that it's lined up correctly when I'm doing it and it still comes back and
08:33tells me there's severe distortion.
08:35So we're going to go back.
08:36Uh, back to the OCR mode because again, it switched us.
08:41It switched us over to the microphone mode and let's try one more.
08:45I'll get a little better.
08:46See if I can get a better picture.
08:47Three.
08:48Cancel automatically taking a picture.
08:49One.
08:50Try again.
08:51Start asking your question.
08:52The text appears to contain significant recognition errors and is difficult to interpret.
08:58If you could provide any additional context or a clearer version.
09:01Let's try it one more time.
09:02This is an attempt to correction.
09:04Oh.
09:05The Merions were able to enhance their power and influence through various strategic decisions
09:11and alliances.
09:12Please check for accuracy against your original.
09:15So let's stop this here.
09:17So for those that aren't able to see the screen, uh, that may have saw it while I was taking the picture.
09:23This is the lyrics to the Star Spangled Banner.
09:26So I have no idea what it was saying.
09:28I will say, Corey, um, observing you taking a picture of the document, like it looks completely correct what you're doing, sir.
09:35Well, what's very weird is I tested this before the video and it worked to a certain extent.
09:40Now I can't get anything.
09:41Let's try one more time.
09:42This time I'm going to hold the document and just see if that makes any kind of difference.
09:46Start scanning the document.
09:47Button.
09:48I don't know why it would.
09:49Three.
09:50Cancel automatically taking a picture.
09:51One.
09:52Let's try that.
09:53Start asking your question.
09:54Button.
09:55No, it's taking longer.
09:59Not that's good or bad.
10:00Empty.
10:01The app just crashed.
10:03Oh!
10:04It really does not like this piece of paper.
10:06All right.
10:07Let's go back in and try.
10:08Power.
10:09Empty.
10:10All right.
10:11So let's try one more time.
10:12This time we're going to bring the camera closer.
10:14Maybe we're too far away.
10:16Things look a little blurry.
10:17Although I've used tons of OCR apps before and I feel like the distance I was doing is pretty standard.
10:23I would agree.
10:24But let's give it another whirl.
10:25So we're going to get a little closer.
10:26Now the problem with getting closer is that you've got, you're going to have a much higher
10:31chance of cutting off edges because you're getting closer.
10:34So we're going to try our best.
10:35Start scanning the document.
10:36Button.
10:37Three.
10:38Cancel automatically taking a picture.
10:39One.
10:40Let's see if that's any better.
10:42Start asking your question.
10:43Biggest cross.
10:44Button.
10:45Here's a corrected and formatted version of the text.
10:49Restyled as the lyrics of the United States National Anthem.
10:52The Star Spangled Banner.
10:53Oh.
10:54Say can you see.
10:55Okay.
10:56So.
10:57We're going to stop that for a second.
11:01Okay.
11:02I feel like we should stand for salute.
11:04That's a good part.
11:05So it did.
11:06It worked.
11:07But what you'll notice, and this is pretty similar to any AI app.
11:12It's not reading the text verbatim.
11:14Instead, it's recognizing the text, seeing what it is.
11:18And then in, I mean, in this case, it wasn't exactly a summary because it started reading
11:22the lyrics.
11:23But there is stuff on the top that it didn't read.
11:26It said that it was the manuscript of Francis.
11:29Francis.
11:30Hmm.
11:31Scott.
11:32Francis.
11:33I'm English.
11:34Don't look at me.
11:35Dang it.
11:36Anywho.
11:37Put it in the comments.
11:38Who wrote the Star Spangled Banner?
11:40But then there is something, if I remember too, about like the museum or something of Maryland.
11:44At the top of the page, it says complete version of the Star Spangled Banner showing spelling
11:48and punctuation from...
11:50Francis Scott Key Card.
11:53Francis Scott Key's manuscript in the Maryland Historical Society collection.
11:57So it didn't read any of that, but instead just sort of recognized that this was the Star
12:02Spangled Banner and went right to reading it.
12:04Yeah.
12:05And I would say, I've tried this with a book before, and it kind of sounds as if it's reading
12:08the page from the book, but really it's just taking the words and just making its own
12:13version.
12:14Yeah, some of the times it would change words into similar words, but not words that were
12:18on there.
12:19You also can't, you know, like the camera mode, it does switch right over to the microphone
12:24where you can ask some follow-up questions.
12:26So for example, if this was taking a picture of a bill, you could ask what the total was,
12:31or if it was a menu, you could ask what specific entrees or desserts, but you can't
12:37say read verbatim or read this document.
12:40So this version of MV AI does not allow you to read the document top to bottom.
12:47So if that's a feature you're looking for, you're not going to get it here, but you will
12:51get a summary of the document instead.
12:54Call me.
12:55Yes.
12:56I'm hungry.
12:57Okay.
12:58Let's move on to the next section and we'll scan some barcodes and see if we can find a
13:03little snack for Luke.
13:04Yummy.
13:05All right.
13:06Time to move on to our third tab across the bottom.
13:11It sounds like you're already eating.
13:13Do you know what that was or did you need our barcode scanning here to figure it out?
13:16I know it's tasty, but I've never had such a scrumptious snack before.
13:20So you're going to have to tell me what it is.
13:22All right.
13:23We're going to move on to the barcode scanning.
13:25This is the third tab across the bottom.
13:28This has basically allows you to do barcodes and QR codes.
13:32We're going to show barcodes here today.
13:34I've got the tab chosen already.
13:35So we've got two products here.
13:37We're going to give it a whirl.
13:38So we're going to choose the button in the middle here.
13:42Start scanning the code button.
13:43And as soon as I double tap, it's going to automatically start looking for the barcode.
13:48When we hear the little music that we've heard before today, then we know that it got the barcode.
13:52Start scanning the code button.
13:55Oh, there you go.
13:56Pretty much instant.
13:57Yeah.
14:00Nutella biscuits offer a delightful combination of crunchy biscuits filled with the classic taste of Nutella hazelnut spread.
14:07Okay.
14:08This biscuit features a center of creamy Nutella.
14:10All right.
14:11We're going to stop that for a moment.
14:12I have to say I've never heard of Nutella before.
14:14Yeah.
14:15So this is a put this down in the comments.
14:17Do you say Nutella or Nutella?
14:19Because it really is spelled Nutella.
14:21Right.
14:22And it is hazelnut.
14:23But everybody in the United States, at least.
14:26Well, I shouldn't say everybody.
14:28But it appears that Nutella is the way it's kind of pronounced.
14:31Well, maybe that's just the way that you and Jonathan say it.
14:33Who knows?
14:34Maybe everybody else in the world says Nutella.
14:35Didn't the app just say Nutella as well?
14:39AI is the smartest thing ever.
14:41So it knows.
14:42Okay.
14:43So a couple of things you've noticed that I find different from other barcode scanning.
14:48It didn't just read the product name.
14:50That's what I'm used to when we do a barcode.
14:53It just says, you know, Nutella biscuits, 24 ounces or something like that.
14:57A quantity or weights or something.
14:59Yeah.
15:00But instead, this seems to be reading the description of the product right off the bat.
15:06Now, in this case, that was fine because it said Nutella biscuits.
15:11So it worked out.
15:13But again, this is a good example of wanting that stop button because I really just wanted to know the product.
15:20I didn't need to really know the whole marketing paragraph about its rich delectable taste.
15:27Although it does have a rich delectable taste.
15:29It does.
15:30I just wanted to know the name.
15:31So a stop feature would be quite nice.
15:34And it seems like it's pulling this information from a, you know, a shopping website of some sort.
15:40It does appear to be more of like a retail type description.
15:43All right.
15:44Let's try another product here.
15:46So we have touched the bar scan mode.
15:49We'll go in the center here.
15:50Start scanning the code.
15:51There we go.
15:52Hopefully we hear music.
15:53Button.
15:54There it is.
15:56Got it.
15:57Start asking your question.
15:58Button.
15:59Oat Milk Plain Extra Creamy is a rich and smooth plant-based beverage ideal for those seeking a dairy alternative.
16:05Crafted from a blend of water and whole grain oats.
16:08This drink is enriched with key nutrients.
16:10I'm going to stop it here.
16:11And here's an example of what we just talked about a moment ago.
16:14So with the new, with the Nutella biscuits, it said Nutella biscuits are a buh, buh, buh, buh, buh, buh.
16:20This time it says oat milk.
16:22And so we know it's oat milk.
16:23Yeah.
16:24But it did not say anything about the brand.
16:27Now I'm curious.
16:28We do have the ask question button here.
16:31So maybe it'll tell us the brand if we ask.
16:34You're scanning a code.
16:35No, we don't have an ask question.
16:37Shocking horror.
16:38I lied to you.
16:39So unlike the other options that, that are automatically take you into the microphone, the barcode scan doesn't.
16:45You can't go into the microphone mode and ask it.
16:48Well, no, but I think what we'd have to do is switch to the camera mode, take a picture and then see if it would tell us the text that way.
16:56But from the barcode, it's not, which I find very interesting.
16:59Again, it appears to be reading the description rather than just giving you the product name.
17:04Now, again, some people might like the description, but really for me, when I'm scanning something, I just want to know what it is.
17:11I don't really care about the whole description.
17:13So in my opinion, although it's working, I just find it not to be exactly the way I would like it.
17:19I agree.
17:20And what I think is most important, put it down in the comments if you agree.
17:25All right.
17:28The last option is the microphone tab.
17:31Now we've actually been in this option multiple times.
17:34Anytime you take a picture with the camera mode or with the OCR mode, it actually takes you right into this microphone mode.
17:41And that's what we use to ask a question.
17:43But you could use it to ask general questions as well.
17:46Now we are going to test its knowledge here.
17:49We're going to ask it who the current president of the United States of America is.
17:53Because we did the Star Spangled Banner, we are very patriotic today.
17:57So let's see what it does.
17:58So we've got the ask question button right in the center.
18:01Start asking your question button.
18:03Start asking your question.
18:04Who is the current president of the United States of America?
18:08Finish your question.
18:10The current president of the United States is Joe Biden.
18:13Wrong.
18:14Hmm.
18:15Now, unless I am napping for the last hundred and some days, I do not believe that Joe Biden is the current president.
18:24Maybe, maybe in our hearts and in our minds.
18:26Maybe.
18:27Now, last time, last time we did this, it said, according to my last update.
18:33Yes.
18:34This time.
18:35So it does appear that the, it almost appears that the data it's getting, it can't be low.
18:42I mean, it can't.
18:43Well, the thing is with the, with the large learning, the LLMs.
18:47The thing is with those is that they have a snapshot of all the contents of the internet at a particular point in time.
18:55Yeah, I suppose.
18:56So this, so remember, this is a new app.
18:58They are still adding updates.
19:00So hopefully in their next update, they'll put the actual president.
19:04Unless it knows something and maybe Joe Biden's going to be president soon.
19:08I have no idea.
19:09But any who.
19:10Make a triumphant comeback.
19:11Yes.
19:12I'm back.
19:13Come on, man.
19:14So any who, just that is the microphone feature.
19:17You can ask some general questions, but take their answers with a grain of salt.
19:21Salty.
19:24Okay.
19:25So that was the MV app.
19:26Corey, are we still envious after seeing the MV?
19:29Yeah.
19:30I mean, I think that it's very similar to a lot of the other AI apps, although it does have some quirks about it.
19:37Yeah.
19:38Again, as we said at the top of the video, though, I think its biggest distinguishing factor is that it's, it's easy layout.
19:44Yeah.
19:45Compared to some of the other apps, it makes taking a picture very easy.
19:50It makes asking follow up questions pretty easy.
19:53So I liked all of that stuff.
19:55But I think they do need to work on some of their accuracy, both on the OCR and not so much the barcode scan.
20:04The barcode scan is great.
20:05It's super fast.
20:06But I wish it would be a little bit more specific on the product that it's scamming.
20:10Yeah.
20:11It really needs to give you the product name upfront and then it can give you other details after that.
20:14A little nervous about the asking it general questions.
20:18Yeah.
20:19Although that I don't know that I'd really reach for MV for that anyways, but you would still want some.
20:23But also that's not an MV problem specifically.
20:26It's more an LLM problem in general.
20:29Well, but if you're going to, if the app's going to, if the developers are going to choose to have an AI based thing, you got to make sure your data is up to date then.
20:37Yeah.
20:38You know, it probably costs so much to do an imprint to the, you know, it's not really practical to be doing it every day or anything like that.
20:44Sure.
20:45That makes sense.
20:46Yeah.
20:47Sorry.
20:48Sorry, Corey.
20:49I'm talking.
20:50Yeah, go ahead.
20:51Please.
20:52You had a stop button.
20:53Just like MV.
20:55Yeah.
20:56There are some additional features in the MV app, which we haven't looked at.
21:00And those would allow us to do things such as, Corey, changing the speed of the voice.
21:04Yeah.
21:05We could turn on a dark mode if we preferred, if we were using the app visually and we preferred a dark background.
21:09And there's also a voiceover mode, a toggle button, Corey, which seems to do what?
21:15Well, to me, what it appears to do is enhance the self-voicing of the app itself.
21:24Yes.
21:25So when you're switching between the different options, the different tabs, it actually speaks them out loud.
21:31If it's engaged or not.
21:32If it's turned off.
21:33Correct.
21:34It's turned off.
21:35I had it going.
21:36I had it on during this demonstration.
21:38So you may have actually heard MV's voice and voiceover voice competing sometimes.
21:45And that was because, well, because I had the button turned on.
21:49Yeah.
21:50Yeah.
21:51I had to play around with it.
21:52To be honest, though, besides a little more talking from the MV voice, I didn't see any
21:58other difference.
21:59There's no extra gestures that are turned on.
22:01Not that I could find, at least.
22:02No, it doesn't seem to do a huge lot.
22:04But if you want to play around with it, you can.
22:06And that's, Corey, in a nutshell, is the MV app.
22:09Current pricing at the release of this video.
22:12What?
22:13In a Nutella show?
22:14In a Nutella show.
22:15Go ahead.
22:16At the time of release, the price on the app is $4.99 if you want to pay monthly.
22:21If you want to pay for a year, it's $59.99.
22:24And if you want a lifetime subscription, then that would be $200.
22:29And there are free options.
22:31So I think you would want to carefully consider whether the price of this app gives you the
22:35value for money.
22:36And the main value, I think, would come in its simplicity.
22:38Yeah.
22:39And it does offer a 14-day free trial.
22:41So you can download the app and at least give it a shot for yourself and make that decision.
22:45But you're right.
22:46There are free options out there.
22:49But I always think it's fun to add tools to your toolbox and see which one.
22:55You know, don't blame the...
22:56Wait, what did you just say a little bit?
22:58I said, don't blame the tool.
23:01I can't remember what I said.
23:02Okay.
23:03Anyways.
23:04Never mind.
23:05We'll edit that out so you can ignore that piece.
23:07We've got a lot going on.
23:08Yes.
23:09A good workman never blames his tools.
23:12That is very true.

25:26Wellens?
25:27Yeah, I think so.
25:28That's right.
25:29From Hable, talking about the Hable Easy.
25:31So, if you see this, go back and check that out if you hadn't.
25:35Because it will be really exciting.
