00:00Got an 0173 power stroke, durable motor, man.
00:05And why are they so durable?
00:06They're not ingesting their exhaust gases.
00:09They don't have an EGR on them,
00:10so they're not continually ingesting their exhaust gases.
00:13And I'm going to show you.
00:14This one, though, suffered a catastrophic meltdown.
00:17Half the piston, you can see where it's just kind of melting itself away here.
00:21But the ring land didn't get torched up.
00:23And surprise, it came out of this hole here.
00:26We've gotten really no cylinder wall damage.
00:28You know, you can still see some crosshatch in there.
00:31It's not too bad.
00:33We'll definitely, on the rebuild, we'll be going with the larger piston.
00:37Whenever you find a melted piston on a diesel on a teardown,
00:41you make dang sure you send them injectors out and have them tested
00:44or replace them with remands or noose.
00:48Don't overlook that or, you know, you'll just have the same problem.
