00:00So we hear a lot about how people rush out of relationships nowadays.
00:03There's no patience, so many options.
00:05People just, you know, first sign of trouble, people get out.
00:09But that's to underestimate that there's actually an opposed, diametrically opposed other problem,
00:13which is the number of people who stay in far, far too long and realize, you know,
00:19when times kind of run out for them, that their real problem, their besetting problem was forbearance,
00:25was too great a tolerance.
00:26So here's a very simple principle that we've come up with about how to decide whether a relationship is viable or not.
00:32It sounds completely simple.
00:34I mean, it's huge to take on board, but there's a kind of elemental simplicity.
00:37And the question is this.
00:39When you talk to them, when you address an important issue with your partner, do they listen?
00:45Do they listen or do they stonewall or do they say you're being too critical or you're being too demanding or I'm too busy?
00:50Or why do you always get me down?
00:51Of course, we have to speak and we have to speak with dignity and we have to speak with clarity and we can't be impatient and ill-tempered and make them feel belittled.
01:00But if we do that and there are repeated signs that there is no progress, we don't deserve to be that.
01:07We'd be wasting our time.
01:08It's bad enough to be an unfunctioning, non-functioning relationship.
01:11It's even worse to be denying that it might be non-functioning for such a long time that we deny ourselves the chance of forming a relationship with the grown up that we actually deserve.
01:21It's bad enough to be an unfunctioning for such a long time that we don't deserve to be an unfunctioning for such a long time that we don't deserve to be an unfunctioning for such a long time that we don't deserve to be an unfunctioning for such a long time that we don't deserve to be an unfunctioning for such a long time that we don't deserve to be an unfunctioning for such a long time that we don't deserve to be an unfunctioning for such a long time that we don't deserve to be an unfunctioning for such a long time that we don't deserve to be an unfunctioning for such a long time that we don't deserve to be an unfunctioning for such a long time that we don't deserve to be an unfunctioning for such a long time that we don't deserve to be an unfunctioning for such a long time that we don't deserve to be an unfunctioning for such a long time that we don't deserve to be an unfunctioning for such a
