Randy Guijarro never thought that the photo he bought for a cheap price could be worth millions of dollars when investigated further.

One person's trash can be another person's treasure, perhaps this expression can explain this one incident. Randy Guijarro never thought that a photo he bought for 2 dollars or equivalent to Rp. 27 thousand turned out to be a rare item with a selling price of millions of dollars.

Randy believes that the owner of the photo no longer wants it so he sells it at a memorabilia shop in Fresno County, California. The man was initially interested in seeing old photos at the shop, then decided to take home three photos by paying Rp. 27 thousand.

Initially Randy did not see anything strange in the picture. After he examined the photo more closely using a magnifying glass, Randy was sure that one of the photos showed Billy the Kid, along with four of his members.

The discovery really made Randy disbelieve. If his assumption was correct, he could make a lot of money from the photo. Therefore, Randy invited his wife, Linda, to prove the truth of the photo.

"When I saw a guy wearing a hat, I was like, 'Wow, he looks like, who does he look like? Because I know Billy the Kid, I immediately knew it was him and what he looked like,'" Randy said, recounting his surprise when he saw the photo, citing a National Geographic interview.

Do Research for 5 Years

Billy the Kid was a well-known criminal. However, his real name was Henry McCarty. In the photo, he and his gang, The Regulator, are seen playing croquet at a Lincoln County, New Mexico, wedding in 1878.

The photo was authenticated by the San Francisco company, Kagin. At first, the party was skeptical about the photo.

"When we first saw the photo, we were skeptical because the photo of Billy the Kid was considered a Holy Grail for the American West," said David McCarthy, a numismatist, someone who studies and collects antiques.

Of course, to get the authentication, Rendy and Linda went through many processes for five years. Both of them did research, read, and traveled to many places.

Until finally they found the right research team to solve their problems to collect data and the truth of the photo.

After getting authentication, the husband and wife put their photos through an auction house about photos of Billy the Kid, and insured the photos up to $ 5 million or equivalent to Rp. 68 billion.

From this, Randy hopes that his experience can inspire many people and other treasure hunters to check the items around them.
