It's been a wet start to May for the northeastern U.S, where frequent rain has put a damper on spring activities-from graduations to sports practices-as of May 6.
Transcript
00:00It hasn't rained necessarily all the time, but there's been rain most of the time the last several days, last three, four days.
00:05And in some places it's rained, like, for instance, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,
00:09rained every day in the last week here, the totals for the last 72 hours over the last three days,
00:14with many places picking up two, three, some places here closing in on six inches of rain in parts of New England.
00:19There have been dry moments in the mornings especially, but overall a pretty gloomy weather pattern
00:24with rain for several days in a row as we've had through the last couple days.
00:29The impacts here range from the business side of things, logistics, shipping delays, a lot of flight cancellations and delays as well
00:37due to some air traffic control issues in Newark in addition to the weather.
00:41We've obviously had from a sporting practice perspective different practices canceled.
00:47It's now the time of year for college graduations, so those have also started to be impacted.
00:51And there can be some impacts to retail shopping, all a good reminder to download the AccuWeather app
00:55and also use the Minicast feature to get that minute-by-minute forecast to understand when the rain is coming.
01:00I've been thinking about those college graduations.
01:02Some people have to get extra hotel rooms just to accommodate the delays and some of that kind of stuff.
01:06So it can have a huge impact, and we're stuck in it for a little while, right?
01:11Yeah, we are stuck in it here.
01:12As you mentioned, there's some drying out in the Ohio Valley tomorrow,
01:14but a lot of the northeast still stays wet with some shower chances, especially New England, into Wednesday.
01:19Thursday, probably again, there's some showers around,
01:22and then Friday may be wet one more time before we finally start to see a drier pattern come late in the weekend.
01:29That storm departs.
01:30Could be a pretty wet Saturday morning, but drier air returns come Sunday.
01:34A lot of people very excited to hear that for their weekend, especially Sunday there.
01:39Senior Director of Forecasting Operations, Dan DePodwin, thanks again for joining us.
