00:00Thank you very much everybody it's a great honor to have Prime Minister Mark Carney with us as you know just a few days ago he won a very big election in Canada and I think I was probably the greatest thing that happened to him but I can't take a vote but they were his party was losing by a lot and he ended up winning so I really want to congratulate him was one of the probably one of the greatest comebacks in the history of politics maybe even greater than mine.
00:30But I want to just congratulate you that was a great election actually we were watching it with interest and I think Canada chose a very talented person a very good person because we spoke before the election quite a few times and it's an honor to have you at the White House and the Oval Office and you see the new and improved Oval Office as it becomes more and more beautiful with love you know we handle it with great love and 24 karat gold that always helps too right but it's
00:59it's been a lot of fun going over some of the beautiful pictures that were stored in the vaults that were for many many years in some cases over a hundred years they were stored in vaults of the great presidents who are almost great presidents all having a reason for being up every one of them so it's very interesting but I just want to congratulate you and
01:22and ran a really great race I watched the debate I thought you were excellent and I think we have a lot of things in common we have some tough tough points to go over and that'll be fine we're going to also be discussing Ukraine Russia the war because Mark wants it ended as quickly as I do I think it has to end
01:40and we had some very good news last night the Houthis have announced that they are not or they've announced to us at least that they don't want to fight anymore they just don't want to fight and we will honor that and we will we will stop the bombings and they have capitulated but more importantly they we will take their word they say they
02:07they will not be blowing up ships anymore and that's what the purpose of what we were doing so that's just news we just found out about that so I think that's very very positive they were they were knocking out a lot of ships going as you know sailing beautifully down the various seas it wasn't just a canal it was a lot of other places and I will accept their word and we are going to stop the bombing of the Houthis
02:36effective immediately and Marco you'll let everybody know that okay do you have something to say about that by the way it's a pretty big announcement yeah this was always a freedom of navigation mission these guys these are you know a band of individuals with advanced weaponry that were threatening global shipping and the job was to get that to stop and if it's going to stop then we can stop and so I think it's an important development
03:01and we'll have maybe before we're going to as you know the Middle East Saudi Arabia we're going to UAE and Qatar and that'll be I guess Monday night some of you are coming with us I think before then we're going to have a very very big announcement to make
03:18like as big as big as it gets and I won't tell you on what but it's going to and it's very positive I'd also I tell you if it was negative or positive I can't keep that out it is really really positive and that announcement will be made either Thursday or Friday or Monday before we leave but it'll be one of the most important announcements that have been made
03:40in many years about a certain subject very important subject so you'll all be here
03:46Mark would you like to say a few words thank you Mr. President I'm on the edge of my seat
03:52but thank you for your hospitality and above all for your leadership you're a transformational president
04:01focus on the economy with a relentless focus on the American worker securing your borders
04:07providing providing ending the scourge of fentanyl
04:10and other opioids and
04:12and securing the world
04:14and I've been elected
04:16with with my colleagues here
04:18with the help of my colleagues here I'm going to spread
04:20spread the
04:21the credit
04:22to transform Canada
04:25with a similar focus on the economy securing our borders
04:28again on fentanyl
04:30much greater focus on defense and security
04:33securing the Arctic and developing the Arctic
04:35and you know the history of Canada and the U.S. is we're stronger when we work together and there's many opportunities to work together and I look forward to
04:43you know addressing some of those issues that we have but also finding those areas of mutual cooperation so we can go forward
04:50that's great very nice thank you very much thank you very much
04:52sorry nice statement
04:53anybody
04:54no it was actually very effective and it's still very effective but
05:05people have to follow it so you know that's been a problem
05:09people haven't followed it but it's a it was a transitional step a little bit
05:16and as you know it it terminates fairly shortly
05:20it gets renegotiated very shortly
05:23but I thought it was a very positive step from NAFTA
05:27NAFTA was the worst trade deal in the history of our country
05:29probably in the history of the world
05:31and this was a transitional deal and we'll see what happens you know we'll we're going to be start starting to possibly renegotiate that if it's even necessary I don't know that it's necessary anymore but it served a very good purpose and the biggest purpose it served is we got rid of NAFTA NAFTA was a very unfair deal for the United States very very terrible deal it should have never been made it was made many years ago but it should have never been made
05:58I would I would love that look I have a lot of respect for this man
06:08and I watched him come up in a sense through the ranks
06:12when he wasn't given much of a chance and he did he ran a really great campaign
06:17he did a really great debate I think that debate was very helpful
06:19I was going to raise my hand
06:22I don't know if that's good or bad I shouldn't say that
06:26but that might hurt you but no he ran a really great election I thought and yeah something could happen something could happen
06:32yeah please
06:35what's the top concession you want out of Canada
06:37the top concession you want out of Canada
06:39concession
06:40yes
06:40friendship
06:41but that's not a concession
06:43no just I just we're going to be friends with Canada
06:46regardless of anything we're going to be friends with Canada
06:49Canada is a very special place to me I know so many people that live in Canada
06:54my parents had relatives that lived in Canada my mother in particular
06:59and
07:00no I love Canada
07:02a lot of I have a lot of
07:03respect for the Canadians
07:05Wayne Gretzky
07:07I mean how good the great one
07:08you happen to have a very very good hockey player right here
07:12on the Capitals who I have a lot of his
07:15he is a big tough cookie too he just broke
07:17the record
07:18and he's a great guy and
07:19you know we had the we had the team here and I got to know a lot of the players
07:24but
07:24now
07:26Canada is a very special place
07:28yeah please
07:28Mr. President
07:29and Mr. Prime Minister I'd like to get your response to this too
07:33but Mr. President you had said that Canada should become the fifth first state
07:36no
07:37no no well I still believe that but
07:40but you know takes two to tango right
07:42but no I do I mean I believe it would be a massive tax cut for the Canadian citizens
07:48you get free military you get tremendous medical cares and other things
07:54there would be a lot of advantages
07:57but it would be it would be a massive tax cut
08:00and it's also a beautiful you know as a real estate developer
08:03you know I'm a real estate developer at heart
08:05when you get rid of that artificially drawing line
08:08somebody drew that line many years ago with like a ruler just a straight line
08:12right across the top of the country
08:13when you look at that beautiful formation
08:16when it's together
08:17I'm a very artistic person
08:19but when I looked at that beauty I said that's the way it was meant to be
08:23but you know it
08:24I just I do feel it's much better for Canada
08:28but we're not going to be discussing that unless somebody wants to discuss it
08:33I think that
08:34there are tremendous benefits to the Canadian citizens tremendously lower taxes
08:39free military which honestly we give you essentially anyway
08:42because we're protecting Canada if you have had a problem
08:45but I think it you know it's
08:48it would really be a wonderful marriage
08:51because it's it's two places they get along very well
08:53they like each other a lot
08:55well if if I may
08:57as you know from real estate
09:00there are some places that are never for sale
09:03it's true we're sitting in one right now
09:05you know Buckingham Palace that you visited as well
09:07and having met with the owners of Canada over the course of the campaign
09:12last several months
09:14it's not for sale won't be for sale
09:16ever
09:17but the opportunity is in the partnership
09:21and what we can build together
09:23and we have done that in the past
09:24and part of that as the president just said
09:26is with respect to our own security
09:29and my government is committed for a step change
09:33in our investment in Canadian security and our partnership
09:36and I'll say this as well
09:38that the president has revitalized international security
09:43revitalized NATO
09:44and us playing our full weight in NATO
09:47and that will be part of it
09:47and they have
09:48they have
09:52I must say Canada is stepping up the military
09:55participation because
09:58Mark knew you know they were low
10:00and now they're stepping it up
10:02and that's a very important thing
10:03but never say never
10:04never say never
10:05what would it take to get the tariffs
10:13top of Canada
10:14well we'll be talking about different things
10:16you know we want to protect our automobile business
10:19and so does Mark
10:21but we want to protect
10:23we want to make the automobiles
10:24and we want to
10:25you know we have a tremendous abundance of energy
10:28more than any country
10:29we have just in Alaska alone
10:32Anwar has been reopened now
10:33Anwar is probably the largest find anywhere in the world
10:36they say it's larger than Saudi Arabia
10:37I don't know but it's a lot
10:38but we have tremendous amounts of energy
10:42other countries don't
10:43we're both lucky in that way
10:44they have energy
10:45we have energy
10:46we have more than we can ever use
10:47and more than we could ever sell
10:49actually
10:50and you have the same thing
10:52so we're two countries that are very lucky
10:54if you look at China
10:54they don't have that
10:55you know it's a big disadvantage
10:57other countries
10:58most countries don't have
10:59you know most countries don't have that
11:01so Canada and us
11:03we have a lot of advantages over other places
11:07when you consider what Mr Carney just said
11:14that Canada is not for sale
11:15does this make the discussion a little more difficult to start on
11:18no not at all
11:19no not at all
11:20no time
11:21time will tell
11:22it's only time
11:23but I say
11:24never say never
11:26I've had many many things that were not doable
11:29and they ended up being doable
11:30and only doable in a very friendly way
11:33but if it if it's to everybody's benefit
11:35you know Canada loves us and we love Canada
11:37that's I think the number one thing that's important
11:41but we'll see
11:42I mean over time
11:43we'll see what happens
11:44China
11:48I was hoping you could clarify something
11:49earlier this morning in Capitol Hill
11:51Secretary Besson said that there had been no negotiations yet with China
11:55you have said something differently
11:56can you clarify that?
11:58they want to meet
11:58and they're doing no business right now
12:01and those ships are turning around in the Pacific Ocean
12:04big turn
12:05those are big ships
12:06those ships take about 10 miles to turn
12:08and you know we lost a trillion
12:11dollars to China on trade
12:14because of an incompetent president that we had
12:16who preceded me
12:17grossly incompetent
12:18you're finding it out more and more now
12:20and by not trading
12:21we're losing nothing
12:23so we're saving
12:24a trillion dollars
12:25it's a lot
12:26but they want to negotiate
12:27and they want to have a meeting
12:29and we'll be meeting with them at the right time
12:31but you haven't met with them yet
12:32I have not met with them
12:34of course
12:35you would know if I've met
12:36I'd tell you
12:37they want to meet
12:38but you know
12:39we are right now
12:41look they're suffering greatly
12:43their economy is suffering greatly
12:45because they're not doing trade with the US
12:46and they made most of their money off the US
12:49don't kid yourself
12:50they don't make the money
12:51off other countries like this
12:53and they were making
12:55we had a trade imbalance
12:56we had a deficit
12:58or they had a surplus
12:59another way of saying it
13:01of more than a trillion dollars
13:03think of it
13:04more than a trillion dollars
13:05and because of 145%
13:07that's the only reason
13:08but because of
13:09they have now 145% tariff
13:11there's no trading
13:13you can't trade with 145%
13:15we are therefore
13:17making
13:18in a certain way
13:20I guess
13:211.1 trillion dollars
13:22in other words
13:24we're not losing
13:241.1 trillion dollars
13:26our deficit
13:26is much better
13:28when I
13:28started
13:30and I say
13:30we were losing
13:31billions of dollars
13:32a day on trade
13:33that's rapidly
13:35turning around
13:36we looked at numbers
13:37this morning
13:38so we were losing
13:39the United States
13:40during Biden
13:41was losing
13:41more than
13:42I won't even give you numbers
13:45because they're so embarrassing
13:46but billions of dollars
13:48a day
13:48on trade
13:49those numbers
13:50are rapidly turning
13:51between the tariffs
13:52don't forget
13:53we're now getting
13:5425% on cars
13:5625% on aluminum
13:5825% on steel
14:00and maybe more importantly
14:01massive numbers of companies
14:04are moving into
14:05the United States
14:06Honda
14:07we have
14:08tremendous
14:10the car companies
14:11are moving in
14:12at levels
14:12we've never seen before
14:14the biggest investment
14:16ever made
14:16in the United States
14:18is being made right now
14:19trillions of dollars
14:21I would say
14:22we could be at nine
14:23nine trillion dollars
14:24you could go back
14:26to other presidents
14:27they haven't had
14:27one trillion dollars
14:29for their entire term
14:31look at Biden
14:32he had
14:33bad numbers
14:34people are leaving
14:34they weren't coming in
14:35they were leaving with Biden
14:37and he didn't know
14:38the difference
14:38the only thing he knew
14:39is people coming in
14:40you know who they were
14:41illegal immigrants
14:43okay
14:44from prisons
14:44from mental institutions
14:46from
14:47all sorts of places
14:50that weren't good
14:50from gangs
14:51from Venezuela
14:52they were coming in
14:54and they were criminals
14:55and murderers
14:5611,888 people
14:58that murdered
14:59and at least half of them
15:00murdered
15:01more than one person
15:02this is what Biden
15:03led into our country
15:04I'm bringing in
15:05big companies
15:06we have
15:07Apple is
15:08investing
15:08500 billion dollars
15:10we have
15:11Jensen
15:12as you know
15:12is going to be
15:13500
15:14biggest chip maker
15:15or chip thinker
15:16I call him
15:17he's really a thinker
15:18more than a maker
15:19but we also have
15:20the maker
15:21Mr. Way
15:22I get to know them all
15:23in the last
15:24it was a cram course
15:25but they're all moving
15:28into America
15:28because of the tariffs
15:29and the
15:31I don't think people
15:33have appreciated it
15:34some people do
15:34some of the smart people do
15:35so we have more money
15:37coming in
15:38it's really an amazing thing
15:39we have
15:40more money being invested
15:42in the United States
15:43now than at any time
15:44ever before
15:45in our history
15:45and it's not even close
15:46and I think the real number
15:48could be 9 or 10 trillion
15:49we don't know everybody
15:50that's doing it
15:51we have many
15:51I just heard about a plant
15:53that's being built right now
15:54a very very top of the line company
15:57and they didn't come
15:58to the White House
15:59they're just doing it
16:00because they're making it
16:01because if they build here
16:02there are no tariffs
16:03and this is the big market
16:05this is the market
16:06that sets us apart from it
16:07this is the market
16:08where everyone wants to be
16:10now if I didn't come here
16:11and do this
16:12all of a sudden
16:12we wouldn't be the market
16:14where everyone wants to be
16:15so we're able to do it in time
16:16but we're going to have
16:18a great announcement
16:18and I'm not necessarily
16:19saying it's on trade
16:21going to the beginning
16:23we're going to have
16:24a great announcement
16:24over the next few days
16:25an announcement that
16:26will be so incredible
16:30so positive
16:30and I'm not saying
16:31I don't want you to think
16:32it's necessarily on trade
16:33just to finish
16:35we also have
16:36a situation
16:37because everyone says
16:38when when
16:39when are you going to sign deals
16:39we don't have to sign deals
16:41we can sign 25 deals
16:43right now Howard
16:44if we wanted
16:45we don't have to sign deals
16:46they have to sign deals
16:47with us
16:48they want a piece
16:49of our market
16:49we don't want a piece
16:51of their market
16:51we don't care about their market
16:52they want a piece
16:53of our market
16:54so we can just sit down
16:56and I'll do this
16:57at some point
16:58over the next two weeks
16:59and I'll sit with Howard
17:00and Scott
17:01and with
17:02with our great vice president
17:03who has done
17:04a really good job
17:06we have some good news
17:07to report
17:07on a lot of fronts
17:08but JD will be there
17:10and Marco
17:11and we're going to sit down
17:12and we're going to
17:13put very fair numbers down
17:14and we're going to say
17:15here's what
17:16this country
17:17what we want
17:19and congratulations
17:21we have a deal
17:22and they'll either say
17:23great
17:24and they'll start shopping
17:25or they'll say
17:26not good
17:27we're not going to do it
17:28and I'll say
17:29that's okay
17:29you don't have to shop
17:30now we may think
17:31well they have a right
17:33you know
17:33that maybe we were
17:34a little bit wrong
17:35so we'll adjust it
17:36and then you people
17:38will say
17:38oh it's so chaotic
17:39no we're flexible
17:40but we'll sit down
17:42and we'll at some point
17:44in some cases
17:45we'll sign some deals
17:46it's much less important
17:47than what I'm talking about
17:48for the most part
17:49we're just going to
17:50put down a number
17:50and say this is what
17:51you're going to pay
17:52to shop
17:52and it's going to be
17:53a very fair number
17:54it'll be a low number
17:54we're not looking
17:55to hurt countries
17:56we want to help countries
17:57we want to be friendly
17:58with countries
17:59but you keep writing
18:00about deals
18:01deals
18:01when are we going to sign
18:02one
18:02it's very simple
18:03we're going to say
18:04in some cases
18:06we want you to open up
18:07your country
18:08in some cases
18:09we want you to drop
18:10your tariffs
18:11I mean India
18:12as an example
18:12is one of the highest
18:13tariffs in the world
18:14we're not going to put up
18:16with that
18:16and they've agreed
18:17already to drop it
18:18they'll drop it to nothing
18:19they've already agreed
18:21they would have never done
18:22that for anybody else
18:23but me
18:23so we're going to put
18:26down some numbers
18:27and we're going to say
18:28our country is open
18:29for business
18:30and they're going to come in
18:31and they're going to pay
18:33for the privilege
18:34of being able to
18:35shop
18:36in the United States
18:38of America
18:38it's very simple
18:39it's very simple
18:40so I wish they'd keep
18:42you know
18:42stop asking
18:44how many deals
18:44are you signing this week
18:45because one day
18:47we'll come
18:47and we'll give you
18:48a hundred deals
18:48and they don't have to sign
18:50all they have to do
18:51is say
18:52oh
18:53we'll start sending
18:54our ships right now
18:55to pick up
18:56whatever we want
18:57or to bring
18:57whatever we want
18:58it's very very simple
18:59and I think my people
19:01haven't made it clear
19:02we will sign some deals
19:04but much bigger than that
19:06is we're going to put down
19:07the price
19:07that people are going
19:08to have to pay
19:09to shop in the United States
19:10think of us
19:11as a super luxury store
19:14a store that has the goods
19:16you're going to come
19:18and you're going to pay a price
19:19and we're going to give you
19:20a very good price
19:21we're going to make
19:22very good deals
19:22and in some cases
19:23we'll adjust
19:24but that's where it is
19:26and we've been ripped off
19:28by everybody
19:30for 50 years
19:32for 50 years
19:33and we're just not going
19:35to do that anymore
19:36we can't do that
19:37and we can't let any country
19:39do that to us
19:39we're just not going
19:40to do it anymore
19:41can you tell us a bit more
19:51about the deal
19:52that you've reached
19:53with the Houthis
19:53no it's not a deal
19:54they've said
19:55please don't bomb us anymore
19:57and we're not going
19:58to attack your ships
19:59and where did you hear
20:00about that
20:01it doesn't matter
20:02where I hear
20:02the very good source
20:03I could tell you
20:04very very good source
20:05would you say Marco
20:06I would say pretty good
20:07right JD
20:08a very good source
20:09no they don't want
20:14to be
20:14they don't want
20:15to be
20:15they don't want
20:16to be bombed anymore
20:17you know
20:17I sort of thought
20:19that would happen
20:19behind you
20:22is the US prepared
20:25to walk away
20:25from that pact
20:26from what pact
20:27USMCA
20:28no not
20:29no no it's fine
20:30it's there
20:31it's good
20:31we use it
20:32for certain things
20:33it's there
20:33the USMCA
20:35is a good deal
20:35for everybody
20:36I won't say this
20:38about Mark
20:40but I didn't like
20:41his predecessor
20:41I didn't like
20:42a person that worked
20:43she was terrible
20:44actually
20:45she was a terrible person
20:46and she really
20:47hurt that deal
20:48very badly
20:49because she tried
20:50to take advantage
20:51of the deal
20:51and she didn't
20:52get away with it
20:53you know
20:54what I'm talking about
20:55but so
20:56you know
20:57I had a
20:57we had a bad
20:58we had a bad
20:59relationship
21:01having to do
21:02with the fact
21:02that we disagreed
21:03with the way
21:03they viewed the deal
21:04and we ended it
21:06you know
21:06we ended that
21:07that relationship
21:08pretty much
21:09the USMCA
21:11is great for all countries
21:12it's good for all countries
21:13we do have a negotiation
21:14coming up
21:15over the next year or so
21:17to adjust it
21:18or terminate it
21:19Mr. President
21:20I'll just say
21:22I'll say a word
21:23on USMCA
21:23if I may
21:24Mr. President
21:24it is a basis
21:26for a broader negotiation
21:27some things about it
21:29are going to have to change
21:30and part of the way
21:31you've conducted
21:32these tariffs
21:33has taken advantage
21:34of existing aspects
21:35of USMCA
21:35so it's going to have to change
21:37there's other elements
21:38that are coming
21:39and that's part of
21:40what we're going to discuss
21:41during the campaign
21:47Prime Minister Carney
21:48talked about
21:49the American betrayal
21:50how do you react
21:51if Canada decided
21:52not to shop
21:53in the American store
21:55as much
21:55as before
21:56and decided to partner
21:57with other countries
21:58well
21:59we don't do much business
22:01with Canada
22:01from our standpoint
22:02they do a lot of business
22:03with us
22:04we're at like 4%
22:06and usually those things
22:08don't last very long
22:09you know
22:09we have great things
22:10great product
22:11the kind of product
22:11we sell
22:12nobody else can sell
22:13including military
22:15look
22:16we make the best
22:16military equipment
22:17in the world
22:19and Canada
22:19buys our military equipment
22:22which we appreciate
22:22but we make the best
22:23military equipment
22:25in the world
22:25by far
22:26the missiles
22:26the submarines
22:27everything
22:29everything we have
22:30is really top notch
22:31I rebuilt our military
22:33during our last term
22:34stupidly
22:34we gave some away
22:35to Afghanistan
22:36which shouldn't have happened
22:37but that was
22:38I think it was
22:40the most embarrassing
22:41moment in the history
22:42of our country
22:43it was just
22:45very incompetent people
22:46but if you
22:47look
22:48the man that's now
22:49the head of our joint chiefs
22:50he led the attack
22:51on ISIS for me
22:53that's why he's the head
22:53of the joint chiefs
22:54and Raisin Cain
22:56he's the
22:57he was unbelievable
22:58and as you know
22:59we defeated ISIS
23:00in three weeks
23:02it was supposed
23:03to take five years
23:04we did it in three weeks
23:06and he ran the campaign
23:08I said I like him
23:09but I knew him before
23:10I went
23:11I went to Iraq
23:12and we agreed to a plan
23:14and that was the plan
23:15and as you know
23:16we did it
23:16in record time
23:17so we have
23:19you know
23:20we have the best
23:20we have the best
23:21equipment in the world
23:22we have the best
23:23a lot of things
23:24and
23:24but Canada
23:26does a lot more business
23:28with us
23:29than we do with Canada
23:30yeah
23:30Mr. President
23:31can I ask you
23:32about your investments
23:33Mr. President
23:34when do you think
23:35the investments
23:36that you've announced
23:36the trillions
23:37will finally hit
23:38the economic data
23:39this year
23:40when you're saying
23:42about the tariffs
23:42no no no
23:43about the investments
23:44that you've announced
23:44oh
23:44oh it's hitting right now
23:46look they're already
23:47starting AI plans
23:48these are not people
23:49that look for financing
23:50that's a good thing
23:50you know
23:51in real estate
23:52you get a site
23:54then you have to
23:54look for financing
23:55you have to get
23:56your zoning
23:56you know
23:56five years later
23:57you start building
23:58you get a bank
23:59then the bank's
23:59no good
24:00these people have
24:01massive amounts
24:03of cash
24:03the CHIPS Act
24:05was a ridiculous thing
24:06because that doesn't
24:07get them to build
24:07all we did is hand
24:08very wealthy
24:10companies money
24:10the CHIPS Act
24:11that was done by
24:12Biden
24:13billions
24:14we give them
24:15billions of dollars
24:16they don't even
24:17have to do anything
24:17with it
24:18and then if you
24:19weren't
24:20if you didn't have
24:22and I won't
24:23I don't want to be
24:24a wise guy
24:24but if you didn't go
24:26with the DEI
24:27if you didn't go
24:28with all of the
24:29different things
24:29woke
24:30if you weren't woke
24:31you couldn't even
24:32use the money
24:33you had to have
24:34a certain percentage
24:34of this and that
24:35and that
24:36and that
24:36it's impossible
24:37impossible to have
24:39the people
24:39the companies
24:40actually complained to me
24:41they said
24:41they gave me
24:42all this money
24:42but nobody can get
24:44these people
24:45to do anything
24:46I mean look
24:47President Obama
24:48and if he wanted help
24:50I'd give him help
24:51because I'm a really
24:51good builder
24:52and I build on time
24:53on budget
24:54he's building his
24:55library in Chicago
24:56it's a disaster
24:57and he said
24:59something to the effect
25:00I only want
25:01DEI
25:03I only want woke
25:04he wants woke people
25:05to build it
25:06well
25:06he got woke people
25:07and they have massive
25:08cost overruns
25:10the job is stopped
25:11I don't know
25:12it's a disaster
25:13and I don't like that
25:14happening
25:15because I think
25:16it's bad for the presidency
25:17that a thing like that
25:18should happen
25:19he's got a library
25:20that's a disaster
25:21and he wanted to be
25:23very politically correct
25:25and he didn't use
25:26good, hard, tough
25:27mean construction workers
25:29that I love
25:30Marco
25:30I love those
25:31construction workers
25:32but he didn't want
25:33construction workers
25:34he wanted people
25:35that never did it before
25:36he's got a disaster
25:37in his hands
25:38like millions of dollars
25:40many, many
25:41I mean
25:42really many millions
25:43of dollars over budget
25:44and I would love
25:46to help him with it
25:47or somebody else
25:48I could recommend
25:49professionals
25:49but it was not built
25:51in a professional manner
25:52by the way
25:57nor was
25:57nor was
25:58in California
26:00a little train
26:02going from San Francisco
26:03to Los Angeles
26:05that's being run
26:06by Gavin Newsom
26:07the governor of California
26:09did you ever hear
26:10of Gavin Newsom
26:11he has got
26:12that train
26:13is the worst
26:14cost overrun
26:15I've ever seen
26:15it's like
26:17totally out of control
26:18so then they said
26:19alright
26:19we won't go
26:20into San Francisco
26:21we'll stop 25 miles short
26:23and we won't go
26:24into Los Angeles
26:25we'll stop 25 miles short
26:26it's hundreds
26:29of billions
26:30of dollars
26:30for this stupid project
26:32that should have
26:33never been built
26:34and then they realized
26:35that it would have been
26:36a lot less costly
26:37if we just gave
26:38limousine service
26:39back and forth
26:40and gave it free
26:41they would have saved
26:41hundreds of billions
26:43of dollars
26:43they have airplanes
26:44that go there
26:45for one one hundredth
26:47the cost
26:47and they have cars
26:49they have a thing
26:49called the highway
26:50that goes back and forth
26:51that's not fully utilized
26:53and they got involved
26:54with this project
26:55and Gavin
26:56you know I always liked Gavin
26:57had a good relationship
26:59with him
26:59I just got him
27:00a lot of water
27:01you know
27:01I sent in people
27:03to open up that water
27:04because he refused
27:05to do it
27:06and we just got him
27:07a lot of water
27:08if they would have
27:08had that water
27:09and if they would have
27:10done what I said to do
27:11they wouldn't have
27:11had the fires
27:12in Los Angeles
27:13those fires would have
27:14been put out
27:15very quickly
27:15but if you think about it
27:17and you got to take
27:18a look at this
27:19it's the worst cost
27:20overrun I've ever seen
27:21I've watched a lot
27:22of stupid people
27:23build a lot of stupid
27:24things
27:25but that's the worst
27:26cost overrun I've ever seen
27:27what's happening
27:28between San Francisco
27:29and Los Angeles
27:30and you want to ask
27:31about that
27:32because this government
27:33is not going to pay
27:34I told our very great
27:36new secretary of transportation
27:38he's doing a good job
27:39Sean Duffy
27:39I said
27:40we're not going to pay
27:42for that thing
27:43they are just
27:43it's out of control
27:45this is something
27:46that
27:47you don't have
27:48things like this
27:49it's not even conceivable
27:51like
27:5230 times over budget
27:5430 times
27:55it's the craziest thing
27:56and now it's hundreds
27:57it was supposed to be
27:58a simple train
27:59and I think the media
28:01should take a look at it
28:02and I'd love him
28:03to run for president
28:04on the other side
28:05you know
28:06I'd love to see that
28:07but I don't think
28:08he's going to be running
28:09because that one project
28:11alone
28:11well that
28:11and the fires
28:12and a lot of other things
28:13pretty much put him
28:15out of the room
28:15Mr. President
28:20what changes would you like
28:21to see in the USMCA
28:22or what changes
28:23would you like to see
28:23we're going to work
28:24on some subtle changes
28:26maybe
28:26I don't even know
28:27if we're going to be
28:28dealing with the USMCA
28:29we're just
28:29we're dealing more
28:30with concepts right now
28:31look right now
28:32we're doing trade
28:33we have trade
28:34they're paying a tariff
28:36on cars
28:37and steel and aluminum
28:38and I think we have
28:39a baseline of 10%
28:41or something like that
28:42for the tariffs
28:43but we're getting along
28:45very well
28:45right now
28:46going no further
28:47but we have
28:48we have
28:50an agreement
28:51we did something
28:52with even parts
28:53you want to discuss that
28:54Howard
28:55with respect to Canada
28:56which helps Canada out
28:57sure
28:58so we've
28:59we've made an arrangement
29:01with the car companies
29:02that 15%
29:03of their
29:04USMCA parts
29:06are included
29:07and then 15%
29:08of foreign parts
29:10from the
29:10the manufactured
29:12suggested retail price
29:13are not tariff
29:14to help
29:15domestic manufacturing
29:16really thrive
29:18so it gave them
29:19a chance
29:19to be able
29:20to build their
29:21car parts
29:22factories
29:23if they're going to
29:24a lot of these
29:25companies already
29:27have factories
29:27and what they have
29:28to do is just
29:29fill them out
29:29but they're able
29:30to build them
29:31in the United States
29:31so we gave them
29:32a pretty substantial
29:33period of time
29:34I think
29:34is there anything
29:36the prime minister
29:37can say to you
29:38today
29:38to change your mind
29:40on tariffing Canada
29:41tariffing cars
29:43tariffing Canada
29:44is there anything
29:45he can say to you
29:46in the course
29:47of your meetings
29:47with him today
29:48that would get you
29:49to lift tariffs
29:50on Canada
29:51no
29:51why not
29:52it's the way it is
29:54it's the way it is
29:57on the 51st state
29:58if Canadians don't want it
30:00would you respect that
30:01sure I would
30:03but this is not
30:04necessarily a one day
30:05deal
30:05this is over a period
30:06of time
30:07they have to make
30:07that decision
30:08yes go ahead
30:09yeah if I may
30:10well I
30:11respectfully
30:12Canadians view on this
30:14is not going to change
30:16on the 51st state
30:17secondly
30:18we are the largest client
30:20of the United States
30:21in the totality
30:24of all the goods
30:24so we are the largest
30:25client in the United States
30:26we have a tremendous
30:28auto sector
30:29between the two of us
30:30and the changes
30:31that made have been helpful
30:32you know 50% of a car
30:34that comes from Canada
30:35is American
30:35that's not like
30:37anywhere else in the world
30:38and to your question
30:40about is there one thing
30:41no this is a bigger discussion
30:43there are much bigger
30:45forces involved
30:46and this will take
30:48some time
30:49and some discussions
30:50and that's why we're here
30:51to have those discussions
30:52and that's
30:52that is represented
30:54by who's sitting around
30:55the table
30:56see the conflict is
30:57and this is
30:58very friendly
30:59we're
31:00we're not
31:01this is not going to be like
31:02we had another little blow up
31:03with somebody else
31:04that was a much different
31:05this is
31:06this is a very friendly
31:07conversation
31:08but
31:08we want to make
31:10our own cars
31:11we don't really want
31:12cars from Canada
31:12and
31:14we put tariffs
31:16on cars from Canada
31:17and at a certain point
31:18it won't make economic sense
31:20for Canada
31:21to build those cars
31:22and we don't want
31:23steel from Canada
31:24because we're making
31:25our own steel
31:26and we're having
31:26massive steel plants
31:28being built right now
31:29as we speak
31:29we really don't want
31:31Canadian steel
31:32and we don't want
31:33Canadian aluminum
31:34and various other things
31:35because we want to be able
31:37to do it ourself
31:37and we
31:39because of
31:39you know
31:40past thinking of people
31:42we have a tremendous deficit
31:43with Canada
31:44in other words
31:45they have a surplus
31:46with us
31:47and there's no reason
31:49for us to be
31:50subsidizing Canada
31:51Canada's
31:52a place that
31:54will have to be able to
31:55take care of itself
31:57economically
31:58I assume they can
32:00I will tell you that
32:01Trudeau
32:03when I spoke to him
32:04I used to call him
32:04Governor Trudeau
32:05I think that probably
32:06didn't help his election
32:07but when I spoke to him
32:08I said
32:09so why are we
32:10why are we taking
32:11your cars
32:12why are we taking
32:12your
32:13we want to make
32:14them ourself
32:14I mean
32:14I said
32:15and if
32:17the price of your cars
32:18went up
32:19or if we put a tariff
32:20if we put a tariff
32:22on your cars
32:22of 25%
32:23what would that mean
32:25to you
32:26he said
32:27that would mean
32:27the end of Canada
32:28he actually said
32:29that to me
32:29and I said
32:30that's a strange answer
32:32but I understand
32:33his answer
32:34but
32:35no
32:37I mean
32:37it's hard
32:38to justify
32:39subsidizing Canada
32:41to the tune
32:42of maybe
32:42200 billion dollars a year
32:44we protect Canada
32:46militarily
32:47and we always will
32:48we're gonna
32:48you know
32:49that's not a money thing
32:50that's
32:50but we always will
32:51but
32:51you know
32:53it's not fair
32:53but why are we
32:55subsidizing Canada
32:56200 billion dollars a year
32:58or whatever the number
32:59might be
32:59it's a very substantial number
33:01and it's hard
33:02for the American taxpayer
33:03to say
33:04gee whiz
33:05we love doing that
33:06thank you very much
33:07we're gonna have
33:08a very successful
