00:00The main factor for the uptake or surge in overall inflation early this year and early last year was the rising cost of food items, especially rice.

00:10And the Marcus administration has worked tirelessly over the last two years to rein in inflation through strict enforcement of the rice certification law, strategic importation, price control measures, and providing incentives and much-needed inputs to farmers that, all told, have led to where we are right now, inflation at under 1.5%.

00:37From the previous P48 pesos per kilo price of rice, it has significantly dropped to P40 pesos, and for tricycle driver Armando, that's an P8 peso savings per day which amounts to P240 pesos a month.

01:07According to the Agriculture Department's price monitoring last April, regular milled rice now costs between 33 to 45 pesos per kilo, lower than the 40 to 50 peso range recorded last January.

01:20The Philippine Statistics Authority, or PSA, reports that the initiatives of President Ferdinand R. Marcus Jr.'s administration have been effective in bringing down prices, especially for rice.

01:31One key measure, the implementation of a maximum suggested retail price, or MSRP, requiring rice retailers to sell imported rice at no more than P45 pesos per kilo.

01:48Ang ating MSRP ngayon ay P45 pesos per kilogram. Madami na po tayong nakikita across provinces na may P45 pesos na bigas and even lower for some provinces na hindi po natin nakikita nung mga nakaraang buwan dahil mga nakaraang talaga pong nasa P50s pa, P50 pesos pataas po yung ating presyo ng ating bigas.

02:09So, yes po, malaki yung naitulong nung ginagawa ng gobyerno at nakaambag ito dun sa pagbaba o pagbaba ng presyo ng bigas at pagkakaroon natin ng negative inflation sa bigas mula nung January 2025.

02:24From 1.8% last March, the overall inflation rate slowed further to 1.4% in April. This marks the lowest inflation rate since November 2019. The PSA is optimistic that this trend will continue.

02:38Nakikita po natin na ang ginagawa ng gobyerno po. Sa ngayon po, meron po tayong maximum suggested retail price na P45 pesos per kilo sa ating bigas.

02:49Kung magpapatuloy po yun, given din yung mataas na presyo ng bigas nung nakaraang taon, base po sa base effect, magkakaroon pa din po tayo ng tuloy-tuloy na pagbaba ng inflation ng bigas.

03:01Recently, the Bente Bigas Merana program was also launched, offering rice at just P20 pesos per kilo.

03:08The Agriculture Department and local governments are also rolling out rice for all programs, priced between P33 to P45 pesos per kilo.

03:17These initiatives aim to bring down the cost of basic goods and further ease the financial burden of consumers.
